I'm sure everyone here already mentioned; no. The water pump is not a supercharger off job. Leave it on, remove the two coolant pipes that go vertically and the belts. One doesn't necessarily say the other is failing. 44k miles and the water pump went, thermostat is fine and is staying in. PCV and thermostat? Yes. Good video all around.
just asking is okay a audi q7 tfsi 2014 please ay want to buy ???
People here might think I'm an audi hater. I assure you I'm not. I had an audi a6 that I loved but one thing that car was not was reliable. People always talk about reliability as if it connected to taste. Until you learn to be impartial with brands. You won't really now what reliability is. That was my case. I've owned Mazda, Audi, Toyota, Honda, mitsubishi etc. And I know it's all anecdotal. But I've save so much money since I switched to Toyota it's insane. Most Toyota cars are not fun. It's quite a bummer. But damn they are reliable. My audi was comfy, luxurious, fun and started conversations with others all the time. I get that. But I was suffering financially because of it. Both of my Toyota cars now have almost 200 thousand miles and all I do is fluid changes, tires and filters. And I live in a state where we get rough winters. And not a spot with rust. I'm not against fun cars or anything. I've dreamed about buying a gtr since I was like 10 years old but I'm so glad that I finally know what true reliability really is. And the money I've saved OMG. I guess this time and age. You have to choose between reliability and fun. Just saying. I hope this comment helps others out there.
so this engine is good? or no 2014
These cars are for singles with a good pay stable job, or mechanically incline people. Parts are expensive and if you use cheap parts you create other issues in the car.
True before I have gti all the time problems now I have my camry 3.5 it's saw saw saw reliable and its saw powerful for people think its slow it's true I smach many good car in the road and I keep my money in my pocket if you need sam think you motivated you go to you tube and put camry v6 vs mustang 5.0 and you understand and thank you for your honesty I like my car more 😊
Nothing beats Toyota reliability, there is no other car brand I would say that can match up to Toyota reliability, Honda is probably the closest it gets to Toyota reliability
My Toyota aristo, hiace (2rz) and 89 Toyota pickup all have done nothing but be reliable to me. ❤
I'm looking to buy a b8.5 S4 in the future and your videos are the most informative videos I can find on them, really helpful stuff. Thanks!
Excellent review from a well educated owner and not a mechanic. Great to watch as this is very likely the motor that I will seek in my next Audi. I do know a fair amount about them already, but your advice sure gives more insight. Thanks!
Excellent content! Just made a check list to go over as I am going to view a 2013 Q7 premium. Thanks again! Have my list ready if I buy the car I will be following the maintenance you mentioned!
Owner of a S4 B8 Avant with manual gearbox and 125.000km on the clock. Since I live in Germany, everything is expensive as hell to get fixed. At 115.000km I had to do the timing chain and also replaced the clutch on that occasion (6800€ bill), replaced the front wheel bearings, and now I guess I have to get the clutch pedal master cylinder replaced. On the maintenance side, I replaced all driving belts, water pump, gearbox oil, spark plugs, and brake pads and disks. 10 years later the design still looks good...
Does your motor consume any oil or have to top up?
@@ozaudi9953 cca. 0.8L/10.000km oil consumption
A heap of shite
Good vid. Temp, Thermostat, and coolant tank at 80k miles. Then suspension components - Bushings will likely go if you live in cities with rough roads, as well as your shocks - at 70k, you'll feel it. At 90k you'll definitely feel it. With this, your lower, upper control arms at front, then various other suspension components depending on where you live (I live in a city with terrible roads with speed bumps in the highway).
Overall, this car is very low maintenance. The Iridium plugs should last up to 60k miles, but it can go well - never had a misfire on my car. Oil will start burning off - likely need head gasket replaced.
Plan this out and you can save some money on the work you need done.
I’m looking at one that runs great but found multiple misfires pending. Not sure if this can just be spark plugs and air filter/ tune up items. Is it probable this will resolve? Most importantly what are the most common culprits
Thanks. I actually watched this to precaution against what else I have to replace on my a7. Well.. I've experienced all the problems you mentioned and replaced the whole lot. That's good news.
How much did it cost you too replace everything ?

Thanks for the insight brother, doing some research before I buy my mom's 2015 a6 s-line. Only 52k on the odometer but it has developed a nasty oil leak, just gonna give her a good once over and hit the problem areas you mentioned.

Great video. I have 95 K on a 2017 I think I 'll take mine in to change all those out.
hey man thank you for this info. Ive got a 2013 B8.5 S4 Avant here in New Zealand 8 years in ive done pcv t stat and water pump. The only major stuff i love my S4 such a great car.
Great video. But I thought you said you'd mention a few things about the DSG transmission. Heard and read a lot of issue about it (DL501). The stories make me more scared of the transmission than the engine.
Great video man! Looking at all these issues in the next week since I have a 3,000 mile warranty to take advantage of!
Good luck with claiming on warranty work!
How did you get on ?
I’ve had my 2017 A7 for a few months and my service adviser just told me today it needs a new water pump and motor mounts. This vid is spot on !

I wanna get one ina a year or two I started working at Audi so I already saw some of this coming but I feel pretty confident I can keep it running
I'm looking to buy an A6 C6 3.0Tfsi, good content, thanks. Probably i'll replace waterpump and pcv at begining maybe chain and belts too. Is there any known issue about oil consumption like 2.0tfsi's ? Is Pistons reliable ? I had 4 Total engine rebuilds last 5 years, 2 of them A4 b8 and my Honda fk2. Audi had bad rebuilds and Honda had bad software which knocks at boost. I dont want again a engine rebuild adventure.
Have a 2009 3.0T. Belt blew out on me 2 weeks ago and ended up changing pretty much the entire assembly (tensioner, harmonic balancer which had the rubber lining practically falling apart throughout, idler pulley). Went ahead and did the same w the supercharger belt. Got just about 115k as well so heads up to anyone coming up on that was quite the hassle
how much did it cost to fix?
Is the work to clean the secondary air injection ports covered by Audi if you get a CEL for codes P0491 and P0492 together at the same time?
nice videos . is like describe my car issues exactly in order. . . .. already changed PCV, coolant pump , engine mounts , and also tensioners .. . . i don't know if common or not but i have a little Shock when changing gears 1.2..3 at low rpm and Audi suggest that is clutch . now i think this is not common especially that car has 135.000 km . anyway thanks for video if any other issues glad to find out. my car is an Audi A6 Allroad 2016 TFSi .

Thanks, this is a great help!
Hey just wanna say great video just subscribed to your channel I’ll be watching your videos. Looking to get a Audi s7 or a7 pretty mechanically inclined just don’t know what platform is going to be the most reliable.
Great info, thank you.
I am looking at A7 55 tfsi as their value dropped quite a lot. Is it worth buying or will I be working overtime just for repairs? Any info on this specifical car?
Is there any chance you can do a similiar video on the BBK V8 engine in b6/7 S4?
Any problems with the stock crankcase pulley?
A6 2015 2L supercharged consumed oil (class action suit) and then catastrophic failure of the engine. So common it’s very hard to get one to replace it with. I was dedicated to maintenance. The engines are defective.
I loved my Audi. I’d never get one again!
You are the man. So smart.
Usually software issue. Pretty sturdy trans.DSG
Good stuff, thanks!
Hello I’m looking into buying one tonight. How was pricing on maintenance. Is it fair? Expensive?
Subbed. Great video, thank you
Question I changed the separator and I put it all back together and now fuel is dumping. You have any idea where this could come from?
Hello. I loved your video and the car.
I am close to buying 2017 sportback S5 TFSI but it has 98,000 miles (158K km) on it. Would you say it is reliable enough to buy it even now ? I know its important who had it before but i dont know, its a random used car dealership. Thank you
I’ve owned the S4 for a couple yesrs now problem free as I speak but would like to say I much prefer the super charged engine to turbo as there’s no lag and with a stage 1 tune the thing really pulls with low down torque it’s a great all rounder, prior to owning the s4 I had a golf R which was fast but hated the turbo lag, if your thinking of buying one go for it and don’t be worried about buying one with a tune on it already the engine can hold the extra power no problem but you might want to upgrade the brakes
great video bro 👌
Switched from a 2016 Honda CRV with 105k to a 2016 Audi Q5 3.0t which now has 74k. Audi is now in the shop for a fuel pump issue. $1200 approx. Owned the Honda since 39k miles and only had a cracked vaccuum intake seal issue and a fan issue. After Audi is fixed this time may trade up for another CRV.
Informative video - thanks. You didn’t mention any issues with catalytic converter‘s for these engines. I’ve done a little bit of research and seen quite a bit of discussion on the subject. I’ve been noticing a rattle when decelerating just before the engine shifts into the next lower gear (on a b8.5 S4 with 126 km or 78k miles on it). I thought it might be a rusty exhaust bracket or something of the like, but couldn’t find anything like that. I was thinking it might be the cats that are starting to fall apart inside, and that’s when I noticed all the pinned discussion points on catalytic converters. What is your experience in this area?
From what I understand the cats are located right next to the exhaust manifolds. They're a pain to get to. Chances are if you are only experiencing a rattle on acceleration, it could be the flex pipe next the exhaust that has worned out or ripped. I recommend checking that area first before pulling the cats out. If you aren't on a tune then you should be okay. Also check the PCV valve as well. If that fails, oil might get into the exhaust too and could wear it out too.
It’s the flex pipe, mines done it for a few months now and I thought it was cats, but the flex pipe is prone to tearing. Look up some videos of it it’ll probably be exactly what’s wrong
Hi, did you solve it? I have a similar sound while decelerating from about 30km
@@danieltene2048 yes, it was the flex pipes. Sadly, there are no aftermarket options, unless you go to much simplified system (ie louder). So, I think that the parts alone were CDN$1800.
I have a 2010 model s4 b8, had random missfires, so I decided to change the pcv as a few forums said that could be the issue, it was a big mission, ended up changing a few broken pipes, original pcv was and thermostat where fine, but it was in bits so I replaced them anyway £350, my random missfires turned out to be blocked cats.
Could you tell me at roughly what mileage were the cats when they started to cause your misfiring issue please?
Great info! Looking at s like 3.0 and has multiple misfires pending although can’t tell driving. Any other symptoms or codes? And was it the final fix?
I just change my pcv, water pump, thermostat, and did a carbon cleaning. I highly recommend when you are doing all those things to change a $4 gasket (ELRING 236060) that connects the oil filter canister to the engine. Mine was leaking a lot of oil and it's a LOT easier to get to with the supercharger off. IMO if you take the supercharger off you should replace this gasket.
Where did you order all of these and how much did it cost you? My gf has this car and the alternator went out. It's leaking some oil and the water pump and thermostat hasn't been an issue but I wanted to get ahead of it and replace it.
I've got a 3.0 q5 and I need to replace the rear hatch. Any advice or should I make the insurance claim and let audi do it for 6k? I can find the hatches all day long for 500 ide just have to paint it.. .. .
My S5 began having a coolant leak not long after purchase hard to diagnose. Finally found it was a cracked water pump that was only leaking when cold as the heat expanding the metal would seal the hole and release when cold 🙃
how much did it cost to have fixed?
@@SkinnySkinch for me was warranty excess of 110£ warranty covered the other I think 300 odd. This is at a garage with 80£ an hour labour costs in the UK
wat you think is good engine? or no. ay want to buy a audi q7 2014 3.0 tfsi ?
Would’ve been probably 2k at least lol
You're the man! 👍👍👍
What is the mileage that the water pump failure may occur?
How about the chains? Are they considered as a common problem?
Hello, great video, i am looking for an S5, I know that many of these car have oil consumption problems, very high consumption. I read is because the thermosta had caused overheating and in many cases the Audi did changed the pistons. So do you think if I put a refurbished engine with new pistons this will happena again even if the thermostat is ok? Do you think is a bad engineering of the engine block itself ?
im looking for an s5 myuself too
Late response but yes the thermostat overheats constantly due to bad positioning and poor quality, many have used aftermarket thermostat and thermostat housings and have seen a decrease in oil consumption but still had signs of some pretty heavy consumption, most Audis do this besides a few older models. The transmission tends to leak too and ECS Tuning has an almost oem replacement kit for like $200-$300 with better gaskets and bolts. Many of the fails with Audi products are that they are owned by VW so they use cheap wiring, gaskets, and a lot of plastics where metal would’ve definitely been needed. So expect some gasket changes and if you keep using oem thermostat it’ll just keep burning up. You could fabricate it and move it farther from the block. But the readings will be slightly off
Hello there nice explanation on everything. I just replaced the pcv/ crankcase valve on my 2017 audi Q7 3.0t. After putting everything back together I got a check engine light and a p2014 code. Any idea if I forgot to connect anything. Thanks.

Very informative video. beside the subject, it sounds like this engine or car needs way more care than the other brands. I have been interested b8 S4 but it seems like it is not a good choice. I am scared to own one now as it could be Auchi S4, not Audi S4.
I wouldn't say 'way more care'. They are more reliable than most smaller VW/Audi motors such as the 2.0t. Definitely more reliable than a BMW n54, and I would say notably better than an N55 too. I dont think there are any other comparable mid-tier euro performance cars out there which are more reliable than a B8.5 S4. Yes Lexus/Infiniti will be but then you are compromising on practicality, dynamics, and most would say looks.
Don’t think like that or you’ll never buy a car full stop! I can tell you now, I have a beautiful S5 coupe, 2012 with 116k on the clock, I came from a Peugeot 308 GTI, which is literally a nightmare to maintain as everything comes from France. Start with checking fuel injectors and spark plugs
@Inimbrium check the crank pulley IMO. Had faced a similar issue. The OE pulley is a two piece unit- outer part is a rubber insulation thingy, and the core contains the pulley. This 2 piece design is prone to failure with age, use and abuse. Mine failed, the belts got misaligned and started rubbing against each other.. tearing up in the process.
Fuel pump or air intake sensor failing ...
Fuel injectors or spark plugs would be my guess. Could also be shit fuel
Thank you all for replies. I will check all of those!

It's everyone's choice at the end of the day.
