they really all need therapy 😭 Blood of Elves also says something along the lines of "she got off on his pain" in Triss' inner monologue if i remember well. That to me was the grossest part that solidified the whole story as assault. Yennefer is so complicated (for me personally too). The books have something to say about the cyclical nature of abuse, and Yen truly does need loads upon loads of therapy as a survivor. I sympathize with that entirely, and i even understand what led her to lash out at Geralt physically, throwing those jars mentioned in Eternal Flame. But a single mention of that also completely broke the relationship to me. Once there's physical harm i cannot look past it. But a lot of that is also me applying my own experience because i latched onto this depressed middle aged man when i myself was having the worst time of my life. It took me a while to properly evaluate and articulate what i read with as much objectivity as i'm capable of - to see a lot more of Geralt's flaws, too (admittedly though i still kind of dislike Season of Storms as a whole...). No matter what, Yennefer is clearly, obviously meant to be the love of Geralt's life, they're bad for each other but that's kind of the point. Despite everything i disagree with him on, Sapkowski writes with nuance and baked a lot of cheeky subversion, commentary and meaning into the books. I'm just gonna scroll past the shippy fanart, no harm done. This entire team picking could've died out at some point - Wild Hunt came out in 2015 for crying out loud - and it's kind of a shame that CDPR kept fueling such a childish comment section war for so long. I get why one would want to maintain engagement with such an active fanbase, but whether the Reds want to believe it or not, the fandom (and the damn witcher universe) is larger than passionate randos on twitter arguing over which female character is the better waifu. As if that was the only thing the ladies had going for them. Iorveth merch, for example, would sell like hot cakes, but oh well. but lastly, the most important bit; FREE THE BOBBAS
Iorveth merch would've sold like hotcakes if they didn't butcher him and the large story that involved him out of The Witcher 3. I'm still hoping for a remake that includes the cut content (which also had stuff like Emhyr arresting the lodge on Skellige, Lara Dorren's grave etc...)
I just finished listening to the books and replaying Witcher 2 and 3 (I really don't want to replay 1) and I couldn't believe how badly Triss looked in the books. She was ready to hore out Ciri and let Garelt and Yen die. They recharacterized her heavily in the games. But even with just playing the games I felt like Garelt would have picked Yen just because to spent 2 games looking for her and hearing about her.
A new take on Yen vs Triss vs Gerald (I missed the first upload) was very surprising. Well done! Never considered adding Gerald's failings into the mix, one tends to identify with him and then ignore the beams in his eye.
Though it's a reupload this video was also masterfully produced Jinzee! Always a joy seeing you upload (regardless if it's a reupload lol) i hope you've been doing well also!
Reading the books and playing the games i can conclude that Triss is a princess, beautiful, loving, carefree, mischievous at times and Yen is Queen cos well apart from Triss description that she also has, she's a force you don't want to f*ck with cos you know you'll end somewhere or you'll end dead.
Yay! This was one of my favorite Witcher vids you did but it makes my Roku mad, so I couldn't watch it on my TV. Personally I'm Team Yen. Geralt makes it very clear she's who he loves and he's not interested in Triss. The only reason she's even an option is that he lost his memory and she took advantage of that. Which I just can't look past.
Loved this video! Glad you reuploaded it! I'm definitely team Yen for Geralt of course and as a player. Didn't like Triss in the books, but the games made her more approachable for me, if that makes sense? Exploring her story was fun.
Within the books, a person is almost always evil to the extent that they have "grand plans" for the world - regardless of how selfish/selfless those plans are meant to be. While Triss isn't a full blown ideologue, her plans are definitely "grander" than Yens, which is a big reason why Triss ends up doing so many shady things in the service of those plans.
10:27 Wait, holy shit, Yen has an actual history with actual Freya? That really adds another dimension tomhow she uses (destroys) Freya's Garden in W3...
Free the bobbas (fett or not)! Just for the algorythm, but hey great job, you nailed it. PS: I'm Team Y for the books (which I read long before the game came out), but god I love game's Triss.
My personal opinion of Triss in the Witcher 1, is that CDPR weren't sure what to do with the characters, so as to get the spirit of the characters from the book without ruining them for the future. Hence we got Alvin instead of an actual Ciri, and we got a Triss, that sort of acted like Yennefer from the books. A little bit bitchy...

Commenting at the beginning of the video. W3 was my first introduction to the Witcher world. Obviously my first playthrough meant I got the bad relationship by choosing Yen AND Triss. The next replay was after I read...the second book I think. It was before Blood of Elves, when Triss was written to have food poisoning or whatever and had constant diarrhea, oof. So, I went team Triss. I knew she lied to Geralt, and I also knew she apologized and felt genuinely bad about using him like that. I liked their dynamic in the game, both adults who tried to work towards the same goals as equals. Plus, I liked their ending. It was the promise of a new start in a country we didn't see anything on and only briefly saw in the books. After finishing the books, I could see why people would be upset with her choices in the books, she caved to peer pressure and fear. She was dependant on her sisters. If she had lived like Yen, on her own terms, I don't see her making the same choice. I found Yen to be annoying and bratty in the first two books, and mean in the game. Saving Ciri was her goal, Geralt was just there to make it happen as she demanded. The way she spoke in the garden, after temporarily reviving the guy for answers felt like too much. She was willing to do absolutely anything. After I finished all the books, I could appreciate Yen a lot more. I still found their relationship to be childish at times, but I understood why she was so determined to save Ciri, why she was so attached to her. I'm going to do another replay here soon-ish, maybe next year after FF7Rebirth. So I'm not sure who I'll lean towards liking more than.
Right, so, first book, Yen uses Geralt to be her strongman and beat people up. We're they good or evil? Not really sure. We just know that Yen doesn't like and feels like she owes them a thrashing. So she magically charms Geralt into doing just that. This is one of the reasons I don't see the "Triss used Geralt, so she's inferior to Yen." argument to have any ground. They both used him. Yen just did it through magic, Triss just lied to an amnesiac. They both lose points for this. Yen and Ciri bond, but not for a while at first, iirc. It takes them both a bit to warm up, but I clearly remember Yen calling her ugly-one, for a while, until it became a harmless nickname. Yeah, using magic to sleep with Geralt is unscrupulous. I don't like her actions with the lodge, but she did side with Ciri on her request to spend time with Geralt and Yen, possibly even knowing Ciri wasn't going to come back or comply with the Lodge. As was said, Triss was a side character in the books, so we only got to see what was written for her. We don't get to see her mourn the supposed death of Geralt. Taking her full character into account, she would have. But it wasn't written. But I do see that is a empty argument. We can only judge based on what is actually written. We can infer a general idea but it's all speculation. I don't think that makes Triss weaker. Along with that, she wasn't able to do any of the things Yenn asked. That was all up to Philipa, weather Triss agreed or not. If she spoke out of the Lodge right then, who knows what her fate would have been. Nothing good, I'm sure, and I'm sure she knew that too. She is weak for this, and at fault. She put herself in this situation. Staying with the lodge at that point was the safest thing for her to do, as a magic user. Yeah, Witcher 1 Triss sounds like she got the cliff notes of Yen from book 1 and 2 integrated into her character. I'd say this just makes them both (Yen and Triss) equally bad. If she told Geralt everything, that could make him a target for Phillipa. The only way that wouldn't is if he swore to not seek Ciri and return to being a simple monster hunter. Yeah right, he wouldn't do that. I guess there is an argument to be made about Geralt and Yen being equals because they fight. To me, it just feels like it's more "Yen's way or the highway" kind of arguing. Triss is willing to compromise, hear feedback, and think for herself about things. I don't see that has her being a pushover. Yes, lol. Geralt is pretty bad too. He also sleeps with Fringilla too! Knowing she can't be trusted. I like Yen for the books, obviously it's canon. I like Triss for the games and maybe overall. But yeah, they're all toxic but relationships are complicated and nothing is pure and simple. Now we can talk about the real ship, Team Syanna. I'm kidding! Huh. I really enjoyed Season of Storms as a one off. But that's another discussion. Agreed, people take things too far.
I’m probably one of the only people who likes Triss even in the books but I don’t like her as a match for Geralt and the only thing I dislike about the games is pushing the love triangle
During my play through, I never once found any appeal in Triss. I was always team Yen. That being said, I personally found Shani to be the most physically and intellectually attractive. She’s the only character that I have a statue of. SUPPORT THE RE-UPLOAD!
I mean she's a hot red-headed doctor who is kind and funny. The only thing is that she doesn't have any flaws, so she's not a woman...she must be a monster! Get the silver sword, ha ha.
I played Wild Hunt before I read the books, and I was team Yen from the moment I read the Last Wish story in-game. Their dynamic in the books is toxic (from both sides), but they seem to grow and heal by the end. Wild Hunt Triss is not the same character as book Triss and is much kinder than Yennefer in the game, so I definitely understand Team Triss's stance. One thing I always questioned about the Last Wish story -- did Geralt wish for his life to be intertwined with Yennefer's because he was still under the influence of her love/control spell? Or was that entirely of his free will? Seems like an extreme choice to make after knowing someone for less than a day!
A comment to appease the cruel and inconsistent algorithm gods. May we not have to sacrifice our livers for more views. PS if you're in need of another fantasy series to talk about then I definitely recommend The Dark Tower given how Mike Flanagan's tv adaptation is in development as well as the fact that it's really out there in places. If you haven't read the series then the works of Stephen King that tie into it include Salem's Lot, The Stand (recommend the uncut edition), The Talisman (mainly its sequel), The Eyes of The Dragon, It, Insomnia, Black House (the sequel to The Talisman), Hearts in Atlantis, and Everything's Eventual ("The Little Sisters of Eluria" is part of The Dark Tower series). Speaking of which, we've had two miniseries adaptations of The Stand and I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts on them! The 1994 version is vastly superior and the one episode from the 2020 series that people actually like is the final one that King wrote himself and continued beyond where the book originally ended (the wholly new material happens after the title cards appear so about 9 and a half minutes in if I remember correctly).
I'm on my first playthrough (probably only, I'm not big on replaying usually), and so far my Geralt seems to be going down the route of either no choice or Yennefer. For one, it sort of feels like going with Triss would be the wrong choice for Ciri. If she's been portrayed as either a bit of a sister character OR a "we'll traffick you over for breeding" villain to Ciri, then Geralt going there doesn't seem too good. Meanwhile Yennefer seems, on the whole, better for Ciri. She's been portrayed as more of a mother type for her. Though, it's never good for a child to witness their parents in an abusive relationship either. The latter, and the feeling I'm getting that Geralt can't choose either without hurting the other quite a lot, has me thinking of the "no choice" route. Then again, it's not like choosing neither wouldn't hurt them either.
I think we can summarize everything by saying that all the characters are toxic and they do highly problematic things and are all broken. A lot of things that happen would get them arrested.
I think we can summarize everything by saying that we use the term "toxic" way too loosely and freely. Not every single problematic behaviour is "toxic".
I thought that I misremembered lol I remember watching that video before (and I LOVED it!!!!). I'm personally on team Triss (but my opinion is mostly based on The Witcher 3 and in small part on the books). Idk, I think that while Yen and Geralt are destined, but I think that their back and fourth insults is a major sign of a toxic relationship, and I prefer the ending in The Witcher 3 when Geralt gets with Triss 😁 But I have to admit that your arguments are so convincing! 👏👏👏👏 I love your videos
I can't be the only one who doesn't pursue triss and rejects yen after the quest. It just seems like the most geralt thing and mine personally to do, so he can just live in peace with Roach and Ciri instead.
I'm always team yennefer but against Geralt himself, since I read the books and could not stand him getting fat and sleeping with fringillia while yen was getting mega torture. I do see the appeal of game triss but she's just not my type, she is waaay too much of a goody goody
If i want to play true to the books, of course Yen. However if i had to choose where the books didn't matter, then definitely Triss. And personally i don't think Triss was a minor book character. Geralt, Ciri, and then Yennefer would be the main characters. After that, very important supporting characters would be Dandelion and Triss... Not minor at all
I think Yenn and Geralt love each other more than they'll love anyone else in their lives. That being said, being in love is only one part of being in a successful adult relationship. You need love, accountability, and stability to form a good couple. Ask yourself three questions: Do I love this person? Can I create a household that will stand with this person? Can I always be true to this person? If you can't answer "yes" to all three, don't get married dude/girl. Here's my take: Geralt and Yenn should co-raise Ciri (Yenn is such a great mom, screw that garden) and they should often get together to just f@#$ the hell out of each other. But they shouldn't be a couple. I don't think Triss and Geralt should be FWB. Triss will always read more into a sexual coupling than Geralt would like and I think it will end up hurting her. It's better if she doesn't stay romantically invested in a man who doesn't love her. Triss should find someone who she sees as an equal and settle down. I forgive her "grape" because knowing Geralt it was probably more of a enhancement of what he already wanted to do (which is bang everyone). I bet it was no more potent than what Kiera does in the game with creating romantic illusions and a nice warm bath that smells nice. That's magic, but not grape.
REUPLOAD! I originally uploaded this video in 2021 but it got smacked by the boob-patrol and I've been considering editing and reuploading it ever since. It took me nearly 2 years to decide that yes, I'm going to reupload it. If someone's "comfort character" leads them to write death threats, I'd argue they weren't very comforted... :/
For me Yenna vs Triss is not a question about Geralt, it's a question for the players. .
As a completely unironic team Regis fan, I default to Yen as the choice romance because I love her.
If it were up to me, we’d make our favourite charming vampire romancable, but at the end of day that’s what fanfiction is for.
they really all need therapy 😭
Blood of Elves also says something along the lines of "she got off on his pain" in Triss' inner monologue if i remember well.

If I could plaster your conclusion speech on the face of the internet, I totally would. Your essays are top notch as always.
The answer remains simple: Everyone needs therapy. We can work out the rest afterwards.
Yenn for thee, Triss for me 🍎
I think that's the most honest way of looking at this whole debate. Most dudes just want a Triss, and that's great. Geralt doesn't.
Reading the books and playing the games i can conclude that Triss is a princess, beautiful, loving, carefree, mischievous at times and Yen is Queen cos well apart from Triss description that she also has, she's a force you don't want to f*ck with cos you know you'll end somewhere or you'll end dead.

I was so happy and now I am so sad. I Love your witcher videos, I thought you started making more...

I mean it is but by now that SHOULD be a given.
It is stated in the books that Yenn is Geralt's true love, so there's that.
I discovered your channel once you had already moved on to other non Witcher content. I support this new video!
It's a reupload, it just got slapped by RUclips because it had some very censored boobs in it at one point. I edited them out this time. 😅
I passed on both Triss and Yennifer and instead focused on being a good father figure for Ciri.
Great to see another video from you about the Witcher universe
Loved this video! Glad you reuploaded it! I'm definitely team Yen for Geralt of course and as a player. Didn't like Triss in the books, but the games made her more approachable for me, if that makes sense? Exploring her story was fun.
Here's my meager offering for the insatiable, unknowable Algorithm. We beg for its mercy.
New Witcher content!!! You are amazing!!!

I knew I had seen this one before...
During my play through, I never once found any appeal in Triss. I was always team Yen. That being said, I personally found Shani to be the most physically and intellectually attractive. She’s the only character that I have a statue of.
SUPPORT THE RE-UPLOAD!
Thank you for the support I really appreciate it ❤️
I mean she's a hot red-headed doctor who is kind and funny. The only thing is that she doesn't have any flaws, so she's not a woman...she must be a monster! Get the silver sword, ha ha.
Guys shani in witcher 3 is best girl
It's true and she's smart enough to walk away too 🥹
I played Wild Hunt before I read the books, and I was team Yen from the moment I read the Last Wish story in-game.
Hypothetically helpful comment for the algo bump.
Hypothetically I'm very grateful
Always team triss ❤
Tell people to leave a "bird dropping" a period. (.) A guy from Canada I follow calls it a "moose dropping."
I am, and, will always be, Team Yenn!
can't seem to find the old witcher play through. is it not in this channel any more?
I'm slowly moving all of my old content to a library channel, most Witcher stuff too. www.youtube.com/@theavianlibrary
@@ProperBird got it thanks
I think we can summarize everything by saying that all the characters are toxic and they do highly problematic things and are all broken. A lot of things that happen would get them arrested.
I think we can summarize everything by saying that we use the term "toxic" way too loosely and freely. Not every single problematic behaviour is "toxic".
@@awsome182The relationships between Yen and Geralt is toxic.
Wow i have never seen this video before, first time i have see this yep never before
Silent Hill 3 really ruined both our minds and memories 🥹
I thought that I misremembered lol I remember watching that video before (and I LOVED it!!!!). I'm personally on team Triss (but my opinion is mostly based on The Witcher 3 and in small part on the books). Idk, I think that while Yen and Geralt are destined, but I think that their back and fourth insults is a major sign of a toxic relationship, and I prefer the ending in The Witcher 3 when Geralt gets with Triss 😁 But I have to admit that your arguments are so convincing! 👏👏👏👏 I love your videos
Team Shani all the way
Almost 20 mins in... and yeah Triss seems like a monster wearing the likeness of a person. Yen is by no means innocent... but OMFG Triss.
Shani is the best girl
Watching the whole thing again, I need a refresher on why I never liked Triss
That's very sweet of you!
TEAM FREE THE BOBBAS🙏
I can't be the only one who doesn't pursue triss and rejects yen after the quest. It just seems like the most geralt thing and mine personally to do, so he can just live in peace with Roach and Ciri instead.
For the dreaded algorithm!!
At least this topic isn't as bad who Cloud from Final Fantasy VII is in love with
Tifa vs Aerith
I'm always team yennefer but against Geralt himself, since I read the books and could not stand him getting fat and sleeping with fringillia while yen was getting mega torture. I do see the appeal of game triss but she's just not my type, she is waaay too much of a goody goody
In his defense they did send the most Yennefer-looking sorceress other than Yen herself with the express purpose of getting him to stay.
Fair points, except Triss being too "goody goody" unless by that you mean cowardly and a bad friend. 😅
I conducted some "research", Triss has 4799 results, Yennefer has 5353 results and Roach (thankfully) has 0. Yennefer wins

I have been successfully baited. Hello, it's been a while. (Though i already know you'll make the right decision at the end!)
I promise I didn't mean to bait 😅
True I'm not getting notifications for your new vedios.
