Overall tech is the same as B3 with an improvement in the tuning, but if you already have the B3 just EQ, if you’re coming from the B2 Dusk I’d just grab the Hype 4, Cincotres, Nova, or others. Dsp is both a cheap way out and a golden finish. Unfortunately with moondrop link we've got the fools gold :D I was expecting a cirrus logic based dsp unit not an Aliexpress bargain bit.
That's why Blessing 2 :Dusk and S8 should never be discontinued. Most of expensive Moondrop IEMs became redundant after them (Variations not included, of course).

Good review. Sounds honest enough. Maybe a bit harsh at most. I did come at you that day for almost sounding excited to hate the Dusk. It's okay now. I'd never purchase an Iem like the Dusk myself. I'd never purchase an iem whose major selling point is dsp and eq. That just sounds off to me. Even if you're charging 1000$ for an iem or a headphone , make the STOCK tuning worth it. Then comes the accessories. Not the eq profiles lol . I've EQd the Salnotes Zero to the Hype 4 tuning to get a taste of it. Does it mean the Salnotes Zero is worth 400$? Or even a 100$? No dude! It's still a good 20$ iem. With that tuning, the Dusk can be a 200$ iem at most. EQ and dsp doesn't mean you can charge even a dollar more, let alone 150$!
I am not spending Dusk money for "better than average". I decided to give the Moondrop May a try, mostly for the DSP and to try the app. I am more excited about the Tangzu x HBB Nv ( which seems similar to Hexa ). If I go above $200 now, it will likely be the Cincotres, but I am a huge Doscinco fan, and ZiiGaat.
Man, I thought you were going to murder the dusk, but the review actually ended up being pretty fair in my mind. It’s overpriced, and the qc sucks, end of story. Maybe I’m biased about you being biased about Crin’s own bias for his own products, but whatever…..
The Dusk might not get Jays approval (although it is pretty clear that he has some degree of aversion towards Crin), but it has gotten fantastic reviews from Super reviews (five stars), Gizaudio and HBB. So in the end you have to decide which reviewer has your sound preference and has earned her trust.
My aversion to Crin is around his sales/marketing tactics and integrity -if his IEM sounds good then it's good, and it is, like I mentioned in the review, just nothing crazy like others have claimed, Also, Timmy and Super reviews are literally friends with Crin
Okay but let's take a step back and think for a second. gizaudio Is slash or maybe was crin's editor and they have a personal relationship right? Hbb also has a vested interest in collaborations being successful (although I've heard some people refer to his review as relatively negative, but whatever it's only up for him to say). I mean really any big audio creator risks alienating future collaboration projects if they start trashing these things too often. Not to mention the onslaught of backlash they would get from fans of the biggest audiophile channel on RUclips. Crin It's not just a dude at this point, it's a pretty huge audio media brand / licensing tool and it's actually alarming how little skepticism there is of him and all of his conflicts of interest among larger creators. They'll admit it when they're not in public of course but once they're on camera no one wants to be too critical of a high-profile collaboration because maybe they won't get invited to do the next one. Basically collaborations have become a ridiculous conflict of interest and I think have been pretty bad for the hobby as a whole.
There's also tangzu ba jie in the upcoming releases, 14.2mm DD + 3 BA + 1 EST (could be PZT considering tangzu's trackrecord), which sounds like an interesting idea but there's very little info DaVinci is probably the most interesting one coming out soon though, $300-$350 price range (or $299 in one of gizaudio's latest comments) will be the dusk's direct competition, and I don't think I've ever heard of dunu QC issues Either way, time will tell what happens

If we're talking eq, try Artti t10 with divinus velvet tips and add 3db low shelf filter at 300hz. Endgame for $65. Adds weight and a more natural timbre for most songs
crin tax.... I feel like sometimes customers that are into these collaborations are forgetting this. These audio companies had audio engineers, but they weren't famous. But now they're paying quasi RUclips celebrities to license their name on their products and to take advantage of their huge RUclips audiences.... You are paying for the extra cost! Collaborations are making everyone money except for customers who are just paying more than they would have otherwise....
I mean yeah, but realistically the "Crin tax" is the price diff between the Moondrop Blessing 3 and the new Dusk (so around the lines of 30 or 40 dollars if I'm not wrong), any overprice past that about this earphone is more of a "Moondrop tax", Crin can't make Moondrop cut the base price of the base model on which the new Dusk is based.
First of all congratulations on your collab buddy, can't wait to see it. :) Second, lets have a talk. I feel weird about your take on this review. It feels like you're reviewing the brand and the reviewer rather than the product itself; you're reviewing their decisions rather than products quality as a whole. Your obsession with the "6k peak marketing gimmick " etc is rather obsessive in my opinion. And let me be clear on this; I mostly agree with you. Ever since the blessing 2 dusk other players in the industry has been focusing on delivering the same result with lower price while trying to add something more. And the current market is a result of this maturity movement. And although you might disagree with me I believe in this perspective New Dusk actually has a solid position in the market BUT with a caveat of its own. New dusk is focused on delivering a headphone like experience, and since it has a downslope harman (not so extended vocals etc) it kinda excels at. In fact it is one of the 3 options for this tuning of you're on the market for revealing but not overexggerated tuning. Others being the Hisenior Mega5est and subtonium storm. I think this new tuning; 8db pinna, slowly rising bass and a small subbas shelf is a great addition to the market and dusk being the cheapest and one of the most successful ones (very smooth unlike the kiwi quintet with its kinda spicy lower treble) it does deserve its place. But I think the biggest problem with it is it's massive 16k peak and it's lackluster user experience. Accessory wise it's bone dry; only one set of spirits with no extra replacement? Its kinda cheapskate offer from any brand in my opinion. And cable? Eh Jamie roasted moondrop pretty well in his video in my opinion. Even truthear hola has better cable. But the nail on the coffin in my opinion is the moondrop link app and that dsp cable. It's a pain in the ass. I'm fine with dsp tech but that thing uses a cheap dac amp and a beta app. I think dsp should have been completely app free with web extension only. Or do a better job at the app. Qudelix 5k has done this and they've been on the market for years.. and that thing has an ess dac on board. I think dsp module should have beed based on the cirrus logic dac that is used on the moondrop dawn pro. They have been pumping out this on the market for a while and I believe they have the necessary business strategy to order more of this chip. It should have been a completely balanced output with cirrus logic based dac. And instead of an app they should have used a web interface for parametric eq options. But parametric eq is poweruser tool. For everyday user they should have used a button based operating system with 4 eq profiles One color for each and black for analog. Plus moondrop could have sell this dsp module for 80 bucks as a competitor for Qudelix 5k. If they had offered the dusk with this setup with more acceories it would have been a sweeter offer but with its current state its a hard sell. If eq in on the table other options like quintet is better. People can buy that and a qudelix 5k and call it a day. Heck even a cheap planar like Artti t10 can be a perfect solution for an eq based option. See jay; this is what I was hoping you to say. I'm not disagreeing with you but I think you've focused too much on the pricing and the marketing. And instead of criticizing the product you've criticized the business. Other reviewers' offers are also great options EXCEPT hbb's hades. IDK what he was thinking man that thing is hot garbage. Oh I love bass but that thing is trash instead of being a bass head iem. Give me a cheap planar IEM with a 4126 measurement and I'll give you an endgame bass head iem. Dsp based of course. Because why not? Why offer a junk for 50 bucks when you can offer gold for 90?

"Mid simgots" I share a similar outlook as crin in this topic; ea500 and 1000 is Good but overhyped; first; you've got ew200 from simgot itself, than you've got zero red and planar and Hexa, why would anyone should look at the ea500 or 1000? Please tell me. Their tuning is good but they are outbidded by their competitors AND themselves. "Singolo" that thing has a resonator to cut frequencies, Aful MagicOne has a resonance tunnel. It cuts the treble with low shelf effect not bass, MagicOne's ba probably has an extremely extended upper mid and treble along with linear bass in its stock form. And by "subwoofer like" crin probably means a bass shelf filter like the one in zero red or blue. But singolo lacks the air frequencies to highlight that feel. And that upper mid resonance also f.cks up the balance. Crin would give a b+ for this tuning for this. AND yes its value proposition sucks. "Gatekeeping, advertising, incentives for brands" (you went full sharur in this one you know?) As far as I can see he doesn't really incentive any brand, each brand gets a win from him (a tuning that is classified as A) if; an iem's bass is tuned in a way it cuts the mix with a balanced manner, mids are good, and treble is neither bothersome or extended tastefully. No matter the brand (except kz because f.k kz) He's a lazy mf though, he has to keep IEF up to date.
As well as the jabs at crins other iems in review that have nothing to do with them ,just feel weird and out of place,like talking about the Symphonium Titans midrange and the dusk came up like the dusk is 2.7x less expensive why even mention it? And the over focus on crins tuning choices ,i understand it's the same type of tuning again and again, but that kinda only holds turn for his later iems, in addition to some of iems you, yourself praise are various of warm-Harman diffuse field ,Chopin, nova ,cincotres ,etc.
there is a peak at 14250khz on the 5128 graphs. You should eq down that by -4 db to listen slightly louder. Its basically just a hype 4 alternative it seems, a tad more neutral though.
You just exposed 90% of the reviewers who are hyping this up. Almost everyone is saying that the Dusk shoots way above its price when only you and another youtuber named "Whatsnew" said that even a $200 IEM can match this. Also, if the Dusk can be driven to its fullest potential by the tiny DAC/AMP in the DSP cable, it means you don't need expensive DACs or DAPs to run IEMs. Some of these $3000 DAPs, build like a brick offer just 10hrs of music playback when a cheaper and slimmer smartphone with smaller battery can offer thrice as much. I wonder what the upgrade from my 7hz legato will be? I regret buying a basshead set and listen to it by EQing down the bass substantially from my phone. It becomes way more detailed but sometimes sounds artificial. Don't suggest the Monarch Mk3 cause i would rather buy an open back headphone at that price and get way more value for money. Want something that would bring out the emotions from the music.
We've seen MoonDrop having QC issues, some quite serious, with their recent releases, and one(or two) of those even being flagship models. With all those QC issues they've had, i was expecting them to double down on their QC this time around, given that it's a collab and not just solely their name and their brand's reputation that's on the line. Now they've got QC issues all over the place, from channel imbalance issues, to dsp app issues, to who knows what other issue is going to pop up days or months after people have had their Dusk and put it through its paces. It appears things are still going downhill for MoonDrop. And it also appears that they are not paying attention to the direction their headed down to.
Really for me the question is whether the IEM itself is worth $350 absent the DSP. And your answer is hell no, and i believe you. The DSP cable is worth $30, if that, given all the bugs. Actually worth nothing to me since I use my phone and have USB Audio Player Pro with the Morphit Tonebusters PEQ plugin. Back to deciding between the Chopin, Nova, and Quintet for my step up.
ZiiGaat Cincotres Vs Hype 4, how big the difference between them and is worth picking up hype 4 or Cinco as an upgrade from the 100$ iems, Mine(the melody) or even the ea500 lm?
(LONG comment incoming...) Unfortunately, I fell into the hype machine and preordered these. While waiting, I did order a Free DSP cable to mess around with on my collection (Wan'Ner, HEXA, Melody, Quartet) to try and become familiar with it. The cable is terrible. NO matter the set I put them on, I can hear random noise. I may order one of the recommended sets in the comparison list to run against these and we'll see if I keep them or not.
disagree with some takes with the tuning 'issues' and comparisons but everyone has their own opinion. I personally bought a pair after demo and comparing it to other iems so I know that at the very least, I'll like it. It is nice to get more reviews out for the Dusk though so people can get different view points though, just hoping that you're not too biased by your dislike of crin
Thanks goodness the market has dethroned complacent brands that overprice their stuff. The doscinco and the hype4 are looking more and more appealing to me these days but I have no need to hold more than 2 set. If they can hold their spot by the autumn of 2024 I might pull the trigger on one of those. Anybody wants a Chopin set for 124€?
This would be a good time to remind everyone that you shouldn’t listen to just one reviewers opinion. Whether it’s Jay, Giz, Super or even Crin. This hobby, for the most part, is a very subjective one. With an IEM as popular/hyped as the Dusk, of course you’re going to have people who don’t like it or say it’s not worth the price. If you watch 100 reviews and it’s a 90/10 spilt from positive to negative, odds are it maybe something you like. Of course we don’t know these people. Some may give this a positive review cause they like Crin/Moondrop and vice versa. Ultimately, we can use reviews as a crutch for a purchase decision and if we don’t like it, return it. But I try not to take one persons opinion as the word of gospel.
deal breakers for Dusk is DSP cable doesn't work on DACs/amps/DAPs and the DSP cable sounds worse on the phone's amp making the whole thing useless. biggest one is channel imbalance. @jay where did you buy it that lets you return an IEM after using it? (Moondrop claims the imbalance is within acceptable range)
i don't understand why its an issue , DSP is supposed easy mode plug and play 88 no amps no dac no eq if you want to DAC/AMP/EQ and anything actually just to the analog????there are many forum already that people use the analog with all the preset of DSP and dont use the DSP cable at all...
im just rocking my og arias, i will only ever use 3.5 analog. I've seen the horrors of moondrop's accessories. Never trust the wires or the eartips. The cases are nice though. I would like to upgrade from the Aria eventually, but i love them.

It's not just simple eq. those eq done by a professional. The point I want to make is dsp is not completely useless. Lets not mention most of us dont know how to eq properly

Not gonna lie, the waifu for the dusk is kinda mid. I’m actually tempted to buy the new Tangzu iem that HBB worked with them on purely on the waifu since it’s under $100 dollars. I eq my blessing 2 to the blessing 2 dusk and never bought the b2d. No interest in the b3, or Moondrop anymore. I’m gonna keep saving up for the xenns top or monarch
I spent almost a full day messing with this DSP cable. When adjusting the minimum 60hz, it causes an audible exact 1khz tone. As I move this adjusment up, this tone gets quieter and lower pitched dissapearing at around 160hz. If you place another filter near here, this minimum without the noise goes up. Does anyone else have this issue? No bass adjusment is hell.

Yeah I don’t know about the dusk it seems like a lot of work and hassle I’m more of a plug and play into my dongle dacs and amps… but I do eq…It seems as if the dusk is more or less a slight upgrade if at all from the prior blessings… and I didn’t really like the blessings at all really… I’ll stick with my Oracle hype 4 Dunu sa6 Xenns up and symphonium meteor … really think the hype 4 is best bang for buck! Although I am very interested in Dunu DaVinci … Dunu always kills it and it’s supposed to be a mini storm tuning… killer
I have B2 Dusk and I like it's tuning, except for the bass which is not strong enough for my taste and EQ-ing is a no go, because the DD can't handle it. Enter Dusk, which has pretty much the same analog tuning, but much more EQ friendly drivers (I assume, my set hasn't arrived yet). Does B2 Dusk cost $300+? Yes. Should B2 Dusk and Dusk cost less. In this market, also yes. As you said, Crin + Moondrop tax. I have Chopin, it's great, but I still need to EQ it to get to my personal target, so I rather just fall back on Timeless AE, which EQs like a champ. I don't know if any single DD can emulate planar's bass. Maybe the dual DD in Dusk can do better. The only thing that genuinely worries me about Dusk is the alleged poor QC causing large difference between L and R. If that turns out to be the case with my set, I'll be returning it. If not, I'll be selling B2 Dusk and Chopin. (edit) P.S. I use Equalizer APO + Peace on PC for EQ-ing, or FiiO BTR7 with FiiO Control app for wireless, so I don't plan on using DSP cable much, except maybe when I'm traveling. Even then I might opt for BTR5 instead.
Iem crowd isn't really the true audiophile. Iem (moondrop hype beasts) crowd is like grown league of legends kids that just started making a paycheck for the first time

Off topic question about the monarch mk3s. I recall you noted that there were inconsistent measurements or channel imbalances on 2 units of the monarch mk2. Do you know if the mk3s suffer from the same qc issues?
Actually the blessing 3 is 2DD and 4 BA, there's no planar, Crin changed the BA tweeters for micro planars for "better extension" his words... That's why it's just Dusk and not Blessing 3 Dusk, 😊
Dusk is at this point redundant and unfinished product from my point of view if crin couldn't achieve his desired tuning in analog way. Every single company could have tuned their IEMs perfectly when using DSP, which is basically just EQ.
Can you tell me what's the best iem with eq then? This could be a whole movement but most reviewers just review iems as is without rarely ever discussing about eq to fix the shortcomings (which always confuses me since everybody always praises eq as the holy grail but nobody ever talks about it or teaches it, it's either you know or you're fucked and keep spending more on less optimally tuned iems for forever)

Need to consider if that 'better' is near the maximum potential of the 1000--logic tells me (since I don't have dusk or 1000). Coming from Cincotres stock tuned the modded/tuned LM could be nicer. Take out the foam in the gold nozzles, EQ to preference and technically it's more fun and detailed. But safe tunings with more tech theoretically can better use the EQ--so tuned 1000 to match LM would be clearer, even if LM starts off sounding nicer to the ears. I imagine the same logic applies between the mod LM and Dusk, if AutoEQing Tres to match the RSV blows the LM away in my experience (at first Tres was better in all but treble when I A/B'd--Tres being cheaper than dusk). Which coincidentally matches a lower bracket test with Tanchjim zero to Salnotes zero. Wavelet and peaceEQ probably negate the DSP value since it'd be redundant.
I didn't understand this 05:57 Is this about Dusk with analog cable or the DSP cable? If it's about the latter, how can the sound be changed with different sources with the DSP cable if the cable itself has a DAC and AMP inside it? Of course, if the USB port is crappy, the sound can be a bit less clean or quieter, but it's not the amp of the source that makes the difference as I understand it, because the cable itself has an amp in it, so it bypasses any internal amplification of the device you are plug in it (if the device has it to begin with).
@@jayyaudio Yeah, maybe. But this isn't relevant to the (untended) DSP use case. Or did you mean that it sounds better with the same EQ applied via second party software to the DUSK connected via the analog cable to a better source VS DUSK with a DSP cable set to the default setting?

THE NOISE IS NOT THE PAUSES! the noise you can hear is the noise floor, it stops because the dac cuts out when nothing is playing. It looks like they carried the same dac from the quarks dsp.
How about the sub bass? I mean crin already mention that it was sub bass focus and not the be all mean all like the original dusk. also the dsp is like a free accessory you don't have to use it. it's only $30 more than blessing get what you like, I don't think it's such a deal breaker. And if you're gonna EQ the headphone anyway then why don't test between blessing and dusk to see which has better high frequency compliance when tuning. That would make a deal breaker comparison, we need to see if the planar driver is worth it over the BA driver on the high frequency since the bass driver and mid is the same.
The DSP was a selling point and it didn’t work. Sub-bass is good, but vocals are too soft, and the treble has metallic timbre/sound sharp. He’s trying to go for a balanced tuning, but it’s not balanced. EQ wise the micro-Planars have a bit of sharpness vs the original BAs, so I would just EQ the Blessing 3.
Hey , could you give me an advice? I have hiby r3 ii dap and want to buy blessing 3(to use it with 4.4 mm balanced). Should i go with blessing 3 or maybe dusk? I m listening to electronic music and prefer clear monitor sound(like to hear tracks how they were made). I dont like an idea with dsp as i have dap. So most of my music library aren't vocal focused. So this IEM is the best and possibly on par wih my variations. I just got back from Singapore and tried the dusk out, and just ordered them online. The DSP i like because i hate bringing a dongle since it droops out of my pocket. Ive also tried the Nova, and not very good personally. So for now, on my android, with DSP, on the Dusk, i highly recommend. 👌👌
@@gaminggratis3651 I love my variations, but I would recommend the Dusk. But it depends on your library. I listen to hip hop, EDM, Latin music, trap music, and that is much more catered to the Dusk. But the Variations are much better in vocals like kpop, pop, female vocals, and also a bit better in micro details but not by much. So I'd say if it matches your library, pull the trigger. If it doesn't, the stick with the Variations. I use my variations for gaming now and I have my monarch mk3 as my daily, and I'm replacing my mk3 with the Dusk
The "final extention to the vocals" is just a small specific tuning preference that is suited for some genres and not others. That has nothing to do with quality or overall goodness. This seems a bit like a graph review with mostly references to what other people have said instead of saying much yourself. True that the app isn't ready for market and I expect it to get fixed soon or MoonDrop is playing with fire as they'll ruin their name with the new direction they are taking.

Based on this I at least have no idea what it sounds like with a meaningful degree of specificity, but I'm very clear on how you are not impressed and rely on a handful of other reviewers to make the point even if most of them praised the Dusk overall. Seems like something between a normal review and a Sharur video.

Overall tech is the same as B3 with an improvement in the tuning, but if you already have the B3 just EQ, if you’re coming from the B2 Dusk I’d just grab the Hype 4, Cincotres, Nova, or others.

Did u try to eq the analog to the dps curve?
I was trying to check if the analog eqd to the dsp would sound the same as the dsp. Since crinnacle did put out eq settings for the analog.

That's why Blessing 2 :Dusk and S8 should never be discontinued. Most of expensive Moondrop IEMs became redundant after them (Variations not included, of course).

I decided to give the Moondrop May a try, mostly for the DSP and to try the app. I am more excited about the Tangzu x HBB Nv ( which seems similar to Hexa ). If I go above $200 now, it will likely be the Cincotres, but I am a huge Doscinco fan, and ZiiGaat.

honestly goated review, ive been looking for the comparison between dusk and B3 all over. (I like the silver better)
The Dusk might not get Jays approval (although it is pretty clear that he has some degree of aversion towards Crin), but it has gotten fantastic reviews from Super reviews (five stars), Gizaudio and HBB. So in the end you have to decide which reviewer has your sound preference and has earned her trust.
My aversion to Crin is around his sales/marketing tactics and integrity -if his IEM sounds good then it's good, and it is, like I mentioned in the review, just nothing crazy like others have claimed, Also, Timmy and Super reviews are literally friends with Crin
Okay but let's take a step back and think for a second. gizaudio Is slash or maybe was crin's editor and they have a personal relationship right? Hbb also has a vested interest in collaborations being successful (although I've heard some people refer to his review as relatively negative, but whatever it's only up for him to say). I mean really any big audio creator risks alienating future collaboration projects if they start trashing these things too often.
Not to mention the onslaught of backlash they would get from fans of the biggest audiophile channel on RUclips.
Crin It's not just a dude at this point, it's a pretty huge audio media brand / licensing tool and it's actually alarming how little skepticism there is of him and all of his conflicts of interest among larger creators.
They'll admit it when they're not in public of course but once they're on camera no one wants to be too critical of a high-profile collaboration because maybe they won't get invited to do the next one.
Basically collaborations have become a ridiculous conflict of interest and I think have been pretty bad for the hobby as a whole.
There's also tangzu ba jie in the upcoming releases, 14.2mm DD + 3 BA + 1 EST (could be PZT considering tangzu's trackrecord), which sounds like an interesting idea but there's very little info
DaVinci is probably the most interesting one coming out soon though, $300-$350 price range (or $299 in one of gizaudio's latest comments) will be the dusk's direct competition, and I don't think I've ever heard of dunu QC issues

If we're talking eq, try Artti t10 with divinus velvet tips and add 3db low shelf filter at 300hz. Endgame for $65. Adds weight and a more natural timbre for most songs
crin tax.... I feel like sometimes customers that are into these collaborations are forgetting this. These audio companies had audio engineers, but they weren't famous. But now they're paying quasi RUclips celebrities to license their name on their products and to take advantage of their huge RUclips audiences.... You are paying for the extra cost!
Collaborations are making everyone money except for customers who are just paying more than they would have otherwise....
I mean yeah, but realistically the "Crin tax" is the price diff between the Moondrop Blessing 3 and the new Dusk (so around the lines of 30 or 40 dollars if I'm not wrong), any overprice past that about this earphone is more of a "Moondrop tax", Crin can't make Moondrop cut the base price of the base model on which the new Dusk is based.

I feel weird about your take on this review. It feels like you're reviewing the brand and the reviewer rather than the product itself; you're reviewing their decisions rather than products quality as a whole.
Your obsession with the "6k peak marketing gimmick " etc is rather obsessive in my opinion.
And let me be clear on this; I mostly agree with you.
Ever since the blessing 2 dusk other players in the industry has been focusing on delivering the same result with lower price while trying to add something more. And the current market is a result of this maturity movement.
And although you might disagree with me I believe in this perspective New Dusk actually has a solid position in the market BUT with a caveat of its own.
New dusk is focused on delivering a headphone like experience, and since it has a downslope harman (not so extended vocals etc) it kinda excels at.
In fact it is one of the 3 options for this tuning of you're on the market for revealing but not overexggerated tuning. Others being the Hisenior Mega5est and subtonium storm.
I think this new tuning; 8db pinna, slowly rising bass and a small subbas shelf is a great addition to the market and dusk being the cheapest and one of the most successful ones (very smooth unlike the kiwi quintet with its kinda spicy lower treble) it does deserve its place.
But I think the biggest problem with it is it's massive 16k peak and it's lackluster user experience.
Accessory wise it's bone dry; only one set of spirits with no extra replacement? Its kinda cheapskate offer from any brand in my opinion. And cable? Eh Jamie roasted moondrop pretty well in his video in my opinion. Even truthear hola has better cable.
But the nail on the coffin in my opinion is the moondrop link app and that dsp cable.
It's a pain in the ass. I'm fine with dsp tech but that thing uses a cheap dac amp and a beta app.
I think dsp should have been completely app free with web extension only.
Or do a better job at the app.
Qudelix 5k has done this and they've been on the market for years.. and that thing has an ess dac on board.
I think dsp module should have beed based on the cirrus logic dac that is used on the moondrop dawn pro.
They have been pumping out this on the market for a while and I believe they have the necessary business strategy to order more of this chip.
It should have been a completely balanced output with cirrus logic based dac. And instead of an app they should have used a web interface for parametric eq options.
But parametric eq is poweruser tool. For everyday user they should have used a button based operating system with 4 eq profiles
One color for each and black for analog.
Plus moondrop could have sell this dsp module for 80 bucks as a competitor for Qudelix 5k.
If they had offered the dusk with this setup with more acceories it would have been a sweeter offer but with its current state its a hard sell.
If eq in on the table other options like quintet is better. People can buy that and a qudelix 5k and call it a day.
Heck even a cheap planar like Artti t10 can be a perfect solution for an eq based option.

I get your criticisms; IEF needs to be up the date and crin has to acknowledge the needs of his viewers.

"Mid simgots" I share a similar outlook as crin in this topic; ea500 and 1000 is Good but overhyped; first; you've got ew200 from simgot itself, than you've got zero red and planar and Hexa, why would anyone should look at the ea500 or 1000? Please tell me. Their tuning is good but they are outbidded by their competitors AND themselves.
"Singolo" that thing has a resonator to cut frequencies, Aful MagicOne has a resonance tunnel. It cuts the treble with low shelf effect not bass, MagicOne's ba probably has an extremely extended upper mid and treble along with linear bass in its stock form. And by "subwoofer like" crin probably means a bass shelf filter like the one in zero red or blue. But singolo lacks the air frequencies to highlight that feel. And that upper mid resonance also f.cks up the balance. Crin would give a b+ for this tuning for this. AND yes its value proposition sucks.
"Gatekeeping, advertising, incentives for brands" (you went full sharur in this one you know?)
As far as I can see he doesn't really incentive any brand, each brand gets a win from him (a tuning that is classified as A) if; an iem's bass is tuned in a way it cuts the mix with a balanced manner, mids are good, and treble is neither bothersome or extended tastefully. No matter the brand (except kz because f.k kz)
He's a lazy mf though, he has to keep IEF up to date.
As well as the jabs at crins other iems in review that have nothing to do with them ,just feel weird and out of place,like talking about the Symphonium Titans midrange and the dusk came up like the dusk is 2.7x less expensive why even mention it? And the over focus on crins tuning choices ,i understand it's the same type of tuning again and again, but that kinda only holds turn for his later iems, in addition to some of iems you, yourself praise are various of warm-Harman diffuse field ,Chopin, nova ,cincotres ,etc.
One thing missed, but it is a killer, S+ feature of the Dusk: 5.7mm nozzle width.
there is a peak at 14250khz on the 5128 graphs. You should eq down that by -4 db to listen slightly louder. Its basically just a hype 4 alternative it seems, a tad more neutral though.

You just exposed 90% of the reviewers who are hyping this up. Almost everyone is saying that the Dusk shoots way above its price when only you and another youtuber named "Whatsnew" said that even a $200 IEM can match this.
Also, if the Dusk can be driven to its fullest potential by the tiny DAC/AMP in the DSP cable, it means you don't need expensive DACs or DAPs to run IEMs.
Some of these $3000 DAPs, build like a brick offer just 10hrs of music playback when a cheaper and slimmer smartphone with smaller battery can offer thrice as much.
I wonder what the upgrade from my 7hz legato will be? I regret buying a basshead set and listen to it by EQing down the bass substantially from my phone. It becomes way more detailed but sometimes sounds artificial. Don't suggest the Monarch Mk3 cause i would rather buy an open back headphone at that price and get way more value for money. Want something that would bring out the emotions from the music.

We've seen MoonDrop having QC issues, some quite serious, with their recent releases, and one(or two) of those even being flagship models.
With all those QC issues they've had, i was expecting them to double down on their QC this time around, given that it's a collab and not just solely their name and their brand's reputation that's on the line.
Now they've got QC issues all over the place, from channel imbalance issues, to dsp app issues, to who knows what other issue is going to pop up days or months after people have had their Dusk and put it through its paces.
It appears things are still going downhill for MoonDrop.
And it also appears that they are not paying attention to the direction their headed down to.
Expecting Da Vinci to be better, Dunu has much better QC.
Really for me the question is whether the IEM itself is worth $350 absent the DSP. And your answer is hell no, and i believe you. The DSP cable is worth $30, if that, given all the bugs. Actually worth nothing to me since I use my phone and have USB Audio Player Pro with the Morphit Tonebusters PEQ plugin. Back to deciding between the Chopin, Nova, and Quintet for my step up.

(LONG comment incoming...) Unfortunately, I fell into the hype machine and preordered these. While waiting, I did order a Free DSP cable to mess around with on my collection (Wan'Ner, HEXA, Melody, Quartet) to try and become familiar with it. The cable is terrible. NO matter the set I put them on, I can hear random noise. I may order one of the recommended sets in the comparison list to run against these and we'll see if I keep them or not.
disagree with some takes with the tuning 'issues' and comparisons but everyone has their own opinion. I personally bought a pair after demo and comparing it to other iems so I know that at the very least, I'll like it. It is nice to get more reviews out for the Dusk though so people can get different view points though, just hoping that you're not too biased by your dislike of crin

This would be a good time to remind everyone that you shouldn’t listen to just one reviewers opinion. Whether it’s Jay, Giz, Super or even Crin.
This hobby, for the most part, is a very subjective one. With an IEM as popular/hyped as the Dusk, of course you’re going to have people who don’t like it or say it’s not worth the price. If you watch 100 reviews and it’s a 90/10 spilt from positive to negative, odds are it maybe something you like.
Of course we don’t know these people. Some may give this a positive review cause they like Crin/Moondrop and vice versa. Ultimately, we can use reviews as a crutch for a purchase decision and if we don’t like it, return it. But I try not to take one persons opinion as the word of gospel.

im just rocking my og arias, i will only ever use 3.5 analog. I've seen the horrors of moondrop's accessories. Never trust the wires or the eartips. The cases are nice though.

Not gonna lie, the waifu for the dusk is kinda mid. I’m actually tempted to buy the new Tangzu iem that HBB worked with them on purely on the waifu since it’s under $100 dollars. I eq my blessing 2 to the blessing 2 dusk and never bought the b2d. No interest in the b3, or Moondrop anymore. I’m gonna keep saving up for the xenns top or monarch

I spent almost a full day messing with this DSP cable. When adjusting the minimum 60hz, it causes an audible exact 1khz tone. As I move this adjusment up, this tone gets quieter and lower pitched dissapearing at around 160hz. If you place another filter near here, this minimum without the noise goes up.
Does anyone else have this issue? No bass adjusment is hell.

Yeah I don’t know about the dusk it seems like a lot of work and hassle I’m more of a plug and play into my dongle dacs and amps… but I do eq…It seems as if the dusk is more or less a slight upgrade if at all from the prior blessings… and I didn’t really like the blessings at all really… I’ll stick with my Oracle hype 4 Dunu sa6 Xenns up and symphonium meteor … really think the hype 4 is best bang for buck! Although I am very interested in Dunu DaVinci … Dunu always kills it and it’s supposed to be a mini storm tuning… killer

I have B2 Dusk and I like it's tuning, except for the bass which is not strong enough for my taste and EQ-ing is a no go, because the DD can't handle it. Enter Dusk, which has pretty much the same analog tuning, but much more EQ friendly drivers (I assume, my set hasn't arrived yet). Does B2 Dusk cost $300+? Yes. Should B2 Dusk and Dusk cost less. In this market, also yes. As you said, Crin + Moondrop tax.
I have Chopin, it's great, but I still need to EQ it to get to my personal target, so I rather just fall back on Timeless AE, which EQs like a champ. I don't know if any single DD can emulate planar's bass. Maybe the dual DD in Dusk can do better.
The only thing that genuinely worries me about Dusk is the alleged poor QC causing large difference between L and R. If that turns out to be the case with my set, I'll be returning it. If not, I'll be selling B2 Dusk and Chopin.
(edit) P.S. I use Equalizer APO + Peace on PC for EQ-ing, or FiiO BTR7 with FiiO Control app for wireless, so I don't plan on using DSP cable much, except maybe when I'm traveling. Even then I might opt for BTR5 instead.

Off topic question about the monarch mk3s. I recall you noted that there were inconsistent measurements or channel imbalances on 2 units of the monarch mk2. Do you know if the mk3s suffer from the same qc issues?

Actually the blessing 3 is 2DD and 4 BA, there's no planar, Crin changed the BA tweeters for micro planars for "better extension" his words... That's why it's just Dusk and not Blessing 3 Dusk, 😊

Dusk is at this point redundant and unfinished product from my point of view if crin couldn't achieve his desired tuning in analog way. Every single company could have tuned their IEMs perfectly when using DSP, which is basically just EQ.
Can you tell me what's the best iem with eq then? This could be a whole movement but most reviewers just review iems as is without rarely ever discussing about eq to fix the shortcomings (which always confuses me since everybody always praises eq as the holy grail but nobody ever talks about it or teaches it, it's either you know or you're fucked and keep spending more on less optimally tuned iems for forever)
Probably Nova since it has the smoothest treble as EQ difficulties usually happen because of the peaky scoop and dips in the treble

Need to consider if that 'better' is near the maximum potential of the 1000--logic tells me (since I don't have dusk or 1000).
Coming from Cincotres stock tuned the modded/tuned LM could be nicer. Take out the foam in the gold nozzles, EQ to preference and technically it's more fun and detailed. But safe tunings with more tech theoretically can better use the EQ--so tuned 1000 to match LM would be clearer, even if LM starts off sounding nicer to the ears. I imagine the same logic applies between the mod LM and Dusk, if AutoEQing Tres to match the RSV blows the LM away in my experience (at first Tres was better in all but treble when I A/B'd--Tres being cheaper than dusk). Which coincidentally matches a lower bracket test with Tanchjim zero to Salnotes zero. Wavelet and peaceEQ probably negate the DSP value since it'd be redundant.
Is there an estimate date for your collab iem if everything goes smoothly?

I didn't understand this 05:57 Is this about Dusk with analog cable or the DSP cable? If it's about the latter, how can the sound be changed with different sources with the DSP cable if the cable itself has a DAC and AMP inside it? Of course, if the USB port is crappy, the sound can be a bit less clean or quieter, but it's not the amp of the source that makes the difference as I understand it, because the cable itself has an amp in it, so it bypasses any internal amplification of the device you are plug in it (if the device has it to begin with).

I don't think it's fair to compare the Dusk's presets with other iems you went out of your way to EQ. Average consumers dont know how to EQ.

THE NOISE IS NOT THE PAUSES! the noise you can hear is the noise floor, it stops because the dac cuts out when nothing is playing. It looks like they carried the same dac from the quarks dsp.

How about the sub bass? I mean crin already mention that it was sub bass focus and not the be all mean all like the original dusk. also the dsp is like a free accessory you don't have to use it. it's only $30 more than blessing get what you like, I don't think it's such a deal breaker.
And if you're gonna EQ the headphone anyway then why don't test between blessing and dusk to see which has better high frequency compliance when tuning. That would make a deal breaker comparison, we need to see if the planar driver is worth it over the BA driver on the high frequency since the bass driver and mid is the same.
The DSP was a selling point and it didn’t work. Sub-bass is good, but vocals are too soft, and the treble has metallic timbre/sound sharp. He’s trying to go for a balanced tuning, but it’s not balanced. EQ wise the micro-Planars have a bit of sharpness vs the original BAs, so I would just EQ the Blessing 3.
if we were to assume that these DSP and QC issues were to be fixed what would the ranking be between the Dusk, Tanchjim origin and the Hype 4’s?

The channel imbalance is worrying. I dont really care about the DSP cable.
So most of my music library aren't vocal focused. So this IEM is the best and possibly on par wih my variations. I just got back from Singapore and tried the dusk out, and just ordered them online. The DSP i like because i hate bringing a dongle since it droops out of my pocket. Ive also tried the Nova, and not very good personally. So for now, on my android, with DSP, on the Dusk, i highly recommend. 👌👌

@@gaminggratis3651 I love my variations, but I would recommend the Dusk. But it depends on your library. I listen to hip hop, EDM, Latin music, trap music, and that is much more catered to the Dusk. But the Variations are much better in vocals like kpop, pop, female vocals, and also a bit better in micro details but not by much. So I'd say if it matches your library, pull the trigger. If it doesn't, the stick with the Variations. I use my variations for gaming now and I have my monarch mk3 as my daily, and I'm replacing my mk3 with the Dusk

The "final extention to the vocals" is just a small specific tuning preference that is suited for some genres and not others. That has nothing to do with quality or overall goodness. This seems a bit like a graph review with mostly references to what other people have said instead of saying much yourself.
True that the app isn't ready for market and I expect it to get fixed soon or MoonDrop is playing with fire as they'll ruin their name with the new direction they are taking.

@@jayyaudio No, I said that concentrating so much on a single tuning preference as the biggest actual review portion of the sound seems a very small amount of information to give on an IEM compared to what is common. Based on this I at least have no idea what it sounds like with a meaningful degree of specificity, but I'm very clear on how you are not impressed and rely on a handful of other reviewers to make the point even if most of them praised the Dusk overall. Seems like something between a normal review and a Sharur video.
