Massive fan of yours.. I grew up in England in the 70's and did a lot of coarse fishing .. Moved to the US and really got into Bass fishing.. You should come over and do some fishing over here!
Great vid . Something ive learned recently is to not let the line go too slack when trying to unhook Soft plastic and jig head caught perch . Especially when holding the perch vertically with its head up . The weight of the jig head can cause the soft plastc and hook to slide further down the fishes mouth and into the fishes stomach . Although is rare it does happen , mainly when using barbless hooks . Enjoyed the vid and look forward to seeing more BFS vids . A big fat like from me !!!!
Wow! I can't believe what I'm watching. I just bought a bfs reel and it was the Dark Wolf Ultra, I guess I've done the right thing because Chris has the same one except I think my brakes have been upgraded. ❤
Yesss already smashed the like cannot wait to see your 1st bfs session. Been addicted to the bfs since I started cannot pick up another set up 🤣 so much fun
When i was younger in the 80's, i caught pike and perch on red thick elastic, the half inch wide 1mm thick stuff. I use to sea fish so i used size 4 Aberdeen hooks, hooked about 2-3mm down, then cut it to about 2-3 inch long. I had to put a AAA split shot or 2 on so i could cast on my 6ft Woolworths solid fiberglass rod in a dashing blue and a crappy reel that came with it. I had some nice fish, even caught whiting and mackerel on it too. Not one of my mates believed me until i got them to come with me as none of them really fished. But it worked and i wish i'd of stuck with fishing like that for the predators but got into, sea and course fishing which i still do.
Another excellent vid Chris. You can't seem to get away from the Pike, can you.? 😁 That Chub was a nice bonus, but those Perch were the stars of the show and that last fish was an absolute beauty.☺ How about a tipping with lobworms classic session, roving up and down in the river and dropping into your favourite big Perch swims. I think that's a vid for this time of the year.☺
I love pike... unless they're not my target species. Then they're just a massive pain in the ass haha. I've actually just filmed a video stalking perch on the canal using lobbies ;)
What an enjoyable video Chris, you really know no your fishing and make everything look so easy, carnt wait for the next one,. Do you do any sea fishing at all ?.
Great video as always . I shall just continue buying all the lures you recommend and continue to go out only to blank lol. guess its just the crappy polluted london canals.
First of all, thanks for your vids...love them! I decided to go for it and buy the combo. I opted for fluro. There are no instructions with the reel. Do you know what the line capacity is? Because they only gave me 50m of fluro...am I correct in thinking I need to put some other line on the reel first, before the fluro? I don't want to put the fluro on and then find out it's not enough to fill the spool? I've never even seen a baitcaster before in my life so it's all new to me. Thanks.
Excellent video Chris I been watching your fishing videos for a while now and they are very interesting and always something new and loads of information and tips keep up the good work, John one question what size do perch grow to?
Hi! I’m looking to fish small soft plastics on jig heads on my local canal targeting mostly perch and pike. I want to use a trace does anyone have any recommendations on which to use? I’ve been looking at fluorocarbon traces but don’t know much about them. Any help would be much appreciated Thanks!
If you havent found your answer already try looking for esox soft strand in about 10lb its cheap and really fine diameter and is pretty decent stuff it can kink sometimes if snag on stuff but its cheap so no biggy. You can get titanium stuff that doesnt kink up but its a bit more pricier. Fluro works good just get some decent stuff would be my advice i use seaguar abrazx works ok for me.
Why pliers ? Long nose pliers and a 6 inch pair of cutters (minimum length ) are a must if you care about the fish . Long nose forceps wouldnt have got a strong enough grip on the jig head to unhook that deep hooked perch he had and would have made unhooking that perch harder and caused more damage . With 6 inch cutters , if your having problems unhooking a deep hooked fish , you can cut the lead head off the jig head . You ll then be left with just the hook to remove . Its a lot easier to unhook deep hooked fish then and less likely kill the fish . I learned the hard way unfortunately and hope the fish survived . Forcepts are light and easy but not up to with deep hooked fish .
@@elwooddestiny11blues20 perch are strange fish today i had a tiny lead bomb out in the canal with a size 20 hook double pinky fishing for skimmers but i was catching perch hooking them in the lip like a carp, i had a float rod out as well in the edge an every perch i caught i had to discourge the hook out had a pb as well about 2 lb
@@catalickconverta6823 Agree mate . Perch are a strange fish . Congrats on the PB . I had my pb last week at 2lb 7 oz . Caught it on a lure from Regents canal . Maybe the big fish are starting to show now the weathers changing .
I caught a nice pb perch earlier on i reckon close to 2lb was defo over a pound an half had a few other perch an a nice roach just fishing maggot strugling to catch anything on lures or spinners
Congrats on the pb. Sometimes they just really have to be on it. usually the bigger perch are easier to tempt on river. At least that's what i've found.
This guy could get alot of fun out of a shimano dc reel Edit: or softjerks, since you can really control depth quite well with those because of the slow sinking.
How does it feel to be using this set up ? Compared to your normal spinning reel and rod. I’ve never been interested in the bait casting gear. Do you think I’m missing out on something ? Thanks for the great video’s
I bought myself a light lure rod and some little jig lures yesterday, after watching your vids on that kind of fishing. Went for the bargain basement Shimano FX-XT for just over 40 quid for rid and reel. Not had all that much success yet, but hoping for a few little (and big) canal perch and a lot of fun. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼
Its highly illegal to eat fish caught from the river here in the UK -- Although a certain demographic have ignored this in its entirety and still do. Its totally decimated fish stocks over the last decade when it comes to the likes of big canal pike and carp. Though the issue isnt as severe the further up north you go because these folks prefer living in a big city due to the amount of jobs and work they can get.
Not much you can do with a deep hooked perch like that mate, had it happen to me occasionally, its never nice its just part of the sport I guess. Another good video, inspired me to dust off the bfs tackle and get back out! Quick question I can't see on the video, when fishing over to the far margin in the clear water are you sight fishing? Or just fishing to that specific feature? Deep hole, far margin ext? Many thanks
To answer your question: All of the above buddy. If i see fishy shapes i'll cast. if its an over hanging tree i'll cast and same if it looks like a deep hole. and last but not least large weed patches creating small areas of slack water.
The pike is a fantastic survivor it has been persecuted through the centuries but still thrives. A bit like a fox really. It is so beautiful too.
Nice video ginge😉 ..love it an yeah I think I'd like to see some more perch fishing 🐟🐟🪱🪱🦠🦠🎣🎣
Haven't been fishing for decades, but really enjoying your channel.
The way you flick the lure towards the overhanging trees is epic if it was me I would have lost all my kit 😂👍👌

Keep up the good videos 👍
Where can I get the second lure, many thanks. Great video!
What would you use for clear water on an overcast day , water we fish is around 4ft deep
Saw one of your videos the other day talking about catchphrases. Got to be "choked it" or "not bought my scales" 😂
What weedless Hooks are they?

Nice got a 43cm perch yesterday on a 7-8 inch jig fly crazy
Was i the only one that noticed the little jacked at the right botten at 8:50 or was it a chub?
So amazing ...😉👍

Question I am from USA and wanted to know what kind of perch you are catching and are they edible? Looks similar to yellow perch!
Catch and release ,when fishing for perch in the 🇬🇧 uk
