Realizing you're in a dream, and going lucid, in the middle of a nightmare is the coolest thing ever.
And then absolutely flipping the nightmare on its head. 😌

im pretty much always lucid in my dreams, and since I have mostly nightmares, I've perfected the skill of being able to wake up at will. Sounds great but it means I wake up multiple times a night. the really shitty part is when im so sleepy i cant wake up properly and keep sliding back in

Over The Garden Wall does a lot of interesting things with dreams and the Oneroi. I would HEAVILY recommend watching that series; it’s only 10 episodes at 11 minutes each but it’s genuinely one of the best things I’ve ever seen.

Princess Luna, the night goddess from My Little Pony, is my favourite take on dreaming. They do some really interesting things with her in that series, and they even tie her into ideas clearly inspired by Carl Jung, who wrote a lot about dreams.
When I was younger, I used to have really wild dreams that went all over the place and had no rhyme or reason. These days, I mostly just wander around interesting landscapes, often familiar ones but with a twist, like a road from my hometown that eventually becomes serpentine and leads to a beautiful, peaceful beach. Or turning a corner on a familiar street and suddenly finding myself on yet another road, overlooking a small village below where each house has really tall chimneys and weathervanes. My latest dream environment was really cool, I was walking along abandoned, rusty train tracks in a vast plain on a sunny day, then I realized the horizon was, like, curving up, as if I was on the inside of the planet rather than the outisde, like Cocoon in Final Fantasy XIII.
I have also started lucid dreaming quite often, but never for long; the more I realize I'm dreaming and try to interact with the dream, the faster I wake up. Especially when I try entering a new room for example, it's like a game failing to load an environment and crashing to desktop. I also always feels like I'm on drugs and not in total control of my body when it happens, like I forget how to run and just limp weirdly, or wildly flail around at inhuman speeds.
For a long time I'd have a recurring dream where I was on a plane with bad turbulence then opened the cockpit door which lead to an underground cavern filled with water. In the water was a weird monster hunting me and the people I was with. The funniest thing is always the fact that the plane-cavern transition never seemed out of place

I recall as a kid I had a reoccurring dream of playing 4D (Star Trek) chess against Optimus Prime. This was late 80s
The greatest dream anyone has ever had and now I want a Transformers/Star Trek crossover.

I really can’t recall if I won or not but I do recall it being set inside a giant tube with the 80s teal and pink grid.
I ended up lucid dreaming a couple of times myself. Only for me to accidentally awake myself... because I wanted to make sure this was a dream. Yeah. Not very smart from me, but not sure how to stop it.
Also, a dream I used to have a lot during the last year, where I finally was able to end college, was me suddenly remembering I had 2 unfinished subjects. And that I had the final exam for both exactly tomorrow, that I hadn't studied a thing for neither, and that I couldn't deliver my final paper unless I passed both exams.
The dreaded "I didn't study for this test" dream, the worst. 😮💨

I have a repeating dream of being in math class in high-school, it's the dream that ends up lucid the most often for me as I graduated 6 years ago and my brain suddenly reminds me I'm asleep.
Definitely a fear of my teeth falling out. Coupled with occasional forgetting to go to class fears in spite of graduating...so many years back.
Dreams are highly underrated and people don't pay enough attention to them. Everyone should learn how to lucid dream
I'd like to try and train myself to do it one day, we'll see how that goes
I have, on multiple occasions, realized I was dreaming and gone lucid, only to continue having an unpleasent and boring dream. The only time I had any control, I decided to fly, sprouted butterfly wings (which was dissapointing), and then woke up.

Shortly after Inception came out I got fascinated with lucid dreaming myself. It was incredibly fun for a while but certain side effects such as sleep paralysis (including hallucinations) became quite common aswell. The benefits did not end up outweighing the bad.. Quite a horrible experience! When I stopped trying to remember my dreams quite quickly everything went back to normal luckily.

Oof, it does make sense for sleep paralysis to become more common while lucid dreaming. I wonder if there's a way around that one day too.
FWIW: Being able to CONTROL a dream would be great.

I'm guessing the dream about the Duracell bunny could be your brain being sassy with you, implying you need to rest more or conserve your energy.

Fever dreams are also very interesting to me, I once had a vivid fever dream, I cant really being to explain it well, it believe I was dreaming of doing a task infinitely like something futile, like making something and breaking it then to do it again forever and ever, and the dream somehow conveyed the feeling of eternally doing this futile thing, idk how to explain it but it was terrifying, I woke up screaming and ranting like a madman to my dad, very strange.
Lucid dreaming is such an interesting topic. I actually started to develop the ability in childhood, without even knowing what it was. At first, I learned how to tell if I was dreaming, around age six or so. Within a couple years, I mastered how to wake myself up (worked about 99.99% of the time). Around this time, when talking to my dad, he explained what it was, and that many people studied/practiced for a lifetime to learn lucid dreaming and never succeeded, and told me it was incredible that at my young age, I had already developed the ability without even knowing it.
By my preteen years, I'd even learned to control dreams, to some extent. I'd summon another monster to fight the one that was chasing me, as in, I did "Freddy vs Jason" long before Hollywood thought it up. And now, I can sorta control the dreams, changing things, but never quite as I intend, sorta like your intro shows. The few things I can control fully are things like stopping bullets mid-air, a la Neo in the Matrix; or the fact that I can always fly in my dreams, in fact, I can't walk. Best I can do is hover about 10cm above the ground...
I'm honestly a little jealous of anyone who can lucid dream like that, maybe one day. 😭
Sorry for a second reply, just finding the content incredibly interesting. Regarding sleep paralysis; some of us suffer from the opposite condition, called "REM behaviour disorder". That is where the limb paralysis does not always occur, so we "act out" our dreams. I often lash out violently with kicks, which exactly mimic what I'm doing in my dream. Sometimes it's violent enough movement that it wakes me up. Last night for example, I kicked out so violently I sent the covers (and both kitties) flying off the bed. The kitties were not impressed...
And for anybody reading this who has this as well, see your doctor. It's saddening to know, but 80% of people with REM behaviour disorder will go on to develop Parkinson's Disease. Which is why I have to see a Parkinson's specialist once a year for a check-up...
Also, the thing I find odd is that I dream. Most nights. I can remember a few from some time back but most fade in the day. The thing that is odd is that none are what I'd consider nightmares. They are odd and sometimes should be scary or sad but it is very rare I wake up feeling it.
Mostly they make no sense, I can recall them but describing them in a rational mind? Yeah I'm crazy I guess. This one is at least two weeks old but why was I dreaming of being in my old home's bedroom. I saw a calf a cow, and a bull outside in the corner. Trying to get through the night. At some point the bull was running around and noted to be without its front legs without the full leg below what might be the knee, I do not know the correct term.
Also, during this I apparently had some zombies enter the dream to eat the calf and I tried to get out the front door where 5 more zombies came in and I had to back off to watch them tear it apart in the window. This proceeded to become a vampire thing that we were hiding from them to try to I don't know, I forget at this point, win? I just know that is a dream I didn't write down and it stuck with me.

I woke up and wrote this down just before I saw you'd uploaded your latest vid. Thought I'd share it with you in case you were interested (or had some kind of clue what this could mean)
Dream: Heard the sound of automatic gunfire. When I investigated I witnessed a new local sport. a bunny was released at the end of the longest road here and had to make it to the other end while police officers lining the road were trying to hit it with assault rifles. I saw a row of bunnies at the other end who had made it. Some had ribbons on them. Bets were being taken in vegetables (I remember buying a bag of turnips for this, though one bag had the wrong vegetables in it and was leaking leaves,) and eggs. I remember someone mentioning lizard eggs. Last image I remember was seeing a bunny mutated into the shape of a werewolf, only still a bunny. I wondered if that was how they made it to the end, through the course. I tried taking some photos to send to TQ, only there were Police Officers in the way..
The oldest dream I remember is from when I was about 3 and talking dinosaurs kidnapped my father. That was probably around the time I saw Jurassic Park.
The other dream I remember is when i realized I was dreaming and I started a foodfight at an event because I knew there would be no consequences.
That or you accidentally dreamed about Dinosaurs the tv show. 😂
No dream that really stand out, but the whole "practicing for lucid dreaming" thing? So apparently I've been doing that for... 15 years. Had a lot of nightmares as a child, so went to a specialist and he told me to "bite my lip (I was a child, shame on you)" or pinch myself. Because when you dream you can't feel pain (No idea if that is true, certainly believed it tho.), so when you don't feel pain your dreaming and you can then wake up.... So if you see me pinch myself, or some other small way of causing pain, that me doing an unconscious reality check. So yea, I did learn something new today.

Here's the notes I managed to scribble down when I woke up a few weeks back. Feel free to interpret:
Dream: Lost in the dark in a heavy snowstorm. There's a woman with me who's being hunted by Jack the Ripper. I want to help her but I know it's been written that she's going to die. I see several corpses left by Jack but the only one I can focus on is that of Peter Rabbit who has two diamond shaped patches of skin/fur cut out of his back (like in Silence of the Lambs?).
What the heck, I guess he switched to rabbit fur. 🥶

Dream: ended with mirrors in eyes and eyes in mirrors again, someone had pressed something over my eyes (some kind of cloth/wipe?) to reveal them. Everything became mirrored in front of me which fractured. Forgetting something important. On the floor in my home but not home. I was screaming. There seem to be people everywhere but I'm alone No escape (still not sure that even death would end this). They weren't impressed I was using my usual “human expressions” That place really is Hell. People at my door, I'm under attack (started there I think).

@@AndrewD8Red I've been dealing with schizophrenia for most of my life. The Malk symbol seemed appropriate as I originally created this account to comment on a vid by a youtuber I now follow who was doing some VTM: Bloodlines playthroughs which I enjoyed. :)
real stuff:
my best dream was that i woke up in the morning and really needed to pee but as soon as i was awake, still in bed, it was gone. all of it. bed wasn't wet. it was just gone. it felt so good nto to have to wake up to the bathroom to physically pee. that made my day.
my worst nightmare i woke up to work and tried to put my belt on and it was too short, so it didn't reach the other side. i was running late to work and couldn't figure my belt out. it was important, i had a meeting. it was so frustrating and so stressful i woke up in the morning super early but still was stressed. the belt just didn't fit me, it was too short!
Last comment I swear, but I just got to the end and you asked about 'share an interesting dream'. This may require a little explanation, so forgive my autistic brain lol. I am Metis, which is the Canadian word for part indigenous. My paternal grandmother was indigenous. Among the North American indigenous people, they recognized no less than five genders. One of those is 'two spirited', both male and female in the same soul. I believe that is me, and the two halves live in harmony. I'm quite content to be male in the waking world, but VERY often in my dreams, I am female. Either cis female, or trans female. And it's an awesome experience :)
Growing up in the 80's/90's, I would often think about what it would be like to be female, but of course, back then, transgender was not really understood, supported, or tolerated; and being pre-internet, there was no ready access to information on it. I do often wonder how different a path my life would take if I was young now, instead of back then! :)
PS I know it's "never too late"; I have a lifelong friend of 30+ years who just recently transitioned at age 48. But as I mentioned above, I am quite content and at harrmony being two-spirited as I am :)
when i was a child i had a dream about the actor steve guttenberg, whom i had only heard of that point through a song number in the simpsons, though in spite of that , upon seeing him, i learned my dream iteration was almost identical. in the dream he was something of a supernatural figure, perhaps a god or demon of some sort, and we went on a date during a power outage at a nearby bar, and then he exploded my head like scar from fullmetal alchemist. i was 9

As for dreams, I have lucid-ish dreams fairly routinely - ones where I'm aware I'm dreaming, but can only influence, not control things - the more I tighten my grip on my dream, the more systems slip through my fingers... Actually guiding the dream without breaking it entirely is a balancing act...
I'd invite you to come to my house but, you know, it's far far away.
You can dream of a peach yellow house with a dark mahogany brown roof clay tiling and a 3m high dark gray iron railing, instead.
When you enter you'll feel the ground shake at every step of people walking by the driveway in front of the house, and when you call me in despair you start to eat an ice cream while a blood red sunrise appears, and I'm underneath the table trying to evade a thunderjaw. You scream again calling me, and we're both slapped.
And I wake up with my body shaking violently.
Yeah, I was playing horizon forbidden west last week. And don't worry it wasn't you, just a npc with me, and that's what I remember.

I really like this video! My most recurring dream I've had is of me running through a forest with a pack of wolves at my back but bit by bit the wolves disappear until only I'm only left. Once the last wolf left,a black,ghostly,giant wolf would appear before me and always repeat the same phrase

Although it's completely understandable, I feel the direction of the process presented here is incomplete, in the sense that the archetypes in dreams are indeed based on past experiences and concepts BUT these aspects are *then* used for relevance to solidify new experiences INTO new memories. Yes, it is a know fact that during dreaming, the short-term memories accumulated during the day are parsed and passed onto long term memory, which is why those areas of the brain light up. I say relevance because memory only works on what is relevant towards each specific purpose, which is why the archetypical nature of dreams is actually the only way this meta-cognitive process can work. You forget anything that does not 'make sense' but you only remember by first solidifying stuff INdirectly linked to purpose (subjectively as opposed to objectively - which is why dreams make absolutely no sense to anyone else but the individual). Without dreams it is entirely possible and most likely that the concept of memory would not exist.
I also wanted to say thank you for your work it is a masterful video and I really enjoyed it, but I just felt that really needed pointing out

I once dreamt of a method of time travel based on an algorithm using nocturnal intestinal gas expulsions to seed all the variables. I awoke certain it would work.
