  • I have used Canon cameras for many years in my life as a professional photographer. From the 35mm A1 to the latest DSLR's . Here I talk about one of my favorites, the Canon 5d Mark 3. I talk about my experiences of using this camera, show some of the photographs taken with it and talk about how it holds up in 2021.

I love my Canon 5D MK III. Yes it's old, it's noisy, it's a freaking dinasaur that but you know what, something about the color in this 5D mk III make it special. I used this camera for portraits and I can tell you, this camera still a beast even in 2021.

After nearly 40 years as a photographer I can honestly say in 2012 barley one month after the 5d Mkiii was available I knew I had just got a classic workhorse. I have worked with loads of different set-ups, from 4/3rds to 8"x10" cameras, the 5Dmkiii is simply the best camera I have owned. I switched over to Canon from Olympus digital with the 5Dmkii but I wasn't fully happy until the Mkiii [the Mkii and its shutter sound was never confidence building :) ].

I bought a 5dIII last year with only 15,000 shutter clicks for about $500 usd. Paired with my 24-105 f4, this combo is quite a workhorse, and the total cost was under $1,000 USD. I HIGHLY recommend this set up for anybody at any level. I am a "focus-recompose" person, so I don't care about all the auto focus advances on the newer systems. I'm doing a week long shoot at a camp soon, and this will be my main camera and lens for the week.

I just had a friend give me a Canon EOS 5D MIII. He went to the mirrorless cameras and said I had helped him so much with various projects, that he wanted me to have it. Now, I'm sitting here with a manual and YT videos trying to figure out how to use it. I've been using the Sony NEX5N, and 4X4 view, so a bit of a learning curve for me. After watching your video, at least I know I'm not wasting my time trying to learn this new camera. Enjoyed the video very much!

I've had my 5D mk 3 since 2013 and am still more than happy with it. It's reliable and gives good images.

I bought a second-hand one 6 months ago with only about 30,000 shots at an unbeatable price. Impeccable. I invested some more money in three new lenses, a wide-angle Zoom, and two fixed focal lengths. I got fed up with my 40D after so much use and it starts to feel tired. It has been in my possession for 14 years. The 5D mkiii is outstanding. Photography is a great passion of mine, and I am very enthusiastic. I am so satisfied.

I bought a Nikon D3500 when we went into lockdown last year; I got the photography bug and bought a second-hand 5D Mk III a couple of months ago.

Very informative video for the photography aspect. I have been searching for a photography centric channel. Everyone is so focused on the video aspect that they are forgetting us photography guys and gals. I just got my 5D3 after shooting with the 5D2 for the last year this was a real upgrade for me. I am so overwhelmed on all the features that this has over my 5D2

It’s always great to hear from a professional who has put hundreds of thousands of clicks on these cameras. I’ve got the 5d Classic, and it has been such an invaluable tool, making me a much better photographer. I’ve been looking into adding a mkiii to my bag (I’m never selling the Classic), and your video has been very useful.

It’s great watching your videos because you have real experience using the equipment, I got stuck using the 5D mk1 for 15 years photographing weddings, still love it, just trying the mk4. Great videos keep making them

I had 5D mk I for few years and when decided to upgrade, I knew I'll stay with 5D. Bought second hand mark III in great condition and using it over a year now with no regrets. Its performance is perfect for my needs, it's solid and reliable. The only problem I had once, was battery drained overnight but it was M44/EOS adapter's fault. Atm I'm not thinking about buying other body, rather looking for nice lenses. Cheers. 😀

I decided to take my photography to the next level and I got my self a 5d3 I also got the 24-70 2.8 the 70-200 2.8 and the 50 1.2 as I want to do wedding and portrait photography. It’s an amazing camera for its age. The quality of image and the knowing that it will just work is fantastic. I have been building my portfolio up with this camera for the last few months and I have now got my first wedding shot in July. Proper happy with the canon. I will go mirrorless around some point but for now it does the job perfectly.

I purchased the Canon 5D Mark iii, back in 2014 shortly after it came out. It has helped me create stunning photography. As 2022 came around I was trying figure out if I needed to upgrade, but after watching your video and several others, I have ultimately decided to continue using my dinosaur. Knowing that still in 2022, professionals like myself are still choosing to use their dino over newer cameras, helped me make my decision. I shoot long exposure and nature/travel photography, and my photographs are still as stunning as they were when I first purchased the camera.

I’m using a canon eos 5D Mark III. Bought it used with a Canon 24-70mm f2,8. Have shot about 100 short movies with it. I’m also using a 7D MKII. But this is another piece of incredible quality. I moved over from Nikon and have never regretted it. Thanks for a good video!

Based partly on your review, yesterday, I bought my first full frame camera which is a Canon 5D Mark iii with a shutter count of only 8153. It came with a Canon 16-35 f/2.8 ii lens. The original owner bought both the camera and lens direct from Canon in 2015. It's such a thrill to shoot with this full frame camera and L type lens. Up to this point I've owned 4 different cropped Canon cameras. I'm still going to keep my Canon 7D Mark ii which I love. Thank you for your in depth review. It really helped me make up my mind.
