REAL DEAL No but I know you can do this with the Volvo XC90. I used to own an 2017 XC90 but it had lots of reliability issues so I traded it in for a Q7. It’s been 2 years of ownership and no single issue. 2020 model is already arriving, not sure if you still would love the 2015- 2019 model
I bought one 6 months ago and although it's not the perfect car, I prefer it over the 3 Range Rovers I've owned and my wife's Discovery 4. I actually planned to buy a 2016 Range Rover sport but was so disappointed after test driving it, I tried the Q7. The Q7 was a far superior drive, hence my decision to buy it.

As an American (read: brash) family living in the UK who wanted something fast, it was perfect for us. Also, unpopular opinion - I really loved the styling 😂
Jo Kos The xc90 Can fit 7 people easily. Me and my mates, all in their early twenties, took it for a trip... don’t know about the x5, but the xc90 is perfect
@@gangigooga7710 I believe the X5 had a third row as an option, and not many people bought them. Around 2018 there were speculations that BMW was going to drop the third row option from the X5 because of the new at the time X7. I don't know if they actually did.

Great review. Ended up buying a 2013 TDI that was traded into my dealer by the original owners and so far I’m loving it. I would rather have a range rover too BUT I would rather have a car on my drive and not being repaired FYI I run a 59 plate Q7 4.2 V8 tdi . I have run it for 2 years and 36 thousand miles most of it towing a 2800kg trailer. It is fantastic , without the trailer it will do 25 mpg (even seen 30 once !) . with the trailer at about 5.5 tons total i still get 16-18 mpg . Reliability wise bearing in mind I have run it from 11-13 years old I have changed 1 battery (15 mins not 2 hours to change) just done discs and pads all round at £300 the lot . Front tyres last 25k miles for a £100 a tyre chinese brand, rears about 15k miles. oil changes at 6k miles (9k advised) £120 for 10 litres of castrol and filter . Bose Sound system is amazing , On air suspension it just floats over bumps and can drop the rear to get under my trailer hitch, with the reverse camera it is so easy. With 340 bhp I cruise without ever struggling . In short I love it, had Land rovers all my life and will never go back , and yes it does not have a low box but with 4wd , auto and 340 bhp , i have never got stuck on grass even with the 2.8 ton trailer !
Get all the work done at an independant garage and only get the things done that affect driving and safety and it works out quite cheap. Lovely internal size for lugging everything around with the driving characteristics of a car (big car). Ive had Q7's for 10 years and keep on getting them. pre '15 looks a bit dated inside but cost value is excellent.

You need the 3.0 diesel it’s pretty reliable gets great gas mileage. Has issues of its own but engine wise out of all of the Audi engines 3.0 tdi is reliable and you get more for your money
i own a 2007 q7 and coming from an xc90 to this audi doesnt compare, audi is a premium level car and thats easy to forget untill you sit in one and compare others plus in my limited edition version my mmi came with freeview tv tuner built in which is excellent when sitting waiting for the kids on the school run 😀
One of my best friends from uni drove us from London to Paris in a Q7 years ago. They are super comfortable in an RV kind of way. I miss my road trips to France 😢
One thing with diesel cars is, you can buy diesel in bulk as long (obviously) you have somewhere to put the say 2000 litre tank, think my mate paid £1.05 per litre buying in bulk, usually the more you buy the greater the savings, instead of £1.35 at the pump. so over £2000 initial outlay, and you get to fill up at home. :)
@@SuperFIFTHGEAR sorry, just seen your message, I presume you can, or the delivery company would not deliver in bulk to the house. As for your other question, you obviously save say 30p on every litre of diesel you buy. so it's not like you buying a new car and paying a say 5k premium to get a diesel. In which case your question would be valid. :) If I have misunderstood your question I'm obviously having a blond moment. :)
Personally I would avoid not just the pre 2009, but avoid the Mk1 altogether and wait until you can afford the Mk2 which came out 2015 onwards. Much cheaper to run. They managed to loose 350kg of weight too on the Mk2. Do not underestimate how much old SUV's can consume in repair, maintenance and general running costs. Recently bought a 2017 example.
Great informative video. I’ve been binge watching a load of your videos and you’ve got yourself a new subscriber. I really appreciate your honest view and vast knowledge of vehicles. Im wondering if you can give some advice in my quest to buying a new family SUV. I’m looking for a nice Q7 and under the £9k price bracket. I’ve driven 7 Audi’s over the past 10 years, including Q5, SQ5, A7 and I love the driving experience. I’ve compared to the Q7 to X5, Touareg, Range Rover etc but always come back to the Q7. I’ve also watched your videos on said vehicles. They all have their common individual faults/problems, and I understand that realistically there is always a risk when buying a second hand used vehicle. I am only aiming to use the vehicle for a couple of years. I have found a 2008 Q7, with 90,000 miles, a full service history and apparently used by a large family, which may indicate the type of use (carefully driven perhaps). It’s advertised as £8,499 and looks in really great condition. Based on the limited information and considering the risks of buying a 15 year old vehicle, would this vehicle be a good buy and at a fair price, please? Or alternatively, would you suggest any of other SUV’s instead? I understand the cost to maintain and repair any of the above can be costly, but I’m just wondering which one would be more economical long term. Many thanks
I have to comment, years of viewing so called reviews are learning nothing this site and host are a breath of needed fresh air. The facts are if you want to know how a new car will serve you then check a used model. Brillent
Get a VW Touareg 3.0 TDI instead. I've just bought one and it's awesome! 34 mpg and it goes like stink! Save money, just by getting the VW badge. It's the same vehicle, but parts are cheaper and off-road, it's better than the Audi. 57 plate onwards. The stereo BTW, is amazing! :)
Reviews of everyday cars...although here you bashed the Q7 which was is a total success for Audi. Just in Europe over 400000 sold since launch and that for a high end vehicle is awesome...I personally love the looks and did see once the awesome V12 Q7 what a beast..way ahead of it's time to all the Mega SUV's today.
Such a good review, I am a huge Audi fan, and its a good balanced review on a car that I love to hate, A6 all road is better or A6 line 3.0D C6 or C7 sline. I like a Q7 but the later model but it does now look dated. well done chap keep up a great work.
I like your honesty, I am used to driving large cars but the doors would be a problem I could see my self trying to clamber through the back to get in at a car park but I really like the interior of the car
I just test drove a 4.2 diesel q7 today, it drives beautiful and has awesome power. I won’t be buying it because I’m looking for something a bit more off road capable, but for the price it’s an un rivalled family lifestyle vehicle
Nice review ,seems like a lot of car for the money .I agree on the looks but after a few second hand Range rovers i need some reliability in a daily driver. Thanks 10 thumbs up .
I sell garage doors for a living, so i get to see many owners with '' nice cars'', and i always ask them for their experiences of it. Chap in slough has a Q7 2014 plate from new, 29000 miles, says he has had no issues except.. he's on his FOURTH set of tyres! Remember you have to change all four!.
At 66000 miles, just fitted the third ever set of tyres, kept the tyres at the highest pressure stated for carrying heavy passenger or towing loads, it gets driven fairly hard too.
I think than is a nice SUV, with very good boots space, even with the 3rd seats up, perfect for big families. Maybe isn't the best for Off-Road, but for City Vehicle it is good
Good work again mate ....however when you get a chance I have a wish list for you .....can you review Mitsubishi l200 or Shogun ,Volvo s60 ,Subaru *anyone*, Suzuki swift sport, Mazda 3 and jaguar f pace please thanks !!!
Are you going to review the old style kia sportarge keen to know your thoughts I have driven hundreds of them when I worked at the main pdi centre for kia in Lincolnshire
The facelift model has got led front day running lights and road tax on the facelift 2010 > is £300. The reliability on the q7 is far superior than that of the range rovers. I ve had a Range Rover sport 2010 and 2016, they nothing but trouble ,Transmission and electrics and their customer service is dreadful.
Note that timing chains have plastic guides in order to avoid metal on metal contact. Unfortunately this creates a weak point and if the timing chain breaks, it is a catastrophic failure.
I bought an optioned demonstrator with the 200kw diesel in January and I dig it. I’m in Australia though and twice a week I do a 700km round trip on a rural highway, so maybe having a bit of room around you helps
Another honest and detailed review of a car we might all have 'considered' buying, onscreen or in real life (mainly onscreen). Engine out job for a timing chain replacement? What?! It's off our wish list! Thanks for so many great vids from you HPA, looking forward to the next one.
Another good review. I'm always interested in SUV reviews to see how opinions compare with my Merc GL. In common with the GL, you noted the Q7 has vague steering and the battery under the driver's seat (bloody awkward and heavy to lift out - ask me how I know). The GL has far more room for the 3rd row passengers - comfy even for adults. Both have ridiculously small boot spaces with the 3rd row seats available but massive space with them laid flat, and van-like space with the 2nd row laid flat too. Smaller wheels are so much better. Mine has 21" wheels which look great but there are limited options for tyres and they simply don't ride as well as the smaller ones. Air suspension is epically amazing in both and not at all unreliable if you consider getting replacement compressors and airbags from anyone other than a main dealer. Even coil springs break on such heavy cars (my old ML broke two sets of rears). The 3-litre V6 diesel in the Q7 is quieter than in the GL, and the Q7 in general drives ore "car-like" than the GL. The X5 is similarly more car-like than the ML. Mercedes builds more "truck-like" SUVs it seems. However the GL can be had with height adjustable suspension, low range and diff lockers - all of which are on mine. The Q7 clearly wasn't aimed at exactly the same market, nevertheless I would contend that all of these SUVs can be made more useful off road by shoeing them with gnarlier tyres. I intend to prove this in Feb 2020 by taking a few different sorts of big SUVs to the Arctic circle to play in the snow.
@@kasiosag Kind of. I took 3 cameras with me and shot various angles here and there but I was travelling alone, and didn't do any commentary. I intended to splice it all together into a short 5-8 mins video. I'll pull my finger out and get that done.

I think it’s an attractive design. It’s a proper blended design for an SUV!
Mate
I've watched almost all your vids in the past few days I'm addicted.
I'm after an e class so watched that then it's spiralled out of control...
You should be a presenter as apposed to a dealer...
But both is good too
Thanks for watching. I would love to do that and give up the day job! :)
I own Q7 (2012) and it’s superb
Audi Q7 3.0 TDI 170 S Line best buy worthy alternative to Porsche Cayenne S and VW Touareg my favourite SUV'S of all time.
Lmao when she spilled drink over the circuit board, I took it apart got a new one from eBay for 27 bucks and replaced it my self flawlessly and never failed since cheap hacks lmao play smart don’t do dealer always they rape your bank account
RUclips rocks to fix your car!!
Thank you, great reveiws.
First caught your channel few months ago when you did your cv 😉
Take it as a compliment, but your as polished as a top gear presenter 😂
Subscribed 😊
Haha thank you
I just got my gear box service (jaguar XJ) after your recommendation 😁. Thanks for the knowledge
Good stuff! :)
I’ve just got a cheap 2007 model with 7 seats I’ve owned range rovers shoguns and pick ups I think the Audi looks bang on
For how much
You need the 3.0 diesel it’s pretty reliable gets great gas mileage. Has issues of its own but engine wise out of all of the Audi engines 3.0 tdi is reliable and you get more for your money
Please do a future video on the Pug RCZ, I’m obsessed with that car right now.
Are you a hairdresser.??
stringer 2295 No, Why are you ?
stringer 2295 😂😂😂
The battery change is not a 2 hour job as he said, it took me 20 minutes, same on the Cayyene and Toureg.
Touareg battery under the seat, lots of work so not a 20 minute job
You're a natural at this Matt - well done. And I recognise some of the roads you're on ( going down into Buxton)
A Driver Thank you!
i own a 2007 q7 and coming from an xc90 to this audi doesnt compare, audi is a premium level car and thats easy to forget untill you sit in one and compare others plus in my limited edition version my mmi came with freeview tv tuner built in which is excellent when sitting waiting for the kids on the school run 😀
One of my best friends from uni drove us from London to Paris in a Q7 years ago. They are super comfortable in an RV kind of way. I miss my road trips to France 😢
Me too
@@HighPeakAutos I love driving from London to France on a Friday night but for now a drive to the beautiful English coast will always hit the spot 😊
My girlfriend had this car but got the new model but honestly this one is better even though I don't like either q7's
I've got a Lexus 4.3 V8 swap on my '11 Q7, and boy is that thing quick! Absolutely love it
One thing with diesel cars is, you can buy diesel in bulk as long (obviously) you have somewhere to put the say 2000 litre tank, think my mate paid £1.05 per litre buying in bulk, usually the more you buy the greater the savings, instead of £1.35 at the pump. so over £2000 initial outlay, and you get to fill up at home. :)
Can you store that much at your house, though? How long until that £2K has paid for itself also..
Mate. , you proved that reviewing something is an art .
Many thanks
Q7 an absolute monster of a car 👌and yeah I’d like one 👍
I have to comment, years of viewing so called reviews are learning nothing this site and host are a breath of needed fresh air. The facts are if you want to know how a new car will serve you then check a used model. Brillent
Thank you! I appreciate it :)
k sturmer I’ve had a 2013 Touareg, I was impressed with it!
@@HighPeakAutos I'm still impressed by your RUclips channel! Keep that shit up, it's great! 🔥 🎶 😎 👌 💖
They are popular and have sold well. Everytime I get one in stock they sell fairly well but I dont get the appeal.
@@HighPeakAutos fair enough not for all!
Such a good review, I am a huge Audi fan, and its a good balanced review on a car that I love to hate, A6 all road is better or A6 line 3.0D C6 or C7 sline. I like a Q7 but the later model but it does now look dated. well done chap keep up a great work.
Thanks!
I like your honesty, I am used to driving large cars but the doors would be a problem I could see my self trying to clamber through the back to get in at a car park but I really like the interior of the car
Another quality review. Great work, kept it up 👍
Thanks!
Shogun then👍
I sell garage doors for a living, so i get to see many owners with '' nice cars'', and i always ask them for their experiences of it. Chap in slough has a Q7 2014 plate from new, 29000 miles, says he has had no issues except.. he's on his FOURTH set of tyres! Remember you have to change all four!.
They do chew through tyres
At 66000 miles, just fitted the third ever set of tyres, kept the tyres at the highest pressure stated for carrying heavy passenger or towing loads, it gets driven fairly hard too.
Please review the Audi A7. Loving the videos.
ch4nfu I’ve never had one of those but when I do I’ll get one done
Do a review of a pickup truck: Isuzu Dmax (please) / Toyota Hilux / Nissan Navara / Mitsubishi L200
I can't even afford to drive but I still watch these vids. Great channel.
Ari Thanks
I think than is a nice SUV, with very good boots space, even with the 3rd seats up, perfect for big families. Maybe isn't the best for Off-Road, but for City Vehicle it is good
Good work again mate ....however when you get a chance I have a wish list for you .....can you review Mitsubishi l200 or Shogun ,Volvo s60 ,Subaru *anyone*, Suzuki swift sport, Mazda 3 and jaguar f pace please thanks !!!
mikuelable Yeah sure. I’m keen to get an F Pace! :)
F pace is good but not much leg room in drivers foot well you can bang your knee on centre consol
Are you going to review the old style kia sportarge keen to know your thoughts I have driven hundreds of them when I worked at the main pdi centre for kia in Lincolnshire
Hi
Nice review. I have an Audi Q7 2010. Facelift model with led lights. The 2010 model you showing isn’t the facelift model. However good review.
I thought that, rear indicators look like the old ones.
Stuart Day The early models had the Amber rear lights, this one has the later style 2010 on-
The facelift model has got led front day running lights and road tax on the facelift 2010 > is £300.
You forgot 3.0 TFSI (I think it was kompressor, not an turbo engine. Not sure thought). Good choice. Was 6.9s 100 kmh, average 12l.
We didn't get that engine here in the UK
Vw Tuareg next please
vwsaiphone yes. Better looking, all the same good stuff. And people don’t think you’re a wan*er
Audidude correct
Very nice car, I think to buy myself tomorrow
Dear Sir, if by any chance you will stumble upon E83, do one please. Thank you and good luck!
I bought an optioned demonstrator with the 200kw diesel in January and I dig it. I’m in Australia though and twice a week I do a 700km round trip on a rural highway, so maybe having a bit of room around you helps
lordcaptain73 Yeah that makes sense for that kind of driving 😉
Looks Nice in white. seats get uncomfortable in a long journey rear seats are the most uncomfortable.
Another honest and detailed review of a car we might all have 'considered' buying, onscreen or in real life (mainly onscreen). Engine out job for a timing chain replacement? What?! It's off our wish list! Thanks for so many great vids from you HPA, looking forward to the next one.
APEX Marbella Property Spain Thanks for watching! I appreciate your support 😉
Top notch vid, as always. Cheers, m'dear.
Christopher Newman Thanks for watching!
Did you go to the artic circle?
@@kasiosag I did. The car was perfect for such a trip.
@@NigelMarston did u film your adventure?
@@kasiosag Kind of. I took 3 cameras with me and shot various angles here and there but I was travelling alone, and didn't do any commentary. I intended to splice it all together into a short 5-8 mins video. I'll pull my finger out and get that done.
@@NigelMarston video editing can be a slog.
excellent review- thank you. I hate the Q7 but need a 7 seater that isn't embarrassing but am considering it- sort of.
