    Nice work on the video. Really nice to see the verification of the joinery before assembly. Having done a few Timber Frames I can appreciate the importance of getting it right especially with Scarf joints. You are obviously very experienced but I was curious as to why you use the term "Post and Beam". My understanding from school and the market place was that this is really true Timber Frame as to me Post and Beam infers that there are some hidden mechanical fasteners used. In any case no matter what you call it, it's very pleasing to watch. Cheers John

    • @MEDASINE
      @MEDASINE  Год назад

      Thanks for the comment, John.
      I also build log homes, and there are 2 main techniques that are Scandinavian and the other is post and beam with round logs. So basically, Timber frame is post and beam with square timber. So you are correct to call this timber frame.
      This is an obvious detail that I should have mentioned in the video or even in the title. The elephant in the room. 😆

    Superbe travail! Merci de partager votre savoir faire! J'aime bien la technique de la scie-sauteuse pour le premier trait à l'intérieur de la mortaise mais je ne suis pas certain que la mienne donnerait d'aussi bons résultats (ce n'est pas mon outil préféré mettons)... J'essaierai bientôt... À quand le prochain vidéo?

    • @MEDASINE

      Sur ce projet les poteaux sont seulement vissés au madrier de base. grkfasteners.ca/fr/
      Ce sont des visses pour le poteaux poutres.
      Préférablement vous auriez une poutres de base pour que vous puissiez faire un tenon mortaise ou vous pouvez aussi mettre des goujons.

    Looks great, nicely done! Two quick questions: How do you fasten the top lap joint? And, do you recommend a lap joint to turn a corner?

    • @MEDASINE
      @MEDASINE  Год назад

      GRK fasteners for the lap joints. You can also use dowels.
      You can use lap joints in corners too.

    • @josephjutras1647
      @josephjutras1647 Год назад

      @@MEDASINE Great, thanks! If you use a dowel to fasten the top lap joint, I assume you just make the post tenon longer and have it extend through the bottom lap joint. Is that correct?

    • @MEDASINE
      @MEDASINE  Год назад

      You could. You can also put the dowel from the top of the top beam to the bottom beam, then true the post vertically. You could put 2 or 4 dowels depending on the size. One each side of the tenon.

    Great job! Did you have a structural engineer or architect draw up your plans, or did you create the design yourself?

    • @MEDASINE
      @MEDASINE  Год назад

      There was no engineering for the timber frame part. This project was a home owner contractor, and it was done like the home owner decided. It's not the best way to go. If you don't have much experience, it's better to have your project engineered by a professional. Some people are afraid of them, but in the long run, it's a good safety net.

      Ya, the magic of editing. We actually dropped the beam in place quickly to see the fit . If everything looks good, we lift it back again and insert the brace, which is usually tested on the ground first. Good cache!
