    I bought a 5dm3 almost 9 years ago. Shot a year long project for my employer. The assignment was to provide images from events we sponsor for next years calendar. It’s a bank and I’m a IT guy. Known for my travel and event photography but not a professional. It was a blast. Sideline for football and basketball, all access to events, just a blast. My travel photos improved 5 fold from the experience. I purchased a second one last year as my first had reached 150k clicks. Picked up a nice one with 23k for $600 us. I love having two cards while traveling. CF card get the large RAW and up until the last trip, the SD was JPG. My last trip, Switzerland, I shot small RAW on the SD and did some processing on the iPad before posting. My travel pics were boosted several levels again. Great cameras. I just wish I had more time to use them.

    If it is possible to love an inanimate object then I love my 5D III. I was on the point of trading it through MPB. As I was about to put it in its box to send away I swear it cried. So I kept it. I have a 5d3 with L lenses (my favorite the 11-24 f4).
    Always carry it with me.
    I’ve added the Sony ZVE10 for video.
    In time I may add / swap that ZVE10, but the Canon will stay with me until it can’t go any further.
    The images are amazing.
    I often think of the images/ photos that have been taken with film cameras and with older digital cameras.
    I really think that there really isn’t a need for me to upgrade to the latest, every time new technology comes out.

    • @ChrisBaitson
      @ChrisBaitson  2 года назад +1

      Image quality is better in general. A lot cleaner looking. You can push the ISO further before the images turn nasty. Depth of field is a lot shallower which is probably what you’ll notice first off. Other than that there’s not a lot of difference.

      @@ChrisBaitson I have been pretty happy with my Rebel SL3 for making videos but the pictures don’t turn out as well as I’d hoped. I realize my inadequacies as a photographer play a large part in that but I think (hope) that using a full frame camera with the full frame lenses I’ve purchased make for better images. The Mark 1 I bought was only $145 from MPB and they say it’s in excellent condition. I’m glad to hear that’s where you bought yours! Thanks for the video.

    Chris, if you aren't already, I suggest using Highlight Tone Priority and shooting raw. You can ETTR much further bringing up your shadows and mids while still holding highight detail- and yes this absolutely translates to an advantage in raw files (unlike a Jpeg HDR setting). Doing this will eliminate the advantage other sensors have in shadows and midtones as you won't have to push them so hard.

    Got my 5D Mark iii, last year as the prices second hand have significantly dropped. Due to the bad condition of the body it was a bargain, but it and still works fine. The main reason I went for the 5d3 was because of the 6 second magic lantern RAW video limit with my 6d as the 5d3 can write to the CF card much more faster and film continuous. The only gripe I've got with the 5d3 is that the focusing screen isn't user interchangeable. I can only use my manual fast lenses in live view to focus (but I prefer the viewfinder). So except when shooting RAW video, I use my manual lenses on my 6d. Which makes sense as the autofocus of the 5d3 is so much more advanced than the 6d. I'm glad I never sold it as it compliments the 5d3 quite nicely.

    • @ChrisBaitson
      @ChrisBaitson  2 года назад +1

      I keep looking back at the 6D as they’re around £400 used now which is an absolute steal. My 5D3 came with one scuff to the paint at the bottom so I grabbed a bargain there too. I tried magic lantern on my 6D years ago but I found it a little clunky at times. I use my manual lenses on my RP for the focus peaking; I always had a nightmare with DSLRs and manual lenses.
