That channel 4 at 1:55 alone sounds so somber and sad. Weird how a melody like this is basically hidden inside this very energetic song.
True, And channel 2 adds more to channel 4.
The Sonic 1 Boss and Final Zone themes both have a hidden melody like this too (also on their Channel 4)
It hints at whats at stake here. Everything is on the line. The world basically ends if you lose
God imagine that fully on guitar.
If you remove the drums and the alarm sounds, this almost sounds like something you'd hear from a PC-98 dating sim game.
I like how PSG 3 gives the theme that marching feel, so it’s differentiates itself from the typical faster music in 2, very appropriate for such a menacing boss, especially militaristic!
Yes exactly, eggman has that dictator with an evil marching army feel in alot his themes
I find the DAC channel portrays this feeling more.
@@laftrmastr oh yeah I can totally see that it adds to what the Pg3 has, maybe it’s the other way with the pg3 adding to it
Well - PSG3 at the very least is the one who gives marching rythm (left, left, left-right-left)
Listening to it broken down like this really emphasizes the PSG3 and DAC contributions, and honestly is the first time I would consider this song scary. Especially notable since I've been familiar with it for over 2 decades now, but having several passes with just the drums really made the military element clear to me.
Imagine eggman just sitting there making this shiz
"HAHAHA When Sonic gets here, it will be even more terrifying"
I like to think he makes all the music in his bases and has the songs blast all throughout them
this makes me want an "egg robo orchestra"
When Robotnik is too busy building things, Scratch and Grounder do the music. This is how the first Robotnik YTPs came into being.
Lol
There's always that part
3:43
Freaking perfect
Really, but I like that 4:39
2:52 to 3:43 gives me chills, it's too good for my ears aaaaa
DAC is just too iconic to *not* be used in more Sonic OSTs.
Only in Genesis, I remember the 3rd game have any samples.
Sonic 4 re uses these drum sounds, idk why
6:30 The original
2:52 how I play it on my keyboard
Goddammit this made me laugh. I somehow found this video while looking for ways to play it on piano that sound better than 2:52
I play the bass only.
The bass still sounds good, I'm a bass fan
3:43 How is at the old school fanfarre:
Lol
One of the rare instances of PSG 3 being used.
Edit: PSG 2, sorry for the mistake.
PSG3 is used like all the time for noise (Hat, Clap, Rain Etc.)
PSG 2 is the one that’s barely ever used (only song I can think of off the top of my head that uses it is Oil Ocean). PSG 3 isn’t that rare
@@danielcogan8205 Also Sonic 2 Competition Results and Sonic 2 Hidden Palace.
At least for the huge whatever instrument that is...
@@danielcogan8205 that’s cause PSG3 can steal the music information off of PSG2. How they pulled off getting PSG2 to work on the Master System, I don’t know. If the SMS chip didn’t have that problem, then making music for the SMS and PSG Genesis would be easier
2:15 - 2:20 For some reason I like it when songs have that "hefty overarching emotion" (so to speak) in the background.
Why do you say "So to speak"?
@@laftrmastr I say that because I don't really know the actual term for what I described, if any.
Same bro

You finally did it!
Sonic 2 was the first video game i remember beating as a kid and man, what an experience. This amazing track plus that ending.
Thanks so much for doing this.
Mine was "streets of rage" but sonic 2 is the 1st game somebody showed me how to beat the last boss before my own 1st attempt also the 1st game I found out some video game rumours can be true when I 1st saw super sonic lol
I was born in 2011, i got my genesis when i was 6 I believe, beat that giant monstrosity
I like how the square wave plays on top of the bass at the end, almost as if to replace the one-octave-up bass. Anyone else agree?
0:00 A firetruck racing past your house in the middle of the night
2:51 is where it started to get intense for me when I got to this part and heard this music, I was like oh shoot, if I don’t beat Eggman, I’m gonna die, and so is everyone else.
I can't believe they used that specific instrument as the bass.
The principle of these videos is super interesting!
This track (and Death Egg just before) always filled me with some sort of disturbing worry and sadness.
That DAC hits so hard and fast that it never stops playing!
The best soundtrack of Sonic, but lose at the Doomsday zone
For me, it would be Volcano Valley Act 2.

3:43 Channel 2 + DAC + Psg 3 is probably the best music I've ever heard
Everyone gangsta till that psg1 and channel 2 sync up at 3:23
I get better at listening to different parts of songs when I watch these. It also makes me understand and appreciate music more
5:30 fills me with nostalgic moments
Channels 0 and 1 are my personal favorites. It's like two opposite forces clashing in the final battle!
Egghead COOKING!
Remember the Imperial March a lot and I love it.

I stumbled across this video through recommendations and, lemme just say, I’m very intrigued by all this! Instant sub for future Sonic sound analysis lol
it feels like the original song but with multiple phases and it sounds cool as hell. i like.
The beginning sounds like nails on a chalkboard like a windows xp error sound effect
When channel 4 started playing I thought it was gonna play Gadget Room.
3:43 to 8:33 my fav part
I've been waiting a while for this, and I'm so glad it's here! Thank you!
Good work as always 👍
I never would have realized that the "warble" effect at 0:05 (The effect where the waveform moves in and out) even *existed* before these deconstructions. Very interesting.
When well used the Mega Drive soundchip can make epic music like no other❤️
1:57 Seals marching! xD
2:52 - 3:43 has a sort of bad ending feel to it
that's something i've always loved about the classic final bosses, they never had that feel of hope and courage to over come the final boss, it felt like your up against a actual threat that you will likely and do fail to defeat a lot of times.
(until of course you get used to the final bosses patterns)
it gives you that bad ending that your are able to comeback from feeling
Best theme for me

Any chance you'd make "Go Straight" from Streets of Rage 2?
My preference would be Mario Circuit from SMK or DK Island Swing.
Everything from Streets of Rage 2 would be amazing
@@sebastianl.6984 Really, anything from any SOR, or more Golden Axe. Hell maybe the Shinobi titles!
channel 4 and 2 could be their own themes
That’s because the man that composed this track, Masato Nakamura, was an expert bassist and could create extremely complex basslines.

Yo, this may seem like an oddball request, but could you possibly do Square Dance from Lumines?
They way the songs are implemented into the game, it’s totally possible to do an oscilloscope deconstruction of them.

i hate when the song get in only one side of the headset
Nothing but brass i see
That’s what makes this track so militaristic; the heavy use of brass and the military style drumbeat is what makes this song different from the rest of Sonic 2’s OST.
@@tarnkazsu But Wing Fortress is also pretty militaristic. It sounds so bold, just like an aviator.
