The Finn Bros of New Zealand were originally in the Split Enz, a new-wave band, then founded Crowded House, which had several great albums with hit songs. Neil Finn is a brilliant songwriter.
Love "I Got You" from the very day of it's release,, till this very day..At the time of it's release,, it was so unique/different from anything else...Because of that,, it was the "Breath Of Fresh Air" music/we truly needed at the time..Also,, What was funny to me then & even funnier to me today is that at the time of it's release,, there was a fair amount of people who would act/say things like,, "They just couldn't handle it" or similar statements..The best way I could describe their actions and/or statements is like as if someone just played/forced them to listen to the MOST HARDCORE punk rock EVER MADE,, which is exactly why then & now I still find that hilarious,, now of course it was FAR from it...BUT over time they would end up accepting it,, really liking the song & realizing that they had REALLY over-reacted to the truly different/unique/sound/song.
Ah man, that guitar intro instantly takes me back to that era. I had just moved to the big city, my first apartment. Started a new job - and this new band came out with a fantastic album. I knew of Neil from his Split Enz days & was captivated by the new direction he was taking. Great song. RIP Paul Hester, gone far too soon.
Years ago they had a TV miniseries of Stephen King's The Stand. This song was featured in it and up until then I'd never gave it a second listen, but it's actually a great song and fit the story well too.
I saw the House three times, between 1991-‘94, and Neil Finn once, solo in ‘98. Very glad they do continue to make albums, still. While this was their first big hit song, it is so brilliant, emotional, and true - and, their audience sings along with.
" you never see the end of the road while traveling with me" Is a line so special to me, I worked on board passenger trains (amtrak) for 30 years ......
That sound of the echoes or reverb in the song takes us in the 80's and the organ take us to 1965. It is a social message about humanity not letting governments divide us as a race of people.
CH had dozens of excellent songs beyond their few hit singles. The _Woodface_ album alone has lots of fine melodies, etc. Check out that LP (and others).
One of the members Nick Seymour has a brother called Mark.He had a band called Hunters And Collectors. An absolutely amazing Aussie band.Give 'em a listen 👍👍
I second that...love Hunters and Collectors! (Just want to caution that some of their official Vevo videos have very bad sound quality...the audio-only/lyric versions are safer I think.)
This is one of those rare albums where every single song is excellent. You can listen to the entire album from start to finish without having to skip a song you don’t like. I had several copies of it back when it came out. I’d lose one or one would be damaged and I’d go buy another, it was that good. 🙂
First saw them at Parker's on Aurora Ave (north Seattle) 1986 at the start of their 1st show US tour. Then about another handful of times throughout the years (including a shown with Roger McGuinn of The Byrds).
@@kimn9802 Neil was (and is) their songwriter and lead singer, and Tim Finn was in the band for a while too and co-wrote some of their biggest hits. NZ has as much reason to claim them as Australia does, IMO.
@@intothesunset3 I was referring to the original line up when the song was released which is the line up in the video. Unfortunately Paul Hester is no longer with us, Ultimately who cares. Great band.
@@kimn9802 it's not so much the numbers - (because Tim Finn was also a member at times) - but the band was formed in Melbourne, while Neil lived in Melbourne. And as a business entity, it was created in Australia.
Oceanias greatest band. Neil Finn is up there with Lennon and McCartney as a song writer. Try ‘Weather with you’ and ‘Don’t stop now’ but there are many many great songs by them
The only comments about the meaning come from a band member about consumerism and mass media. The idea that we are being separated from each other by the whole idea of "Keeping up with the Jones". I'm skeptical of that because it seems that the lyrics are way too vague to draw any conclusions.
Thanks for this reaction. Very proud of the band and the Finn boys here in New Zealand.
Although I am a Native American,, I can truly appreciate & understand why.
Yep I second that, from another proud Kiwi
So glad you reacted to this, thank you😊 One of my favorite songs of all time, by my favorite band.💖
The organ in this has always remined me of "A whiter Shade of Pale."

Paul McCartney says you’re the best songwriter ever, that’s how good Neil Finn is
I owned the Slit Enz album in colored laser vinyl 😁

This song takes me back….great tune!!
When Paul McCartney says he wishes he'd written this song you know you've done something right.

What a hook!!!?? One of the best out there. Perfectly sung with that Australian accent.
Crowded House "Fall At Your Feet" (My personal favorite) & "Pineapple Head"
I definitely remember this song, it was one of my favorites
A great song, awesome!
A real Masterpiece!

This ABSOLUTE MUST HEAR Classic is such a TOTAL VIBE that people have made 1-12 hour loops of the track,, Black Sabbath "Planet Caravan" 📡🌍🌛🧿🪐🌞🌓🚀
Split Enz "I Got You"..A Must hear classic.

There's a great video on YT of Neil Finn with Stevie Nicks, and they do Landslide and Don't Dream It's Over. Magic!

😅please do more Crowded House...my family's favorite group bar none...great channel btw😊
One of the best 60s tunes not from the 60s
-We can see a classic scene with this song, on the TV show "Miami Vice" in the 1980's, (in last scene of the episode: 'Rock and a Hard Place')
Rip Paul Hester great kiwi band
Three members. Paul Hester and Nick Seymour were Aussies. Therefore an Aussie band by numbers.

Love this song! Don't you guys think Andrew Garfield looks like young Neil?
