Yes the issue was that in the previous two accidents the pilots were basically looking through their manuals since they didn't actually know how to fix the issue. Also they had the throttles set at too high a setting and that ensured they wouldn't recover even after flipping the switches! But ultimately the fault rests with Boeing alone!
There is no switch to disconnect a system that Boeing did not tell anyone was added, BUT if the MCAS starts running the electric trim to the horizontal stabilizer it should be treated as a standard "runaway trim" condition. Standard procedure (an immediate-action memory item) is to engage the two "Trim Disconnect" switches which are at 2:34 - look at the bottom of the screen at the base of the throttles... see the 3 red squares (which are the fire annunciators and extinguisher handles) that say "1" "APU" and "2"? The two TRIM DISC switches are just above the "2" at the base of the flap lever.
The way the new engines balance the plane, turning off MCAS could lead to a potential stall. That's why they added it to begin with and why it's so powerful.
@@magellanmax that's exactly what the pilots did on that last plane that crashed they switched off the MCAS first and then turned it back on and that sealed their fate.
Am catching this exact route in few days time and this V comes in my recommendation but this max airplanes aren't the most popular. Here's to a safe flight to all air travelers.
does this MAX have a different computer than the ones that crashed - it's getting confusing at this point. None have crashed in the US, none in Europe....what's going on here???
John Crazy African pilots probably don’t get very robust training. That’s the unfortunate and politically incorrect answer that everyone is dancing around, and why there have been no incidents in the US
Sure, any autopilot can kill if the pilots are not paying attention, are slow to act when immediate action is required (eg disconnect) and do not thoroughly understand it and their plane as well as the circumstances that can lead to "dangerous" interactions of autopilot settings, terrain, and other external conditions. Being a pilot takes good judgement , a watchful skeptical eye, thoughtfulness, study and reading, as well of course continuing professional development and discourse.
Don't know, but by the looks of it, it may have been custom-made for his ears. Kind of cool, but I don't think I'd want to stick an earbud-type device into my ears with the typical crappy sound of most ATC & airplane transmissions blasting straight into my brain LOL.
Did you see MCAS in action spinning that wheel. Pretty crazy the two cutouts are right in the middle, turn down and correct trim manually via the wheel right away. I bet the Ethiopian pilots flipped the button down and forgot to adjust trim via wheel.
Neither have a walkaround... Icelandair failed due to the weather on the day we were supposed to film the walk around..... and sadly our 3rd MAX will not have a walk around either, the camera for this broke 60 seconds before we were due to film the walkaround. It looks the MAX Gods don't want us to film a walkaround just yet.... but we will get to it sometime :)
@@justplanes I was waiting for the Icelandair Max to see if it had a walkaround but no big deal, I will get one of them soon. I have to finish the five I haven't finished yet :)
A thing to notice is the “profile” display as the aircraft nav plot shown, which helps with tracking/altitude, increasing the safety factor. If that type of display were available back then to flights AA 966 and Air Inter flight 148, those people would be alive today.
a lot of negative comments. If you bother with all the confusion going on with the MAX, you will never fly on another aircraft again Accidents can happen on both ocean, air and land.Approximately 1,000,000 people died each year from car accident.
Well, I'll never fly on Boeing again, at least. One AoA sensor at a time, flip flopping between flights?! A disagree light that costs extra?! No training or warning for a system that supersedes autopilot?! How could they think this was a good idea?
JustPlanes Some former Naval Aviators are now airline pilots. Many of them wear their favorite squadron(s) “baseball cap”, also carrying squadron decals on their crew carryons. I’ve met some of them wearing SR-71 decals (U.S. Air Force), A-10 Warthogs, F-4S (U.S.M.C.), “Whiskey” Cobras (Helo Attack pilots-Marines), OV-1 (Mohawk-U.S. Army), and so on. I’ve met a British Airways 747 pilot that gave me his business card (photographer, etc as a side business) former Lighting, Red Arrows pilot. As far as I know, all El Al airline pilots are former Israeli Air Force pilots.
Michael Pare - The defect has been fixed and the 737 Max will soon be flying again. It should be as safe as the 737 NG, which has a stellar safety record, so there is no reason the Max should not be built for many years.
be very careful- the max is very dangerous. Lion has crashed and an Ethiopian also has crashed so I hope you know how to turn off the bad stuff from Boeing.
These guys aren’t even pilots anymore, are computer operators..... none of the old days piloting skills are present..... being a pilot of an airplane like this new one isn’t a matter of anything special anymore....! No sweat, no hand work.... just finger tips..... stop acting like pilots cause you guys just have the name but not the old days skills
at 4:50, that streaky screen can be cleaned with a 50/50 alcohol/water solution.
It seems a really nice and modern aircraft from inside. Too bad the MCAS problem cast a shadow on all of that...
What a stunning glass cockpit, you have to love the simplicity of Boeing cockpits.
Great video.
??? Airbus cockpits are waaay more simple. Look at the overhead panel for example.
WOW absolutely stunning!
audibly tells you which runway your taking off from....nice.
frontcentermusician that's called Runway awareness advisory system 😉✌️
This aircraft has been sitting in the ground for a few weeks!!
So true! They just should keep it flying until all of them crash
Boeing has delivered very user friendly instrument displays that are very impressive.
But a death transporter
Nice! ...Be ready with a hand near the stab trim cutout switches, just in case.
And immediately correct the trim by moving wheel until upset stops. Just flipping switch is not enough.
Probably easier said than done when nose diving to the ground with your face in the controls...

What a beautiful airplane and you guys made it look easy!
Such great features inside the cockpit!
great job. good pilots. I would have like to see Vreef speed. loved it
The only way to achieve vreef speed is to covfefe the aircraft.
wow 40 in Reykjavik. never been to iceland when so sunny like that
he said 14 degrees

I flew (as a passenger) on a 737max from amsterdam to keflavik. Great plane!
In retrospect....
😂
but dooms day just happened
What was that sound at 2:39? It sounded like a bird hit the aircraft.
That's the stab trim doing it thing. If you look close you can see the two wheels either side of the centre pedestal moving.
One of the best display descriptions I've seen!
I just clicked on this video to see if the MCAS activated itself on takeoff.
9:30 Get naked and get beer! You got that right! :-D
Beautiful aircraft and beautiful country... What can we ask more ?
Where are the switches to disable MCAS?
Honestly even if there were off buttons I don’t think that they could turn off MCAS.

On the throttle quadrants
The STAB TRIM CUTOUT switches on the throttle quadrant ;)
Fantastic Video JustPlanes Team! Liked
Thank you very much!! Glad you enjoyed it.

switch the mcas off
And then it will switch itself back on...happy flights.

Love the MAX!

Icelandair has been such a wonderful airline to work with! Our 1st ICE film 15 years ago ruclips.net/video/ij0PqJu6SiU/видео.html

super video and shows how good this airplane works!:) Hope the Max will be a success ....
the sarcasm is strong in this one
Did you pray before take-off?
ill be flying the airplane to Kevlac , or will it be the plane flying the plane to Kevlac if it doesnt choose to have a dirt nap
No AoA indicator on any screen?
It's optional, but after the MCAS-Gate I hope it'll be a standard feature ;)
How safe is the existing 737-800?
Very safe, absolutely no reason to be worried.
Those are very safe, the max 8 idk
Guys honestly so glad to see another icelandair movie, right before my birthday! tomorrow! on the 22th could not be more happy! thx haha
Happy Birthday Stefan and glad the timing is right :) Enjoy your day tomorrow!
So Captain..what's the CAP on your head for? Beautiful landing in Iceland
What system was moving those trim wheels at the 2:37 mark?
the electric trim switches on the captains yoke. You can see him use his left thumb to push the switches.
GNX157 the pilot did it with his yoke. Look at his left thumb when the trim wheel starts turning :)
GNX157 take a look at the captain’s left hand, he is trimming it down manually
Appears the Captain flying used the electric trim switch on his left yoke, see his thumb movement.
Thanks for the upload ! Was that the sound of the nose wheel retracting at 2:39 ?
That is exactly what you're hearing.
Awesome!!, great job. I wanna be like you.
last comment of the captain very appropriated to Iceland lol
Killer machine😬
Thumbs up if you just watched this video for the sole purpose of making MCAS comments.
He said reversers normal before the captain pulled them up. So that's fun.
Good, Very good.
Worries about these max aircraft

With that cap He seems like a mechanic not a captain.
Many pilots wear caps once the cockpit door is closed.. helps them with the sun... then when they get out they take them off...

it was pretty scary to watch that takeoff xdd
Glad you made it out alive. That thing is a flying coffin 😱
Can't believe Boeing dropped the ball...
There not rely flying this it's a mock up in their garage all thru their ps 4 amazing what you can do with sticky back tape and empty yogurt cartons
dont wanna be a di*k here, but I did not know that it was allowed for pilots to be so casual and put on a cap in the cockpit
Only on the flight deck if the visor on the cap offers better eye/sight protection. Any other time they're required to wear the official hats.
DUD !!!
They grounded them now but if not and you are going to travel with one of them don't forget take a " priest " with you on the board !!
