  • "In Swamp Kings, Jason Ryan reveals Alex’s evil actions are only the tip of the iceberg. When it comes to the Murdaugh family of Hampton County, history has a way of repeating itself. For every alleged, headline-grabbing crime associated with Alex Murdaugh, mirror-image incidents have played out within his family’s past, including parallel instances of fraud, theft, illicit trafficking of babies and booze, calamitous boat crashes, and even alleged murder. There were some crimes committed by Alex’s kin that even he would not dare mimic.
Covering a century of depravity in an impoverished and isolated stretch of the Deep South, Swamp Kings weaves together the jaw-dropping narratives of generations of Murdaughs before culminating in the telling of a murder trial for the ages. Page after page the family’s legacy is laid bare as a spotlight is finally trained on the Murdaugh men who have long lorded over the South Carolina Lowcountry."

The sad thing is, even though the light has shined on how cruel these people to the downtrodden, nothing is going to change. Power will shift to others just as unscrupulous.

I believe otherwise , as the People awaken they will choose not to give their power away to these energies. We will have a choice to make , to evolve or stay in the same old tired patterns. Those who choose to find better solutions will not support this corruption, those who choose to, will remain stuck in the same loop.

Y’all have done an amazing job reporting on the corruption, etc in SC.
I live in the Tidewater region of VA, very similar to the low country. VA is also the only other state in the union where our legislature appoints our judges. They are not elected.
I worked in the legal community here for many years starting as a clerk for a local judge and then retiring from a law firm.
I was born and raised here as were my grandparents, great grandparents, etc Went as far away to Richmond to school and returned, married and raised my children here. I can certainly relate to these “good old boys” clubs, the corruption and the entitlement.
While I have watched things change here so much for the better, it emphasizes to me that it happened, and still happens in many small towns and regions in this country.
You have done an amazing job bringing awareness to these issues!
    Kudos! Y’all rock!

Great interview. I have a question… . I’ve always wondered about the ties Dick Harputlian and Jim had to the dynasty bc of their voracious defense of Alex. After a while u have to let ur client go….bc of unpaid legal fees etc…but they stick by him. Why? What does Alex have on him/them? Worked in law firms for 30 yrs and this attorney/client relationship seems unnatural. There is more there. Curious if u have thoughts on this?

I did not feel their defense of him was voracious or well defended at all …if I was Alex , i would have asked for a refund. If they want to know what voracious and hard work is, they should have asked the late, great Vincent Bugliosi ….lawyers today are lazy as sh-. These lawyers didn’t work hard.
