Sorry this one's so late. I've had to cut, delete and weirdly edit a whole lot of this video for copyright to let me out the cage so it's a little more mangled than I'd like. Next video has no copyrights included though so that should be just fine.

    Okay, hear me out:
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Link transforms into a wolf when he's in the Twilight Realm, is later cursed by Zant to remain in his wolf form, and then later gains the ability to transform at will, no matter what realm he's in. Doesn't that technically classify Link as a werewolf? And does that mean that Twilight Princess could be considered a werewolf game? Even though it's not really about Link's lycanthropy, it is a significant part of it.

    • @ProperBird

  • @InquisitorThomas

I mean Skyrim/the Elder Scrolls has some pretty decent playable lycanthropy. Sure after a while turning into a Werewolf in Skyrim becomes less efficient in Melee than putting perks into weapons skills and upgrading weapons with blacksmithing but running around as Werewolf tossing guards around and mauling them is fun.

They have werewolves but the tragedy of the lycanthroph and it's victims is not central to the game or looked at in greater detail.

I know I say it often, I love Underworld. There are so many Dark Souls and you get to know the history of Vampires and Werwolves in this Universe. There are cool fights. Then we get the uber cool Wer-pire Hyprid. Kate Beckinsale slaying foes, in a black latex suit.

For me, as a fan of both Spanish horror films and werewolves, Juan Martínez Moreno's Lobos de Arga was such a fun, delightful ride from start to finish. It twists/plays around with many motifs of lycanthropy tales in such a smart way - talented crew who has a very good grasp on the subject - that non-fans probably wouldn't get as much enjoyment from it aside perhaps from the comedic aspect. If you're a fan of werewolves that's in need of a momentary break from the more serious toned, wolfaholic torment-infused flesh-hungry cursed lupine-human mish-mashed blood soaked fur-covered murderous beasts films, I'd recommend sitting back and enjoying Moreno's flick with some popcorn or chocolate; who knows, could be relaxing and maybe bring you smile or three 😊

    Ginger Snaps is MAGNIFICENT.
Fun fact: here in Brazil the film was released as "Possuída" (Possessed), which, in association with the cover artwork, implied an idea of a completely different kind of experience, consequently hurting its popularity and obscuring it's true, thoughtful themes. Pathetic move. It's like rereleasing Night of the Living Dead as "Night of the Highly Popular Farmhouse Pajama Party".

Monster Squad was a movie I loved, and I think one of the first times I've ever seen what happens if a werewolf is 'killed' by a method that wasn't the cliche silver bullet.
Also can you imagine a werewolf like that as a Dark Souls boss? You'd have to hunt down a silver sword to kill it, as every time you depleted its health bar, it would just get back up, refilling the bar.

Werewolves are cool. I like werewolves. Like ever since I was a kid.
Confession; I have never finished the main game for Morrowind, but I did finish the Bloodmoon expansion, because werewolves!
I also found this really cool show called Cybersix (well cool for 13 year old me) because there is a werewolf episode and a clip of the transformation was on youtube. I think I watched the whole show on youtube to be fair. Though be warned, like the Order it too ended with a cliff-hanger...
...Oh, and before anyone comments, the reason I never finished Morrowind is that same reason I never finished the first Dark Souls (and therefore never got into the Souls series) I just got lost and confused, then frustrated. I wanted to make a joke about the enemies being difficult, but to be fair it's not really the difficulty with Morrowind. It's the dice rolls.

Even though its spiritual successor, The Quarry, is the one actually about werewolves, Until Dawn gives a really good example of how you can use a Werewolf if you look at the behaviour of Hannah as a Wendigo.
Who she does and doesn't attack and when she does it are all informed by her character and her relationships pre-transfornstion and you can get a pretty good idea of her personality and how it's been twisted by the curse even though she's a screaming, mostly-feral monster

Bigby Wolf actually is a Werewolf. He was born a wolf and then, later, Snow White cursed him with lycanthropy so he could take on human form, rather than use a glamour.

Why not Skyrim? I feel like those might be my favorite Werewolves in gaming that aren't in the game Darkstalkers. Mostly because they're a fun subversion with them having an organization of basically *champions* that work for their community. Its a fair argument that they aren't really allowed to be monstrous though.

    • @TheSwordsman100
      @TheSwordsman100 2 года назад +2

Well in the Companions' case is more of a game limitation than them not being monstrous. The design and attack animations are fully monstrous and its implied that Aela and Skjor eat bad guys. Unfortunately beast form for NPCs is locked into cut scenes so Farkas (or Aela if using the Cutting Room Floor) gets one scene to wolf out on the Silver Hand in a perspective that that doesn't exactly give you the best look. I do agree though that Skyrim (sorry Morrowind fans) is the best werewolf game as it checks all the boxes.
All Werewolves types are represented ranging from good, (Companions) tragic, (like Sindling) and evil (random encounter werewolves)
      Werewolf hunters (Silver Hand)
Werewolf form is more than wolf than man
The search for a cure trope is here
Player is allowed to become one
      Werewolves eat people
      Able to howl/roar
      Werewolves vs Vampires (Dawnguard)

  • @aaronwilder2775
    @aaronwilder2775 2 года назад

Honestly, I wish we got more variety in werewolves, like vampires have Daywakers, zombies have Runners and those fungus things from the Last Of Us. That's why I like the comic Wolf Moon, it gives a different look on the beast, the Wolf (as it is referred) is a demon that manifests for the 3 nights of a full moon in one person and then one to another, no biting required. It goes randomly, which makes it so much more terrifying.

For one thing I know exactly what it's like to feel I'm talking normally only for others to react as though I'm talking gibberish. When I found out that in Bloodlines 2 they were going to get all "sensitive" and "respectful" with the Malks I basically gave up hope. I love this video, Pale Bird really does go into all kinds of stories but discounts those who aren't "real" werewolves like we associate with them today, and I shall definitely look up the Order things, shame about a cliffhanger, but as I like to imagine I will one day GM a fantasy game, these stories can be useful, I will definitely give the players a belt of wolfskin that transforms them into a werewolf if something happens, like seriously damaged, or rolls poorly under the moonlight when they are supposed to watch over the camp!

The belt/pelt thing was news to me, (and a bunch of other stuff too) the only representation of something like that I've seen is, oddly enough, Disenchanted, and it's a woman that wears a bear pelt instead.
I enjoyed the old medical talk. It gets crazier. I'm 32, so when my parents were babies, the Dr's thought they couldn't feel pain...crazy.
It was freakishly recent when medical practice realized that sanitizing your hands would go a long way. A practice hospital that would work on cadavers then deliver babies figured it out.after many mothers died of toxic shock. Then the person who drew the connection was more or less laughed out I believe. Just crazy wild.

Werewolf has a great quest and lore in skyrim where you become a great werewolf in the end and can transform anytime and be a powerful beast. Hell there is a Vampire quest also and you can do both and use both their powers ;-)

I am sure Bigby is a werewolf since he was formerly known as the Big Bad Wolf, which in the story of Little Red Riding Hood, one of the two fairy tales he was in, he's very commonly seen as a werewolf, especially in modern media, which would explain the bit about him disguising as a human to devour the little girl. Plus, Bigby does have trades that are obviously taken from werewolves, like being weak to silver.

Technically, Dracula would be the Dracula of Werewolves. He claims to have inspired most of the Werewolf myths in the region, he's called a word meaning Werewolf by those who live near his castle (Stoker says it means both Werewolf and Vampire but it's actually just Werewolf) and he's described as animalistic and hairy, with hairy hands, long nails and a unibrow.
This could also be the source of the myth of lycanthropy spreading through the bite.

I love werewolves! So much so that I am determined to write my own book that shows the more monsterious side. I kinda use the tropes that the hot main love interest in books particularly in romances is rewarded for where in actually they are super abusive. That trait is my villain.

Can't work in Dark Souls, I'm afraid, but I do have to give a nod towards the Scourge Beasts in _Bloodborne,_ which fundamentally encapsulate so many of the elements of traditional werewolf stories: the beast as an expression of the primal and violent side of our human natures, the sympathy towards the sufferer who is slowly succumbing to the curse's influence (hi, Gilbert!), even the castigation of the hunter who mindlessly kills beasts while ignoring their fundamental humanity (Djura presents that point quite early in the game, and if you fight the Suspicious Beggar he has a few telling remarks). Unfortunately, because the transformation is one-way and permanent, the vast majority of BB's beasts do not qualify as werewolves (the Suspicious Beggar is the exception--he seems to be able to go back and forth between human form and Abhorrent Beast form at will, going beastly to do a little causal murder and then changing back).

Did you ever play the original Baldur's Gate? One I nearly forgot (even though I played it recently) was the Tales of the Sword Coast expansion. If you don't know this one your party get shipwrecked on an island that split in two with the Werewolves on one side and the Wolfweres on the other. The difference being that the Werewolves prefer staying more human and the Wolfweres prefer reveling in the wolf side. Same curse, two completely different ways of dealing with it.

In Vampire Masquerade universe the werewolves are very strong and very hard to kill and they completely rule the rural areas forcing vampires to the cities. An average vampire can't kill a werewolf in 1vs1 combat so vampires avoid werewolves.
