Ok, so yeah as professional builder I know there are a few areas of this project that could have been done easier, but kudos for figuring out how to get the end product you wanted. One of the better DIYer projects I've seen.

Incredible work! Your step-by-step guide on framing a roof for an outdoor kitchen is invaluable. I'm hooked and can't wait to see the rest of your outdoor kitchen build. Subscribed!
Cool video and awesome build, to make the hurricane ties and straps more appealing you could spray paint them black, I’m gonna watch more of this series now
First off nice work! I l I ke the design and the video was sussinct and easy to watch. I'm not a pro builder, but I do work in the trades and have a little structural knowledge. I'm curious if you consulted and span charts for the build? I was concerned about the middle space not having a bottom chord. Could this lead to a sagging ridge and bowing edges? Again I'm not a pro, but this is something I would have questioned if it were my project.
Prepping to build an outdoor kitchen next summer, including the pizza oven. My wife is Italian and her cousins over in Italy all have these. Plan to build it and an outdoor kitchen to show them over in Italy! Great videos and descriptions!
Hola. Buen día. Excelente video. Disculpe podría decirme cuáles son las medidas y ángulos que ocupó en los tablones para hacer ese tipo de trabajo porfavor. Les quedó muy bella la pérgola. Felicidades!!.
The curbed braces are sexymius Maximus . Only way to go. Just find someone who has a bandsaw and an isolating sander. Well worth it. Great video, very creative
Very nice. Love the look. Love the music too. For someone who claims to not be a professional you seem to have good skills and ideas. Love it (I used to build houses with my dad, so I have some experience). Love the hardware too. It’s been a long time since I did work like this. Getting inspired! Is this royalty free music? Did you compose it! Sounds really good.
Beautiful work! I only have one question: it looks like the gap between the top of the Oven/Fireplace to the underside of the roof is only a couple of feet. Do you have any trouble with the roof deck heating up with that close proximity?
Well that curve part on the extra support beans is what is what set them apart or make your design stand out. A very nice idea. And by the way that whole design for your cook out grill is outstanding and nice to probadly have some beers and a nice cook out under that bitching pergola or cook out area.
Thx for a good video. You stated "once the posts are measured and squared: after you placed them in cement. How did you square them after they set? Seems like you didn't mention a step in there. Did you just reposition them while they were setting?
Nice job on the wood details, the only thing I would've done differently is, I probably would've used some kind of tong and groove boards for the roof instead of plywood, but that's ok. Awesome job.
Love the videos, the question I have though is how bad the flue opening releasing all that heat directly into the structure. Does it heat up really bad? Can it damage the roof?
Wonderful structure, would have liked to seen a tongue and groove plywood to mimic the real thing. All the wood aesthetics looked great and I agree the trim details are a must.
If you are talking about those 6 inch tongue and groove planks, I looked into it but they were so expensive. You are right though. Would have looked really nice.
Very well done sir, impressive . Qs: What size and material are your beams? What wood is used for the 6x6 posts? What is the spacing of your rafters? How much overhang did you do for the front? Thank you!
@@ArtisanMade Thank you so much sir. I have been gifted 3x6 beams and I plan on a 3’ overhang. The width from post to post will be 14’. I hope they will be suitable.
Great video series. I am starting a wood-fired pizza over and have been watching your series for some tips. In this Q&A video, you talk about not using mortar in the first row of soldier fire bricks. In your build, you did use the refracting mortar on dry bricks. Without securing this first row how does the dome stay in place?
I liked your post and beam roof. You did a good job. I need to build my own roof to cover our pizza oven and outdoor kitchen.I would like to know the dimensional lumber used and how high your frame is from the ground. Also, what is your roof pitch? My wife and I like everything about your structure that we are going to copy it.Ours will be a 12 x16.Many thanks.Nick
I realize you had to say, "I'm not an engineer," for liability reasons. You may not have a college "degree" in engineering, but being an artisan with the ability to think and reason is better than having an engineering degree. Good job!
Why use a handsaw to cut those notches, or birds mouths, in the roof rafters when you can use the biggest band saw on the property? Joking with you. I really enjoyed watching your build. It looks awesome!
Excellent video. I like a lot of your ideas. Very impressed with your work. This maybe is not a thing to be asking here but since I like what you did, so I am asking. Feel free to not reply. I am wanting to build a roof over my deck but don't have room for a leger board under the eaves. I am thinking of removing the facia board and attaching a piece on each side of the house rafter and they place deck rafter between the 2 scabs I installed on rafter. Your opinion? Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Thank you? Are you saying that you basically want to extend the roof further outward so it covers a portion of your patio? If so, I have seen that. As long you have the height, that would work. Not sure if you should remove the fascia or just build off of it.
Wayne, I'm about to do the same thing but I'm going above the facia, in through the roof and set the beam on the outside wall. I feel this provides better support for the Beams and Roof over my Deck.
Very nice job here - that amazing roof is easily 10 times more sturdy than the one on anyone’s house - 500 years from now the house will be long gone but this kitchen will still be in perfect condition - future archeologists will be like “wtf?”
Nice work all in all. I would say that I think your king posts are woefully undersized for the weight. If you can get in there after the fact and bolster them somehow, might save you a collapse.
Looks great, I was wondering what you planned on doing chimney-wise for the oven through the roof. Not sure if you mentioned that anywhere. Or is there enough room for the heat and smoke to escape under the roof?
Really nice, it gives me a few ideas for my project. I was thinking about using the 6x6 posts and think yours are treated, do you think they will take a stain?
I was wondering the same thing. I can’t find 6x6 material that is not treated by me. I’m going to wait till the spring and then test a small piece with stain.
This guys working style is a pleasure to watch. Just solid, basic knowledge, good design taste and a lot of common sense.
Ok, so yeah as professional builder I know there are a few areas of this project that could have been done easier, but kudos for figuring out how to get the end product you wanted. One of the better DIYer projects I've seen.
As a builder myself, I really like the way you build. Great eye for design, great attention to detail, great technical workmanship. Cheers!
From an engineer to a non-engineer.....you build like an engineer. Very impressive work!!
Thank you!!! That made my day!!!

I think you are doing a great job, it looks fantastic, and that blues music sounds like the style of Chris Thomas king, am I right ?
Great Job

This is very helpful! I am going to build one in back yard following your blue print. Thanks.
Where did you get the lumber? Looks like timber frame lumber and not regular dimensional stuff at big box. Looks great
I couldn’t get timber frame lumber here especially during Covid. Used 6x6 3x8 and 2x6.
love these American Projects - you guys are such amazing craftsemen :)
Very, very ,very good.

@@ArtisanMade I think they did a hell of a job - same with you. Really pretty work.

Thx for a good video. You stated "once the posts are measured and squared: after you placed them in cement. How did you square them after they set? Seems like you didn't mention a step in there. Did you just reposition them while they were setting?
Once the anchors were set, the posts could be positioned forward or back before fastening with screws
Beautiful outdoor kitchen!
Nice job on the wood details, the only thing I would've done differently is, I probably would've used some kind of tong and groove boards for the roof instead of plywood, but that's ok. Awesome job.
Exactly what I was thinking. To make all the supports and give it a post and beam appearance, then fall short on the roof....just seems short changed.
I used T-111 sheets stained it flipped it so it looks like tongue and groove from underneath
Amazing. I love it
Looks great, nice work. Curious why the roof didn’t have collar ties?
I just built a 10x20 porch timber truss vaulted wondering about how to get around using rafter ties
Fabulous! Great video!
Love the videos, the question I have though is how bad the flue opening releasing all that heat directly into the structure. Does it heat up really bad? Can it damage the roof?
Thank you. Check out the next part. I used insulated chimney pipe. No heat transfer at all. But Unfortunately it is a bit pricey.
Nice work!!
Great job
Your electric power lines looked close to the roof did you have to put a support to rase the lines higher?
Thank you! Going to run them under ground soon.
Very nice stylish build. Great craftsmanship! They only thing wrong I noticed was the NY islanders jacket you had on…Go Habs Go!! ;-)
Haha!!! We almost met each other last year. I’m still recovering
In the rafters it is necessary to make another cutout, U-shaped.
Very well done sir, impressive . Qs: What size and material are your beams? What wood is used for the 6x6 posts? What is the spacing of your rafters? How much overhang did you do for the front? Thank you!
Beams are 3x8. 6x6 posts is treated. Rafters are spaced 16 inches on center. Overhang is 24 inches but I wish i did 36 inches.
@@ArtisanMade Thank you so much sir. I have been gifted 3x6 beams and I plan on a 3’ overhang. The width from post to post will be 14’. I hope they will be suitable.
Thank you for the great idea

3x8 horizontal, 6x6 vertical

They will never move once the first two rows are up. That’s a lot of weight.
Do people actually eat enough pizza to justify a pizza oven
AMAZING work man! I’m definitely subscribing to your channel.
12/4 kiln dried is quite rare. Where did you source this thickness? Very impressed by your workmanship. Learned a few tricks I didn't know.
I got it from a local lumberyard. During the peak of covid, this is all I could find. The quality wasn’t the best, but it got the job done.
Great job looks amazing.
Wow great build. How big is your shelte? My will be 3x2 meters. Just did concrete yesterday
About 10.5 feet x 11.5 feet
I liked your post and beam roof. You did a good job. I used 6x6 posts, 3x8 horizontal beams, 2x6 rafters, roof pitch is 25 degrees the height of the horizontal beams is about 80 inches. Good luck!
I realize you had to say, "I'm not an engineer," for liability reasons. You may not have a college "degree" in engineering, but being an artisan with the ability to think and reason is better than having an engineering degree. Good job!
Thank you brother!!!
excellent job I like to do it in my ranch mx.
Aren't the horizontal members at the front and back actually in tension because of the weight of the roof through the rafters? Nice job regardless!!
Looking Awesome mate! I bet your friends became a lot more helpful with the projects once they saw the oven and the bbq =)
I had to entice them by offering pizza parties for their children’s birthday parties 😂

Can we build a roof on top of the BBQ countertops if they are already done.
Yes but it is risky. I would protect them with something. Drop a tool or a beam and those tops are going in the dumpster
nice job
