    That's nothing, I can pick one in 6 minutes... Wait what? 16? Who has 16 1100's! 7 minutes! I quit picking...

      Same, I picked my 1166 in 6 minutes watching this. Slightly disheartening to hear locks popping every 20 seconds or so while I struggle haha.

      Just looks like a heap of money to me..
      I looked at getting one a day ago and depending on the color I want they go from $80 each to $170 each..
      The $80 dollar one is only a single color and all the others are over one hundred dollars each..
      Where I'm located at the moment this is turning out to be a much more expensive hobby than I thought.

    This is currently one of my favorite videos. Mostly because I am using it as inspiration to improve my own skills. Currently my best time is 6 1100's in just over 11 minutes. Sometimes I can get one open in under 30 seconds, and sometimes a single lock will take a few minutes by itself. I am trying to figure out why it takes so long for some but not others. I'm hoping that if I can figure that out and overcome it, that I might be able to eventually achieve a time closer to the one demonstrated in this video. In the mean time though, I'll just keep practicing every day. Maybe I'll eventually feel confident enough to make a few youtube videos of my own some day.

    The real question is: if you gave someone the pile of 16 keys randomly, could they open all 16 faster than this?

    • @TIO540S1
      @TIO540S1 9 месяцев назад

      That’s actually an interesting question. What would be the average time to open 16 locks with 16 shuffled keys? If n is the number of locks and keys and it takes s seconds to try a key, my theory is that, on average, it would take s*(n^2+n)/4 seconds. For 16 locks and two seconds per try, that’s 136 seconds. The least it could take would be n*s seconds if you guessed right every time. The most it could take, if you tried the right remaining key last every time, would be s*(n^2+n)/2. For 16 locks and 2 seconds per try, that’s 32 seconds minimum and 272 seconds maximum. So, definitely faster unless you took over 6 seconds per try.

    Hi Harry, talk about a pickfest! I'm watching your pick, I'm watching your pry bar, and I'm watching your finger on the pry bar, you have certainly nailed these often tricky locks. Impressive! Regards, Brian.

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 лет назад +3

      Thanks... I do the same thing -- watch the tension/torque finger -- while watching others pick. I'm convinced that most experienced pickers do not even realize how active that finger is. Only with difficulty can I consciously pay attention to what I am doing, and my picking results usually suffer when I try to consciously control tension. Strange.

    • @kirkjohnson9353
      @kirkjohnson9353 7 лет назад +1

      Great job. You should get a cake with sixteen candles. Ok, well maybe not that, but something else good.
      I too was impressed with how much finger movement you had. Also, it helps for me to hear you don't exactly pay conscious attention. I am new to the sport and I sometimes do my best picks when I am somewhat distracted - like while watching a video. From now on I will pull my blast visor down and
      "Use the force Luke".

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 лет назад +4

      Kirk Johnson lol. Definitely keep the blast visor down! Also, I do pay attention... VERY close attention. I wasn't speaking so I could pay even closer attention to the feedback. I didn't mean to imply otherwise. Also, I pick faster than I speak, so at this speed, narration wouldn't make sense.

      @theoneandonlyghandi 7 лет назад +3

      The ones I mainly see are Master, Abus and Lockwood for larger padlocks. It is Lane, Lockwood and Ilco for house door cylinders. Some businesses/schools have BiLock or Mul-T type if they're after a bit more peace of mind (perceived security) and I think it is more for key control than actual security.
      Being that this is only a hobby for me and I've only been doing it for a few months, I only have a few locks myself and they're all pretty well worn from picking but I hope to buy a BiLock padlock soon - they are so bloody expensive yet it is cheaper and easier for me to buy one from the US and ship it here than it is for me to source one through an Australian locksmith.

      This shouldn’t be your or anyone’s first lock to pick. Way too difficult for a new picker. Try a simple 4 or 5 pin lock with no security pins. Better still, buy a progressive lock pick set to start practicing on, starting at 2 pins and up.

    I picked up a new 1100 recently. The bitting is 42724. It's loaded with security pins. The crunching and resistance stout!! I've been able to pick it ONCE since bought it, and that was on the day I bought it. I noticed on another LPL video with a bunch of 1100s, I could see the bitting on the keys. Those keys didn't look anything like 42724. The bitting looked rather uncomplicated.

    One thing I've learned from LPL - is consistency in - 1. Tension. He applies the heaviest tension possible at all times. 2. Always starts at the front pin, working pin by pin to the back, then start over again at the front. No bitch picking.. 3. The use of a short hook. I rarely have seen him use anything other than a Peterson short hook. Sizes vary between 15, 18, and 25 .000th, but always a Peterson Short Hook. I personally believe it's those 3 things that add up to being so good and consistent for LPL. I don't own any Peterson short hooks yet. I have 2 Gems. 1 in 18, and the other in 15. Watching LPL enough with his Peterson short hooks - I think it's time to buy myself a few.

    Hey LPL, I´d love to see you trying this challenge again after years of experience. Maybe with an unreaslistic amount of spare locks this time, just to be sure? I´d put my money on 27 this time^^

    "If you have any questions, comment below..."
    Yeah, I have a question: if you're a lawyer who mentioned DC, you can't be Matt Murdock, AKA comic book superhero Daredevil because he lives in Hell's Kitchen, NYC, so, my question is - where in the HELL did you get your superpowers?!?

      He is a lawyer during the day, and a professional lockpicker for hire during the night.
      He started out small, but with hard work got where he is now.
      He is the Hero people dont want, but the lockpicker everyone needs.
      He is the LockPickingLawyer.

    Soooo, I just started picking now 10 days ago. Yesterday I received a batch of 20 of these and since then I've picked 14 of them. There's still 6 I can't open even looking at the key but 14 of them went down pretty quickly.
    What's up with that? I've got masterlock ones and threes and unbranded Chinese locks I can't open and yet the 1100 on at least a bunch of them seems to provide better feedback from the pins.
    Anyone else notice this?
    (I think the ones I can't pick have security key pins. Ima start gutting them)

    I've been a big fan of the 5 minute challenge on r/lockpicking. Thought that was a great idea. Posted one of my own. The time element adds another challenge.

    • @lockpickinglawyer
      @lockpickinglawyer  7 лет назад +1

      If I stopped the clock at 5 minutes, that would have been 12 locks. Not bad. :-D Time definitely adds an element of stress to the picking. I was surprised when I laid everything out to start this video that my heart sped up in anticipation! I've never picked under the gun before. I think it helped... Which I suppose shouldn't surprise me. I tend to focus and do my best professional work under pressure.
