  • Audi Q7 Turbo Diesel: Death Valley to Utah on one tank of Diesel fuel. MotoMan attempts to drive the Audi Q7 Turbo Diesel (TDi) from the hottest place on record in the US, Death Valley, California, to the coldest place on record in the lower 48, Peter's Sinks, Utah - over 640 miles on one tank of Diesel fuel - even though the Audi's range is only 600 . . .

    I'm not big on SUVs but ever since I sat in a Q7 5 years ago I've been in love with it. It's just magnificent, the build quality and comfort are so far beyond Mercedes or BMW. I've been in the front and back of the first Bangle-generation 760Li and it had nothing on the Q7. To this day the only interior that impressed me as much is the Range Rover.

    I agree that the mileage doesn't seem that great - until you're in a situation like me. Father of four, if I want to take a long road trip, a Touareg or a Cayenne won't haul all six of us (especially not with luggage). A Q7 TDI would haul us all, and do all the off-roading I'd want to do with my family (I'll use my truck for serious off-roading). Ever done Wyoming in the winter? A Q7 makes pretty good sense.

      B Miller totally agree. 2016 Mercedes GL350 Bluetec(blue technology: aka clean diesel) is the perfect for my family too for reasons as you said. Family of 4, two dogs and a love of road trips. Perfect for hauling everyone and the luggage.

    • @andraslibal
      @andraslibal 4 года назад

      There is always a small volume that should be left empty so that the fuel can expand into it.
      You can force more fuel in to fill it completely but it is not a good practice.
      Especially in newer cars where they cannot vent it into the atmosphere so they have an evap chamber with charcoal ...
      that can capture the vapors but if you soak it it destroys it.

    Good review,I enjoyed watching it. I'm from England UK and an Audi Q7 is a fantastic very large, but expensive car. I have a small VAG SUV (Skoda Yeti) which as a 140bhp 2.0 litre TDi. It's a little smaller than a RAV 4, and even with 2 adults, 3 kids and 2 large dogs in the boot, still returns over 50mpg, and I do not drive Miss Daisy! If I am caught in traffic that can't get past say 55mph the average consumption goes up to 60 mpg.

    Hi there, just a comment in case you're not aware of this: USA MPGs and UK MPGs are not interchangeable. 1 US gallon equals 3.8 liters, whereas 1 UK (imperial) gallon equals 4.5 liters. Not only this, but the official tests (and routes) used to measure MPGs are different in both countries. That's why MPGs are always a bit higher in the UK, even when comparing the exact same car.

  • @MotoManTV
    @MotoManTV  11 лет назад

    Yes, it is the 3.0 V6 TDi - The US does not receive the larger engine.

  • @Tarheru

    I own a q7 in the uk, I get roughly 34 mpg on the motorway and 26 around town..
    My previous lexus rx450h never once returned the 44mpg as stated by the company.. In fact it was more like 30 mpg highway if lucky and 20 around town.
    American MPG is ofc different due to you lot not being able to measure properly but facst are the 2.5 tonne truck does GREAT mpg and sound great too

    • @MotoManTV
      @MotoManTV  10 лет назад +1

    • @Tarheru
      @Tarheru 10 лет назад

      MotoManTV thanks :), Must admit though My figs are a bit better when I drive Lexus style, even with my UK limit of 70 miles per hour I can push 37 on the 8 speed box.
      One thing you should've mentioned, turbo lag is simply insane but when it gets going, it really can shift. I am still unsure why your mpg even with conversion is bad, cruise control wins ever time...
      And comment about suspension hiss? It is fully air controlled, as you set it at uto in the vehicle, it hunkers down in motorways to save mpg...
      I have owned and used all the large SUV that the Uk sells, I am going out on a limg and will say for cost per mile? Audi is a clear winner.
      Costs of land/range rover with low mpg and tax = heart aches every month.
      Lexus? As good as ANY car ever made for day to day, mark levison stereo has to be the best ever made.
      BMW? eeek the make more than ford.
      Maybe that would be a great side by side, cost of ownership when your paying > 60k sterling is about the best you can get, it is a big factor now either side of the pond?
      BRILLIANT review though

    The only reason that Diesel fuel isn't cheaper then gasoline is because of tax policy. The government has figured out that truck drivers will continue to buy diesel no matter what the price, so they keep increasing the taxes until the transportation and business lobbyists start to scream. On the other hand they've also noticed that increasing the gas prices via taxes makes voters unhappy, so they don't do that as often. Incidentally, this is also the same reason why the gas prices in MA are more expensive then in NH -- because of taxes. In the US about 1/3 (+/- depending on the state) of the price of fuel is taxes. In Europe the axes (and fuel prices) are much higher. If it wasn't for European taxes, the Europeans would be paying the same prices as everyone else.

    • @jimmyhoffa9
      @jimmyhoffa9 10 лет назад

      Well diesel does cost a little more to produce. In Europe diesel is taxed lower so it works out to be the same or incredibly close to petrol in price, incentivising people to buy more economical diesel cars.

    SixXliebtTechno No, diesel is not new in the US. However, because of crazy emissions regulations in some states like California, until now it was practically impossible to own a diesel passenger car. And now that diesel cars have overcome those requirements, there is one more - in most places diesel is considerably more expensive than gasoline, so the benefit is questionable, particularly when you consider the up front cost of diesel car is higher than gasoline-powered car (often significantly higher).

    I enjoyed this video, but there was no mention whatsoever as to the engine of this Q7 TDI. I'm guessing it couldn't be the almighty V12, so was it the V6 or the V8?

    Where did he get diesel being cheaper? Everywhere here in ohio it's generally almost a dollar more per gallon for diesel! Example: today, unleaded=3.30, diesel=4.17!! I will say though I have always been skeptical of VW, but my mom just got a TDI Q7 and I love it, perfect balance of everything! Even handles like her X3 that felt like it had no damping whatsoever.
