Why do people complain about Hayter now? Many people defended him back in 2013, but now people seem to be attacking him. He loved working with this franchise for over a decade, and then he was just dumped in one day, without even a word from Kojima. Hayter hasn't been crying about it either. He's been very mature about it actually. He only brings this up when asked about it; he hasn't personally slandered anyone; and he says he harbors no ill well to his replacement. So kudos to him. Even when been horribly mistreated, he still acts well-composed and likable
+Pan Z I think his complaints are justified considering how much he's done for the series. I love Kojima as well but his obsession with the Hollywood "A-List" made him disrespect the great talent he was already working with. I agree, Hayter's been a class act throughout this whole thing.
+Pan Z I don't know what the fuck you people go on about. I haven't seen anyone hating on him, and why the fuck would he be cast in a game that doesn't have Solid Snake in it?
Koroar Because he voiced BIg Boss in 3 other games? And Solid Snake is a clone of Big Boss, so, logically, he should have the same voice. That is why Otsuka voiced both Solid Snake and Solidus in MGS2
Pan Z Big Boss says about 2 lines in the game, and it's set in a completely different time. Hayter complained and everyone jumped on it and parroted him, it's really funny.
His character sounds the most like his natural voice. It takes a minute to hear the character in the rest of their speaking voices, but Christopher Randolph is just dead on.
Without Metal Gear Solid. We wouldn't have games like Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, Bioshock or The Last of Us. This game paved the way for narrative based video games. That is why it will always be my favorite game of all time. Thank you all for your performances.
Poor hayter, he took a fucking pay cut so twin snakes could be recorded with all the original voice actors. He obviously really liked the project. - cg
+Ali Dakhaikh Not only that I didnt expect him to be so brutally honest about his feelings on mgs5. I love Keifers performance as well but man my heart went out to David listening to his version of events. And not to put Kojima down at all, as Hayter said he remains a brilliant designer, but it was very disappointing to hear how little respect he seems to have for David if not down right jealousy. Especially so considering Kojima dealing with Konamis own jealousy towards his name being at the forefront of the series.
@@chriscuevas5383 I don't really think It's about jealousy. Kojima is famous and well known in the gaming world and I don't believe he really cares about such things but then again I don't know him, however I think it had more to do with the tone of the game he was trying to make and wanted something new and a bit more subtle compered to David. This was way more in depth and very fun to listen to. Like the editing and putting things, almost documentary style. And it was like multiple interviews at once and still cohesive
Everybody is in love with David Hayter voice (and They're right!), but Liquid's voice acting is the best voice acting in history! I have never heard better voice than Liquid's one! It's absolutely amazing!
This was amazing! Thank you guys for putting this together, it really provides such an in depth look at one of the key aspects that have made Metal Gear Solid such an amazing series. After so many months of being shrouded in mystery, we finally know why David Hayter was not part of MGSV. All these actors did such a tremendous job, and as a huge Metal Gear Solid fan, this piece really shed a lot of new light on things I hadn't even thought of before.
Thank you, on behalf of all metal gear fans for putting in what must have been hours of contacting, scheduling, technical problems and editing to put together this masterpiece. So good to hear it from the voice actors themselves.
Paul Eiding is such a great guy, and so is David Hayter. One can't help but admire the passion he had for Snake's role. He really cared about it more than just as a job.
He came to care about it more than just a job. He said that writing X-Men affected him more than voicing Snake in _Solid,_ but, as the years went on, and he recorded for more and more games, it would have become a bigger part of his life.
Sincerely this is one best interview of MGS voice cast EVER In addition of how much I learned from it, also how very well done job you guys have done on bringing these lovely group of people to us and see they are no less "epic" than the franchise we love.
In case no one has said it: It's revealed in the briefing to start the game that Liquid grew up in England which is where he got his accent--or something to that effect.
Kiefer may be a good actor, but there's only room for one Snake and that's David Hayter. Kojima maybe a genius, but he's not exempt from making mistakes.
Strider-Ragnarok Exactly man, I'll always respect Kojima, his work is more than anyone could ask for, but he's still just a dude. A dude who's a genius game designer, but maybe not the best businessman, or the most respectful communicator.
The real mistake would have been using David Hayter to voice Venom. Big Boss wasn't in MGSV really. Hayter was never replaced for the role that was his. Richard Doyle did voice Big Boss at the end of MGS4, but at that point you had Solid on screen too and a very aged Big Boss. It was a good decision there as well not to have him voice BB.
Strider-Ragnarok honestly Hayter is better as a young Snake, Kiefer made a better middle aged Snake, and didn't do that bad of a job. If anything Big Boss should have had a different voice than Solid Snake in the first place.
Guys, thank you for this video. Seeing these people talk about the series and the roles they've done has left me with catharsis. I've always wanted to hear the cast and Kris talk in-depth about the games. Metal Gear Solid has had such a huge impact on my life, it has literally shaped my life into what it is today, I can't even begin to describe to you how much this video meant to me. I'd watch the entire thing even if it was 5 hours long. I'm glad the actors enjoyed their work. I prefer the original MGS1 voice acting, and in my opinion it is one of, if not the best cast and voice acting in all of video game history.
Thank you GI for all the hard work and effort put into this. This was complete gaming bliss! I would have never of imagined to have seen something this honest, pure and fun. Thank you. Much respect!
This was excellent, thanks so much! Also thanks to everyone who took time out to contribute, really interesting. It's amazing that 18 years later, we're still learning new things about how MGS was created.
I wasn't going to watch this whole video today, and then i did, great work, great questions, the amount of respect all around in this video is heartwarming.
I've had this in my backlog to watch for a long while but once I started watching today I just couldn't stop. It was just so well put together. This game was magical for me in highschool, and it's still one of my favorite games of all time. Absolutely for sure my favorite performances from a game ever. I've always wondered how it went and what opinions everyone had in making it because they should be proud. Damn proud. Just like Randolph said this was probably the first time for video games. Where voice acting, and the performance actually meant something. This game and these actors changed gaming. They set the bar. Kojima didn't know the talent he had in David Hayter and it sucks that his A list ego got in the way and finally won.
I'm embarrassed that I haven't watched this till now. You guys did a GREAT EFFIN' job cutting all these interviews together. Still proud to have been part of MSG.
David was hanging with the crows recording this desert life. That’s amazing! Love that album! Would love to hang with all those guys! Also David shouldn’t be embarrassed about not being cast in MGSV. It was their loss! You are the one and only Snake and always will be plus 4 is an amazing sendoff.
+Frederick Guese Nice. It was a great interview. Great questions, really insightful. Also helps that that Snatcher, the original MGS and Silent Hill 2 are basically the holy trinity of video game storytelling in my eyes. As for the fanbase, I agree wholeheartedly, man. I haven't played MGSV, and I don't think I'll ever bother to.
This was so damn good. It's great to hear David finally speak more outwardly about the situation with MGS5. Kojima has seemed like a pretty conniving and slimy guy since after MGS4 and it seems many people who know him can confirm it. Thanks for the work on this, it was really cool and well-edited.
@@Koroar yawn. It’s always the same effortless response. Hayter voiced big boss in MGS3, peace walker etc. And in MGSV the Japanese actor stayed the same because he is basically a big deal over there. Kojima thinks Hayter isn’t a big deal and Kojima is all hard on for A listers it’s that simple. Kojima took an L with fans. And you seem to not be doing a good job defending him with weak remarks that can easily be refuted.
This was an absolute joy! I'd love to see more of this kind of content! Thanks for all your hard work! This is what professional games journalism is all about!
Guys! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! This game changed my life. And this was so awesome, blast from the past, got me a lil teary at points and 48:29 made me laugh very hard. What an amazing story about the location for the voice recording. So glad you guys put this together. Well done!
This is so wonderful. This is actual, compelling video game journalism. There's something intrinsically wrong with the world that allows a video like this to have 32,000 views while a video of Angry Joe crying over Arkham Asylum crashing rakes in millions.
Angry Joe isn't even funny and complains about some stupid stuff in the games too sometimes, I use to watch him before I realize I don't need this idiot to tell me whether a game is good or not and this is true videogame journalism and only the real gamers will understand the hard work and passion that went into all of this, I was just watching a bunch of other videos on Metal Gear Solid and just clicked on this one and I love it!!!! Fuck angry joe.
Really insightful and interesting video! Please make more of these happen! I'd love to hear specifics about the other Metal Gear Solid games. Meryl should have her own game. Meryl Gear Solid.
+Hawkeyesniper45 He dodged a bullet in my opinion. Phantom Pain sucked badly, I don't understand the love that game gets. It is so mediocre that it drives me crazy to see how it got so many awards and accolades. Sure the Fox Engine made the game play better than any other Metal Gear before it,but when it came down to the gameplay itself it was just a bunch of random missions that really had no cohesiveness to them (minus a few, maybe 5 in the game tops) where you either extract or kill someone, blow something up or extract this object. That is about the whole game in a nutshell. The mother base mechanic was old and tiresome. Motherbase itself was lifeless and pointless. The FOB shit and having to pay more money to get more of those is bullshit. Waiting to develop items is bullshit. Just because the game offers you lots of ways to play the game, it's meaningless if the game doesn't adapt to playing differently. What I mean you decide to go in and run and gun every mission, the game doesn't really adapt to it other than the guards now wearing body armor and shields. They don't increase security around the bases so there would be more troops and checkpoints. They still don't do rounds checking on prisoners or even bother to notice if they are gone (something Ground Zeroes actually did, they will do rounds and check on Paz if you take her and they discover she is missing the base goes on alert. Nothing like that happens in Phantom Pain). The weather means absloutely nothing in the game so it's a pointless addition, no high winds so it screws up your aim, rain doesn't make mud so then you leave muddy footprints that guards could follow (which MGS1,MGS2 had where you walk in water or snow and it leaves footprints that when spotted the guards investigate). Time didn't do much in the game either, I almost never used the phantom ciqar because it didn't change anything. The game was a mess of ideas but none of them really are fleshed out properly.
+CF-105 Games Is it a good game? sure, I've put 200 hours in it, is it a good MGS game? hell no, not a chance, the story is so bad, this wasn't the story anyone wanted to see, we were a random medic all along, wow, nice writing there... so Liquid leaves with a huge Metal Gear and we don't get to know what happened, awesome, might as well cut the entire Eli arc instead of that bullshit, where's the game with Big Boss himself building Outer Heaven, recruiting FOXHOUND members, to see a young Sniper Wolf and Frank, and him becoming a villain, etc... I was expecting the game to surpass MGS3's story and emotional impact, instead I got a giant turd. And regarding Hayter, I don't get it, so they change him for a big actor only to pretty much have a mute Snake in this game... that's is just adding insult to injury, Kojima is a fucking scumbag who didn't even have the decency to tell Hayter himself.
Christian Seraph No it's not a good game. I already went into WHY it is not. It's my opinion and I stand by it. I barely put in a 100 hours just to finish the story. After that I quit playing it because it was so miserable, I had to FORCE myself to just get to the end and if I have to do that it's not worth anymore of my time.
Hawkeyesniper45 Yeah they had good ideas but they only briefly touched on the surface and left it at that. I don't know if it is because of the infighting with Konami management basically making them rush the game out the door or poor design choices. Either way, Phantom Pain UNDER delivers.
What a great, in depth exploration of such a mythical moment of gaming. The recording of metal gear solid. Thank god these weren’t lost to the game informer closure.
Very nice vidoc people! I have a great appreciation for all the people involved in making games, but in my mind, the only element that makes a better player to game connection than the soundtrack (ie Skyrim, Metal Gear, Bioshock, etc.) are the voice actors' performances. They create memorable characters, be they famous or infamous, that leave a lasting impression on the player. I know many, many, many people work long hours and pour their souls into development, but it's not often (or maybe not often enough) that a game makes a lasting impression because of intuitive menu navigation or pixel count. All in all, it's awesome to get to hear/see the people that worked on the things we love. Great work and many thanks!
In my opinion the most artistically accomplished video game of all time, videos like this are sure to become an important part of history when it comes to this industry/medium.
Great video ! :D For me the first Metal Gear will be always the best one. They have done great job that's why you can play MgsI over and over and over again and you're not bored of it. As for Kiefer... He can be that Venom Snake... with that silly horn in his head.
I have 28 years old from Algeria , MGS1 represents for me a lot of memories with my best friends. We were sharing analysis about kojima hidden messages....this game is just amazing for us and the best game ever !
WARNING: Probable massive MGS Ground Zeroes spoiler at 54:10. I haven't played it yet and I'm crying right now. You have been warned. :( (otherwise, fantastic video!)
That segment about the relationship between Hayder and Kojima was pretty uncomfortable. I think it's important to talk about, but yikes. It's interesting to see how differently Hayder views him versus the fans of the franchise, and how disenchanted he is with Kojima professionally. Pretty eye-opening. Granted, it's only one side of the story.
TheDrumkid92 I prefer David over Kojima. And trust his honesty a lot more. He speaks from the bottom of the heart and down to earth and real! It bums me out when Hayter speaks about getting recast :( I guess in the end Kojima was the one who kept him waiting, huh
i feel for him
+hakejo You may not care for the ending but it was a decent ending. It did it's purpose of tying in the last solid game to the first MSX game.
Or it would, if we actually had a third chapter.
getblunted4life it was horseshit.
@@getblunted4life Kojima is overrated fuck that dude.
Forever legendary. One of the finest series ever.
Everything about this video is incredible... the pacing, the editing, the hosts, the guests.
This was strangely emotional for me. Thanks to everyone that put this together. So many years later its a great look back on the youth of many of us.
Kiefer may be a good actor, but there's only room for one Snake and that's David Hayter. Kojima maybe a genius, but he's not exempt from making mistakes.
Strider-Ragnarok My point all along.
Strider-Ragnarok Exactly man, I'll always respect Kojima, his work is more than anyone could ask for, but he's still just a dude. A dude who's a genius game designer, but maybe not the best businessman, or the most respectful communicator.
Strider-Ragnarok agreed. David Hayter is the one and only Snake. Every Snake
Such a special video about such a special game. Thanks for making it!
*Easily one of the most entertaining episodes EVER! Kudos to everyone who made this happen and love the deep cuts.*
wow this was amazing! I'm getting emotional just seeing and hearing this stuff. Awesome to see another video with Tim too T.T
The guy who voice "Otacon" Christopher Randolph sounds exactly like Bob Odenkirk AKA "Saul Goodman" from "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul."
I finished MGS1 for the first time just a couple of days ago, amazing game. Also, great video, very informative and well cut, awesome job, guys!
I can’t believe it took me 4 years to find this. Utterly awesome stuff!
Seven years, for me.
Amazing video. Im such a fan of MGS and watching this was truly entertaining and informative. Thanks!
Really great round up Game Informer. Thanks for putting this together for us fans ❤️
Thank you GI for all the hard work and effort put into this. This was complete gaming bliss! I would have never of imagined to have seen something this honest, pure and fun. Thank you. Much respect!
This is incredible! So glad we are able to see such a thorough retrospective from the immensely talented people who brought this iconic game to life
This was excellent, thanks so much!
This is great. Very nostalgic to hear their voices :)
Man, listening to all this got me really nostalgic; thinking about the good old times. Beating MGS1 on my good old PSX for the 100th time...
Metal Gear - probably one of the best franchises in gaming ever! 🎉
Crazy to think back to playing the first PS1 title, and not knowing what was come…!
This is pure magic, guys. Thank you so much for making this.
So much care. Awesome video
+KefkaProduction Your videos are great too :)
+Ben Bowker thanks !
+KefkaProduction *˝Such lust for commenting.˝*
Also, thanks to Jeremy Blaustein for the excellent localzation as well. He also helped out with directing the VA.
wow I thought I was the only one who remembered him
I knew he was heavily involved with KCET's Silent Hill games, but didn't know he had a hand in the Metal Gear games too.
Word. There's an excellent 12-part interview with him here on youtube.
My friend ran that podcast. The fandom has changed after Guns of the Patriots. I think for the worse IMO.
Haha Chris Randolf's voice and the sad mgs1 music.... can't help but wanna tear up
?
+axe427 Did you not play Metal Gear Solid?
This was phenomenal. Great job guys.
This is an excellent documentary. It really should have more views than the 65,000 it has now.
(Tell a friend!)
This was so damn good. It's great to hear David finally speak more outwardly about the situation with MGS5. Kojima has seemed like a pretty conniving and slimy guy since after MGS4 and it seems many people who know him can confirm it. Thanks for the work on this, it was really cool and well-edited.
+AEUGNewtype The "situation"? You mean not being cast in a game because Solid Snake isn't in it?
@@Koroar yawn. It’s always the same effortless response. Hayter voiced big boss in MGS3, peace walker etc.
And in MGSV the Japanese actor stayed the same because he is basically a big deal over there. Kojima thinks Hayter isn’t a big deal and Kojima is all hard on for A listers it’s that simple. Kojima took an L with fans. And you seem to not be doing a good job defending him with weak remarks that can easily be refuted.
@@Liamsnieceson "Yawn" as he replies to a 7 year old comment. I don't even know what you're talking about anymore kid.
This interview was "pretty goood".
This was an absolute joy! I'd love to see more of this kind of content! Thanks for all your hard work! This is what professional games journalism is all about!
Ps. We is miss you Tim! God speed!!!
This is amazing, i learned more about my favorite franchise
This was excellent, congrats to all those involved. Thanks Ben, Tim, and GI.
Guys! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! This game changed my life. And this was so awesome, blast from the past, got me a lil teary at points and 48:29 made me laugh very hard. What an amazing story about the location for the voice recording. So glad you guys put this together. Well done!
I had to use a ration, because I almost died.
Brilliant video, very well edited. Thanks for this guys!
Never has the recording of a video game been so explored ! You guys are truly amazing!
Marvellous job you guys! You have made a long time MGS fan real happy with this video!
The best video i have ever seen on youtube! amazing works guys I will share it until it reach 10000000000 views!!
It doesn't matter... To me, Hayter will always gonna be the Guyver... :)
Hearing how Hayter is dealing with MGSV is really sad. I feel bad for him.
+Hawkeyesniper45
He dodged a bullet in my opinion.
Christian Seraph
No it's not a good game. I already went into WHY it is not.
It's my opinion and I stand by it. I barely put in a 100 hours just to finish the story. After that I quit playing it because it was so miserable, I had to FORCE myself to just get to the end and if I have to do that it's not worth anymore of my time.
+CF-105 Games I agree. I think they had a good idea in mind making MGSV an open world game but it was executed horribly.
Hawkeyesniper45
Yeah they had good ideas but they only briefly touched on the surface and left it at that.
I don't know if it is because of the infighting with Konami management basically making them rush the game out the door or poor design choices. Either way, Phantom Pain UNDER delivers.
This was incredible. Thanks for your hard work guys!
Fantastic work, guys. I don't even play MGS and found this fascinating.
Really appreciated the effort here guys... You're pretty good!
this was very well done, editing was great. truly some interesting charcters
This is currently my favorite thing on RUclips, hands down.
Paul Eiding has a sticker that reads "I need scissors 61" in the background wall.
It's kind of sad that his most famous (infamous?) line is not even as the actual Campbell.
Brilliant interview. Well done!
this was fun to watch. Thank you to the cast and you guys who brought it to us.
I used to live and work in Japan. When she said that "The voice recording sessions are much more serious in Japan." I can definitely relate.
This was a joy to watch, thanks for the upload.
Great work!! You all did an amazing job.
Fantastic work guys this was really fun, educational and touching. :)
Great video! Thanks alot for putting this together.
In my opinion the most artistically accomplished video game of all time, videos like this are sure to become an important part of history when it comes to this industry/medium.
This is amazing. Thank you guys so much for putting this together.
This was excellent. Thank you for your hard work!
this is so cool dudes thanks for pulling this off and lifting the curtain :)
Great video, to everyone involved. Just listening to the audio and occasionally checking the video was a treat.
SUPER COOL VIDEO!! gj guys! Nice reunion!
WARNING: Probable massive MGS Ground Zeroes spoiler at 54:10. I haven't played it yet and I'm crying right now. You have been warned. :( (otherwise, fantastic video!)
Nice game, I learned good English trying to memorize the lyrics, MGS was my English teacher. Greetings from Colombia.
Whilst Kojima speaks out super blown EGO and narcissism - he is full of lies and of himself.
David Hayter deserves all the respect. Wish he gets another Metal Gear.
I wished David Hayter was in mgs5 because he was and will always be snake
Fuck kojima
@@Redmist-se7ld Anyone wanna help crowd fund a mod where we just have David re-record every line in MGSV one by one over Cameo?
@@lpnp9477 you'll only need him to do 10 cameos since venom had 10 lines in the game XD
