Hey guys, I re-worded some parts to make things clearer in my written review here :) www.reddit.com/r/headphones/comments/1104xar/moondrop_variations_blessing_2_dusk_review/
It's 2:53 AM down here, definitely should get some sleep and here I'm watching your video 😅
It'll be a quickie ;)
@@jayyaudio gotta admit, just like usual 🤣
got new variations for the prize of new dusks and Im very happy with my purchase. Great video mate!
Thanks mate!
I ordered the Variations and I love to listen loud :-) I hope there good, if not Ill get the 07m
Fantastic video, jay 🤝 always deliver, never disappoint with your unique style. Fun fact: I’ve never owned or even heard a set from Moondrop. So strange to say - but I’ve always been turned off by how hyped and popular they are … call me a hipster 😅
Thanks brother 🤝. And you're right being skeptical of the hype - I'd say the hype is justified for most libraries, but not so much for rock/metal etc.
Nice video man
Thank you man
I already knew I subscribed to the right channel but when I saw LOONA being in one of your videos it sealed the deal for me
Cheers to more reviews and I hope your channel grows!
Hahaha thanks man!
Most underrated channel 😳
Thank you 😳
Hi there! Thank you for doing the Lord's work! Could you make a video on bass cannons that are mid budget? I recently watched your video on the Rosefinch and got those. I also have Ikko OH10 on the way. I like your approach for bassheads and I'd appreciate this.
Great suggestion. I'll see if I can get my hands on any!
lol true, i rec the b2 to my non-audio-addicted bro and now he praise me like im his audio god. Tbh its good for people with no particular preferences and people heavily listen to male vocal, male vocal on b2 sound like geh ( better on variation) but its still the same. However, those iems still are the best in the price range

great review Jay....please tell, what variations lake when compared against U12t? will it be a huge upgrade going from variations to u12t? regards
To me Variations is better than U12T. Better balance, bass (subwoofer), more open vocals, cleaner midrange, and smoother treble. U12T is more unique sounding with the stage feeling more opened and more treble detail with sharper notes.
@@jayyaudio Agree 100% Ive sold the u12t as my love towards them transformed into a real hate because of their rough and uneven trebles.
Now i have the Variations which won against the Senns ie900 and the Xelento 2 after 2 weeks of comparisons. The Variations are unbelievably good, a real end game for someone who loves his music presented in a clean, realistic way.
I'm getting another variation. The dusk used to be something I wanted to try. Got it but didn't like it mostly because of extension. Sold it and got a 3 month used variation for $20 more. Haven't arrived yet. After trying quarks dsp I thought not all gear has to be the same.
Edit - Have you heard Final A5000?
Great decision on skipping the Dusk, and nope I haven't unfortunately.
Do you like the variation?
@@Quixorion yeah. just EQed 200hz region. Its a detail monster
Nice video for the variations man, for me the 3k region is too much when comparing with a flat speaker. The treble is also lacking in the 6-8k region (graph shows it’s slightly rolled). Great stuff!
Agreed. The 3K can get a bit much. I think the treble area is supposed to be a few dbs rolled off from the target since Harman tested it at 85dbs. So if you listen at a lower volume then you probably want more 6-8k like you said :)
@@jayyaudio Totally agree, for me it wasn’t good at lower volumes or high volumes because of the issues I mentioned.
@@realaudioreviews Ohh I see. I'm more treble sensitive so it worked out alright for me at mid-volume (3K aside). You'll probably like the OG Monarch then since it's more tamed in the 3K and more treble.
@@realaudioreviews 🤣 6-8k sounds dry but but 3k is perfect it maybe shouty to you but it sounds natural
It's very good sounding better than any trash under $1000
Like U12T is

I was divided for my first U$200< IEM between variations and performer 8. Went for variations and am waiting for it to arrive. I wanted a solid 8< score IEM to know how it was like.
How is the variations?
Searched a little more and found the mangird xenns top. Cancelled the variations order, and grabed the TOP. Jay have Reviewed it and mentions It on his lists too. The Bass tuck on variations got me scared cause i listen to lots of edm, house, metal besides jazz and other acoustic stuff. Am happy with the TOP but you need to like some Bass on your songs. One more analitical IEM i have and do love , and Jay also have review of It, is the performer 8. Just the right amount of everything frequency-wise to sound reasonably fun and an extra treble for really pleasing details on everything. Its my go to for more calm, airy, relaxed genres
@xeabel thanks for the review, if you could keep one (ignoring price) what will it be?
Performer 8 @@unclethathurts The TOP is a solid choice and even better in some aspects and situations, but the details and the clear listening the P8 delivers is unmatched as in what i have listened so far (xenns TOP, dunu vulkan, kato, aria, 0h10s, Fh eclipse, s12 pro)
Please : As for the basses, the Variations has more bass in terms of punch/range/depth than the Sony XBA-Z5 ?
Haven't heard the Sony sorry
nice editing
thanks nice cut bro
@@jayyaudio how long did it take you to edit this video?
Whay is your opinion on Seeaudio Bravery AE sound?
Haven’t heard it sorry
Hi Jay hey man do you own the variations? How does it compare to Chopin? Price to performance, value..etc
Chopin is 85% of the Variations I'd say - missing that sub-woofer feeling, and slightly less resolving
@@jayyaudiomissing that sub woofer like sound but it has more mid bass. Isn't it's like monarch or Ej07m in bass ?
where can i get a csv of that compensated df target?
I EQd the Variations LOL
What other iem has that subwoofer like bass?
QKZ HBB Khan & Truthears Zero
i m not sure if that 8khz is not real.If it was so all the iems should have it more or less
8K is artifact error from measurement so just ignore
Variations almost perfectly matches the Harman 2019v2 which was made based on preference instead of trying project a bass shelf on an DF target when it's already done for you.
Ling long might be another entry option
What that h#%^ did you just write. Ffs.
With $200 is there iem that almost good as variations?
Quarks DSP
I'm willing to be educated on this if I'm wrong but I feel like chasing the objectively most correct audio reproduction and targets rooted in actual research you at least know what it is you're after and what the endgame should sound like. Variations seems to reflect that philosophy. Otherwise this hobby feels like a neverending pursuit of the next best thing that always seems to be right around the corner. Considering brain burn in is a thing I might as well just "reset" my taste and get used to the "correct" tuning knowing this presentation doesn't add or take away any information from the source. Also the more coloration you get from your gear the less likely it is to sound good across genres which always seems to be the trade-off when you're after that extra something.
There's a case to be made about HRTF but having an accurate sound reproduction across the spectrum is probably a better starting point than choosing iems based on a single peak or dip you're sensitive/insensitive to.
Ya basically. Variations like tuning sounds the most correct and works the best for most if the song you're listening to is produced and mastered with specific intentions, but there are instances in production where they purposely over boost a region (usually uppermids or treble) to make it sound better on radios, stores, malls and different/louder environments where it otherwise would be drowned out. I think this is where alternative tunings can come in to try and compensate for the unnaturally boosted regions.
@@jayyaudio Great point, though getting a set for every possible mastering scenario is just unfeasible for budget conscious consumers, whatever their budget may be. It takes us back to said chase and it's never just one set for hip hop and edm, one for acoustic, and one for vocals or whatever. There's always gonna be that one more you need 😑
I'd much rather have a single transparent iem and accept the sad reality some recordings are just bad and maybe EQ it sometimes. Alternate tuning iems should be cheap btw
Anyway how does the variations take EQ?
Quarks DSP is no way near in mids as vari
That HBB graph is not right
Quarks DSP has less 3k-6khz region but sounds natural and smoother and treble rolls off after that resulting in muted upper treble
But still fine tho
EDX Ultra sounds better than Quarks DSP it has better Bass better upper treble
Mids in Quarks DSP and Edx ultra is same while EDX Ultra has wider soundstage instruments sounds more clear
Edx ultra is bit sharper tho at 12khz ssss sounds are sharp a bit
I'm sorry brother....my favorite is and always been the IKKO OH7 .......
