The Vanquish VS4-10 Phoenix Portal wins truck of the year for 2021 & 2022! It's hard to beat the features that this rig comes with right out of the box! Thanks AMain Hobbies for shipping mine to me with your lightning fast shipping!
I'm happy they finally released a plastic axle housing. I know a lot of people like aluminum, and wish they put more metal on this truck, but I am confident the metal is where is really matters in terms of durability. The plastic axle housings will always slide over rocks better than aluminum.
One nice feature of the selectable transmission is you can run it in front-wheel-drive with 33% overdrive for the sections between technical sections at a surprisingly fast pace (compared to running in regular 4WD all the time).
Santa better drop on off here, or Rudolph is getting smoked!!!! This is a cool rig, with some neat innovations. Whoever painted your rig Bret did a killer job!!!🤘🤘🤘
Its a brilliant truck, but for 499 I would like to have seen a litle bit more metal. Ive already ordered aluminium bearing plates, standoffs, a motor plate and incision drive shafts which has set me back another $140 . I wiill also get the machined gear upgrade when it is released. I love Vanquish aluminium axles and would buy machined housings if Vanquish were ever to relase them ... Great vid and a very nice paint job. Thx
I'd rather have plastic. It has aluminum in all the right places to keep it reliable. Aluminum isn't always good. The price is low for what you get and such a great performing machine.
That is like the only thing I really look for in any crawler, is how many options the transmission has lol, thats just me I like a very optional drivetrain!
i really like the transmission options in this model, but it is kind of odd knowing mr vanquishes outlook in the past on plastic axles not being scale. I am glad they changed the troublesome incision shocks
People want to 'complain' that Vanquish kits are "overpriced". Here's the thing - take almost any other crawler kit (Axial SCX10.2, SSD Trail King Pro, RC4WD TF2, etc), and upgrade them with parts equivalent to those included the the Vanquish kits, and you'll end up paying just as much (and, possibly, more)...plus, you'll have to individually order all those upgrades. Vanquish, on the other hand, provides ALL the upgrade-like parts in the kit - machined axle housings (except with the Phoenix), machined shock towers (again, except in the Phoenix), better axle housing design, forward/low-mount transmission (their VFD, or VFD-Twin in the Phoenix), beefier SS links, wheels (even if they are plastic), tires, bodies, etc. Comparing the Phoenix to other Vanquish kits, the entire reason the Phoenix is $250-300 less is due to the axle housings being plastic...and, even then, to the kit is still better...way better...than those from other brands. No, I'm not "pro Vanquish" (this is my first Vanquish kit), nor am I "anti" any other brand (including RC4WD, even though their quality tends to be considerably lower...but, they DO have some really good stuff, too). I am just looking at it from a realistic point, comparing the dollar-for-dollar value, and doing so with a completely unbiased perspective.
the thing that stopped me from buying vanquish is the cost vs performance. My cheap low quality trx4 sport with some cheap minor mods performs better then any vanquish kit out there. Now i can justify the money ill probably buy one to add to the collection!
@@mifo2000 It's a different animal though. Vanquish is about the scale although it's pretty capable. The weight that carries the scale is also what topples it over.
@@Art-zs6sl got to disagree.. vanquish are the most capable behind the trx 4. And you only get lexan bodys in their kits. People add the weight/scale accessories after they build the kit.
@Mayo Monkey What do u think is better? Ive driven just about every rtr and kit when going out with friends who own them, drivven the SSD, RCWD, red cat and the vanquish ultimate. The trx climbs and performs better, the only rtr to do a better job was the Capra. It was also the amain and other youtube videos voting it the number 1 crawler that made me buy on for myself
@@singhda03 I can recommend the shock collars for Gmade RSD shocks (available as spare parts) - they are made from aluminium and thread straight onto the S8E shock bodies. Apparently Vanquish will offer aluminium shock collars as an upgrade part too in future.
Awesome review! I prefer to have a kit to build over RTR and have been looking around for a nice crawler kit. This may have to be the one I go for. Thanks & Happy Holidays!
You should do another scx24 upgrade video focused on sheer performance (this time with end build running footage!) So many awesome scx24 parts out there now, the new 1.0 hyrax are ridiculous even compared my patagonias they just GRIP
I want one so so bad why cant i find it. Drives me crazy to see it on ebay for 800$$$. It did say in stock the 20th but last time i put a truck on back order i ended up buying it but then the second truck showed up. Lol wife wasnt happy i was though
I've got 4 Vanquish rigs, I built this one and sold it immediately. They took all the Vanquish out of it. Then put a fiddley trans in it. It's a hi CG heavy body. It was a swing and a miss for me. I got my money back, I'll stick to comping my pro.
The first batch sold out within a couple of weeks... second lot is on the way. I managed to get one shipped to Australia so you must have missed it... But they were widely available. Cheers 👍
I don't care what anyone says I think this stuff is a little overpriced especially for being all plastic and really no aluminum it really shouldn't cost much more than a Traxxas trx4 those have it locking and unlocking differentials this has dig and overdrive I don't see how it cost so much more to produce the same amount of functions although they are different functions but it shouldn't cause much more they have the same amount of functions but I do think the coolest thing about it is if you adjust your endpoints correctly you can get a two-wheel drive setting which is pretty cool
I used to say Vanquish is way over priced. I still can't say anything about their other trucks since I haven't had one, but I bought this kit and can see why a lot of people do pay the money for these things. Ive built 11 enduro kits and a few scx10ii kits, gmade kit, trx4 kit...now I see how even the plastic with a vanquish is so much better quality. The quality of the build alone is just, amazing. Do I still believe it's worth 500 bucks for this kit? Ahh, I'd say 400 tops is where I see it. It's a great kit and I love it don't get me wrong, but it requires 3 servos. Steering, 2 speed and dig. I'm using 400 bucks worth of servos on this thing. Kinda crazy lol. My go to kit will still be the Enduro Kit 2 for $249.
For me, it's like having a never ending series of "I can crawl that" moments where you see a challenge and set to conquer it, often trying over and over. Give it a try if you get the opportunity. -Brett

I can certainly see a use for the rear dig freewheel position: for sucking down the front end on climbs
I bought it for my birthday for $400, which means the price is a steal 🎉
Cool truck! And that paint job... love it!

Great review as always from Brett. The truck looks awesome!

None of the Vanquish vehicle (ie. VS4-10 variants) are available as RTRs...they are ALL kits.
IRL off-road guys would spend tens of thousands of dollars for features like this for their crawler rigs.....holy balls.
