2024 TACOMA VS 2023 TACOMA PRO OFFROADING TEST! Which one is the winner!?

  • We took my 2024 tacoma TRD off-road and Andrew's 2023 Tacoma Pro to a rough trail here in southern Utah to test offroad capabilities. The 24s transmission got hot at one point but that may have been due to user incompetence. The old reliable 23 had no issues but seemed to not perform as well in 4 Low.

    That’s a crappy 4H if it can’t handle Toquerville Falls road. There’s nothing on that road that would make me use 4L in my Land Cruiser. Hopefully we’ll see Toyota dial in these new trucks soon. If I was buying a medium truck today I’d get a ZR2 Bison or Ranger Raptor over the G4 Tacoma, and my last 5 cars have all been Toyota or Lexus.

      @truthnow902 3 месяца назад +5

      @@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD yeah but it didn't look very steep at all and I also noticed it did not take long for two reasons that wasn't even much pressure on the transmission, the older generation Tacoma sorry the third generation did the same climb in the transmission did not overheat. Also in the case what if the vehicle is all wheel drive and it doesn't have a low like the Honda Ridgeline or SUVs with all-wheel drive they would make it up there no problem this is the first time on something like this I heard of a transmission overheating, without pulling any load at all or pushing large amounts of snow. We should not fool ourselves does transmission is not very good at all and other people have complained about the transmission overheating as well so this truck is not the first one other people's Transmissions also went on them they needed a full replacement. It's obvious to me Toyota does not care about quality anymore!!!!

In my 3rd Gen, I take off the mud flaps and add my hitch skid to the receiver to save the rear bumper I put the mud flaps back on when the trip is complete.. Good video overall. Yeah I mentioned at the end that I’ve never really rock crawled before. I’ve always had trucks and done a ton of dirt roads, mud and snow but never really crawled. I’ve also been taught that you don’t put it in 4L till you get stuck😂 I do have a pretty decent understanding of how the machine works this so after it overheated I wondered if the lower gear ratio would make it so it didn’t have to work as hard and it worked👍
      It was cool to take the 2 trucks out and compare them. And as much as I like my 4th gen I have to say, that 3rd gen pro is beautiful. But his mudflaps were definitely in the way😂 I have a video where I kinda complained about how the 4th gen mudflaps don’t do jack for containing the rocks and stuff. But they were definitely better at not hitting thing on the trail😂

    Why would anyone buy a truck that is overpriced with engine and transmission failures not to mention replacing a strong V6 and V8 with a turbo L4 because their engineers apparently are not smart enough to design. They created an electric truck and claimed specifications that are borderline fraud. I have owned Toyota trucks for over 20 years to include Tacoma’s and Tundras but I just replaced my old Tundra with a Honda Ridgeline Black Edition and I am very pleased with it to include the V6. I am done with Toyota Trucks they are much too arrogant and absolutely ignore the customer's wants and needs. Over the years when I have complained about issues and I address the executives I always get a call from a woman admin type for the executive office with boiler plate excuses and apologies. Toyota does not care about its customers just the bottom line. They will not rein in their rogue dealers who add on exorbitant markups, fees and addons claiming they have no leverage which is ridiculous. If it is true than Toyota attorneys and management do not know how to write contracts or again just don't care. I am done with Toyota trucks let those with money to throw away or burn buy them. @jackcrackerman that’s a good idea. I like the page I showed in my gauges with all the temperatures. I usually use that for towing. I didn’t even think to use it for off-roading😂

      New 2024 tacos have transmission problems look it up on RUclips, manual and automatic transmissions, and I think they also did away with trans cooler, they are also breaking top shock mounts so if off roading be prepared for issues, these are no longer quality trucks being built.

    Great Video! After seeing the 3rd Gen next to a 4th Gen I think I still love my 3rd Gen better. You definitely needed to be in 4 low for the hills you climbed so I think the trans getting hot could be contributed to that. Could you do another video at Sand Hollow with both trucks?

    In the middle of buying one. I don’t know if I should go with the upgrade or the premium. Premium is really expensive and I really don’t want the power tail gate. I also don’t want the 360 camera but I do want everything else and the front camera.

    • @counterfeitcowboy1362
      @counterfeitcowboy1362  3 месяца назад +1

      Yeah that’s a tough one. My least favorite feature in the premium package is probably the power tailgate. It can be handy for loading the dogs tho😂 I love the 360 camera. I used the heck out of that camera on this trail. It helps you see the rocks to the side of the truck. That was one of the main reasons I got the premium package. It also has a bed camera.

    Cannot even pay me to buy that truck with a four banger no more power than that it sounds like a broken sewing machine it’s really sad that Toyota did this to their best selling vehicle. I am so glad I bought a 2023 and did not wait for the 2024

    • @kevinbradley8613

      You should try driving one before you judge. I’m glad you like your 3rd gen. They’re great trucks, but in my objective opinion, the “four banger” actually sounds better than the v6, and it makes a decent bit more torque (especially at low rpms) and the exact same power as the v6 (also at lower rpms). There’s a lot of BS going around about these new trucks, and almost 100% of it is completely unfounded. Go drive one yourself and then be the critic all you want, but until you do, you’re just speaking foolishness.
