I think compulsory voting is a good idea, you could always spoil your paper if you don't want any candidate

This should be broadcast soon on Ch4 or even the BBC if they dare show it. Great to see some common sense and good fun back into politics anyway.

The best thing we can do in 2024 is vote Labour.
Without question, Labour must be forced to introduce PR.
PR will likely reflect the majority's wishes rather than the very few.

Alistair. Big fan of the RIP. But please tell me you are not serious about making voting compulsory? That's not democracy!! Maybe you could discuss it with Rory on the RIP, I'd like to hear your rationale.

Compulsory voting includes option to spoil the ballot.
It at least ensures result is representative of the population, not just those available/motivated to vote.

Rory is hugely in favour of compulsory voting and has said so on the podcast numerous times.

@@Stotteh yes, so they both are in favour. But I haven't heard the case for it and am intrigued to hear the arguments they'd put forward. I do not agree, because the way I see it is that if there is no one worth voting for, don't vote. It's your right to chose not to vote and forcing people to is not democracy as I see it. As far as turning up just to spoil the ballet paper goes, what a waste of time that is.

@@vincentmcdermott3412I’ve always encouraged everyone I know to vote, regardless of if they consider none of the mainstream candidates worthy of a vote. I’ve spoilt my paper or voted for the most ridiculous candidate on the voting form in past elections. Little as it is, it’s the only legitimate, countable protest that can be made by the average law abiding citizen.
