- Hot Fuzz (2007) SYNOPSIS: As a former London constable, Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) finds it difficult to adapt to his new assignment in the sleepy British village of Sandford. Not only does he miss the excitement of the big city, but he also has a well-meaning oaf (Nick Frost) for a partner. However, when a series of grisly accidents rocks Sandford, Nick smells something rotten in the idyllic village.

Apparently the filmmakers made such an effort to keep things realistic that a number of police agencies thanked them for accurately portraying their jobs.

What I love about this is NOBODY died, which implies everyone except for Nick is an absolutely atrocious marksman.
And Nick is such a good cop that all of his shots accurately hits non-lethal parts or other objects to disable the perps rather than killing them

@timmoroz7254I mean they are village police who have never handled a gun before. Simon Peggs character has done time in London meaning he could of been part of an armed unit.
British armed police doctrine is similar to American police doctrine, if it’s a threat you put enough bullets into it till it is no longer a threat
@@BlackenFrogThe opening of the movie already states that Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg's characters) WAS part of an armed response unit, so yeah, he definitely knows his way with guns.
There not supposed to kill them
i love how sergeant fisher spends the entire film asking angel for help in almsot every event as how to handle certain textbook situations like gas explosions and traffic collisions, but when it comes to an unorthodox situation of besieging a building filled with potentially dangerous individuals he has a plan and takes the lead. everyone has their specialties, its about knowing when to apply them.
The Shotgun Pump sound effect was used about 13 times, before any shots were fired.
That's a hidden joke there. How movies overuse gun foley (sound effects) so much.

I love the dozen gun cocking sounds they just throw in there. That and the butchers used bulletproof glass for their stall. It's the little things that matter.
Old comment but I think its a very intentional jab at how movies use extremely unrealistic cover from gunfire. That glass is stopping shotgun/rifle long ammo when even most bullet proof glass can only really handle small caliber ammo. Even military transport glass can barely take a few rounds of 7.62 before failure.
"Shame", "Yarp", "You're off the fucking chain" are now part of my obscure references vocabulary.
Always so sad when I imagine him saying it in a different way. Shame.

I like the way Edgar Wright shows consideration for the viewers. The fights "Nicolas vs. Lurge" and "Officers vs. Knife-throwing-guys" were filmed and cut in a very fast, exhausting way. After Nicolas defeats Lurge, he runs over to Danny and while both are talking, the camera shoots a onetake. So the viewer's eyes to relax.

Saw the gif before the movie. Thought this was a "They aren't doing this peacefully." "*loads shotgun* Shame." moment, not a "you missed an opportunity for puns" moment

I didn't notice until now that Danny keeps cocking his rifle as they're running to the supermarket and making their plan. lol
I like how he had a gun, but still chose to engage in a fist fight with the trolley boy
The whole point and philosophy of Sergeant Angel is to not kill anyone, that's why in the shootout scene he disamrs or subdues the enemies.

For me, it just makes it that extra bit funnier that they used a real (at the time) supermarket chain for the location. They could have made up a fake supermarket chain or even just used a generic store, but the fact that it's actually a Somerfields is hilarious to me.
They actually initially were going to use a fake supermarket name for the movie and would’ve had it be called Somerisle as a reference to Wickerman but something caused them to use Summerfield instead
It’s nice to see Queen Elizabeth and King Viserys fighting side by side against the forces of James Bond

I love the way the butcher counter had bullet resistant glass, never had that when I worked in Somerfields.
i love the yarp its just so plainly obvious, no misinterpreting that answer, no matter how"special" the Gof guys character is.
And ties to Michael obviously not just following Skinner's orders, BUT he wants payback on Nick from earlier in the movie.
@@BryonYoungblood And you have to appreciate how Nick takes a beat to make sure a beat down is what *Michael* wants, and that he isn't being led into it by Skinner. It's probably just so the audience can enjoy watching this highly-trained officer initiating a bare-knuckle fight with this big guy with an intellectual disability without feeling guilty about it, since both consented to it.

@@rachelfox8108 gotta also consider that in real life, people that show his kind of mental disability are, next to other races, more susceptible to police brutality simply because they're impaired and don't understand what they're doing is wrong OR are not violent to begin with and are treated like garbage. So for him to ask before beating him up is very nice in my opinion as well. 🙂

There is one, the last film of the Cornetto trilogy: The World's End. It's crappy compared to this one though, imo.

This one scene may just be the most quotable segment of the film. The lines aren't as great as some of the others, but there are just so many.
"Intentionally unwatchable" is simultaneously the best possible spoof of modern action flicks _and_ exactly as nausea-inducing as modern action flicks.
fun fact Simon's stunt double broke their collar bone on the first day of shooting this scene so Simon had to do his own stunts!
That last bit is the best.

@@Privatepain1234 Standard condition 3 readiness in compliance with standard European police procedure. These aren't soldiers on a battle field, they're cops in a mall. They aren't going to chamber a round until they have a positive bead on a resisting target. They need to give the suspects a chance to surrender in any case, and there are few arguments for surrender more persuasive than the sound of a round being chambered.

In the final episode of the show, Simon's character is yelling at another to slow down in his golf cart and Nick's character yells "have you seen him tokyo drift in that, he's off the chain", which I immediately recognized as a callback to this line. I love Edgar Wright callbacks
