Played it in arcades as a kid. Then on Dreamcast. One of the best Sega Racing games ever. When it was released on arcades nothing was like it in term of gameplay, music and 3D graphics.

That was an extremely fun chat lads! I'm 100% with you Bedge, about just how dull real driving Sims are, both in terms of their physics and the boring race tracks they're set on. I'd rather be playing 1990's graphics Daytona over PS5 Gran Turismo 7 with all its quadrillion polygons and ultra realistic graphics. A dull track is a dull track no matter how realistically it's rendered. Dibbs, totally with you too on what a quantum leap this seemed like in the arcade at the time. Excellent points as well about just how much the clever AI adds to the gameplay. Hey, if you fellas decide to do a similar video on Daytona USA 2 or Scud Race, I'd love to get involved and chat with you both on the subject in one of your vids.

This one brings back a ton of memories for me. I had this on the Saturn back in the day, and I remember it being just an incredible racing experience. It certainly gets you hyped for some top-class racing action. I really wish that I'd taken the time to really appreciate the things that you guys mentioned about it back then. We were really spoiled with these games. Such a great period for gaming. and it felt like it would never end. I don't really like realistic racing games either. I do own Gran Turismo and the second one, and as Bedgel said, they do look the part and are fine games, and I agree that it's almost too real. Where as, you could play Daytona and do things you wouldn't normally do in a real race. Even Toca Rally and Colin McRae on PS1 are just almost unplayable for me compared to this. Give me the blue skies and colourful tracks of Daytona any day. This is another awesome video, guys!

I remember when UK Resistance launched their Blue Skies in Gaming campaign - they were totally on to something! 😂 Sounds like we’re of a similar mindset for sure, the 90’s Sega racers are totally where it’s at for us. When I worked at the mall as a teen, I'd punch out of Express Ltd and finish every night defending my 1st place score on DAYTONA at Dave & Busters. None of my friends understood it, so I'm glad others discovered the apotheosis of the powerslide. 😎

Have you guys ever played Hotshot Racing? I love Daytona, OutRun, and Ridge Racer and Hotshot Racing just gives great memories of those games that I love so much that I spent hours upon hours in HR just because of how fun the game looks and plays. It was actually my number 1 pick for the best racing game of the last decade. It's just simple, pure, arcade fun for anyone to pick up and play! :D

@Gaming_For_Ages Super Retro GP, DDI Rally Championship, Victory Heat Rally, and Parking Garage Rally Circuit! Really great games to look into that I really enjoyed last year. Gotta give it to DDI for making DDI Rally and Super Retro GP. Great games and I really can't wait for their Daytona-like game, Stock Car USA as well as their project on a Sega Touring Car Championship-like game as well! ^^

I’ve read since they seemed to be caught in two minds - trying to avoid being an arcade console while home markets moved towards big games, and also having Naomi as a brilliant source of amazing games! Seems like it left em not wanting to put resource into non-Naomi arcades so model 3 like scud race and other model 2 stuff never found their way home… kinda felt like they didn’t fully satisfy their sega fans and didn’t fully win over the PlayStation crowd. But they did make some awesome DC games along the way!! - bedgell

Sega is just so stupid man, why the hell they didn't made a modern Daytona port with multiplayer/local support yet. Just imagine a simple great port that remasters the original graphics but doesn't change the whole aesthetic, God it would be so perfect. anyway great video, Daytona (and Ridger Racer as well!) deserves way more attention and love nowdays, feels like we are in a really bad time with racing game, so having a new release of both would be so great...

I cannot stand the Daytona games. The music makes me want to smash the Saturn to pieces. It was Daytona and Virtual Fighter 1 that made me believe that the Saturn was a bad console back in the day. But the Saturn is actually a great console, those games really don't do it justice.

"Daytona, let's go away" ...where? WHERE ARE WE GOING? WHY ARE WE GOING AWAY DAYTONA? WHY?! Also the arcade versions will always be superior. I don't know why, but all the home versions including the Dreamcast version feel wrong, like... the car is all weird and squidgy, the handling is off. There's something about the arcade cabinet that never translated properly to any home releases.
The arcade is definitely top of the pile for sure! It was the developers. You had Yu Suzuki and his top developers tuning every parameter of the physics engine and playing the game to death until it is perfect. Also doing location testing and getting feedback. Do you thing the home ports had a similar treatment? Also we don't know if they had access to the original source code for the home ports or just the assets. Even if they had the source code without having the originals dev's it would be difficult to understand how to tune it in order to have the proper feel for the cars.
It’s to do with the gears, shifting down to 2nd (or 1st on occasion) to start the slide, then putting it back into 3rd or 4th to grip the road again. It takes a bit of practise but once you get it it’s so much fun. Thanks for watching! - Dibbs

The perfect version of this game was for the xbox 360 / ps3. I still play it and still enjoy its appeal after all these years.
aye, 360 is still my go to - though i think online is available in ps3 still and it is a shame i can't play with friends on my 360 one!!

Got all copies on Saturn and Dreamcast for me it was going blockbusters with mates back in 90s this games still banging today better than ridge racer

These ain't stories I'm 53 go back rewind when the Saturn came out and PS1 wipeout I was in my early 20s games and raves went hand in hand 👌
I still suck at drifting on Daytona USA! Love the first track because the other tracks I totally blow at.

this my favorite game. the only thing with the manual transmission the physics is good. In really this is somewhat moneyshifting.
