Planning our first trip and trying to pick a rental in Key Colony. Is navigating that shortcut and and out to Sombrero pretty easy. We'll have a 22' CC and worse fear it hitting a sandbar or reef in a new location.
On my first time I went really slow to make sure I would not hit bottom. If you don’t have a depth chart plotter that is up to date with the depth contours I would not recommend taking the short cut because it’s shallow on both sides. It is pretty easy and it’s a well known shortcut. With all the boat traffic you might get lucky and be able to follow another boat through the cut.
@@GULF2BAY on my list is to get a new chart plotter/sonar. Our little Raymarine is outdated and lacking some features. I guess my issue with planning routes and seeing where to stay is I don't know if the water is too shallow or just that clear when I look on Google Maps, haha!
@MrBullAdam down load the navioncs apps it shows you all the depth contours and you can see the reefs really good with relief shading. I think it cost $20 for your phone.
You guys were blessed with a great trip ! Great videos and information ! Thanks for sharing !
We definitely were blessed!!
Visited the Crawl Key sand bar twice last week with our Cayman 246SD... Thanks for putting us on a nice spot!!
