another enjoyable bar hopping cruise. way back when, I used to spend winters in Key West and the lower "FlaKeys" between 1975 to 1990. before like many places has changed too much, in too many ways! I used to frequent bars on the "quiet" other end of Simonton street, like the old Sands beach club, long gone, and the Full Moon Saloon, and the old Bottle Cap bar. I still remember the Green Parrot with three shots of Tequila for one buck! I remember one classic place, name unknown a little up the road from the Half Shell, it looked to be an old run down building looking vacant for decades collapsing fence overgrown yard with a neon sign saying closed, and a locked door it advertised it was closed during the hours which it was open. and the musicians would not be appearing when they were scheduled. if you could find your way in you would find a very nice well done interior. and outdoor patio even their menu would go out the way to discourage patrons in classic Key West style of the times.
Great story! Thanks. Anita and I are heading down again in May and will be hitting places we've never been. Wish we could have known the lost ones you knew. We will stay for the first time on Stock Island. It's already home to great bars (Hogfish Grill) and new hotels.

Love these videos of bars. We would be going southern from WPB. We never stayed in the keys and thus missed the sunsets trying to get home at a reasonable hour. I would love to see a list of resorts in the keys that are not going to cost $400 a night. Thanks

Wow, I haven't been to Sloppy Joes since 1997. Boy time sure flies. My first trip to the keys was in 1974. Me and my best friend at the time drove my 1964 Chevy Belair all the way there.
