Nah, who let bro cook😂 I get that this is subjective, but holy cow man. To start off nicely, DB’s art style is generally agreeable. It’s not exactly peak, but it’s cute and it evolves just enough to capture the tension of the piccolo fights. Saiyan Saga’s art is so easy on the eyes that it’s hard to really hate. Even the “rough around the edges” aspects tie nicely into the visual language of Vegeta (for instance) in relation to his more refined proportions by the end of Z. That twitter meme saying “Vegeta’s chin got the most development” is 100% accurate in the best way possible. He LOOKS like an arrogant prince with a lot to learn, something that modern Yamamuro’s art can’t quite capture. In short, its unrefined look is its greatest strength and should be an easy A tier. Namek looks good when Ebisawa isn’t animating😂, this arc can look fugly at times! Though Frieza’s softer eyebrows in his final form look great and I’m disappointed that it took Shintani to bring them back in the Broly movie. The Android/Cell Saga develops a LOT of differences from the Namek Saga as it gets closer to the Cell games. Around the time that Cell arrives and transforms is where Tadayoshi Yamamoro comes in and gives us his signature strong proportions with Kamiccalo, Super Vegeta, and SSJ2 Gohan to name a few. I do believe that researching exactly who drew these arcs does highlight quite a lot of differences and gives more depth to the opinions presented. Buu’s art is peak Z, agreeably, but it’s not without its jarringly ugly spots. There’s one instance that comes to mind where Goku and Majin Vegeta “agree” to refocus on Buu and it’s drawn twice by two different teams as a cliffhanger and a post credits opener. Seeing the B team’s version in comparison to the cliffhanger is wack AF, And once you notice it, you see that the B team have been around since the Android Saga at least and most of Z looks way worse in my mind for it😂. There is no universe in which GT’s art is worse than Super’s. I’m sorry but I’d prefer David Yate’s GT with its occasionally mucky color palette than having my retinas burned by Super’s art style. Even the TOP’s bright colors look BLOWN OUT, just look at SSBE Vegeta and MUI Goku’s auras when they transform. They look dangerously bright on the eyes! Shintani’s Broly art is peak DBS, but there are times where the composition between characters and the backgrounds don’t quite jive well together. These are few and far between, but one notable example is the POV sequence when Broly is zoning in on Goku, firing ki blasts at him, and punching him through mountains. The hands firing the ki blasts in that sequence look like Gumball putting his “how to basic-esque” sandwich together with the flat motion and lack of foreshortening. Still a great fight and art style, but a bit too experimental and hit or miss with some scenes. DBS Super Hero is certainly the best that CG Dragon ball has looked, but dear God do the scenes with Goku and Vegeta on Beerus’s planet look unfinished! Still strange how the prettiest scene in the film is the 2d drawn series recap at the beginning😂. We simply do not know enough about Daima to give it a verdict, but this is probably the most faithful art style in adapting modern Toriyama’s illustrations. The bubbly proportions are explicitly meant to transcribe his modern chibi look and it looks great so far! Overall, I guess my main issue with this tier list is that, without extensive research on who drew the series at what point and what went wrong or right, a lot of the rankings seem more aggravating. No crucifixion was intended with this comment, and I do understand not turning this video into a thirty minute rehash of what Totally Not Mark, Anime Ajay, etc. have educated us on.

Not gonna lie I kinda vibe with this list. I think simplicity and colors work with the dynamic fighting better than a shiny stiff one. It just let the animators make the fights smoother. For GT......its like they turned up the shiny highlights and turned down the contrast. GT's designs are sick (other than the Frieza and Cell ones) and just needed vibrant colors. Go back and look at Goku's gi on Namek in 1080p it's magnificent 👌
While I do agree with the rest of the video, I gotta join the group saying “Early Super isn’t above GT.” Personal thing, I liked the GT artstyle. Though it does feel washed out and weird looking (especially the Shenron scene you showed), the backdrops for the Baby fight, the Dragon Fist against Eis, and Super 17’s fight look super nice. BoG’s Super arc just looks…so bad. The shading there is even more flat than GT’s, imo. Coming in as a recent DB fan, take that as you will.
You really criticized gt Goku not having that chubby young look and that would be a fair criticism if Goku was an actual kid instead of an adult who was at his peak physical form with fully developed muscles I think giving GT Goku the chubby look like OG Dragonball wouldn’t make sense to me since he is at a completely different physical status then when he was a child
Cell Saga / Buu Saga ORIGINAL animation on average had pretty good quality animation. Super Sayins looked knida angelic in away how they did their eyes and almost white/beige/light gold color. Like SERIOUSLY! compare the overall SS 1 transformation from Super to Cell or Buu Saga SS, man. . . its sad to see Super suffered from animators being given such little time to work on the show
I love everything from classic DB to Z, but my favorite style is the Freeza/Cell one. Even if Boo was the most refined, I think the less refined but still sleek look of Freeza/Cell is my favorite style, even if Boo is a close second. Oh, and the Tournament of Power and Broly styles are great.
i think what really makes DBS broly's art style stick out the most is the simple shading/lighting and that hand drawn feel. it gives the characters the life they needed behind those dead, over-saturated eyes 😭 the problem with super was that 2015 kids youtube channel color palette, and the over used 3 tone shading. it just made a lot of characters look so oily in a lot of scenes idk. I really hope we get to see the broly art style again

Saiyan saga is A tier 😂 freezer Saga, and cell saga look way different from each other, buu saga looks yucky compared to freezer and cell saga. But overall Dragon Ball Z itself is S
See, in ye olde cell animation, when a character stood completely still there would still be 2 or 3 different drawings of the same image. So even standing around doing nothing, it still looked like they were breathing or a slight breaze was going by. Shintani doesnt need to stretch anything out but his shot of goku in the trailer was just goku standing in the wind with his hair and gee fluttering lookef great. I think super looks like a lazy power point so much of the time.
for me Supers artstyle is the worst, the battles seem like theres no struggle at all since the only thing that gets damage are clothes (i know the manga has it, and the anime censored it to make it more child friendly) the scratches and blood on Z, GT and even OG was way better
DBS beginning to most of the tourney is F tier, parts of the Tournament of Power when you see Goku fighting Caulifa and Kale and Vegeta fighting Jiren is Z tier. Buu Saga/Fusion Reborn is definitely Z tier. GT was better than Super's Naruto's art style. The Broly movie style is A tier for me, but there was way too much particle effects. It made his transformation kind of meaningless, compared to the OG Broly movie.
How can you say that cell saga and namek saga art style is the same, they are so much more anguler and also the art is just different, peraonally i find them nothing alike..
og dragonball art is the only one that belongs in Z tier, it has a beautiful textured watercolor feel and actual creativity in char designs saiyan, frieza, cell, and broly is A tier everything after that is just varying degrees of shiny plastic with hideous body proportions, ugly line work, samey (or literally the same) villains and no charm -- and can be thrown right in the trash
How Db gt could be f tier? It's way better than Db Super, Db super is only good in the end on Zeo tournament. Most of the tiers I agree. But gb definitely is not worst than super.
My personal favorites are the 23rd tenkaichi and Shintani's art style. Both of these I absolutely love. Just to be clear Dragon Ball has always been hand drawn outside of Super Hero. Daima is also supposed to be more like current Akira Toriyama's art style as his style hasn't been consistent. You can often see how his style has changed with the Dragon Quest Series as he's the main artist for that series as well. I also saw a ton of Naotoshi Shida showcases which is nice because he's been on the series since early Dragon Ball, with his most famous scene from early dragon ball being one of the fights between Goku and Krillin in the 21st tenkaichi. Also the hand drawn sequences in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero were all done exclusively by Chikashi Kubota. He did the opening and all of those 2D flash backs himself. Much of the 2D effects were handled by various artists at toei.
This is just my thoughts on the different styles from looking at the series. LMK what your favorite style was!

Bro including DBS in a video that’s called a DBZ video is crazy
While I do agree with the rest of the video, I gotta join the group saying “Early Super isn’t above GT.” Personal thing, I liked the GT artstyle. Though it does feel washed out and weird looking (especially the Shenron scene you showed), the backdrops for the Baby fight, the Dragon Fist against Eis, and Super 17’s fight look super nice. BoG’s Super arc just looks…so bad. The shading there is even more flat than GT’s, imo. Coming in as a recent DB fan, take that as you will.
Best art style: Goku VS Vegeta( Buu Saga) Goku VS Kid Buu
Putting GT in F but Super higher is just wrong.
"art is subjective"
I thought he was ranking the Animators Artyles
You really criticized gt Goku not having that chubby young look and that would be a fair criticism if Goku was an actual kid instead of an adult who was at his peak physical form with fully developed muscles I think giving GT Goku the chubby look like OG Dragonball wouldn’t make sense to me since he is at a completely different physical status then when he was a child
I didnt criticism gt for not having chubby goku. I pointed the differences between GT and the original series
did you know that goku's gi:
in db is red
in dbz is orange
in dbs orange clearly
in dbs movies is between orange/yellow
in dbd is yellow
You missed GT which goku's gi is light blue
also the teal-like color in the end of Z
Tbh yeah I also think the Buu Saga characters looked good but the story was the weakest of DBZ. Even then it had some good monents still.
Cell Saga / Buu Saga ORIGINAL animation on average had pretty good quality animation.
Super Sayins looked knida angelic in away how they did their eyes and almost white/beige/light gold color. Like SERIOUSLY!
compare the overall SS 1 transformation from Super to Cell or Buu Saga SS, man. . . its sad to see Super suffered from animators being given such little time to work on the show
Daima artstyle is based off modern toriyama art
If super was remastered with shintami animation and a slightly different story line that didn't have bad parts like super immediately using ssjb
I love everything from classic DB to Z, but my favorite style is the Freeza/Cell one. Even if Boo was the most refined, I think the less refined but still sleek look of Freeza/Cell is my favorite style, even if Boo is a close second. Oh, and the Tournament of Power and Broly styles are great.
i think what really makes DBS broly's art style stick out the most is the simple shading/lighting and that hand drawn feel. it gives the characters the life they needed behind those dead, over-saturated eyes 😭
the problem with super was that 2015 kids youtube channel color palette, and the over used 3 tone shading. it just made a lot of characters look so oily in a lot of scenes idk. I really hope we get to see the broly art style again
Who paid you to put GT below Super?
Actually, who hit you over the head with an aluminium bat to put Super anywhere BUT the dumpster?
everyone's so upset but not listening, some of the dbz composition is bad and he's acknowledging them 😭 yall are just baised 😭😭
Extreme disagree
Oh hey I watch your videos 😅 what do you disagree with?
The saiyan arc in particular being so long, especially in comparison to the TOP. GT as well, though not my fav, has an amazing aesthetic overall. Appreciate you watching though! Just ripped my heart a bit to see you rank GT and saiyan so low lol @@KeyReviewsOfficial
@@SmugStick Honestly after I made the video I felt I was too hard on the Saiyan Saga and should've put it higher. What held it back for me was the character designs being my least favorite in Z even though I do still like them. Personally I just didn't like GTs style all that much growing up and so it just stayed with me even now 😂 but yea love your videos man, been watching for a while even before I made this channel! Keep doing your thing 👍
Here’s my list:
Animation smoothness: dbs broly
Art style:
all except dbs show and gt
Scenery: db path to power
Colour palette: db path to power
Choreography: dbs broly
Character designs: dbz
Reply with yours.
seems you made a mistake, you for some reason pur DBS in A tier when it should 100% be in F tier, it's more poorly animated than GT by a long shot
DB Super always looked off and kinda bad to me. The DB Super Hero movie having that lame low fps cgi I hate that, it looks terrible and it painful to watch.
Saiyan saga is A tier 😂 freezer Saga, and cell saga look way different from each other, buu saga looks yucky compared to freezer and cell saga. But overall Dragon Ball Z itself is S
I really hope they never use that 3d artstyle
I hated the whole movie because of it
See, in ye olde cell animation, when a character stood completely still there would still be 2 or 3 different drawings of the same image. So even standing around doing nothing, it still looked like they were breathing or a slight breaze was going by. Shintani doesnt need to stretch anything out but his shot of goku in the trailer was just goku standing in the wind with his hair and gee fluttering lookef great. I think super looks like a lazy power point so much of the time.
for me Supers artstyle is the worst, the battles seem like theres no struggle at all since the only thing that gets damage are clothes (i know the manga has it, and the anime censored it to make it more child friendly)
the scratches and blood on Z, GT and even OG was way better
If Dbs is returning
I hope they use Shintani style it's just looks more Fluid and smooth
DBS beginning to most of the tourney is F tier, parts of the Tournament of Power when you see Goku fighting Caulifa and Kale and Vegeta fighting Jiren is Z tier. Buu Saga/Fusion Reborn is definitely Z tier. GT was better than Super's Naruto's art style. The Broly movie style is A tier for me, but there was way too much particle effects. It made his transformation kind of meaningless, compared to the OG Broly movie.
How can you say that cell saga and namek saga art style is the same, they are so much more anguler and also the art is just different, peraonally i find them nothing alike..
og dragonball art is the only one that belongs in Z tier, it has a beautiful textured watercolor feel and actual creativity in char designs
saiyan, frieza, cell, and broly is A tier
everything after that is just varying degrees of shiny plastic with hideous body proportions, ugly line work, samey (or literally the same) villains and no charm -- and can be thrown right in the trash
The super art style disappoints on everything, and this is sad af.
They just look superficial and weak, all ki blasts looks inoffensive.
First seasons of DBS is on C Tear? Are you crazy? That is F Tear at best! Also, the tournament of power is a Z Tier.
How Db gt could be f tier? It's way better than Db Super, Db super is only good in the end on Zeo tournament. Most of the tiers I agree. But gb definitely is not worst than super.
Namek in DBZ and the whole Super apart from ToP is just horrible. First half of namek is ok but the end is unbearable to my eyes.
I love the cartoony look of the very early DB episodes. Goku is just adorable in that era
And katsuyoshi nakatsuru was the charcter designer for the buu saga
Budokai 2 & 3 opening s are the best DBZ has ever looked new broly and Buu saga are really good and belong in z tier
Dragon Ball diama a mix of the Broly movie and Dragon Ball super resurrection f
Much of the 2D effects were handled by various artists at toei.
slightly unrelated but I personally dislike the idea of turning characters back into children, just a bit weird to me.
bro db gt had weird colours its not actually meant to look like that someone fixed the colours
i would 100% pick the og art style over DBS style. It just IS.
I would rank DB super in a coffin under the earth. I hate this style so much it destroyed many dragon Ball moments for me
Title says Dbz, yet you're including Og super and Gt. ????
8:15 "black goku arc''
keyreviews, 2024
Huh?
@@KeyReviewsOfficialmaybe it was just me, but i heard black goku instead of goku black and it sounded really funny to me
@@Sybry605 Ohh yea I did say black Goku lol
Super should be the only one in F tier tournament of power was good but the rest was way worse then anything else and GT clears that.
Really ranking super above GT, it feels like theres some prejudice there, Super artstyle feels so rushed while GT is a lot more detailed.
Nope that’s the animation that’s rushed not that I like super art style but that’s objectively wrong 😅 sorry if this sounds a bit mean!
seeing super in A and gt in F is hilarious
Not really.
@@Sydney-wi1ymit is
@@Say_King77 it isn't.
Gt’s “lighting issue” comes from the fact that by the time they released it the film had already started to age.
Buu saga on top, saiyan saga next for me.
Whis and beerus look like video game characters in dbs superheroe
