I have been learning Russian as a hobby for the last 27 months and it's finally starting to come together. The content on this channel is put together and delivered very well with a natural feel. Yes as a native English speaker it's about as unnatural as it gets when first learning... but if you stick with it and give it an honest chance it will come together. 6 cases along with the masculine, feminine, neutral has been the hardest part but I have patience. If I had heard Katya at 17'33" saying "Russian, on the other hand, can seem like a blessing compared to English" (especially "hand" and "blessing") I would have sworn she was Brazilian. This is EXACTLY what the accent and intonation of a Brazilian sound like to me. Both are very nice accents to my ear by the way! I can't say about the Portuguese accent in English though as I'm not familiar with it and have trouble understanding Portuguese from Portugal. Listening to the rest, her accent reminds me of Brazilian English throughout (except for the sounds that don't exist in Portuguese). Thanks for making me aware of that!

0:55 some sounds weren't represented. From consonants there are [ʋ] and [ɣ]. Russians often pronounce [v] like [ʋ], specially in fast speech. And the sound [ɣ] is in few russian words, for example in the word "ага" [ˈaɣə]. And this sound is very widespread in southern dialects of Russian. And there is a full chart of russian vowel sounds: [a], [æ], [ɛ], [e̞], [e], [ɪ], [i], [ɐ], [ə], [ɘ], [ɵ], [ɨ], [ʉ], [ɑ], [ʌ], [o̞], [o], [ʊ], [u].

Interesting. I couldn’t figure out the difference in the “sh” ones because if you are trying too hard while out of conversation, you can easily pronounce “sheep” and “shut” exactly the same. But try using each in an actual sentence without thinking about them and you can see the automatic difference in your mouth structure. Then alternate the sounds between those two structures and it’s actually very noticeable. Cool :)
First you learn Ш, it's hard and short in duration. Then go at Щ, it is softer (just like sheep), but TWICE LONGER in duration, actually twice longer than any other consonant.
I just want to understand people in cs go as a slavic person. Reading what they write is understandable like 50% of the time without knowing the pronunciation rules.
That usage of the "y" sound (boy) in English is as a vowel, *not* a consonant. From her pronunciation, it would be more like that of "y" at the beginning of a word in English (year), which is the consonant usage.

Often, whenever a native Russian speaker says a word with a stressed ‘o’, I tend to hear a very slight ‘a’ sound at the end of the vowel, typically if the word ends with an ‘o’. For example: что generally sounds like ЧТОа to me, but the ‘a’ is very quick and not too noticeable.
@@mrchristian0457 Maybe you can hear it when people stretch these words. When it is common tempo spoken, you will not be able to notice something like that. And, although Russian dialects are almost indistinguishable, people say that some of those things help them understand which region of Russia you came from.
Honestly, it is a kind of oversimplification to say that it is VERY IMPORTANT to have right pronunciation in Russian. If you say ALL soft consonants as hard you definitely be understood by native speakers. Yep, it sounds "foreign", but you will be understood for sure. If you really want to be "native" -- try to say hard consonant with center of your mouth open, but corners of your lips closed and directed down. The examples don‘t sound natural, there are sometimes „hypercorrect“ and actually false. There is no palatalized ж in Russian like in your дрожжи, in часы there is no „a“ sound, езжу is to be pronounced „ежжу“ in Standard Russian etc.

Я убеждён, что только в наших силах развивать и делать язык разнообразнее, и делать это нужно имеющимися инструментами, развивать их в нечто большее, а не уничтожать (ЖЬ, ихние и так далее). А то получается, что возможность сохранить имеем, но в итоге уничтожаем, притворяясь якобы мы научно-нейтральны и мы тут непричём - "оно само так, я просто описываю то что есть" и это якобы не оказывает никакого влияния, якобы не закрепляет то, что вы и описали так, как описали, и такое отношение якобы естественно и единственно правильно (и потом просто эти словарные записи насильно внедряются ученикам и обществу). Мы сами и оказываем влияние на язык, вот в чём дело. Фактически уничтожаем важные детали языка и его развитие в естественном ключе внутри себя, заставляя превозносить иностранщину и унижать естественное как якобы нарушение языка (я был свидетелем как человек написал о слове с ошибкой, требуя исправить "ПОФИКСИ ошибку - такого слова нет" -- это просто абсурд! Значит естественного слова для русского языка нет, а вот ПОФИКСИ есть! Я просто разрываюсь от негодования, когда вспоминаю это, как даже окружающие люди не видят ненормальности в ситуации. Современное отношение к языку меня просто убивает - оно просто разрушительно, когда одни цепляются за словарь, как за ману небесную и жестоко применяют психологическое и социальное насилие против всего внутренне-развивающегося, а другие в ответ на это просто начинают пачками заглатывать иностранщину (и это логично - нужно же язык развивать, а его развивать внутри не дают, и когда берут иностранщину, блюстители языка как будто засыпают и получается логика "Сохраним язык закостеневшим, а что бы он развивался, разрушим его взамен иностранщиной (и бандитщиной)"). Ладно, у меня это больная тема. Люди просто не понимают такого отношения к языку как у меня - всегда впадают в крайности (либо фанатичный языковед, либо пофигист и все они разрушают язык тем, что оба необъяснимо не приемлют естественности развития языка, дискриминируя эти детали, создающиеся обществом внутри языка). I've learned more about Russian in these 27 minutes than I have in weeks of "learning" Russian on Duolingo. Not gonna lie though, the abrupt self advertisements in the beginning made it seem like a scam at first.
So it is: She says it is necessary to stun, and immediately reads voiced versions. I have no idea how it could be. Perhaps they recorded these parts of the video separately? Maybe they wanted to show how not to pronounce? I can't imagine... The authors are extremely inconsistent for a training video (nevertheless, it's better than nothing - it's better to watch a lot of videos from different authors and form a big picture by isolating their mistakes).

Not a constant, but a consonant. In Russian, voiced consonants at the end of words are stunned (лоб - лоП, раз - раС). In this particular case, in the word "Bog", they say not "bok", but "boh" - this is an exception word and it does not fit into what they explain. Бок is side, Бог (боХ) - God.
Okay, since when do we pronounce the word “Bog” (God) as “Bok”? (Чей, простите, бок? :D) Are you kidding me? We pronounce this as “Bokh” (“kh” like sound “h” in the words “have”, “house”, “horse”). This is special word and bad as example.

Honestly, it is a kind of oversimplification to say that it is VERY IMPORTANT to have right pronunciation in Russian. If you say ALL soft consonants as hard you definitely be understood by native speakers. Yep, it sounds "foreign", but you will be understood for sure. If you really want to be "native" -- try to say hard consonant with center of your mouth open, but corners of your lips closed and directed down. Google "immortal abbath" for reference how it should look like )

The examples don‘t sound natural, there are sometimes „hypercorrect“ and actually false. There is no palatalized ж in Russian like in your дрожжи, in часы there is no „a“ sound, езжу is to be pronounced „ежжу“ in Standard Russian etc.

Если я говорю, что мне что-то режет слух, то говорю я это как компетентный носитель, родившийся и выросший в Ленинграде, - а слушать меня или игнорировать уже пусть каждый для себя решает. Ясно, что и в запорожских деревнях тоже native speaker‘ы живут, но учить иностранцев их варианту произношения странно.

Надо так же обучать их твёрдой Чъ и мягкой ЦЬ - что бы они ощущали эти противопоставления, которые в современном языке крайне шатко, но присутствуют, в той или иной мере (луЧше, цЮрих). В общем я думаю идею вы поняли, что я пытаюсь сказать.
п.с. Я видел видео, где Щ на полном серьёзе учат произносить как ЩЬЧЬ - вот там я был просто в шоке и не понимал зачем это делается.
У меня есть подозрение что бы выразить своб белорусскую позицию (хотя там говорят ШЧъ если не ошибаюсь), но всё же это довольно странно было видеть, что учат с серьёзным лицом говорить так. без предупреждения.
п.п.с. Я согласен, что в данном видео крайне странно говорили некоторые слова, типа: чАсы (вместо "чисы"), дЪня (вместо назализированного "дня"), боК (вместо боХ). Вообще тут очень много странностей - как будто учителя не слышат что сами говорят, но вот на счёт ЖЬ я категорически не согласен - идея очень дельная, дающее лучшее понимание языкового устройства.
И на счёт нормальности того, что в современном русском нет полноценных противопоставлений Чъ-ЧЬ. Ц-ЦЬ, Ж-ЖЬ, Е-Э (и так далее) -- я просто не согласен в плане принятия этого как некоего блага что ли (не знаю как выразить иначе). Нормальность тут фактическая (по факту "таков факт, а значит это есть хорошо"), но не идеальная - это нарушение симметрии (что таки "нормально" для естественного языка, но я и не про это).
Я убеждён, что только в наших силах развивать и делать язык разнообразнее, и делать это нужно имеющимися инструментами, развивать их в нечто большее, а не уничтожать (ЖЬ, ихние и так далее). А то получается, что возможность сохранить имеем, но в итоге уничтожаем, притворяясь якобы мы научно-нейтральны и мы тут непричём - "оно само так, я просто описываю то что есть" и это якобы не оказывает никакого влияния, якобы не закрепляет то, что вы и описали так, как описали, и такое отношение якобы естественно и единственно правильно (и потом просто эти словарные записи насильно внедряются ученикам и обществу). Мы сами и оказываем влияние на язык, вот в чём дело. Фактически уничтожаем важные детали языка и его развитие в естественном ключе внутри себя, заставляя превозносить иностранщину и унижать естественное как якобы нарушение языка (я был свидетелем как человек написал о слове с ошибкой, требуя исправить "ПОФИКСИ ошибку - такого слова нет" -- это просто абсурд! Значит естественного слова для русского языка нет, а вот ПОФИКСИ есть! Я просто разрываюсь от негодования, когда вспоминаю это, как даже окружающие люди не видят ненормальности в ситуации. Современное отношение к языку меня просто убивает - оно просто разрушительно, когда одни цепляются за словарь, как за ману небесную и жестоко применяют психологическое и социальное насилие против всего внутренне-развивающегося, а другие в ответ на это просто начинают пачками заглатывать иностранщину (и это логично - нужно же язык развивать, а его развивать внутри не дают, и когда берут иностранщину, блюстители языка как будто засыпают и получается логика "Сохраним язык закостеневшим, а что бы он развивался, разрушим его взамен иностранщиной (и бандитщиной)").
Ладно, у меня это больная тема. Люди просто не понимают такого отношения к языку как у меня - всегда впадают в крайности (либо фанатичный языковед, либо пофигист и все они разрушают язык тем, что оба необъяснимо не приемлют естественности развития языка, дискриминируя эти детали, создающиеся обществом внутри языка).
В общем, если вы не согласны, то получается так, что мы просто не сойдёмся - наши мировоззрения и убеждения о языке несовместимо различаются.

Not a constant, but a consonant. In Russian, voiced consonants at the end of words are stunned (лоб - лоП, раз - раС).
In this particular case, in the word "Bog", they say not "bok", but "boh" - this is an exception word and it does not fit into what they explain. Бок is side, Бог (боХ) - God.
Okay, since when do we pronounce the word “Bog” (God) as “Bok”? (Чей, простите, бок? :D) Are you kidding me? We pronounce this as “Bokh” (“kh” like sound “h” in the words “have”, “house”, “horse”). This is special word and bad as example.
