This video show cases how Plastic and life less "Supers" animation has been. But the animators where rushed very often, but still it is a shame to know that because they wanted to air the show so badly, production was rushed and that beautifully shadowed and colored old school DBZ art was lost. DBZ for the most part had decent animation compared to Super on average. And When the Broly Movie came out, I actually felt like it was a slight attempt at trying to use a similar art style. I liked it, but not as much as DBZs shadowing and detail lines, facial expression and the INTENSITY of emotions. i mean wow! I loved this - thank you so much for posting this!
The sharper edges and type of shading in DBZ art style is precisely why I always favor more stylized designs, even if they feel less natural and smooth
Z is by far the best style and I'm really hoping that when super comes back, they will switch back to the Z format, or something very similar. Not that it will lool exactly like Z, but that the artists will actually have time to get everything perfect. I did hear a while back that that's what they were going to do when it comes back, as well as making it bloody again. Bringing back Z levels of bloodiness and allowing the artists the proper amount of time to make everything perfect would make dbs infinitely more appealing and make the story that much more intense and emotional.
I sincerely hope that does NOT happen! The manga's artstyle SHOULD be the anime's main artstyle until the end of the show, that is if it comes back. Super's artstyle looks overall shinier, which I loved and i prefered over Z's outdated style. Super artstyle (Not including the Broly movie's)>>Z's animation style ALL the way.
The mangas art style is very good and the blood less issue was because of censor boards going no our kids are too sensitive to see blood but they sure can see sexual references and relationships yeah so there would have been blood if the Japanese and other censor boards were good
Sadly thats not going to happen, the reason is the that old superior artstyle takes more time aka money to do , while the newer one is cheaper and faster, At the end of the day money trumps all other reasons. Plus they dont care about popularity issues because DB has become an established franchise, they know people will watch/buy regardless
Dragon Ball Super is what happens when you let someone work on a project they don't like or don't fully understand, while being underpaid and overworked. It's a shame, considering the love and international recognition for Toriyama's work.
Now, THIS is a perfect example that dbs doesn't look as great as people think AND that the dbs artstyle can't touch the look of the old-school artstyle. Amazing.
This is literally the opposite of what you said. This is proof that the only people who claim DBZ looks better than DBS consistently are those who are stuck with rose tinted glasses and only watch the highlights of Z, while only using the low points of Super as evidence.
@Happened Earth72 there, I fixed it. Dick. I'm a DB fan through and through and love all of it, but I still think nothing can or will touch the dbz art style. Go try that with someone else.
The old Toriyama-Z style just hit so much harder, had so much more expressiveness to it, both in the characters' expressions and their artistic design. They had more emotion, seemed more imposing, had more colour and vitality, felt more alive. The current style is....nice, and clean, and consistent, but it's TOO clean, it's very obvious it's all been highly touched up and straightened up in editing and design software, and all the extra visual effects that were used in place of the old handdrawn special effects, it all just screams artificialness, and lacks much if not all of the things that made it artistic.
I really wish someone would be able to animate Super and/or make a Super Parody to just have its narrative be better, like how Something Witty Animation has done with SAO. It would be incredible! Only a dream tho sadly

I love the art style of the buu saga
Probably one of my fav
For me Namek saga artstyle from Akira Toriyama is peak. Buu saga is my seccond favorite.

0:58 now this one REALLY looks like Z.
fav one
The best
In Z each frame was distinctive, Super just looks like 'another' anime. 😂😂😂
4:55 the Z version looks like an actual villain and the super version looks like an evil femboy which is not in the slightest bit scary
This comment is so gay looking😭😭 bro just described another dude as a femboy
man you didn't have to make fun of goku black like that 😭
Broo.
Broo.
Them neck muscles tho
The Z artstyle makes the characters look menacing. I love it!
4:54 you can’t argue dbz style makes goku black way more evil looking
Cabbe in last comparison looks like teen SSJ2 Gohan he has an incredible flow 🤩
This is 🔥!!
Congratulations to the people who drew these!
Spectacular work!
Not only would the character look cool but the backgrounds caught my eye the most ngl there sick
The sharper edges and type of shading in DBZ art style is precisely why I always favor more stylized designs, even if they feel less natural and smooth
Both are stylized. DBZ has more dynamic and organic shapes, better proportions, better attention to detail.
@@Ttea83Super fits better in the garbage bin.
THIS IS REALLY INGENIOUS! 🤯That DBZ art is bringing so many after school nostalgia’s!
Everything looks so much better! amazing!
Bringing back Z levels of bloodiness and allowing the artists the proper amount of time to make everything perfect would make dbs infinitely more appealing and make the story that much more intense and emotional.
the bloodless violence really hurt super's presentation in places as it made the stakes feel lower, and i say that as someone who likes super.
The mangas art style is very good and the blood less issue was because of censor boards going no our kids are too sensitive to see blood but they sure can see sexual references and relationships yeah so there would have been blood if the Japanese and other censor boards were good
Super sucks @@dl0680
Sadly thats not going to happen, the reason is the that old superior artstyle takes more time aka money to do , while the newer one is cheaper and faster, At the end of the day money trumps all other reasons. Plus they dont care about popularity issues because DB has become an established franchise, they know people will watch/buy regardless
Black, Caulifla, Trunks and Cabba look way better in this artstyle
Fr tho, just look how Goku Black looks in DBZ art style at 1:38
7:00 Cabba looks insane right here.
The only complain I have is that at 2:50 their bodies look so tense, it feels like they're all being grabbed by a giant invisible hand
We need a petition to have the animators bring back the OG art style
We need a DBS Kai where it’s the entire show reanimated like Z/Broly movie
Dragon Ball Super is what happens when you let someone work on a project they don't like or don't fully understand, while being underpaid and overworked. It's a shame, considering the love and international recognition for Toriyama's work.
Would be awesome to see superhero done in the z style, honestly watching Gohan transform would be amazing just as he transformed into ssj2
I like how you can actually comprehend vegeta’s blue evolution form
If Super was made in Z style, would be perfect.
1:42 goku black on Z art is DRIP incarnate.
He looks so badass
Hair detail+character expression in the Z art style was just perfect.

Old animation styles always goes hard 🔥

I really wish someone would be able to animate Super and/or make a Super Parody to just have its narrative be better, like how Something Witty Animation has done with SAO. It would be incredible! Only a dream tho sadly
If only copy right wasn’t a bitch 😔
@@TomasBregman its a parody, its being used within fair use.
You mean dragon ball abridged?
@@Bruik_Blaine36 Yes, a very effective argument to use against a Japanase company subject to a completely different jurisdiction. A company, in particular, that actively seeks and obliterates "parodies". I'm sure their army of lawyers will be most compelled by that argument.
Ai will soon be able to do it for us 🎉
The amount of epicness that is shown here.....freaking awesome!! I'd love to see more!!! 👍😎👍
Bro DBS in the Z art style look soo much more awesome 🔥. The oldschool Z art style portrays more grit and depth to all the characters whereas the DBS art style makes the characters look more shiny and smooth to show more light reflection along with darker shadowing. Not that im saying the DBS art style is bad but the Z art style just holds more emotion, grit, and ruggedness to all the characters like how they were meant to look. Looking pure menacing and serious. It's too bad we'll never actually see DBS animated like this cuz this would've made the show way more badass 👌🏼🔥
every shot with vegeta or goku was perfect, they had the hair we know about, not some small squished hair super tried to give them, instead its the fluffy spikes for vegeta, and the fluffly, poofy black hair for goku, man i love that
Nothing beats the classics
For Some Cases It Will But Not For This Case

The Goku form DBS looks like a natural bodybuilder but the DBZ version looks like he is on steroids fr😭😭🙏🏽

4:44 if Caulifla was drawn like this in DBS, her popularity would have skyrocketed

Z art just hits different. Way more detail than anything in super. I think its the combination of nonstalgia and the fact that it looks like more work and care gets put into it.
It's not nostalgia, it's simply better
OG DBZ animation all day!
Z always cool😂
this is the art we need and deserve
I still draw in the way they did in Z. It's just perfect.
So cool draw
The Z alternative for the copycat Vegeta at 2:09 looks so much better than the original in my opinion. Something the darker shade and more evil look that make it come off as more intimidating. Who knows, it might’ve actually made me care for the mini-arc.

@@hatchhyjackanimation is a factor that makes the show more compelling to the original style of the show or movie. The Dragon ball super, i dont know if you know this, takes a LOT more time to animate than the dragon ball z artstyle. Such as the goku black vs saiyans fight, jiren vs goku & universe 7.
Z makes everything more detailed and focused super Is very simple and oversaturated while Z was perfect it’s why Goku vs all the villains are the best and most iconic fights in Z to this day it will never reach same heights again
