Recovering A Jeep In Nasty TEXAS MUD

- Well, a buddy from work called me to see if i could come help pull him out.. It had just rained really hard for a few hours, so i figured it was going to be a muddy mess. I hopped in the Jeep Wrangler and Cassie and the Kids took the Jeep Gladiator. The rest is history!
This was my first recovery since we moved down here to Texas...
The mud is no joke, its very soft, and everywhere! I would have loved to pull him with a strap the whole way, but there was not a good solid point on his vehicle that i felt safe really yanking on. Plus, with the nasty mud, there wouldnt be much control of the tow (both me and the towed jeep). Winching was the best and safest option, it just takes alot longer. We got him out and they were back on their way to go dove hunting!

Thanks for watching!
Remember... Mudding can be fun in your Jeep, but its very easy to get stuck, so make sure your prepared! Авто/Мото
That dog was asking for help I hope you took it somewhere safe
This is like watching Matt's Off-road recovery channel!.. Awesome Video
I was just thinking that myself
I love Matt’s channel.
Bet the farmer that uses that road is gonna be pissed !
“Stop recording me with my shirt off”... I feel ya on that one
"What did we learn?" We learned that it really helps to have a friend with TWO jeeps!
Just for the record, that Grand Cherokee is a Laredo trim. The Laredo trim is only a very basic 4WD system. It has no low range and consists of a series of open diffs. The good 4WD system with low range and the rear E-LSD can be had on the Limited trims and above only.
It's also not trail rated.
Wolf Cross Adventures that too. Lol
One day Jeep is going to have an epiphany and re-release the XJ, and we'll have another 17 years of pure Jeeping bliss.
KL is going to get the same nostalgia as the XJ. People don’t remember how much crap the XJ took first 10 years until people start to really modify them when the working class was able to afford them.
See the release of the Wagoneer... Ya... I dont trust them with the precious XJ remodel lmao.
@@kjhaglfjhgfasd Good point. lol. But we can always hope!
Jeep doesn't exist any more... Its ran by Fiat cough, actually Stellantis. Last of the AMC powered jeeps was in 2010 with the power tech 4.7 V8 and the 3.7 V6 (their first and last v6 ever produced). They are owned by an Italian company. Before that Benz which is why the WK2 has mercedes benz stamped all over it. The benze logo is stamped under the dash and on the differentials if you get and chance go look. The Durango, Challenger, Grand Cherokee WK2, and Charger are all based of Mercedes platforms. Jeep has been dead for a while only in namesake does it exist and barely even that...
That epiphany will be over shadowed by the fact that they will make it super luxury, it will cost a small fortune, and it will be extremely unreliable.
Welcome to Texas, that clay is notorious for trapping 4x4s, also its
On the sides of many highways here, webb and la salle counties both have alot of that sticky messy clay.. hard as a rock when its dry too. Worked ranches for 20 years, best thing to do, leave the truck at the barn and work out of a polaris, or mule.
Thanks for making me RUclips famous lol!!!
Who are you?
🤣
MudRunner2005 the guy in the Jeep at the very end lol
@@Bmbwic You have a nice Jeep, it's gotta grow up a little though, don't you think?
Stephen Boyd me and it lol. I was like a kid at a candy store lol. Soon though it’ll be able to hang with the big boys lol
Did you buy a truck?
That's a true friend right there when you drive 40min to pull a buddy out..👍👍👍👍👍
Great video, that looks like a all wheel drive rather than a four-wheel-drive, the grand Cherokee Trailhawk is a true four-wheel-drive. I really enjoyed seeing the whole family out together that's what life's all about.
Me, my wife and kids, and some guys from our Jeep/4x4 club were out last winter. I buried my Jeep, turned into a very technical 3 hour recovery process. Great time though, after it was done I bought drinks at a middle of nowhere bar where we had dinner. It was fun!
Some of the best days are when you get to help someone out.
Hey Ben. We’re stuck in the mud 40 minutes away.
I’m on my way.
That’s a great friend. 🤟
I used to get those calls all the time.
That was a great video Ben! I love that the family was able to get out and help someone in need. You have such a beautiful family!
Even these simple videos are awesome! Keep them coming!
Great job and as for as the dog he looks like he is eating good and country does hardly ever get lost. The kids look like they had a great time
They will remember for the rest of their life . Great video.🙏🏻
Jk g&g"it wasn't possible to hook up a tow rope to a Jeep like this"
Matt's off road recovery -"hold my beer"
He also has insurance for towing lol.
instaBlaster
You should do a video of how you clean up all that mud!😂
Best childhood memories always include off roading or racing. Lucky girls!!!
Great recovery been! Always fun to watch your channel. Even if it’s you playing in the mud doing a recovery.
They do make one it’s the Zeon platinum
Cool video and what a beautiful family. God bless you guys!
Awesome vid... welcome to Texas mud!
Glad you could help your buddy 👍🏻
Pro tip: on a muddy, sloped road, you'll always slide into the ditch if you try to pull someone in reverse. You have no control of the direction your vehicle goes if the front is attached to the vehicle you're pulling. If you turn around and pull with the rear, you'll have much better control and won't need to winch.
Wow! Good friend ben to the rescue!
Man that mud looks really nasty!!! That was a good idea to bring both Jeeps!
A friend is great to have when dirt turns 😁 to mud that too deep to get out 😂. Great Job & Deed Also...!
Hell yea man love ur videos!!
Sorry I missed you reply. It was a Grand Cherokee Trailhawk (limited?). $78k worth of dissatisfaction. I am probably jaded though, Having fully built for Desert running, rock crawling, jumping, and over landing vehicles.
Jeeps I have built since mid-seventies... ‘55 CJ-5. ,’64 CJ-6 (very rare) ‘72 CJ-5, ‘78 CJ8, ‘79 CJ-7, ‘89, ‘ 90, and ,92- Wranglers, 84 Cherokee . Non -Jeep’s: 2-‘76 Ramchargers, ‘69, ‘70, and ‘71 Blazers, ‘ 76 and ‘78, ‘82, ‘88, ‘and 96 Broncos, ‘74 Dodge 2500 4-door short-bed, ‘84 Chevy 3500, ‘79 F250, ‘90 F350, not counting the numerous Japanese mini garbage. Lol.
Current project: 1974 M1 deuce and a half- multi (fuel engine)
So I expect a lot from a Jeep that’s supposedly a worthy off-road trail hawk.
Hope you guys brought the dog somewhere safe. Cool video!!
lol, that’s some gnarly mud! Absolute right, worst part of being in mud is the clean up
good team and energy!
Dude, Welcome to the deep south. No hills but plenty mud 😂
Great video!
My JGC has tow hooks front and hitch rear with a shackle. I also have two straps which make all the difference. Great vid. I love driving my JK as well.
Awesome footage
A family adventure helping a buddy out , you guy's are awesome . What happened to tripod the dog ? She was so cute . Take care and be safe .
Awesome video!
Excellent job
1st time here and saw how good you guys are to one another. Sub
Looks hella fun !
That farmer is going to be pissed next time he goes down that road.
Texas mud lol reminds me movie ( My cousin Vinny ) lmbo !
Smile your on RUclips . Always good have friends helping instead wrecker recovery bill .
You’re a good friend Ben.
Cherokees have always been for those who wish they had a CJ or wrangler but couldn’t give the creature comforts.
lol...welcome for S Texas dove season. SE Texas is the same when deer season comes!
If you are worried about the winch, you should get a better one. Warren has gone down hill in reliability. The harbor freight bad lands winch had been awesome for me, I live in south Texas too.
I’ve been away for a while. Texas!? Time to catch on some videos
Video aside dude, props to you and your amazing family. 🤙 Keep it up.
Warn does have winches with electric solenoids for the free spool. mine is 6 years old. it is called the ZEON Platinum.
Love mine.
This is a Jeep family. I like this!
Team work recovery, nice!
Y'all ever thought about joining the RGV Mud and Sand recovery group on Facebook???
Warn xeon platinum - clutch switch is on the remote(electric solenoid)
The dynamic wife & husband team
Your kids are ADORABLE! Shoulda made your buddy wash the Jeeps!
Easy now folks....at least it’s not a Patriot or a Compass
or a renegay
MUD Tires are 70% of the solution & the traction control algorithm that can not be fully turned off is a 20% hindrance.
No recovery hooks but trail rated ????
It's a Grand Cherokee Laredo model. Which is like the most basic model you can get of the GC, hell it might even had 2 wheel drive....lol
Hal its easy to get stuck in mud even with M/T tires and 4x4
fun video guys
Wholesome family fun!
Your comment about overheating the winch reminded me of the Warn 8074 (8274 without freewheel knob) that I had on my Scout II. I abused the hell out of that thing, melted battery cables & smoked the paint off it more than once, but it never once failed me. The funny thing is they have less powerful motors and abysmal gearing when compared to the M-series, but people pay 2 grand for them. Fast unloaded line speed is important to some, I guess! I prefer the torque of my M8000, some of the skidder paths I get my TJ stuck on need every lbf it can give.
Love the JT
Yeah I carry 4 boards. Good job 👍
Dude you a beast Ben
Now it’s miller time 🍻
Never mudded... looks fun
That Texas mud is no joke!
Worst part of wheeling in mud, the clean up.
Cracked windshield on the gladiator?
Fun one. Now I need to come over so you can help me put on the coil packs.
Nice video
Relationship goals man you guys are badass 😎
Great off roading
Cute little kids!!
I own a grand Cherokee overland with the better 4wd and air suspension and does very good off road because I have the right tires. That jeep has highway tires which was it's curse. You seem to talk down on the GC but they're good.... almost took mine as far as I could with my CJ7....
That looks like a rental, New York plates in Texas
Or, they are military buddies with the Jeep registered in NY while working in Texas.
hells ya miller light!!!
warn 10-s platinum has wireless remote and clutch unlock and re-lock from the remote and awesome recovery :D
Love mine.
“Ahh,Don’t film me I have no shirt” watch out RUclips might think this is adult content😂lol🤣 great friends U both r
With the right tires im sure it would have been fine in those conditions but im sure it had the original street treads
Hook each end of a standard tow rope to each lower A-arm, then attach the pull strap to the middle of the tow rope, and pull from there. Will allow a straight pull and distribute the forces through both sides of the rear end.
You should do a detailing video for the two jeeps
the warn zeon winches have electronic clutch control also that winch can go all day at that little capacity but using the winch as a tow rope is hard on it
Lmao “if that trail rated grand Cherokee made it that far...”
Cas please be careful when I first drove with the LSTJ I took a left on 3 wheels
Then you didn't have enough power... Enough power and the rear tires would be spinning through the turn, not up in the air. 😉
Getting Down and Dirty. Hope your friend appreciates what you and your wife did for him.
You should look into getting a J-hook. Just shackle it to a bubba rope and you can hook to suspension or frame parts.
Lol, we do this with open diffs..... But they key to it is very very light rigs
Good job guys. They’re lucky to have friends like you.
What happened to the lost doggie?
Awesome recovery. What are and where did you get those yellow lights for the JT bumper. Those things look awesome
I want more vids like this
I got a compass sort of I got a 6inch lift with 37s on it and I straite axle it i love my compass and it's a 2007
A 6" lift on a Compass with 37's ?
I doubt it.
Warn zeon platinum comes with a wireless remote and that also controls Clutch from remote ;)
Duck season hasn't even started in Texas.Your friend some poachers.
I thought he said duck, apparently dove.
Nice video, good job. Are you still running the Yokohama X-MT’s? If yes what did you think of their performance in that sticky mud? If not, what tires are you running?
Nothing like a good ole mud bath paid for by a friend lol
😂 went to help with no hip waders😂
Holy Crap... Better have been a good Friend, and was willing to Clean you Jeeps ! What a Mess 😳
Great video ma. That jeep was so stuck haha. What fenders are on your red jeep?
Your gladiator is awesome just needs an after market antenna
