I have always been interested in Politics. I am retired now, but wish i had been able to access opportunities to get into politics when I was young. In the end i spent 20 years on a small Scottish towns Community Council. I hope i made a difference there while bringing up my family, working and living a full life.

George Osborne and Austerity - oh dear. His reasons for..... He still doesn't realise the damage. Doctors and nurses pay freeze, public libraries closures, and so on and on and on.

Here in the US one has to be wealth ....or a loyal Party Apparatchik. My Congressman was a Pelosi staffer with no ties to the District, but loads of Democratic money to install him. Carpetbagger!!

Problem is, especially for Young people, the whole politics movement is too old fashioned, too fuddy duddy, totally disconnected to youth never mind older people. The commons doesn't fit modern Britain. Even at the council level, the people are old fashioned, most of councillors over 55. Politics has lost so many kids by not understanding social media or embracing the future. The voting system of first past the post is bs. The lack of pr is damaging. Team Vs team politics is ridiculous.

That's exactly how we felt in the 60s. Except that we didn't had the toxic effects of social media, that you seem to think is so great.

Time is right for PR voting.
      More discussion needed urgently.

And the point is that this will only change if someone who wants to make that change goes in to that outdated form of politics to make it new, because the old won’t change it

@@TrevorBarre I never said social media is so great, but it is the primary way that kids communicate with each other and how they entertain themselves. The reality is they're not watching the News, they're not even listening to what some middle aged men are banging on about on RUclips even like Alistair and Rory here. Nope, they're on TikTok, insta and others listening to what other younger people are saying. And most of what they're getting is catastrophe after catastrophe.

But what can I do? Well if you are so upset with all the similar problems that every previous generation (there has never, ever been a better time to live in the UK) have had then get involved in politics and educate yourself to use your democratic vote. It's not easy. It's very hard work and mostly boring - thats why hardly anyone can be bothered.
This sounded like a party politic broadcast to young people to join the labour party.
They did Alastair, in droves - when the marxist lunatic and potentially the most damaging PM the UK could ever have became leader of your party.
