      one reason i hate and love this hobby. i have gotten every lock i own open at least once, but i have to do it twice in a row for me to say it is successful. i have an 'ace' lock that has 3 serrated and two serrated spools that i can pick, but i have a master 140, a ruger lock, an ace (that looks like a 140) that i can't get. gotten them once, but that is it. they are way 'easier' locks to most, but i can't seem to get them open after the first lucky pick, yet i can get a security lock with all security pins. makes no sense. love to keep trying though. can be frustrating, but rewarding when you finally get it (not that i have/will). love the vids man.

    I've definitely noticed what you're referring to regarding the short driver pins on some #3s. A #3 was one of the first locks I tried to pick, and I was unsuccessful until after I had already been picking much "harder" locks.

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 лет назад +25

      That doesn't surprise me. Unless you know what you are dealing with, AND you have experience with addressing below shear line drivers, this flaw really can slow you down. You remind me of when I first started... I had a Master #3 that I could rake, but it took me a few months before I could SPP it! :-(

    @LockPickingLawyer - impressive as the picking is, I was even more impressed by the smoothness and speed with which you picked up each lock and put the tension tool in it. Didn't miss a beat, whereas I seem to be constantly dropping the turning tool, faffing about trying to get the tip of it in the sweet spot and not touching that first pin. You picked the locks faster than I can place the turning tool...! Nice :)

  • @lorkoe

    Did you notice the binding order of the pins to be quite consistent or did it not matter too much?

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 лет назад +22

      They were generally back to front (thus the direction in which I picked them), but there was a fair bit of variation... the highest two cuts had driver pins that were too short, so that really messed with the binding order.

    I started picking locks when I was 8'ish (simple padlocks and safes) usually with a couple paperclips. It was never to steal the contents, but the rush of being able to defeat the locks. However, I never understood how I was doing this. Thanks to a vid from LPL a few days back, I discovered not only what I was doing back then, but also how I was unintentionally doing it. In the last few days I've gone from having an entry level LP set to picking locks well beyond my previous skill level. Thanks LPL, you have a good way of teaching LP'ing!! I'm now 37 and have a new challenging hobby to replace my speed cubing with (though both cause hand cramps :) Side note: I originally used paper clips for single pin picking, and for me that's where the fun is. I've since learned other less skillful techniques but they're less entertaining also. It's all about skill and speed for me, not just speed.

The No. 1 was the first one I popped, the No. 3 was the second. and that was on the fourth day of trying. Master locks are stupidly easy even for a picking noob. I don't feel good about using these locks to secure anything.

If you disliked it because it was too long, think about how long it would take you to pick 16 #3 locks. It's not long because of the intro, like all the other youtube channels. Just started learning to pick after watching you.
    So I have a master # 3 that is much different, it’s from around 1990’s it cannot be shimmed as the mechanism slides sideways and I was able to pick it a couple of times but I think I damaged it because now the key doesn’t work.
    Its a master #3 with a stamp 3314.
    Can you do a video on the technique of picking, am I using too much force, and on this particular lock when I use top of the keyway there’s no room for the pic to get in and also when I’m using top of the keyway how far do I push in the prybar because when I pushed mine in it bumped into the first pin so I couldn’t get to it.
    I bought a bang good set for $16 that came with a clear lock so I’m using fairly normal pics they’re not homemade or anything I’ll look around your site and see if you have any instructional videos but I could really use help, how much pressure, how hard to push pins etc...

    I just got into this hobby (tools arrived today)….I can pick sparrows cut-away lock, but still have trouble with the “easy as it comes” master lock #3, even when using a rake.

    I had the cylinder in a #3 lock break in half and it allowed the lock to open with something as simple a pocket knife

    im impressed, see how quick you can pick 32 locks. that'll be fun to watch. i think you should be able to do that in under 10 mins, i challenge you. ;-)

    When a lock is so bad that you have to do multiple of them to get the video over 5 minutes.

    INCREDIBLE SPP'D .I WAS GLAD YOU DID A NOTHER TIME TRIAL WITH MASTER LOCK .THE BIDDING ON SOME OF THEM KEYS LOOK LITTLE TOUGH. YOU ARE MASTER PICKER THAT HAS TO BE RECORD ??.😎😎😎😎😎🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

      Thanks -- don't know if there are records for such things, but I'd imagine this could be beaten without much trouble. Give me a week to practice on this set of locks and I bet I could shave some seconds off. A good raker could probably beat my time as well.

      Don't be so modest. Maybe by raking. But spp'd i would be surprised. Try a raking video too see.THANKS for responding i noticed you respond to all comments tha shoul be record in it's self lol lol

      I do make an effort to respond to all comments (except for giveaway threads)... if you take the time to write me, it would be rude not to respond. That said, I am reaching the point at which this policy is becoming unsustainable. I don't want to stop... interacting with (all but a few of) the viewers is half the fun of running this channel.

    What tension bar is that? A bent peterson maybe? I can't find a top keyway bar I like and afraid of spending $10 on nice one that I may also hate

    How do you "map out" the lock you are in? I have a really hard time visualizing the pins and where I am inside the lock. In addition how can you tell the binding order so quickly? This is some serious skill...
