Great video man. I'm heading down there in late April. Thanks for all the tips and info. I just subscribed to your channel for future content. Tight lines and stay salty.

I was down there with family from March 23-30! We might have gone right by you!. We did some fishing and caught a bunch of those chubs, also grunts, tiny snapper (yellowtail/mangrove), grouper and a bonus hogfish. We hit the sandbar on a day that was probably a little too windy. It was my first time in Marathon and first time in the Keys since age 8. (almost 36 years later!).
We caught fish around East Washerwoman Shoal and by East Sister Rock Island.

Hi Peter. Sounds like we had the same trip. 😆
We love it down there. March is a crapshoot with the wind. I think we are going a little later next year.

@@jasontrimbur8497 What were you using for bait with the guide?

I am going to the Key’s soon…oddly enough I found your videos and we are staying at the same place as you did while in Marathon. I too am planing on renting a boat. Did you spend any time boating in the gulf just near where you stayed and east toward the smaller island that it close by? Where did you rent your boat from? Is there a launch on the property as well? By the way we love Horseshoe as well. We spend several days there each time we go down.

      Hi Ti!
      We rented from here:
      www.tropicalboatrentals.com/25-sea-chaser
We rented the foot sea chaser. The property didn’t have a launch that I recall. I drove the boat to and from the rental location. Only got two days of fishing in on the boat since wind was bad. We stuck to Atlantic side. Next time down I will explore more Gulf side. Horseshoe beach is great. Love it there also. Good luck and have fun.

Was wondering about your boat rental. How much ? Were there any extra charges when you returned it? Great video!

      Rented from here: www.tropicalboatrentals.com/
I rented a 25 foot sea chaser. I think it was going to be around 1300 for 4 days. I returned it earlier and they were nice enough to knock a little off. That price does not include gas. I’d fill up before you return it. You might save some money. I’m not 100% sure about that though. Marathon has a ton of places you can rent from. Shop it around. You could probably go down with 4 guys and split a boat for the week for around 500 a piece. Great deal in my opinion.

What did you catch the parrotfish on?

    • @jasontrimbur8497

I think it was just a piece of squid on close to bottom

    How windy did it get?

I believe it got up to 25 mph and 4 to 6 foot waves. Enough to scare someone like me from going off shore.

It’s pronounced vaca as in Spanish for cow, not va cay

Vaca not vay ca. I hear it. Been saying it wrong for years I guess.
