Two years ago I decided to come live in south America and it definitely cured my Loneliness the only problem now is I'm forced to go back home in two weeks. Even though I have a beautiful home in the USA I'm scared t death to go back home and experience loneliness again. South America is so different people are more social. I realized that in south America people don't need a lot to make them happy. I'm probably going to sell my house and retire in south America in the next year or two. Might sound corny but let me say that we are born into this world naked and when our time passes, we don't take our clothes or hairdos with us. There is nothing to be embarrassed about if somebody has our nude photos or videos. It is not the end of the world, nobody cares, people will move on with their own challenges and any incident (if it ever happens) will be just a story. What truly matters is how we respond to it and gather the strength to become a stronger person and never give in to these fraudsters and never let them dictate our lives. People with enough sense will truly understand our situation and will find inspiration in our resilience.

    Isn't it better to campaign against youngsters showing their bare parts to strangers on the internet?

    • @alanharper23
      @alanharper23 5 месяцев назад +16

      Well that's part of it too. Being aware that once they send something online, they can never get it back. It's all about educating them of the risks and the real dangers so they can better protect themselves, but the ultimate catch-all is knowing that they have support around them should something ever happen. That way, victims don't feel so alone. The sextortion itself is a source of great stress, but the helplessness of feeling alone and unable to tell anyone is why they consider taking their own life.

    How can a young adult think that having nudes sent to friends is that bad? What kind of ideas did all of the boys who took their life have about sexuality? I think this report is missing a point not talking about conservative upbringing and taboos around sex. I simply cannot imagine what kind of a family you have to grow up in where you'd rather take your life than tell your parents that you sent nudes and are in trouble. That's not normal

      Actually, it is quite understandable. Especially in teenage years, it is not unusual for youngsters to try and sort the problem themselves, even when they know they need help. Also, given the evil nature of these criminals, it is possible they threatened to harm the families, too. We can't presume to understand all this young man, and others like him, went through or what we would do under the same circumstances. We can only know that these children were viciously preyed upon, harassed, and worn down. It's a terrible, terrible tragedy!
      All parents can do is their utmost to raise children who are aware, wise, and able to discern, in advance, the consequence of their actions. You think sending nude pictures to friends is safe? I disagree. Everyone wants and deserves some level of privacy, and when you expose yourself on a phone or video and press 'send', you place that privacy, and possibly your life, in the hands of others and at the whim of their values which, you may find, do not align with yours. Warning children about this, and teaching them to apply caution, wisdom, and integrity in their sexual choices is not conservatism or a taboo; it's good, plain, common sense!

I mean he even told the scammer that he would kill himself! it is obvious that he was desperate, he must have cursed at the scammer a thousand times before pleading with him... he must have cried, felt sadder than ever before... he was just 17... young ppl (and not so young) overreact sometimes... All parents are ultimately the ones who have to help the child pick up the pieces after a mistake so they must monitor what the kids do on the devices. They must know who kids talk to and the content of chats. No one must be allowed to communicate with children without the parents' consent.
    This should grow into some form of counsel and discussion through adulthood too. Kids need sound counsel from experienced people.

    I think with the rise of AI generated images, this issue should be a TOP priority for parents and authorities. There are strong chances they will be affected by these types of fraud and they must know how to deal with it and that it isn't worth losing your life over it.

    This recently happened to me, in fact as I write it happened this day. I know why I didn't care when they threatened to expose the pictures. Becouse lost of my friends sext so I didn't worry about their judgment. If my employers saw it, I don't really care becouse sexting is not exactly taboo in modern culture I would say, but in fact quite common at least where I'm from in the UK. If my parents saw it, well they are from generation X and had the sort of upbringing in the UK were sexting I believe would be considered a taboo from their culture and a shameful act. Yet I could live with their judgment becouse I know they love me no matter what, even if they judge me a degenerate not that I think sexting is a degenerate act only I believe they would. And I suppose that's all there is to worry about, am I missing something? I don't know why someone would kill themselves over sexting other than extreme embarrassment and fear of shame and judgment from those around them they care most about, so rather than face it they end their life.
    I wont deny, realising that I had sent nudes some creep online instead of a real girl that was interested was embarrassing, but I suppose a big help for my lack of care was my experience in going to the hospital. I had a diabetic attack and discovered I have diabetes type 1. In there I had to piss in a box they gave me, be showered by another man and even wet myself as a 23 year old man because I was unable to walk to the toilet at the time. So embarrassing and it rid me of my dignity, perhaps that was more of a good thing, perhaps if I had not had that experience I would not be numb to embarrassing situations. I puked up on the bus to collage more than once in front of everyone and well that helped in its own way to help me grow numb to embarrassment.
    The point I'm making is that in order to prevent suicide due to sexting is to normalise sexting. Which at least around where I live or at the very least in my social circle of men, it is normal. For kids though yeah its different, solution: parents, upon realising the risk of sexting, console your children or child, immediately/asap go to them and tell them that if they ever do sexting, that you will still love them and wont hate them. If you've been or become a victim of sexting, remember that others have gone through it as well, you are not alone and don't give in to fear, it happened, get over it and move on. It is very rare I believe that people will care after a month that you did sexting, vast majority of the time people forget and move on. Soo don't fear judgment, embrace it, accept it, and master it. And to anyone who is not a victim, keep all this in mind as well as this: always be ready to accept the risks and consequences of sexting when you send nudes to a stranger who may or may not be whom they claim to be.
