  • Hey guys! I wanted to share this video because I want you all to know that there are REALLY bad days when it comes to this illness. There are bad days when it comes to normal life. it is OK to feel crazy emotions. It is OK to be overwhelmed with feelings that you don't understand. you have to let yourself go through these emotions and deal with them fully. don't try to block out sadness, anger, guilt, frustration or any negative feeling. Recognize it, address it, feel through it and let yourself deal with it.
    You are never alone.

Any diabetic who uses a pump is a fool and these devices are taking decades off peoples lives. Eat a very low carb diet ALL the time, test four times a day with a meter and you should only require a long acting insulin, never a fast acting one. Pizza? What planet is this person on?

Girl, I feel you so much. I'm 38 years old and I've had type 1 diabetes since I was 24. So 14 years and counting and I'm going to have it until the end of my life. I have these kind of problems from time to time. It's ok. sometimes I have 300 mg/dl all day long and it just won't drop. But those days are rare. I don't wear an insulin pump, I inject insulin manually with an insulin pen and I also measure my blood sugar manually with test strips. It's a struggle, we all know it. If I had to give you one piece of advice, I'd tell you to eat at roughly the same time every day and do the same activities at the same time every day. Routine is the secret. At least that's what works for me. I'm sending you good vibes and positive thoughts.

Tse499. I have been a type 1 for 48 yrs, about a yr ago I decided to get a dexcom g6 blood glucose monitor. It has been life changing... As you know, you are constantly wondering what your blood sugars are. Every 5 minutes my monitor updates the level.. Wearing the g6 is no big deal. I never wanted to wear anything big and bulky. The sensor itself is about 2 quarters thick and is generally not noticed under clothes . you will not regret it.. Placing the sensor on is super simple as you can see by vids here on youtube...I too also inject.myself....

I know a lot of stress and negative emotions can cause your glucose to high just like when you’re sick, on top of that you had pizza and wine...I know it’s hard and I’m so sorry for whatever you are going through and I know it’s not easy but just try and breathe and relax maybe take a hot bath or shower and meditate love..hope you’re okay. I’m also a type 1 so I understand how It emotionally, mentally and physically feels when you are high..but diabetes is not always perfect and this shows but as long as you are doing what you are supposed to be doing it’ll eventually return back to normal ❤️

Yeah this disease can really put you through the ringer, I couldn’t even begin to explain how much this helps that I’m not the only person that has days like this, where nothing you do brings your numbers down. I don’t have a pump, so I can’t relate exactly but what really frustrates me is when you check your glucose and it’s like in the high 200’s so of course you put some units to combat it and then you wait the 2hrs and your even higher than you were before. Then there’s the times when you eat something that you know exactly how much to take because you have done it a hundred times before but this time instead your reading is like 300 instead of the normal 140 you usually are, I feel this disease has bipolar disorder, lol. With everything you have shared so far in your life, and have overcome I feel this to shall pass. Good luck with ya.

    • @KarolinaSays

ugh, i know exactly what you mean. our bodies work in mysterious ways and sometimes i honestly feel like my body sent responding to the insulin AT ALL. you are definitely not alone in feeling this way, and as much as i hate that others go through this, there is a peace in knowing that we are not alone.

  • @HoneyBeeHeidi100

Also, as I was watching you look at your pump's history that's when I actually discovered myself how to look at my history further back more than just the last 3 hours! Thank you girl!! I'm sure someone told me how to do it before, but it's actually cool to for sure know how to look way back several hours before not just 3 hours!

Thank you so much for sharing your bad day. This is literally my life some days. I've had T1 for 30 years and I'm on the same pump and cgm as you. I totally relate to not being able to sleep due to the alarms every 20 min. The infusion sets are too expensive to swap out to see if that can help. ( I ended up in DKA with a bad site and have had other infusion sites that seemed to be bad only to be ok like your's was on your video.) My silver lining is that when my Blood sugars go up , and yes mine go up in the upper 300s, it is usually because I'm getting sick so at least I am fore warned. Also stress sends my bs thru the roof. I loved your message about feeling all emotions. That sums up life. It is exhausting being a type 1 even on good days. I wish your video would be shared with all health care providers to show what we go thru 24~7.

    • @KarolinaSays
      @KarolinaSays  5 лет назад

reading this hits so close to home for me. i know exactly what you're feeling through your words. i honestly can't remember the last time me (or my boyfriend) has a restfull, peaceful nights sleep without any alarms. even if my blood sugar is stable at 90 a random alarm will go off to calibrate or enter BG for no reason. its SO frustrating, i can feel my blood pressure rising when i hear that little jungle coming from my pump and waking me up.
its tough and its work every single day. we can't take a day off and i don't think a lot of people realize that.
i wish you the best and i hope that you are doing well and your health is good. 30 years is a long time, I'm almost there (27 for me) i wish you the BEST and keep your head up. even through the bad days. thats what matters the most.

Hello Karolina, it was very stressful to watch you in so much mental pain, and I thank you for sharing this with us. Yes, I am type 1, and I was diagnosed in 1969, when I was 8 months old, and so, you could say I am a veteran - I know how it feels to be in hyper and hypo - in previous years, the hyper usually made me quite emotional, and on occasions I went into panic mode and delivered way too much insulin, only to suffer a severe hypo some hours later, and then to feel totally crap for the whole of the ensuing day. My hypos are varied in nature, and occasionally I can be fully cognitive while at levels as low as 2.0mmol (~36 for you guys), and on other occasions I can be totally hypo at 2.8 (~50). What I will say is that carbs are the killers of your control. Now, I NEVER eat pizza, bread, pasta, potatoes, rice and definitely nothing with added sugar (candy, as you guys call it). I asked my doctor around 5 years ago, about keto and his response was there was not enough research on it. So, I left it for some time. I can tell you that I decided to give Keto a go, around 2 years ago. Best decision ever. My Hba1c is never above 5, most of my energy is gotten from ketones, I am totally focussed, and my levels go between 3.5 (~63) and 6(108) - but they ebb around 4.5 as average. Alcohol has a real negative effect on your control, in a kind of paradoxical way. My advice to you is stay away from it, because it will mess with your kidneys and mess with your liver, and definitely mess with your diabetes. As a fellow diabetic, please stay away from that poison, no matter how tempting it feels. Watching you reminded me of when I was a young man, and yes, I ate pizza, drank beer, and did all the things a young person does. I don't really regret my old lifestyle, but I would NEVER go back to it, especially at my age. I miss bread, and pizza, and I REALLY miss the Jack Daniels with pepsi max and ice, and I also miss totally overloading myself on insulin, waiting for the crash, and then eating a nice box of chocolates! Yes, what a crazy thought! I had no idea how stupid and dangerous that was, because, I figured if I keep my blood sugars in a reasonable level, I would be fine - this was when I was not educated. I hope it makes you smile that there are some idiot diabetics, like me, who have gotten through and made sense of the education given to them. As a female, I expect, as a diabetic, you will suffer much more emotionally than the general population, and I can sympathise with you, especially as those without this condition have no true idea what we go through in this crappy environment of diabetes. I wish you well Karolina. Mark.

I’m type 1 diabetic and use a pump. My pump basal is always managed manually and I think that is the best way to go about finding a healthy basal rate that is suitable. Indeed, for 10 years now I’ve slept well at a basal rate of 0.9 units per hour. You just have to find a dose that suits you and stick to it.

I didn't realize that the highs could make people feel so crappy. My a1c was 10.2 before I started insulin, which was fairly recent. I don't notice when my blood sugar is high yet, but I know when it's low. I wonder if, once I get my levels more stable, I'll start recognizing the difference? Try it. Just listen to the first 5 minutes and let me know if it helps. You are so young and have your whole life ahead of you.

I'm stressed out just watching this. Diabetes can be such a pain to have to deal with especially when you can't seem to get your numbers the way you'd like them to be. I have a hard time trying to sleep because my glucose levels will be too low and I would have to stay up and treat it until it was at a more comfortable number for me to sleep with. Now I'm dealing with these random highs at night and I don't know where they came from. I'm probably catching something, but anyways, Hope you're doing alright

Yeah insulin pumps suck, it tends to fail on me too! My medtronic 670G... As soon as I pay this damn thing off I am going back to levemir and to be honest regular insulin, Humalin R. The auto mode is bad its more reactive than proactive it would allow me to go high and then bolus me large amounts of insulin. I use mine on manual mode and I tailored all the rates varying on hours and activities. Keeps my BG at 80 all day long. I don't have deal with the BG swings, annoying alarms and disables in auto mode. So you rose to 400 just by the lack of background insulin, did you ate something looks incredibly high!!!!

Hello Karolina- sorry you had a crappy day... a few notes, drinking water helps to dilute the concentration of glucose in your blood, which is one of several reasons dehydration for a diabetic can go majorly wrong quick. Two, as much as you may feel like junk, using Bernstein’s Laws of Small Numbers theory a little- you should aim to undercorrect when trying to correct your sugar and try to nudge it down. As much as a high is bad, an extreme low can be fatal. I know I’m preaching to the dragged and screamed converted, but I don’t want to see you in a bad way. Hope you feel better hon!

rose love oh no, I’m sorry to hear that! Are you seeing an endocrinologist ? I’m sure you know how dangerous blood sugars like that are. I spent a number of years with blood sugars that high and I paid for it with serious, life altering complications. Please take care of yourself! I HIGHLY recommend speaking to your doctor about going on a low carb diet. You’ll see a difference immediately. Also, are you on the insulin pump? You could also wear a Continuous Glucose monitor without being linked to a pump. It helps so much to see your blood sugar every minute of the day. Please email me if you went to talk or if there is anything I can do to help. I apologize if I sound like a mom, I just know what I went through and my regrets. If I can stop it from happening to someone else I will do all I can to help.

@@KarolinaSays Hi, I was suffering from this rollercoaster from December till March and had to do something. I got the books The Ketogenic Diet for Type 1 diabetes by Ellen Davis and Keith Runyan and a few weeks later I got Dr Bernstein's Diabetes Solution. Basically it's the Keto/low carb diet that I think you mentioned you did. Recommended carbs of 6grams for breakfast, 12 for lunch and 12 for dinner. I stopped drinking coffee because that is supposed to spike bs. I also stopped using my insulin pump and went back to using pens because of unpredictable absorption of insulin at the cannula sites (I had used the pump for more than 10 years). Now my bs ranges from 72 to 130. I want to change to Tresiba long-acting when I see my doctor next week. So, the diet and changes have worked well and Dr Bernstein has some good videos. You minimise errors on a low-carb diet. Good luck.
