The funny thing with Russian accents is that lowering the voice while speaking English isn't for the purpose of humor, when you speak Russian your voice is automatically lower. This can count to a lot of other Slav languages too, that is why a Slavic speaker grown up in a western country can have such a high sounding voice when speaking English (or other western languages). For example: I live in the Netherlands, and I saw this really beautiful blonde girl, from which I assumed she was Dutch, she was speaking to someone on her phone in Dutch. Her voice was so high pitched like you would expect a Dutch girl to sound, cute and loudly. Later on I overheard someone talking fluently and perfectly Russian, it was really beautiful to hear someone pronouncing the language so perfectly, it sounded so smooth and soothing. The person speaking it sounded like a grown-up (let's say somewhere around 25 year old) woman, but she had a significantly deeper pitch than most Dutch woman and it just was so satisfying and relaxing to hear that woman speak Russian, so I looked over to see who the professional speaker would be, only to find out that it was the same blonde girl which I assumed was Dutch, talking with her Russian family member over the phone. I was actually shocked to find out she was Russian XD
What an interesting story! And that is absolutely true! When we speak Russian, we usually lower our voice. It just happens. And it often frightens people from other countries 😄

@@RussianwithaRussian of course! 😊 I studied Russian when I was in college but couldn’t continue because of my health. So as someone who is getting back into it, it feels overwhelming. I think learning a language, especially one where you’re learning a new alphabet too, can be kind of daunting at first. If there’s any advice you have for beginners and how best to stick to a schedule for learning it that would be super helpful. :) I think a lot of it also comes down to is what resources are best to use for studying it? Books, shows or movies in Russian that you would recommend, etc. And how is the best way to learn grammar. Thanks!

That's an interesting comparison.🤔 There are two types of "R" in French. The most popular ("uvular") one is formed in the area of the root of your tongue, while its tip is pressed against your lower teeth. And the second one may sound similar to the Russian one because the tip of the tongue vibrates a little. But still, this sound is smoother and not so "dramatic" as in Russian.😂 I wish you good luck in mastering your Russian accent! 🤗🙌❤️
About 20yrs ago my dad (native Spanish speaker) went to Europe & Russia. For some reason while in Europe, people (locals) kept mistaking his accent as Russian... then would apologize profusely when he'd say he was American, lol. Not real sure why; any Spanish accent is very faint.

Speaking from my experience (i'm an actress and have had to learn a buttload of accents for different auditions, certain roles, etc) the best thing to do is focus on like one person who has the exact accent that you want to be able to imitate. Watch like a thousand of their RUclips videos/ interviews (like if you choose a celebrity) and just copy everything they say, the exact way they say it. Then practice all day speaking those same phrases. For maybe 10 mins, or up to weeks. Depending on what you want to do. But slowly try to incorporate other words/ phrases/ etc, with your newly learned accent. Try to perfect a handful of sentences and then you'll get some muscle memory on the accent and be able to freestyle soon enough. That's what I do lmao. Hope it helps !!
