    Subaru Crosstrek Sport 2.5 acceleration Test notes: The test was done with 2 people on board ( 400lbs ) and some cargo in the trunk. If you want better results, do a brake launch. No need to turn TCS off. Put the SI-Drive mode in Sport. Launch from 0 to 60 mph is better than ever, but passing 50-70 mph is still average.

    It’s a Crosstrek, it’s not made for speed. It does exceptionally well. Want speed, get an STI. The CVT and 2.5 get it up to speed quickly and efficiently.

    Here in Canada, most roads are limited to 50 km/h in town and 70 km/h on boulevards. Highway is at 100km/h. This engine is adequate to get me going to 50 km/h fast enought to have time to wait at the next red light before everyone else, because most drivers behind me have very small engines and can't go has fast. Sometimes there's a Porshe or a nice Mercedes that goes abit faster, but there's less than a car lenght once we hit 50 km/h. Should I talk about trail driving? I know someone that has 350hp trucks and we do trails together. He's not to impressed about his motor because the Subaru has half the power but manages to drive in comfort at speeds up to 25 km/h.
    Has you can imagine, I'm being sarcastic. This said, do you really, really need more power in a Crosstrek? Haha! Subaru are selling a massive amount of Crosstrek, both in the 2.0 and 2.5 Good job!

    Those constant revs under acceleration seem so weird. Can't they fit an 8-speed auto in this instead? That'd be an improvement in acceleration and driveability, surely?
    (Yes, I know Subaru is all about the CVT!)

    • @baetsimpson
      @baetsimpson 3 года назад +1

      I'm pretty sure that in I mode it fake shifts. I know the '15 will only fake shift, which kinda defeats the point of a CVT.
      Edit: The '15 will hold revs when more acceleration is needed. It helps get the most out of the 2.slow.

    Omg...the Subaru CVT is so slow to react. Those passing runs are terrible, it stays at 80km/h for another second after the pedal is pushed. Usually that's the one thing that CVTs are good at, immediately pushing the revs to the max when passing!

    • @OutdoorFun01
      @OutdoorFun01 4 года назад +2

      Usualy, if you are prepared to pass, it's because you took more than a couple of seconds to make sure it's safe to go... I guess when you get to know the car you put that in the equation.

      Camry.
      I mean what I said about the bad build quality, Subaru has always had issues with cheap materials inside and out, batteries that don't last, rattling, etc.
      The engines are bad because they're budget boxers. Twice the components, more weight, less rigidity, oil consumption issues, head gasket issues, costs more to manufacture and all for a 'lower center of gravity'.
      As for CVTs, I won't have to explain myself on this part.

    • @elusivellama
      @elusivellama 4 года назад

      Okay, fair enough. I encourage you to check your oil frequently, especially on a new car purchase, and especially on a Subaru. The way the pistons are oriented (horizontal), oil will tend to pool up in the heads and inside the chamber rather than drain into the pan. Then it gets burned off on start up. Just monitor it every few days and take it easy.
