You didn’t ask him the hardest question which is why is it $10K more than a Raptor and ZR2 ??
Because they stuffed 600 lbs of batteries and electric motors in it so it could still be slower, heavier and more complex!
Build out ZR2 bison with steel bumpers ect . Y’all ain’t comparing apples to apples . 60 plus k for the bison
@@Ttya-bm4gk even the zr2 bison is 6 grand cheaper than the basic TRD pro lmfao
Toyota moves their Tacoma plant 100 percent to Mexico with cheaper labor then puts a 4 cylinder turbo with a battery in for a power plant and asks 10K more for there trucks, come on Toyota we are not stupid people no wonder why the dealerships are filling up with Tacomas!
The TRD pro is a $23k increase 😵💫
@@oweny7814 going off a different companies numbers I saw. Mexican built cost -3000. Canada built -1500 vs USA With it costing about 3800 per car in Mexico. And 7000 in the USA. Pre new uaw contract.

Agreed, does sound a bit like Nathan.
Looks a bit like Nathan too 😆

As an average worker in the USA, this is beyond my purchasing power. But I can dream.
Rumor is small truck is coming from Toyota soon. $25k
Agreed, In California with 8% tax add in 20% down with todays interest rates the payment is pushing $900.00 at 72 months. And that is not factoring the dealers "market adjustment" which you know will be 15-25k… Someone in CA is already running 15K mark up on the new land cruiser.
@@MH_6160 there are plenty of dealers not doing markups. Some people are even reserving Pros and Trailhunters for MSRP. Let the greedy dealers starve.
@MH_6160 I go to longo in El monte. They don't do any mark up.

4 “hard” questions and no explanation for the front axle going out on your Tacoma from the chief engineer? What a lost opportunity.
chief sales engineer = a corporate mouthpeice with an eating disorder.
Needed a midsized. Got a 2023 frontier pro 4x with every single option CPO with 7k miles on it for 34k.
Absolutely love it. Actually waited for these to come out before I made my decision. 65k? Toyota made the choice easy for me.
Good catch!
Discounts on new Frontiers are available.
Smart move by Nissan to keep the V6. From the forums and all of the comments I have read, it seems like a LOT of people are switching over
yup that’s my choice next truck and way better I think V6! Cheaper fully loaded!
Great video, thx!
The great confusion for me is... the price.
Glad it was helpful!
Why is it confusing that a bigger screen, turbo, electric motor and batteries are going to cost more than the outgoing model which had none of those?
@@Captndartyyou know what they meant so be rude , have actual dialogue. 😊
@@LafemmebearMusic I did. I just educated someone as to why this truck is so much more expensive than the outgoing model.
@@Captndarty There is nothing new or revolutionary on this new truck to justify that price. If you are willing to pay that much more, fork a few more grands and get a Rivian instead, at least that truck is quite impressive in all aspect.
Power tailgate is silly on a midsize truck. Extra cost that’s not necessary. Fine with dampened tailgate.
This guy sounds like he's related to Nathan, LOL
those damper seats are so stupid when they open the back door and you see the 3 inches of legroom haha
Its an issue definitely, but personally, I don't mind, owned a truck for 7 years and never once i sat in the back lol
Most people buying TRD pros aren't packing a family in. Like they said, it's meant for desert running and off-roading. It's not meant to be a family hauler.
@@braalo07😂😂😂wait until those gimmick seats fail right after the 36k warranty is up and it costs you $4-5k for seat.
@@carbonking53 they could definitely fail but yeah failure is part of automotive industry. Not as worse at Ford and GM engine and gearbox failures which cost more to replace
@@braalo07 Nice whataboutism deflection.
Where is our Ford Maverick competitor? Tacoma and Tundra are to big. We need the Toyota Stout, STAT.
HILUX

Zillion dollar truck for its class and still hood stick in 2024 😂

Trailhunter ones look much better imo
and Ugly AF 🤮
The price is bewildering when a ZR2 can be had for 15k less and a Raptor or AT4x for ~8k less. Hell, you can get a respectively optioned Tremor, Trail Boss, Ram Rebel, or an AT4 optioned at this price point. Companies are just lost in our economy, and somebody needs to do hard hitting journalism on it. (PS, love the channel, just would love to see them challenged on their positions.)
Being a toyota truck enthusiast used to mean getting an affordable truck that would last longer than the competition. All the people complaining about aging platforms and not enough tech , well here you go and now the prices reflect that too. Congrats, good looking trucks but the prices are ridiculous. Making the Hybrid optional not required on pro and trail hunter would have been nice. the Hybrid system is a big turn off for a lot of people and not really even necessary. We will keep our 22' 4 runner.
Exactly!! The mob of people complaining that Toyotas are outdated and doesn’t have the fancy gizmos are the same people bitching about price! The whole point about Toyotas is to keep things old school and simple which equals….RELIABILITY.
Me 2 2023 4runner
Is not that high tech compare to ford and gmc. Still way back behind.
@@ironchung30Have you looked at the price of the competitors with the fancy gizmos? They arnt $65k. A Ranger Raptor comes basically loaded for 56k and a ZR2 tops out around $53k as long as you don’t get the Bison package
@@Jay-me7gw I agree it’s overpriced compared to competitors. The ZR2 maybe the better bang for buck IF…that 2.7L turbo is as durable as the engineers claim it to be. It would be super nice to see an American brand match a Toyota on reliability. We’ll see though. If Toyota can outlast the GMs and Fords by 200K miles (as they always have) then the $65K price might be justified.
Im just mad that no one has the balls to tell them how much they pissed everyone off with a 4banger turbo
Just gotta wait to see if its any good
lol I think they know
And the price.
yep i agree tiny over worked engine it not cool
Its great to see the truck from an Engineering point of view .
Let's ask the tough question... will there be fake hood scoops?
always lol
The back seats in the pro seem kinda useless with those shocks in the front seats.
These trucks are expensive, but you all ask for more features and Toyota gave them to you and now you’re pissing and moaning about the cost. Turbos, batteries, electric motors, bigger screens, suspension seats, disconnecting sway bars, on board compressors Yeah those don’t cost anything. Humans suck.
You suck?
You're refreshing. Toyota is damned no matter what they do
In addition, current owners whining about the replacing of the thirsty V6, forgetting that Vehicle manufacturers need to comply with emission regulations and also need to appeal to new buyers who never owned the Taco before
@@braalo07They aren’t more fuel efficient though. Toyota admitted they are using the electrification for performance.
This truck doesn’t have much more capability than the previous generation that was 20% cheaper and wayyyy more reliable. There is this thing called a “base model” which is supposed to be cheaper without all the bells and whistles.
You can keep those Tacos wrapped in plastic bubbles for future generations!
Because Toyota prices are from the future!
65K for mid size 4 cylinder trucks that battery will need to be replaced in 10 years. ?
This is joke, and complexity of that car , yes car is just too much. That always was simple truck but now days they made too complex off road car for 70 K after taxes. No thanks 🤷♂️
Toyota’ s inflation adjustment vent to far into the future!
This is greed!
But Toyota knows the true Toyota fanboys will still buy it, it could possibly be the most unreliable truck in 2024 and the fanboys will defend it with every keystroke saying it was a designed part to fail and still buy it 😂
the trd pro is 65k. one can get into the hybrid max powertrain for $41k
Nice FAKE extras width on the Pro and TH. Toyota used wheel offset and plastic flares INSTEAD of wider axles.
What a joke!! 😂🤡
PS Nice SUV tires 😂
I concur!
ASK HIM WHY ITS TOO EXPENSIVE
PoRe People still cra- INg about the high price 😂😂😂
Im happy this truck will be expensive. Less of theM! Boss ride! Nek BreeKer! that way these lil boyz can just stare while I drive my TACOMA TRD PRO. I can picture it now.....
That's the raptor you are referring. Definitely more rare than any of these models
Let it go, lookser!
The higher trim Tacoma prices are insane! Ford nailed it with the new Ranger Raptor. I'm a Toyota fan but I'd probably purchase a basic 1/2 ton over the Tacoma.
Manual Adjustable shocks on a sxs isn’t bad, but no one wants to lay on the ground to adjust them in a 70k truck.
Especially after an off-road trip and it's covered in mud.
I won't have that problem in my ranger raptor on order and it's 10k less
@@Dusdaddy or say you forgot until after you’re on the trail
This Is a dream for long life and repair ability for the world wide market. 10 years from now your not looking for some priority shock that hasn’t been made in 5 years. This a good for aftermarket and end consumer for consumable parts.
@@rjejames28 Not the best system either. When it breaks, you lose a lot of features.
Great engineering but Toyota is out of their mind charging $65k!
Question 1 why not engine cover? Want to be careful with our money and only put in essential parts.
Question 2 - is hood scoop real or fake. - It’s fake.
شكرا لك اخي الكريم تحيه لك من اليمن يعطيكم العافية
You should have asked him why Toyota is charging so damn much if they've implemented significant cost savings measures in manufacturing (TNGA-F, plants in Mexico, etc)
They’ll never ask.
@AllxLegitx808 I realize this. They won't want to burn that bridge, which is understandable. But in one of their many other vids, they always skip over this point. They tout TNGA-F as this big advantage.... and it is, for Toyota's bottom line. I'm sure Toyota did their homework in balancing out the platform for different builds, but ultimately, it's done for cost efficiency, and it does not appear that's being passed on to the customer
Omg. I've thought about how sway bar disconnects worked for years.. But I never saw a video on it until now.. And wow.. It is sooo much simpler than I had designed it in my mind... Jeesh.. Thanks tfl
You're welcome!
Before I really thought one end of the sway bar really disconnected. This makes more sense now😂
Dumbass questions that Andrea guy is so childish
I always thought how does it connect back up so easy! Makes sense now
I honestly thought it must be like cable endlinks that loosened up when u hit the disconnect button... I'm honestly amazed and wish I would have actually googled it instead of spending so much time just thinking about it
That engineer lools like he should be developing heavy-duty diesels for Mack Trucks, not Tacomas...
I agree with Roman on the tiny volume knob. My 22 Highlander xse has it and it’s awkward to use.
Hard Questions!? lol you can ask about anything you want and you ask about the engine covers, hood scoop, back seat and shocks these are softball questions at best. Why don't you ask will the turbo last as long as the N/A engines? How much more maintenance/cost is involved with turbo and hybrid to the customers. How much will turbo/battery swap cost customer over the years of ownership? These are examples of HARD questions, that why I dislike TFL, have to kiss butt to still be invited to events to review. But no its fine because its Toyota everything is just fine lol.
Having had Fox on a pro I can safely say. Never again. You are paying for a sticker with china made quality. I will take the OME any day.
Love how they act like its a good thing to share the frame across different platforms. The only thing thats good for is saving them money.
Or maybe it's not good to use a full size frame for a midsize truck🤷
@@marklihsuwhy not?
My 2024 broke after one day. Dealership has it and it’s been two weeks. Part not available. Guess I’m not TFL so they aren’t worried about helping me with my 50k truck purchase.

You would think one of the questions asked during this video would be about how much suspension is available upfront and in the rear for the trd pro model… 💤
Should have asked with the front diff seems fragile.
My question: Why is it so damn expensive?? If it's made in Mexico it should be cheaper. Right?
Way too much money..The reliability will go down as it has with the last gen..the hybrid is just a lot of garbage trying to get people to justify that price..This is the craziest pricing I have ever seen.when the hybrid battery dies the truck is just a lawn ornament..it won’t crank without that battery😢
Why no questions about them repeatedly lying about the 1700lb payload?
45 more pounds is the extra payload? What happened to the 1700 lb rating that was spoken about?
A Sport 4wd actually has more payload at 1270. Overall, pretty shitty for such a stout frame.
The increased prices will kill the Tacoma. $8-$10k increase is insane.
Id like to know whats going on with thr new Hilux and if the Fortuner is continuing as a separate model, being axed or will be a rebadged new 4runner.
To complete Toyotas 4x4 lineup
Hilux=Taco and Fortuner=4Runner with a 2.8, 2.4 Diesel
What a nice job that Nathan's brother has 😊. Thank you all friends, an extremely useful content for the automobile geeks like myself.
Great informative video. Love it.
Roman, you forgot the one tough question that bothers you and that's no automatic 4wd
That's so cool! I didnt realize Nathan was a Toytota engineer.
Everyone is here complaining about the TRD Pro and Trailhunter pricing like they're supposed to be budget vehicles. 99% of buyers don't need these trims. You're buying a name and some extra goodies. Toyota knows they'll still sell and it'll also make it a more exclusive trim for those who do buy them.
It isn't just that they are expensive. They are thousands MORE money than vehicles that have more capability (Raptor, ZR2).
@@triggerjerk01 Right. But Toyota knows people will buy them anyway because they're the cool trims. They could have chosen to limit production to 5000 units like the Land Cruiser First Edition, but this way, making a lot more money with basically zero downside for them.
Guaranteed the TRD Pro and Trailhunter will have the longest wait list to get. They will be impossible to get for the first few years. They are expensive as is but the dealers will be able to command even more for them. Lots of cool tech that will drive the demand for them. Yeah, not everyone needs it but everyone wants it.
@@jensalan What is your point? People are very vocally complaining. This would be the first step in some buyers actually waking up to the fact Toyota is ripping them off.
The price ont hese will be used to try and make a $40k entry level truck look good by comparison. Inflation all around.
Love these interviews with engineers. It helps with understanding why they did certain things e.g. about the engine cover missing. Also when talking to engineers about something they are more factual, and tend not to add marketing fluff about why something is done a certain way.
You forgot to ask him the most important question!!
How many TRD Pros and Trailhunters are they going to make this year. Local dealers are saying they will only get 1 or 2 per dealership for the year.
Big price for a small truck.
Isn’t there some sort of volume knob enlarger adapter that you could fit over the tiny volume knob just to make it bigger?
True but for these prices you shouldn’t have to
Tough questions... Didn't even ask about the ADD that grenaded itself on a mild 4x4 trail in a very lightly loaded brand new Tacoma, your brand new Tacoma...
Sheldon did a great job and overall a really great overview of the new products.
Excellent convo, you guys asked a bunch of great questions! I can't wait to see a similar breakdown of the 4runner models when they are released.
I foresee Nissan selling a ton of V6 Frontiers. You can have the 4banger turbo.
Ask him why the RAM RHO is only 4k more

Great to hear details from Sheldon Brown. Gives us insight to the new TRD Pro and Trailhunter.
I'd like to know why you can't get a long bed with a manual? Why even offer it?
You want to know why you can't get it AND you want to know why they should even offer it?..ummm?
@@Jeremya74 Reading comprehension…
Because nobody wants it DUH
Imagine buying one of these when you could buy a 1 ton American made truck for less.
You can use that for anything. Imagine spending $25K and buying a small cross-over? The 1-ton won't do what this does and the sedan won't either.
Imagine thinking Ford,Chev and Dodge are American made and not filled with Chinese parts 😂 Also Tundra is 60 percent American....more then your precious big 3
@@christrarback9748 Exactly. Which is why I like looking at the source of parts as well because that means more American businesses and workers.
@@christrarback9748 my Super Duty is more American than the Tundra. Nice try
@cstgx 🤣🤣🤣🤣 not if it's a 2023 60 percent for the Tundra and 50 percent for Ford. Do people like you even look shit up before talking . Maybe if your ford is 20 years old sure but that doesn't matter for this argument as we are talking new vehicles in this Video
Should have grilled him on the price, and the reliability of the power train. Those are the two biggest issues people have with the new Tacos...
Does anyone know if you can get the air compressor on any other models or is it exclusive to the Trailhunter?
Looks like it's exclusive to trailhunter, at least standard. It wasn't on the TRD pro. Maybe it'll be offered as an option.
Dude totally sounds like Nathan!
Please ask Sheldon next time to fix the Tundra's ugly face and rear.
Sheldon is Tacoma chief engineer, not tundra.
The redesign of the front of the Tundra is already in the works. You will see it on the next model year.
Tundra’s are collecting dust on dealership lots. They need to refresh ASAP to help invigorate sales again.
@@mini2nut67 I couldn't agree more.
The design team for the new Tacoma and 4Runner hit the styling out of the park.
Let's hope the Tundra goes that direction and not the direction of the newish Highlander and the new Rav4. I am not a fan of that styling.
We need the Toyota Hilux Champ in the USA, an actual functional truck that can do actual truck things and the Hilux Champ looks a 100% better than the Tacoma.

Nissan PRO X do yourself a favor better price very nice truck! V6! Fully loaded cheaper.. Should I keep going… Nissan back in the game!
Front Bumps stop moved from body to shock absorber/damper, OK. Upper strut top? Why cast Aluminum? The Tops are Conveniently MISSING on the table with all the shocks. I’m happy with everything on my SR Base model, except for that upper strut top.
good pick ups -
lack of FOX LIVE VALVE SHOCKS
LACK OF PERMANENT 4WD
...especially compared to to ford ranger raptor
Still, I might get into "the new pilates" if I don't have a choice! 😂
Why are the cabs of mid-sized trucks DRASTICALLY SMALLER than full-size trucks? An F-150 four door has a massive back seat. Shaq could sit back there with plenty of legroom. It seems a mid-sized should have a lot more room.
I wish the sit in the pro is optional to standard no shocks sit. And the snorkel is optional too. In trail hunter. Well Tacoma is not perfect. 10 times behind compare to ranger raptor.
Toyota had a chance to take the market, but no,way spending that money on a mid, size truck, no,back seat, 6000 lbs towing. I’ll,take Silverado, and,go,from, there. Guy says frame built for heavy towing 😂😂😂. Not. Just listen to guy lie and hype up a product that just ok.
How were they able to accomplish all of these technology with an only $65K for the TRD Pro? 😂
With sales taxes, would be $70K
With interest rates wound be more than $80K
If you include insurance and gas and maintenance it would be more than $110K for the 6 years.
Thanks Toyota! Lol
75% of the Tacoma fellowship will not enjoy the new Tacomas. TOYOTA has priced almost ALL of us out of their new market. I am on my 5th Toyota lease & I have to do something else. Very sad that my long term Toyota & dealership loyalty means nothing. Really sucks.
US Army Vietnam Veteran.
The TRD Pro and Trailhunter are for highend buyers that want a prebuilt truck while TRD OR/Sport are what most people will afford to buy. Let's face it, lots of buyers upgrade suspension, build their own overland rig, and change their wheels and tires. In the end that 40k truck will be closer to 55k or more
RED seats are s**t. Forcing them on black trucks are criminal. At this price it should be whatever you fkn want. Compressor should be standard on the trd pro. Wtf
Can't wait to try these new seats... I had a 2016 TRD OR and I really liked my seating position, my main concern was rear seat comfort for my growing kid. The reason why I bought a 2023 4Runner!
Did he just compare these trucks to million dollar trophy trucks an say these are better/equal because they have color changing LED lights..? 😂 my kitchen has color changing LED lights... pretty easy to achieve..
only toyota would be stupid enough to use a nmh battery. notice how they carefully avoid the front bump stop...trd pro is a joke with those ridiculous seats...this what r&d wastes money on instead of something useful like an lfp hybrid battery. no recovery points on front of vehicle. lowest point in rear is sidewall of the spare and the list goes on. overpriced poorly engineered one size fits all failure from toyota is what tnga-f stands for. Perhpas the biggest insult of all is having to buy a lc250 to get a bump stop on frame.
After seeing the Chief Engineer I have to ask: why aren't Tacoma interiors B-I-G-G-E-R? Andre doesn't ask the big questions!
Girl Engineering, you refused to discuss the elephant in the room are you kidding me?? Hybrid - Shallow water not very rugged or reliable... Where's the Catalytic converter - is it tucked under the engine like before?
Oils cheap. Engines are expensive. Change the oil frequently (5k miles). The dealers free maintenance only changes the oil every 10K so do your own oil change at 5,15 and 25 then every 5k after the free service ends.
These are awesome looking trucks but honestly im haveing a really really hard time 1) rationalizing paying $60k plus for any truck much less a mid size truck and 2) having confidence buying any new truck or vehicle with how much the quality of everything in them has gone way down hill and slid all the way to hell . Even back a few years ago when a top of the line truck was $50k to $60k it was way too much , how are these people still able to wake up in the morning and make these cars and trucks with this crap and charge people 2× to 3× plus what they are actually worth with how everyone is having a hard time buying groceries ? The problem is all these people with money are still going out and buying these things so they are sticking with their price tags and high instrest rate loans cause they know people cant wait to have and buy the next best thing then get rid of it after a year to do the same . We all got to get together on this and stop buying these vehicles and maybe ..just maybe they will drop these prices . The whole process of every year making a 10% + profit and growth as a company and not being happy with just being succeful by making good money and a honest well made product has screwed up this whole country . Dont mean to Bit@# but man this is stupid and sad . I do like alot of these new trucks comming out and the TFL team always does a great job !
$65K! I could find a low mileage first generation Raptor extended cab, with a bigger backseat than crew cab Tacomas, and still have enough money left to fill up the tank every week for 7 years.
Way too big, way too expensive. Toyota doesnt need two full size trucks. The tacoma is as wide as a 2010 F-150. Ridiculous!
I have a tuff question... WHY IN THE WORLD PUT 18s on that damn Trail Hunter!?
When you put the TRD upper control arm why didn't you do the bottom one as well people who are hardcore off-roaders indeed longer will travel perfect with the lower TRD suspension with 2.5 coilover shocks would work better
In all these videos Toyota keeps taking about what they did to cut costs.
But the msrp is not cut, and it's $10k plus more expensive and we all know service costs will be through the rough compared to last Gen. Seems like Toyota is extorting their customers
When gas is $1.50/gal again, no one will care that it gets a few more mpg than a V6 or V8. The engine wont last as long either bc of the higher pressures per cylinder. My 22 yr old V6 tundra is a little underpowered but i can drive it another 10 yrs if i want. Thats priceless
The hard question is why in the holy hell did they raise the price so much, while now assembled in MEXICO where wages are significantly cheaper, and removed basic stuff like power seats!
The wants and needs of customers….quality vehicle, at a “reasonable” price point. Toyota is deleting the average hard working Americans from being able to afford their vehicles… right now the Tacos are selling but I can Guarantee that these tacos will start piling up high in dealer lots unless they come back down to earth! Sheldon let your bosses know they are insane
I want to know what customers they asked about these trims and how they came up with this nonsense. Every single person I’ve talked to that bought a new Toyota complained about not being able to actually spec what options they want. Why can’t I get rock rails, a factory winch and upgraded suspension but no silly hybrid.
Yes, Toyota finally make people pay for high end / luxury truck price on their Tacoma. It no longer an affordable truck for everyone. Sorry!
He talking about powertrain, transfer case…. why not quiz him on why no 4A.
Land of ice and snow would really appreciate it.
Serious question. Why won't Toyota offer a Manual transmission option for their base truck? I don't need the crew cab!
Their is like zero back seat legroom really Toyota common. Kinda weird the truck is bigger but it’s real smaller inside, crazy. It is insane that they’re not 65k for those. No one wants the hybrid Toyota
