+Jason Holtkamp If you saw the revo kit, they add a supercharger belt and pulley, and intake along with software programming. Its very misleading with that little DLC connector because he only used it to change the current tune used by the ECU
I guess all commercial car engines are a bit de-tuned. If you max them out , they woldn´t be as reliable. The tuned engine of the s4 will probably have some problems in the near future.

The S series cars DO have launch control but it's hidden, press and hold the esp button for 5 seconds, put it in sport, foot hard on the brake then hard on the throttle. You'll have 4 seconds of 4k launch mode before it will cut off so you have 4 seconds to launch once punching the throttle. Just lift right off the brake to launch
And more weight, and overheating issues, and moving parts, and more parts to break, and tuning and fuel issues, they have their place but its not the "end all be all" unless you only care about straight line speed.
The S4 B8 was an incredible package from the day it was launched. And by the way Chris, you can re-tune the gearbox software too, it will enable LC and a lot more features, after that it will be faster then the RS4.

The b8.5 comes with launch control, and there are tcu tunes as well. The b8.5 s4 is hands down one of the best daily drivers. Awd so good for all weather, insanely reliable, makes great power and torque, plenty of room, looks great inside, looks great outside too but doesn't draw too much attention which is nice when using daily, AND it actually gets pretty good mileage too. Even with a stage 1 tune I can still get 25 mpg
@@tomhuish7617 The most significant upgrades are the mechatronics issues that haunted the B8, and things like the PCV, Water pump etc that were an issue in the B8, have been revised in the B8.5. I believe the B8.5 to be one of the better variants of German cars for reliability.

I now own this car. Inside stripped and cleaned, all the bodywork corrected and sprayed, wheels re-furbed - now a showroom looking vehicle. It is also now running with the supercharger pully upgrade, airbox and gearbox map.
I've had my s4 remapped with revo and impressed with it but now I'm booking it in for the revo stage 1+ . Did you see a difference to yours when you did it ?
My dad still can’t understand how this works. I’ve tried explaining it to him but he doesn’t understand how you make a combustion engine that much stronger without fiddling with any of the mechanical components. Can you imagine his shock when he found out that newer cars come with much of the features that you didn’t pay for, just need to activate them.
That software isn't cheap. But it's totally worth it. It must be fun blowing people out of the water with what appears to be a normal everyday station-wagon

+mahunik Not a lot unfortunately. RS4 is a NA engine, so tuning potential is extremely limited. Companies quoting more than +10BHP for a stage 1 are probably over estimating..... Adding a pulley upgrade and going Stage 2 on the supercharged V6 gets even more silly...

I also had my 2008 1.8 TSi VW Passat CC tuned by Revo Pros: + Lots more power and a MOUNTAIN load more torque!! It gives the car the power to match its looks, and goes faster than say a Golf GTI now. + Even better fuel consumption than standard while cruising. + Harder/snortier engine note. Cons: - The extra pressure created caused several air leaks in the turbo piping (my car was only 4 years old with 60k miles) and more than a £1000 pounds later trying to get it fixed at various garages.. a leak still pops up somewhere after a few days. The leaking air causes power losses and car jerks under acceleration. I'm depressed and have given up trying to fix it, I just don't accelerate the car hard many more. And no one wants to buy it now. - The Revo remap only runs on RON 98+ Super Unleaded fuel. - Black smoke through exhaust. CONCLUSION: Just buy a fucking BMW 330i or M3!
Sorry to hear that, seems these guys don't bother to tell their customers about the consequences of re-mapping without supporting mods - happy to take peoples money and run I guess. There is nothing wrong with tuning, but to make big power you have to do it right - just changing the factory maps to output this kind of power without adding supporting mods to keep the car healthy is always going to end badly. My advise, find out what other owners of your specific type of vehicle have done, and what problems they have had before you do any tuning. Owners groups are usually the best place to start for advice on what upgrades you need to do before messing with boost and mix.
***** BMW don't sell the 2 series in M trim where I live (not sure if they are ever going to), plus it's too small for my needs - and not keen on Subaru, sure great performance but too ugly on the outside & cheap an nasty feeling on the inside - thus I drive Aussie Ford muscle - loads of power and luxurious enough too.
William, this was a comparison to show how close these 2 cars can be in terms of power output with just a little bit of money/tune thrown at the new 3.0 Supercharged Audi engine. For the small investment needed, an S4 owner with the supercharged power train can end up with NEAR RS4 straight line performance. Any RS owner will likely still frown upon such statistics as there is more to tuning than simple power output. I own a 2010 S5 "Daytona Grey" Coupe (4.2L 8 cylinder) with the 6 spd manual transmission (perhaps 1 or only a handful ever built) and i love my 8 cylinder engine regardless of what tuners can do with the forced induction power plant. My 8 cylinder makes erotic and awesome noises the 6 cylinder could only DREAM about. Tis the wonderful difference between so many of the automobiles we car enthusiasts own...sound, performance, looks, branding, etc. Great video Chris Harris..keep them coming!!!
This is similar to BMW and how they under rate their motors. Take for example the N54 on the 3 series 335i, stock is 300hp, when you had a $479.00 piggy back tune to it, you go up to almost 370hp - just from the tune, not mentioning the down pipes, or the inter cooler or intake. The Germans really know how to squeeze every last bit of performance out of their engines. These are sleeper cars.
Have you seen the 114i? Its the same engine as 118i but stupidly toned down. Just by remap you go from 102 to... 200 BHP!!!!! (my friend did so like 6 months ago and no problems what so ever. The MPG even improved (by only 10-15% but still)

Very interesting video. I have an '02 S6 and after researching OBD plug-in software upgrades, I found that the UNITRONIC (vs. the REVO) software upgrade is able to get 30+ more HP, but a more free flow exhaust is needed...
Being someone that could never afford an RS5, but would love to, at least I can afford the S5 and upgrade it to get the performance of the RS5. I know this video is about S4/RS4 but the same reasoning applies to the B8.5 S5/RS5, which I am a huge fan of :)

I love this episode, I follow this channel and it is the first car channel that takes a look at aftermarket mods. I currently have a flashed mk4 1.8t with 150k miles on it and it is still to this day is plenty quick because of a REVO flash/software. With that being said, I have your next episode! and would love to see this brought to forwishen, come to think of it actually it would be a two part episode, and because of this involving REVO, they may possibly help sponser/jump aboard for this episode. I would also like to see this episode because I'm a recent graduate of a masters program and will be looking for a new car in the sometime near future (so hopefully I will be able to afford cars in this price range). I currently drive a GTI 337 model with revo flash, mk4 r32 interior, wheels and koni suspension. Always been a fan of the GTI and enjoy tuning them because you make them very fast cars at a very affordable price. Or here's the kicker, I've always loved the VW R models especially the R32 3.2 L V-6 but have never owned one, hich are become collector items but at 240hp need a massive turbo upgrade to hang with todays current sport cars. As the new 2015 VW golf R is going to be in the same price range and have the same MQB chassis as the new Audi S-4 I would love to see those two vehicles compared stock, and then compared after both have had a revo software upgrade. I think would make for an exciting episode as well as see what these aftermarket companies are doing. You can compare both vehicles with either their six speed manual or DSG transmissions, doesn't matter to me. but personally I will say I'm getting a little tired of how Volkswagen has stuck with his 2.0 16 valve turbo since 2008 and am missing how it feels/sounds to have a little bit more displacement, so I had been leaning towards the S4 V6T ?! I love what you were doing with Revo. You should continue to prove that with other VAG cars too, for example with GTIs, they go from 210 to 245hp, and even with the poor mans Audi (A4 1.8T) they have it from 180 to 220hp. It is marvelous what Revo, Unitronic, APR and all ECU tuning softwares can do.
The S4 _has_ launch control: - put it in S - switch off the traction control - put your foot on the brake - the other foot on the throttle... I have a 2005 V6 A3 and for me it works like that :-)
Indeed, just because you can do something doesn't mean the stock engineering can deal with it. My car stock had 270kw/550nm, you can change the standard mapping and get 350+ with the standard kit & it'll run fine on pump fuel for a while, but if you don't add some supporting mods in - bigger intercooler, uprated injectors, cat-back exhaust as a minimum, you are not going to have a reliable car any more. Generally OEM turbo setups have a little bit of overhead in them, but if you push them this far without supporting mods, something has to give sooner or later. This was filmed over a year ago - I wonder if the car is still running?
Every single video that includes something related to Audi there's 90% of BMW and Mercedes fans saying that their fav. automaker is "way better than Audi" and I'm quite getting tired of it, most of them come from places like the U.S., where Audi isn't really known for what it is, I've had the chance of driving a 535i (it handled nice but it was like if it's engine wasn't there) and a MBenz E350 (I have to confess that it was a really nice car) but the Audi A6 is the one I kept, it has lot of safety features and lots of technology. For all those who are saying RWD > AWD I reply to them "Really? did you even get your car to its limiter? how many times when you are driving on the road did you exceed 200 kph? And why would you even need so much acceleration? (FYI 2014 Audi A6 3.0T does 0-60 in 5.7s when the 535i (non xDrive) does 5.9 s) Search youtube for Nose - Tush or even standard drag races between an A6 and a 535i, then come back and comment. I know this has nothing to do with this video, it just grinds my gears

My question is, they changed the internals of the 3.0 SC engine in 2012 from the previous versions right? (at least in the Audi A6) Is it safe to do something like this with my 2010 Audi A6 with the older internals? Also what would the cost be? Also I thought you needed an intake and a pulley to get this performance, or is that optional for even more? (and why wouldn't you considering those Im sure cost less than the software mod)
I look on compares to this, a company in Sweden that use MTM tune say the stage 1 tune from them give the S4 100hp+ and 100nm torque for around 1000€, also included is a gearbox strengthening if you dont have manual and they take away the 155mph speed limiter.
B7 RS4 with the 4.2 v8 is my dream car. So beautiful! Has giant 8 piston carbon ceramics up front stock, 6speed manual and is extremely responsive to bolt ons and tune.
As a driver of an even further tuned S4, I was really happy to see those impressive numbers of the chip only. I can say that a pulley upgrade + bolt-ons will get that engine even further. About 500 at the crank are easily doable with relatively small effort.

IF you compare the normal audi a4, to the S4 its an insane car. Its the same, but alot more horsepower. A4's are common, very common. The S4 you dont see much, they are kinda rare. Thats because they are so fucking expensive. At least in Norway.

wonder if that car had a full tune up before the ECU mod? Could have had a dirty air filter etc. Would possiblu damage the motor

There is nothing wrong with tuning, but to make big power you have to do it right - just changing the factory maps to output this kind of power without adding supporting mods to keep the car healthy is always going to end badly.
My advise, find out what other owners of your specific type of vehicle have done, and what problems they have had before you do any tuning. Owners groups are usually the best place to start for advice on what upgrades you need to do before messing with boost and mix.
***** BMW don't sell the 2 series in M trim where I live (not sure if they are ever going to), plus it's too small for my needs - and not keen on Subaru, sure great performance but too ugly on the outside & cheap an nasty feeling on the inside - thus I drive Aussie Ford muscle - loads of power and luxurious enough too.
Well - next time tune a car with a more sturdy block - like the 3.0 TFSI. :D

William, this was a comparison to show how close these 2 cars can be in terms of power output with just a little bit of money/tune thrown at the new 3.0 Supercharged Audi engine. For the small investment needed, an S4 owner with the supercharged power train can end up with NEAR RS4 straight line performance.
Any RS owner will likely still frown upon such statistics as there is more to tuning than simple power output.
I own a 2010 S5 "Daytona Grey" Coupe (4.2L 8 cylinder) with the 6 spd manual transmission (perhaps 1 or only a handful ever built) and i love my 8 cylinder engine regardless of what tuners can do with the forced induction power plant. My 8 cylinder makes erotic and awesome noises the 6 cylinder could only DREAM about.
Tis the wonderful difference between so many of the automobiles we car enthusiasts own...sound, performance, looks, branding, etc.

This is similar to BMW and how they under rate their motors. Take for example the N54 on the 3 series 335i, stock is 300hp, when you had a $479.00 piggy back tune to it, you go up to almost 370hp - just from the tune, not mentioning the down pipes, or the inter cooler or intake. The Germans really know how to squeeze every last bit of performance out of their engines. These are sleeper cars.
actually BMW rates accurately. If you pout them on a dyno. Mercedes and Audi underrate them on paper. Do some reading its interesting.
Have you seen the 114i? Its the same engine as 118i but stupidly toned down.
Just by remap you go from 102 to... 200 BHP!!!!! (my friend did so like 6 months ago and no problems what so ever. The MPG even improved (by only 10-15% but still)

Very interesting video. I have an '02 S6 and after researching OBD plug-in software upgrades, I found that the UNITRONIC (vs. the REVO) software upgrade is able to get 30+ more HP, but a more free flow exhaust is needed...

Being someone that could never afford an RS5, but would love to, at least I can afford the S5 and upgrade it to get the performance of the RS5. I know this video is about S4/RS4 but the same reasoning applies to the B8.5 S5/RS5, which I am a huge fan of :)

My point is that I work for my money, therefore what I spend it on is valuable to me, therefore I look after my stuff. I suspect that the original owner of this car may not have valued what they have because they did not have to work for it.

I love this episode, I follow this channel and it is the first car channel that takes a look at aftermarket mods. I currently have a flashed mk4 1.8t with 150k miles on it and it is still to this day is plenty quick because of a REVO flash/software. With that being said, I have your next episode! and would love to see this brought to forwishen, come to think of it actually it would be a two part episode, and because of this involving REVO, they may possibly help sponser/jump aboard for this episode. I would also like to see this episode because I'm a recent graduate of a masters program and will be looking for a new car in the sometime near future (so hopefully I will be able to afford cars in this price range). I currently drive a GTI 337 model with revo flash, mk4 r32 interior, wheels and koni suspension. Always been a fan of the GTI and enjoy tuning them because you make them very fast cars at a very affordable price. Or here's the kicker, I've always loved the VW R models especially the R32 3.2 L V-6 but have never owned one, hich are become collector items but at 240hp need a massive turbo upgrade to hang with todays current sport cars. As the new 2015 VW golf R is going to be in the same price range and have the same MQB chassis as the new Audi S-4 I would love to see those two vehicles compared stock, and then compared after both have had a revo software upgrade. I think would make for an exciting episode as well as see what these aftermarket companies are doing. You can compare both vehicles with either their six speed manual or DSG transmissions, doesn't matter to me. but personally I will say I'm getting a little tired of how Volkswagen has stuck with his 2.0 16 valve turbo since 2008 and am missing how it feels/sounds to have a little bit more displacement, so I had been leaning towards the S4 V6T ?! If neither car suits me just have to buy something and build it myself as I've done in the past (my first car was a VW MK2 with a 2.9 L the 12v V6 engine) or by piece of crap and hold out for an old-school Porsche 911 or BMW E30 ; ) 0h well!! enjoy your channel and Chris you have a dream job! take care and thanks...

I love what you were doing with Revo. You should continue to prove that with other VAG cars too, for example with GTIs, they go from 210 to 245hp, and even with the poor mans Audi (A4 1.8T) they have it from 180 to 220hp.
It is marvelous what Revo, Unitronic, APR and all ECU tuning softwares can do.

- put it in S
- switch off the traction control
- put your foot on the brake
- the other foot on the throttle...

Indeed, just because you can do something doesn't mean the stock engineering can deal with it. My car stock had 270kw/550nm, you can change the standard mapping and get 350+ with the standard kit & it'll run fine on pump fuel for a while, but if you don't add some supporting mods in - bigger intercooler, uprated injectors, cat-back exhaust as a minimum, you are not going to have a reliable car any more. Generally OEM turbo setups have a little bit of overhead in them, but if you push them this far without supporting mods, something has to give sooner or later. This was filmed over a year ago - I wonder if the car is still running?
I've done APR tuning on a MKIV 1.8T Jetta, B6 1.8T A4 and a B7 2.0T A4 and never had a problem with any of them

Every single video that includes something related to Audi there's 90% of BMW and Mercedes fans saying that their fav. automaker is "way better than Audi" and I'm quite getting tired of it, most of them come from places like the U.S., where Audi isn't really known for what it is, I've had the chance of driving a 535i (it handled nice but it was like if it's engine wasn't there) and a MBenz E350 (I have to confess that it was a really nice car) but the Audi A6 is the one I kept, it has lot of safety features and lots of technology. For all those who are saying RWD > AWD I reply to them "Really? did you even get your car to its limiter? how many times when you are driving on the road did you exceed 200 kph? And why would you even need so much acceleration? (FYI 2014 Audi A6 3.0T does 0-60 in 5.7s when the 535i (non xDrive) does 5.9 s)
Search youtube for Nose - Tush or even standard drag races between an A6 and a 535i, then come back and comment.

My question is, they changed the internals of the 3.0 SC engine in 2012 from the previous versions right? (at least in the Audi A6)
Is it safe to do something like this with my 2010 Audi A6 with the older internals? Also what would the cost be? Also I thought you needed an intake and a pulley to get this performance, or is that optional for even more? (and why wouldn't you considering those Im sure cost less than the software mod)
I look on compares to this, a company in Sweden that use MTM tune say the stage 1 tune from them give the S4 100hp+ and 100nm torque for around 1000€, also included is a gearbox strengthening if you dont have manual and they take away the 155mph speed limiter.

B7 RS4 with the 4.2 v8 is my dream car. So beautiful! Has giant 8 piston carbon ceramics up front stock, 6speed manual and is extremely responsive to bolt ons and tune.

As a driver of an even further tuned S4, I was really happy to see those impressive numbers of the chip only.
I can say that a pulley upgrade + bolt-ons will get that engine even further. About 500 at the crank are easily doable with relatively small effort.

IF you compare the normal audi a4, to the S4 its an insane car. Its the same, but alot more horsepower. A4's are common, very common. The S4 you dont see much, they are kinda rare. Thats because they are so fucking expensive. At least in Norway.
