Good to know that the game still looks amazing on the consoles.
Quick question that’s driving me crazy (if you don’t mind answering).
I have a Sony 55A80J, and I like it a lot, but I feel there’s always something a little off about it, and I can’t quite get the “best settings.” I have a PS5, and I sometimes feel the games are ever so slightly washed out (just a little, nothing too crazy, but enough for me to notice). The two things I keep going back and forth about in my head are gamma and VRR. The default value for gamma on the TV in HDR on the PS5 is 0 (2.2). Should it be different (2.4)? Lastly, I’ve heard mixed opinions about VRR and black level raise. Is this possible even with an HDMI 2.1 port like the one I’m using on the A80J?
When I play Horizon Forbidden West, I actually have the shadows setting on -4, as I feel it really makes the daytime scenes look amazing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! If I’m crazy, that’s fine too. I just want to hear it from you (or anyone else who feels like commenting)! Thanks again for all that you post for us.

I remember seeing in HDTVTest videos that Sony OLED TVs can have a slightly brighter black level than reference. OLED TVs generally have a problem with "coming out of black", and all the manufacturers try to solve it in different ways. LG generally crush the deepest black slightly, whereas Sony brighten them slightly. Only Panasonic render the lowest black levels perfectly, which is why they tend to win TV of the year awards. Unfortunately their TVs also cost a lot, so that's why most mortals will have to make do with slightly imperfect LG or Sony TVs. I don't have a Sony TV, but from your description shadow -4 might be making your TV render the black level more like how LG does it, and maybe that is very suitable for many games. I also can't stand it when the image is washed out.

I have been using sony tvs for 20 years. I'm not however on a hdmi 2.1 yet as my A8H is incredible still and see no need to upgrade. But since the implementation of HDR there are settings that must be enabled for best picture imo. 1st be sure the black setting in ps5 hdr calibration is set to 0 and have peak luminance at high and advanced contrast at high its just how there hdr algorithm works(this will give u maximum peak brightness for HDR specular highlights deepest blacks against that beautiful OLED in Infinite contrast). Than adjust all other settings to your liking from there. Only for HDR. Next instead of gamma adjust try using different presets of black level as it can give or take away shadow detail as u please. From there adjust your color to what your eyes like 👍. I lock mine in as bt. 2020 as well even though most HDR signals will already use this by default. But I don't want any picture change as some may not. There are some color wheel adjustments u can do as well but can be a very precise adjustment and really have to study the picture to pull those off....but will have huge color benefits if u take the time. Just a what I've learned over the years as a PQ 1st person. Give it try ✌

It depresses me how needlessly overcomplicated setting up HDR is for games.
When I watch a movie on my LG B9 then it just plays with HDR correctly and as intended because I am already using the correct Cinema preset for my 4K UHD Blu-ray player. Some movies use Dolby Vision but again that is automatically used where available. Simple. Straight forward. User-friendly.
On consoles, I never know if what I see is how it is meant to look because we have a system HDR calibration option that most games appear to IGNORE!!! Why for goodness' sakes? I'd wager that most people playing games on HDR TVs will be playing the game with the incorrect settings because their is no consistency and no standard for HDR for games, despite HGIG and system level HDR calibration.
It's a mess in my opinion and the need for you to cover HDR on a game by game basis just highlights this. Your videos really should not be necessary except to show people how good a game looks with HDR.

@@GamingTech-RUclips yes of course oled has more dimming zones but lacks actual led lights that make hdr look more realistic and impactful! It's just common sense, step out of the oled bandwagon and everything these so called experts tell you on RUclips and you will see what I mean..

My dude - solid as always.
Are you finding it hard to see any visual differences/discrepancies on PS5’s “graphics mode?”
It looks, to my naked eye, practically indistinguishable from the performance mode’s resolution. Maybe some textures or lighting elements here and there?
performance mode is just much smoother and looks practically identical to graphics, so why not go performance all the way?
I also am not experiencing the “blur bug” everyone is bitching about on Reddit. Maybe because we’re on LgOLED?

Thanks. So far the PS5 graphic modes are looking very similar to me. Just the 30fps you can see clearly. Compared to PC with 1440p or 4K the PS4 version looks blurry but ok.

Why didn't you mention about low resolution on PS5 in the performance mode? The game is blurry as F. Waste of money.

@refixx He hasn't made a video about performance yet. Why would he bring it up?
It's going to be patched anyway. Already confirmed by the devs via Twitter. It's a bug.

Show me a consumer TV with a max peak brightness of around 6000nits. OLED is the far better technology until MICRO LED arrives in more TV's.

If u don't care about accuracy the a and b series can go up to 3000 nots even higher on the 8k models very very good blacks levels..there's a reason why mini led is still sony and samsung flagship tvs..Am sure they know why

No and I made a side by side comparison on this channel. My G2 shows more details in specular highlights than my QN95B. The QN95B is not even supporting HGiG and it is Tone Mapping all the time. It's a good TV but not better then a OLED IMO.

@@GamingTech-RUclips bro u need to stop with the test equipment! They don't have eyes!👁.if you want to squeeze everything your tv can handle your gonna need to throw accuracy out the window and start calibrating with your eyes..I gararantee you if you if you sett the qn95b with contrast enhancer on high then adjust the brightness with the shadow detail slider along the the ps5 hdr slider it will blow your oled out the water in terms of hdr impact! And get of game mode if you want the best picture on both sets! Unless your a hard-core person that plays call of duty of fortnite and prioritize input lag over picture quality then go ahead! I buy these tvs to get the best picture quality possible 👌
