    • @themechanic345
      @themechanic345 10 лет назад

      JerOutlaw Whoa buddy. I understand the NHRA rules, but I think it's retarded that if a vehicle runs faster than what it's outfitted for it gets disqualified, but only in some cases. This is a prime example of what I'm talking about. This is the Diesel Power Challenge, a competition for built diesel trucks to show of what they've got. There's no need to bring the NHRA into this at all... Could've ran a 1/4 mile somewhere else and gotten true times instead of this regulated bullshit.

    6:37 *Great Strategy:* Kaufman (Red Dodge) knew Miller (White Dodge) would slow down and try to race him to the line (like he did with Anderson at 3:08), because Miller didn't want to go faster than 11.5s (he had been warned at 2:15). Kaufman didn't start off with as much boost, then pedaled it, and by the time he caught up, he was a lot faster than Miller and managed to hold him off past the finish line.

    • @STAG162
      @STAG162 10 лет назад +4

      The faster they go, the more safety measures they need in the truck. Eg. if they run < 11.5 it's a roll cage, if it's < 10.0 it needs something else, next bracket down it might need wheelie bars, then a chute, etc. Different countries and regulatory bodies have different standards.

    I'm still at a loss to understand why in the previous event when they were pulling the skid steers behind them, they weren't required to wear helmets. Now they're on the same track doing the same thing over twice the distance with nothing being towed behind, they gotta wear helmets. I know it's about safety, but why not wear a helmet while doing the 1/8th mile pull as well? Strange rules.

    • @cobratuner
      @cobratuner 10 лет назад +4

      The drag event when they were towing was only the 1/8 mile at much lower speeds. Not the quarter.

    • @STAG162
      @STAG162 10 лет назад

      Here in Australia, if you're hitting any regulated dragstrip, be it 1/4 mile or 1/8th mile, you're required to wear a helmet, even before your car goes in for scrutineering, you gotta have yourself sorted before the car is sorted, and there's no half-measures.

    • @IBAdrianHarris
      @IBAdrianHarris 10 лет назад +2

      STAG162 NHRA (and NHDRA) rules here state for vehicles 14.00 Seconds & Slower 1/4 mile (8.60 1/8 mile) you don't require a helmet. www.nhrda.com/drag_racing_rules.php

      @TwoWheeledBooBear 10 лет назад +1

      STAG162 They were hitting 65-70mph at best on the 3rd day of challenges. There's a big safety gap between 65-70 and 120mph. While I still think it's silly, it's very easy to manage a vehicle at 65-70, trailer or otherwise, compared to a truck doing 120+

      XL1200C Sportster = 12.99 sec (Motorcycle News, 12/03)

    This reminds me why diesel trucks are stupid. Almost all of these trucks have experienced technical issues at one point or another. Gasoline cars are so much more predictable and reliable. Underground Racing has a 2000 horsepower Gallardo that makes 1700 lb ft of torque and it can make 8 second passes all day without so much as a belt coming loose. These things force out an injector after one run.

    • @ariclewis4003
      @ariclewis4003 8 лет назад +2

      I bet that Gallardo won't pull a 30,000lb load down the highway. not to mention it weighs a 1/4 of what these trucks weigh. So, I would say as a comparison, the Italians need to step there game up. these trucks were never designed to put this kind of power to the ground. besides, if you think Deisel trucks are so stupid, why are you watching a video comprised of only...you guessed it, DIESEL TRUCKS!?

    • @24thMandark
      @24thMandark 8 лет назад

      +Aric Lewis If you stuck a fifth on that Gallardo and reinforced the suspension I doubt it would hesitate to tow 30,000 pounds, it makes more than double the torque of any diesel truck on the market that's rated to tow that much. I watched this video because I think watching all the mechanical failures are pretty funny, I like to see how many trucks can actually finish the competition every year.

    • @ariclewis4003
      @ariclewis4003 8 лет назад

      +alexander vick the body, the clutch, not the engine would be able to do it. you would have to review the engine way to high to make the torque, in turn burning the clutch up and the body would more than likely break engine, trans, and suspension mounts, totaling the car. That RUclips mechanics degree is worth what you paid for it

    Everyone shut up about black smoke.
    THIS IS CAUSED BY AN IMPROPER COMBUSTION EFFICIENCY.
    Look at ANY Banks power trucks, and no smoke. They don't use DPFs, just a great tune, with the proper a/f.

    Is there a reason these trucks don't run some sort of Drag radial? Dirt tires don't seem the most efficient way of gaining traction.
    And WTF is up with truck aerodynamics. Are they even trying?!

    • @eidolonbreed
      @eidolonbreed 10 лет назад

      From a physics prospective it's hard to believe such heavy trucks can run so fast. So no I'm not dumb you idiot. They are supercharged and turbo charged, so that makes more sense. I was making a simple observation. No need to insult me.

    • @reggiegangwish5539
      @reggiegangwish5539 10 лет назад

      eidolonbreed all diesel trucks are turbocharged from factory, they mod it by changing exhaust, injectors, adding a tuner, etc. -_-

    • @gigakuch7204
      @gigakuch7204 3 года назад

      @@reggiegangwish5539 "all diesels are turboed from the factory" totally not true. Chev/Detroit 6.2 comes to mind, or the 80s fprd 6.9/7.3idi diesels. Straight NA.
