Also keep in mind that these all tend to wear out tires more quickly than non all-wheel-drive cars, and that it’s always recommended that all four are replaced rather than just two. I find I typically have to replace tires every 40,000 miles regardless of tire manufacturer (I tried Dunlap once, other than that I always run Michelin and rotate my tires every oil change). So it’s good to keep on-going costs for tires in mind, but even with these costs, no SUV beats the Q7 or Q5 or their VW and Porsche cousins for ride quality, comfort, quiet, and very athletic handling. The Touareg TDI in particular might be the most under-rated pearlescent diamond in the automotive universe. However, if also having lots of passenger and cargo space are your thing, the Q7 is king of the herd.

Just a heads up on another issue with the 3.0l v6 (not sure if other engines are also effected). They blow their injector seals. you'll know when they go because you'll start to smell diesel fumes in the cabin of the car. The replacement injector seals are a slightly different design to the originals ones, which should hopefully fix the issue permanently

I own a 2007 3.0 TDi. I've had several of these issues including the broken wiper and broken blower motor (both easily replaced).
I also had the issue of the intake manifold flaps on one side about 4 years ago. Now I have the issue on the other side, but as mentioned in this video, it doesn't affect performance so I haven't got it fixed yet.
I also currently have an issue with the turbo actuator. Car runs fine from start, but if I either sit in traffic for extended periods, or turn the car off (i.e. go into the shops) then start driving again when the engine is still warm, the turbo actuator temporarily stops working and I get very poor acceleration. This usually resolves itself after a few minutes of driving, but is still very annoying.

This is coming from an ACTUAL Q7 OWNER, myself and I'll just say this. I've HEARD all of the horror stories that were mentioned in this video about the vehicle and never had a 1/4 of the issues that was mention and between me and my wife, we own 2 of them. They are both Tdi's and both prestige models. We've been owning them for over 10 years with mines at 124k and hers at 92k now. I have every single option on mines including the very rare luxury package and just being honest, the only issue that I ever had was indeed the door handles in which I still have on the truck. I just always use the keyfob itself to lock and unlock the doors rather than the touch sensor. The early model Q7's, pre-facelift versions had/have this issue because of the design. What happens is water tends to get inside of them after the rubber seals fail over time, causing the chip in them to go bad. It cost online right at about $230 for all four handles as a set and a teenager with common sense could replace them. I just never bothered because of what's mention already. I get 625 miles out of one tank of fuel and that's even hammering on it from time to time. The truck only has a 26 gallon tank and weights right at about 6k with all of the options that I have. My wife's truck being newer has the 8 spd tranny and gets around 635-640 miles out of one tank all at the cost of around $68 from empty at the current cost of fuel where we live. To ME, that's pretty damn good! I maintain the vehicles myself in my garage and do once a year oil, filters and trans fluid changes and only use VW approved fluids. All in all if you do what you're suppose to do them with them maintenance wise, they will always be good to you. I'll end my reply to you with this fact. Autozone and other parts store giants didn't become the success that they are off of premium vehicles.

I own a 2012 3.0 and have that cold start rattle. I found that if you're an everyday driver you won't hear it as much, probably because a good amount of oil stays in the tensioner overnight. Bad design there for 3.0 ('09-'12 I believe).

    Very good review!
My 2011 Q7 3.0tdi showed some of the issues mentioned such as blower motor, clogged ac drains and chain rattle. It also had a leaking rear air strut at around 275000km and one faulty injectors at 303000. The injectors bolts snapped at around 180000 and the rear crankshaft seal leaked from day one when I bought it with 160000km. Something worth mentioning is a water leak coming from the rear waterpump cover. A pretty simple and cheap parts but quite labour intensive to replace. Another coolant leak can come from the actuator valve in the centre of the engine, which is also a fairly cheap part, yet once again a lot of work to replace.
I had to replace my car at 337000km because of an accident and now bought the 4.2tdi.
Hopefully this one will be as reliable as the 3.0tdi, I guess time will tell.

Back in mid-2016, we bought a 2013 Q7 S line Prestige with the supercharged V6, and it has been a beast of an SUV. If you do good maintenance it's extremely reliable, like Toyota truck reliable, sure the maintenance cost is higher as this is German. The only gripe I have with it is having the wheels balanced correctly, each time I go to the tire center and do the balance and alignment. I have to come back at least one time in the same month for them to do it correctly. Since I have the 21-inch wheels any imperfection is noticeable, but man they look good.

@@olegk455 We use Pirellis Scorpion Zero but they’re a little bit taller than usual 295/40 R21. You could say they’re loud but what do you expect for a tire with a footprint of that size anyways. It is still very comfortable while highway cruising.

Excellent and highly accurate review. I owned a 2009 Audi Q7 for 5-6 years and it was a nightmare with water leaks and electronics failures. The car was mechanically in excellent shape but I had to get rid of it when the amplifier was damaged by water and the entire MMI system shut down, and this was after experiencing MMI water damage and prolonged issues with lighting system failures (and blower also had to be replaced). I don't think you can expect this car to last beyond 6 years without excessive repair costs. I am unlikely to ever consider an Audi again after that experience...

Great review, thank you! I have a 2008 Q7 3.0 Tdi ABT. I have owned this since 2015 and have done quite a bit preventive maintence and the car has worked fine. The only annoying issue is that the engine does not heat to normal operating temperature. Only in rush traffic during summer the temperature gets to normal level. I had the coolant thermostat changed but it did not help. I have done my own search and found an other thermostat which is connected to the EGR system. Could that be a source of the problem?

If it's one thing I've learnt from working on my Q7 is if possible take it to a good euro mechanic for trouble shooting.
I had a dash screen that wasn't working, l bought a new one but it didn't fix it, all up l wasnt about 7 hours work on it and drive 12 months with no radio/air suspension adjustment
Mechanic scanned the ECU for codes and told me what it was then l fixed it
