Didn't know about the airbrush cleaner being the same as the extra thin cement or the brush being extendable. You learn something new every day. Thanks Rex!
I think the main ingredient is acetone you can get a can of it for $20 it's also sold as nail polish remover I used to get it from a dollar if I needed to remove paint from something.
Jesus!!! Got my mind blown with the extendable brush thing!!! I was shaking my jar to use the last part!!! Top advice as ALWAYS!! Also, love that NY-Italian accent, it's like hobbying with Il Padrino!;)
I'm a pretty new watcher and I've got to say, I've learned more from watching your videos than I have from watching a bunch of the other peoples videos on the same subjects and I was really on the fence on whether to get an airbrush or not until watching your videos. I just ordered one earlier today because of you. I really appreciate it and look forward to seeing more of your videos.
New watcher here as well. I won’t buy anything without checking this channel for a video on it. I love the search function under the videos tab. Can search keywords like brand names and it usually works good.
Hi there, I don't normally comment, but I just wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying your tips and tools videos. After recently getting back into the hobby, I'm loving seeing all the tools and equipment that you use, and how to use them. It's amazing seeing you testing everything and letting us all know what works and what doesn't. I feel my skills and knowledge have grown so much by watching your videos. Keep up the great work, all the best from a big fan in England.
I have that bucasso shelf and I absolutely LOVE it! I just bought some more of the pieces to expand my storage capability. You can totally get it right now!
Just want to say thanks for putting out all these awesome videos! Recently started with this hobby and your are by far the best content creator out there. By a large margin. Thanks for all you do.
Always love these show and tell sessions. Great thing to have in the background as I'm working. This past week, I went with your recommendation for the Mr. Color Replenishing agent, and indeed it helped me to bring life back to a bottle of Tamiya Brown that had been turning into sludge, so thank you!
didn't know about the airbrush cleaner, but regarding the Extra Thin Quick Setting differences it is literally in the name. I do love these types of videos.
The airbrush cleaner tip has been around for some time, but it just became really popular the last 6 months for some reason. However, of all the years I've used the Tamiya glue, I NEVER knew that the brush extended!!! -face palm-
The 'Flex-I-File Touch-N-Flow Applicator' by Albion Alloys is an excellent tool to pair with the Tamiya Airbrush Cleaner. It's excellent in general, but in this case it saves a lot of dicking around with brushes or refilling old bottles.
Great tips as always! Funny I was having a tack cloth issue recently, so I'll be checking out that dry one from Norton. They make great sandpaper, so I'm sure their tack cloth is high quality as well.
Thank you showing the portable airbrush set up , i was looking at those before I bought the seperate compressor / air brush combo but thought they were more of a compressed bottle of air type ones now I might reconsider buying one of those
I bought a new Taiwan air compressor from Florida Scuba Diver Co. 20 + 20 shipping and a new California Air Compressor mini tank set up also 20,+20 shipping Both from eBay
Luka Cee did a review of that mig aluminum sheet, it is a little bit thicker than bare metal foil but the amount you get for your dollar cant be beat! Really good for cheap chrome trim on a car, just burnish it with a cotton swap or microfiber towel
Hobbymio markers are awesome - and the flourescent ones make good panel liners. The only issue so far is hobbymio products seem not to be restocked too often at RobotKai. I absolutely love their paint lines, though.
The aluminum sheet should be able to be burnished and sanded to get it to fit well around most shapes. It looks a lot like aluminum ducting tape which I have used on props before.
I seen a case of the Bennie Baby cases at a garage sale and scored it for less than $5.00 I use them for action figures and I print out two sides for a diorama and use poster tack on the feet of the figure, after posing it looks great. I would also recommend them!
I am very excited for your Odenkan chrome video. I just got that and a number of their metallics and have yet to try it out but I am hopeful. A vid on both would be lovely. Which chrome paints hold up best when topcoated? Most ones I've seen tend to fall apart if you try to topcoat and I was wondering if any still look good after a finish.
Thought I would add a handy tool that helps when paint bottles get stuck. Mr Hobby Cap Opener, aka GSI Creos GT56, works for perfectly on 10ml Tamiya paint jars when I do a less than stellar job cleaning or on seldom used colors. Saved my hands and more than a few "unopenable" paints.
Thanks for another good video. You might consider doing a couple "Common Knowledge" videos as there are new people coming into the modeling hobbies all the time and have not heard of many of what the "Old Timers" consider common knowledge.
As usual, your recommendation for Color Test Cards resulted in an immediate "evaporation" of all retail inventory on the internet!! Not your fault, but they ought to be paying you a healthy commission. By the way would you consider reviewing Badger's Modelflex paints? I'm a model railroader, and, while I gather a lot of good ideas and information from your presentations, many of the colors you review tend to be gaming or fantasy colors. Most of these have little place on a 1950's era train layout. Keep up the great work 👍
color test cards are already out of stock, and no where to be found else where, not in europe at least. Bought a bunch of the blank white PVC credit sized cards thats used for printing ID card. Works pretty well too.
I remember someone saying that most plastic cement is repackaged cellulose thinner. Which can be bought in bulk for not much more than one bottle of cement.
I 3d print thin flexable plates of different patterns to use as stencils for airbrushing, depending on the curvature they dont always fit right though, so maybe that precut masking tape in camo patterns would work better
@@way2sh0rt07grad I would rather get a vinyl cutter at that point so I could be one step closer to making my own custom water slide decals. Not entirely sure what the cricut can do though, maybe it could also cut decals as good as a vinyl cutter
@@jormungand72 Thats essentially what it is. You can cut vinyl, paper, plastic, fabric, etc. There's a lot of RUclipsrs who use it for custom decals and masks.
Hey Rex. Can you or any of your readers give me some tips on the simplest way to make a top to turn my 1/16th scale AMT 1957 Chevy convertable into a sedan or hard top? Right now I am trying to soften a thin piece of plastic over a metal car with a similar shape out in the hot sun (100 plus degrees) but it doesn't seem to be working. I am afraid to put this in an oven because I don't want to ruin the car I am using for a mold. Is there a modeling clay that can be shaped and hardened into the needed shape, and then after placing the piece of plastic over it, heated in an oven to sag the plastic into the shape I need? The thing is there is are compound curves around the roof so I don't want to try to piece it together like you would with metal and a welder (as I have done) on a real car. Thanks. Dean
I've been using MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) because I bought a huge jug for like $5, it works great, but the fumes are incredibly potent. Might try the airbrush cleaner since I can't bring myself to paying for the tamiya cement
Unrelated to this particular video but as it’s the newest I thought I’d ask here. You’ve done a ton of “Chrome” spray videos. Is there one brand that is considered the best of the bunch as far as a proper chrome mirror like reflection goes? Thanks! Great and informative videos 🙂
Nice! I didn't know about the tamiya thing cement and the airbrush cleaner being the same formula. Is there any danger us damaging your airbrush with the tamiya cleaner/cement?
It looks like that baby cases when you lay them on the side would fit 1-24 or 1-25 scale cars. Cheaper than buying display cases wich cost on average here in europe $25,- more or less.
Thanks for showing that hobby mío markers are streak less! :D What's the quietest air compressor you've tried? Trying to set up a workspace in my wife's office and don't want to bother her with noise.
If you have some extra money go for Sil-Air it is the same type of compressor as in refrigerators, so they make very little noise, and by the way, they are very durable.
@@NicholasBeadle Just wanted to add that depending on where you are in the world you might also see them under the name Jun-Air (which I believe is the original, but please correct me if I'm wrong). Tamiya Airbrush Cleaner is NOT the same as Quick Type glue. It is same as the regular, dark-green Tamiya extra thin. Quick Type has additional 20% of butanone in it, which appreantely makes it evaporate a lot faster than regular extra thin cement.
