purchased this last week, could not be more happier with my purchased, my wife used 15 pro max, but the different is just huge. what a magnificent camera(im ex nikon d800 user so i can appreciate the quality in this camera)
I'm really glad you're enjoying your Xiaomi ! It is just an awesome phone ! It's not perfect, far from it but overall as a package and considering it's hardware and abilities, you just can't beat it even still today ! 👍
oh man, I got my Xiaomi 14 ultra last weekend, I can't say it just amazing, it has so many features, AI processing after shooting, 30x zoom AI processing just crazy, made over a hundrder photos just at day 1! it's really #1 camera phone!
@@chukwuebukaamaechiI got rid of Pixel. It is absolutely useless device compared to Xiaomi. Dark 3.4 aperture on inconvenient 120mm telephoto with annoying oversharpening is a nightmare. Xiaomi has more natural colors, good REAL bokeh and more advanced functionality does its job. Google is deceiving us - Pixel is bad in photos. It has problems with artifacts in post-processing. It is not suitable for portraits at all. The future of mobile photography belongs to Chinese smartphones!
Yes it's one thing to do some sample tests in controlled environment and all but the true test is in real world scenarios and the xiaomi didn't disappoint 😊
Holy smokes! You squeezed every juice that the Xiaomi 14 Ultra camera could offer. Great video! I have a Xiaomi 14 Pro, and I suddenly got inspired by your video.
I'm glad it has lit up that flame inside you, that's the very reason I make these videos, to inspire people ❤️ don't forget to tag the photos you take on IG with the #upsidelens hashtag 😉 thanks for the kind words 👍
The actual plot twist was that you used the phone for the video! Really loved this video, I cried watching this because it's beautifully done!! The music, the shots, chef's kiss
Awwww thank you so much ❤️ I just can't get over our lovely this little community is, you guys are just an amazing bunch ! Thank you for the kind words and Im over the moon that you enjoyed the video 😁 yes what a plot twist 😅 I have since managed to make better use of it with different settings (call it experience haha) and colour spaces which you can see in my more recent video in London about the iPhone (shot with the Xiaomi funnily enough!). Thanks again
@@UpsideLens I just stumbled upon your video on our TV because I just want to watch videos of this phone even though I can't afford it. But, I had to hop on my phone to subscribe and comment because it was really, really, really well done! Hoping to watch more of your videos soon.
How is your experience so far? I was planning to move from Xperia 1 iii to Xperia 1 vi, but Xiaomi 14 ultra caught my attention. Am I gonna miss Sony's pro and cinematic features if I move to Xiaomi? 😅 Have you?
@@jchinchilla.r Xperia is a good, convenient smartphone. Xiaomi 14 U is a photo flagship. Xperia has better battery life, a screen without a hole, etc. The 14 U takes much better photographs.
@jchinchilla.r hi, you will miss the cinematic feature if you move to Xperia 1 VI that's for sure as they removed the video pro app !!! In terms of video quality the Xiaomi blows the Sony a million times over ! Because of its 1.63 aperture you can get some very nice and smooth shallow depth of field on the main sensor. All my B-roll and talking shots were filmed with the Xiaomi. I recorded all footage in 10Bit Log at 160mbs, something that the mk 5 and 6 simply cannot do (I used mcpro24fps for all video recording needs)
@@sergei.ananin Thanks for your answer, right now I'm suffering with Xperia 1 iii battery life, as it is draining more easily, and overheating is a constant issue when using the camera. ¿how bad is Xiaomi in both of this aspect?
Ive got the Xiaomi 14 ultra. Its the first phone I have had which actually looks like the photos were taken with a compact camera. The quality is brilliant, but more importantly they dont look over proceeded like google pixels do. Also, the natural bokeh (not the fake software one) is brilliant. I absolutely love it. One of the best phones I have owned.
It is a really good phone for photography, make sure to switch to manual and raw and the results you can get out of it are nothing short of spectacular for a phone !
Great review!! I just bought this amazing phone and I look forward to taking some fantastic shots! Quick question: do you remember the name of the Leica filter you used at 6:03 ? thanks
Hi truth to be told I can't remember which one I used, I filmed this video a few months ago 😅 I'm sure you will have a ton of fun with this awesome phone 👌
Such a detailed video! I have been planning to buy the phone for the last two months, but due to mixed reviews, I couldn't decide. However, this video has cleared all my doubts. Keep up the great work. Love from India.
Hey I'm glad you enjoyed the video ! I've been using it as my daily driver since I got it and it is hands down the best phone I've had ! Awesome battery life, amazing screen and most of all outstanding cameras with unreal capabilities when it comes to photo and video ! When pairing this phone with an app like mcpro24fps for video the results are just mind blowing ! I'm sure you won't regret your purchase !
Thank you really appreciate ❤️ photography is all about composition, whether you take a photo with a £50 phone or a £2000 DSLR composition is key. Then the editing part is also crucial. My advice is shoot in RAW, pay attention to your manual settings and most importantly keep experimenting, the more you shoot the better you get at it 😊
I dont usually subscribe but this review is just amazing.. just a little suggestion you can add the link of original photos that you captured with the phone you are reviewing in the discription of every video soo as viewers we can download it and get a good idea about picture quality
Thank you, really means a lot 👍 in terms of photos I have been thinking of doing something better, a patreon membership where people can download the actual raw files of all the photos I take in each video I make. Something I've been thinking of for a while now and that a few subscribers have asked for.
What filters did you use gor which pictures? Really good pictutrs cany wait to get this phone. Did uou edit any in lightroom or was this all straight from phone
I'm assuming when you say filters you mean glass filters in front of my lens, variable ND filter to get the long exposure shots at the end of the video. And yes all shots are edited in Lightroom Classic afterwards, no phone or camera could spit out photos like these straight out of sensor. 👍
Would you recommend the S24 Ultra or the Xiaomi 14 Ultra? My biggest concern is the thermals, i saw that the leather versions heats too much when doing intensive tasks like 4K video recording and gaming, so should i get the Blue Ceramic version of 14U?
From a photography point of view I couldn't recommend the S24U, small sensors, over the top processing and I'm just not a fan of their colour science. In terms of the Xiaomi 14 ultra heating up, the only time I can honestly it was hot to the touch was when I was charging it at the full 90W as I was in a rush and needed the super fast charge. Other than that, when recording video with it it gets warm at most and I don't have e that ceramic one. Hope that helps
@@UpsideLens Thanks a lot, i was a bit undecided because people recommended the S24U for cameras and overall, over the 14U, but now i'm sure i'll get the 14U
@HomiRuimm really ? Any photographer out there would never choose the S24U over the Xiaomi ! That would be foolish ! I mean the Xiaomi's sensors are way larger than the Samsung's ancient ones ! The optics are much better on the Xiaomi, it's 75mm telephoto doesn't use a periscope which allows for some ridiculously good bokeh ! The macro abilities are bonkers too ! The Xiaomi is also much better supported when it comes to third party apps like mcpro24fps and motion cam which allows you to record real RAW video which crushes even iPhones pro Res ! The phone to beat in 2024 for photography is the Xiaomi, and any self respecting photographer would never say the Samsung is better in anyway, not unless they were paid to say so !
@@UpsideLens this here, statement here made my purchased way easier and after using as ex dslr d800 user, i can say you are absolutely correct and your video here justified the capabilities of the camera.
Great contents as always, Seb! This video proves once again that the most important thing is not the camera but the person behind it! Couple of things: 1) It would be so useful if you could hint somewhere in the corner which device you are shooting with (Xiaomi? GoPro? Any other device?) 2) In the beginning the exposure jumps up and down, weird)) 3) Missing the shutter button? 4) Missing the Xperia Camera UI?
Thanks mate really appreciate 😊 I did think about it but thought it was obvious which was which... All the good quality video is from the Xiaomi and the rest is the crappy action cam 😅 I did say towards the end of the video that when it comes to video all b-roll and head talking shots where taken on the Xiaomi using mcpro24fps 10bit LOG In regards to jumping exposure, when filming on location and I'm doing vlog style the camera has to be in auto to compensate for lighting changes. Any vlogger will have their camera set to auto for those type of shots. All b-roll however was set and locked in manual. Shutter button, I mean yes and no, I do have the Xiaomi camera grip but havent used it much in this video. I have also recorded another video (will be out in the next couple of weeks) doing some street photography and I used the grip pretty much entirely. Xperia camera UI (the real one, not the new abomination) was great, but I'm slowly getting used to the Xiaomi UI which is "OK". Having said that yesterday I got to test out the Xperia 1 VI for half a day (also a video in the work) and god that UI is atrocious ! As much as I loved the Xperia 1 V the VI is trash !!!
Thank you, really appreciate 🙏 I lost the tripod I used in this video unfortunately 😔 as it happens I left it behind during the shooting of this very video 😅 as it turns out I suck at the tripod game, freewell sent me a carbon fibre one to test out and I also lost it (on the train on way back from London) so from now on I just buy cheap ones lol
All photos taken for this video were shot RAW (apart from the portrait photo and the scene one) put simply those are the best raw files I've had to work with ! Noise is very grain-like as opposed to horrible digital noise. Hope that answers your question. Alternatively I also filmed a whole POV street photography video all shot in RAW
😂 it's funny how people perceived mobile phones when it comes to photography ! If I was to rock up to a wedding with my Xiaomi to record the video they would burn me on a stake and yet it can (albeit if rooted) shoot RAW 14bit ! Not something many mirrorless can do lol if I said in the video the b-roll was shot on an alpha camera im pretty sure everyone would have believed me lol shooting 10bit LOG straight out of the phone is just unreal especially when you combine it with the 1 inch sensor and the variable aperture !
Have you noticed any brightness problems after the latest camera update? A friend of mine says the update have killed his joy of night photography with the 14u. 😬
Tbh I haven't, no... Maybe that's something that happened in automatic jpg mode ? I shoot manual RAW 99% of the time. Might be worth having a look on Reddit if others have experienced the same thing ?
The only thing why i would rate the Xperias to be better than X14Ultra is the autofocus.. especially for the moving subjects.. its hard to capture the pictures without blur on X14Ultra.. Sony's eyes and face autofocus is world class. Amazing work bro.. i am using X14Ultra 😎🤣 and the Battery on Sony is great.
how ? the motion sensing option and fastshot option just freezes everything in perfect focus !! this is the only phoe i ve used till now that literally freezes the shot
Can't say I've had issues with the autofocus on the 14 Ultra. The only thing I can think of is because the main sensor is much bigger than the Xperia ones, you really have to adjust your focus specifically on the part you want to be sharp, it's due to how shallow the depth of field is on the main sensor. The Xperia is more forgiving in that sense due to the small main sensor. If shooting moving subjects I'd highly recommend the xiaomi grip (photography kit grip) which enables continuous focus tracking allowing for pin sharp photos too 👍
@@ashouhdyyes, but you have to wait for it to activate. Like HDR. You have to wait for it to decide to activate. When it doesn't activate it's very blurry. A lot. It should be possible to activate it directly. Like old Xiaomi phones that have it. It's on. Simply. HDR or motion sensor. On Xiaomi 14 Ultra you miss your shots until it wants to activate.
thanks for the in depth review,! I'm about to purchase one of these ,,but I was just wondering if I can use the camera right out of the box,, or if I have to also pay for a T mobile phone plan?
Thanks and yes all photos I take are shot in manual mode in RAW format and edited afterwards in Lightroom Classic, no camera would have straight out of camera shots like those 😅
Why did you use Mc Pro 24 app to record the video roll? Just wondering? Is it because it enables you to edit in a specific way, or has inbuilt presets you like? Brilliant video. Your photos are beaaauuuutiful!!!!!
Thanks so much for the kind words 🙏 the reason I use mcpro24fps is because it has the option to bypass the ISP processing, the reason why first party video apps suck on most phones. By bypassing the processing you get a much more neutral and natural output with much less sharpening and colour processing. In fact mcpro24fps allows to record at MUCH higher bitrates which means will have less artefacts and will be less compressed and pixelated. On top of that you can record in LOG 10bit at 4K60 and the cherry on the cake is that you can use any colour space you want to be able to grade the footage in post later, I personally shoot in S-Gamut 3 Cine with a SLOG3 log curve. Overall using this app in conjunction with the main sensor gives out incredible results even in lowlight !!
Thanks @@UpsideLens for this info. Another question. Did you shoot in pro mode raw 50mp ultra mode, or pro raw default binned 12mp mode? And do you think it makes a significant difference?
@thomasrogers3008 I never used 50mp as 99% of the time you end up with worse results. For best results use RAW or ULTRA RAW stay away from 50mp mode. Ultra raw is ok during static night shots or regular day shots. Do bear in mind that if you do intend on using AI denoising afterwards it won't work with RAW Ultra shots (since they're demosaiced) so best sticking with RAW if in that scenario. Hope it all makes sense
I used to have Xiaomi 12s Ultra and compared it with Google Pixel 7 Pro, Xperia 1 V. One thing I didn't like about Xiaomi photos is colour chemistry and significant colour shift with different lenses. I noticed that main camera delivered magenta tinted or sometimes just too cold tones. Other times - too warm tones. Bright light conditions shots did come up with weird colours sometimes too (perhaps this is normal for many phones).
Yes it is sometimes an issue with older or cheaper phones, however with the 14 ultra very happy with the results as you can probably tell from the photos in this video. The key of course is to do as much of the work as possible when taking the photo, making sure the light is right (composition) the right iso is selected for the right shutter speed and correct aperture for the look wanted. Leaving a phone like this decide what the shot should look like by leaving it on auto regular mode would be a waste, just like driving a Ferrari on a bumpy road at 5mph 😅
@@UpsideLens Yes, I agree with that. But sometimes when you are with family and kids you just can't do all these manual adjustments and settings. Perhaps, family photography itself (not a photography in a hurry with kids running around) is a different topic and you might do one dedicated review about it - "The best high-end smartphone camera for family photography 2024". Cheers
I shall put it in the pipeline next to "the best smartphone camera to shoot your lasagna in 2024" 😉😂 Joke aside the first thing I'll say is in 2 years Xiaomi have nailed colour science compared to older models which did have weird behaviours indeed. Now when you say family photos you don't have to rely on the crappy auto regular mode , you can still use the pro mode but with all settings set to auto. Unlike the ultra processed regular auto mode you should get a much more pleasing image just like you would using a regular camera in P mode if that makes sense 👍
@@UpsideLensWell, I did exactly that with Xperias 1 III - IV - V but I didn't see any improvement compared to Sony's Auto Mode. Maybe because Sony doesn't do much photo processing in Auto mode because they don't know how. I gues Xiaomi is different in this regard. Xiaomi 12s Ultra was the only Xiaomi phone I had in the past. Regarding Xperia, if everything is right, all stars in the sky arranged in lucky order and you have a lucky moment, it can deliver absolutely stunning, unlike any other smartphones, photos. BUT, these moments are rare. That's why I'm using Oppo Find X7 Ultra right now and looking at Xiaomi 14 Ultra / Vivo X100 Ultra. Cheers
From my experience with the Xperia 1 V (disregard the VI it's just not a good phone for photography anymore) shooting in manual Vs auto had HUGE differences ! First one being the file sizes ! When in auto basic mode the jpg compression is horrendous, hence why going via pro mode was the only way to avoid that. Secondly in terms of processing the basic mode will add a very strong sharpening effect, noise reduction, de-vignetting, colour balancing as well as saturation boost... I could not live with the results spat out of the basic mode on an Xperia phone. Pro manual in raw was a different beast all together ! Now the 14 ultra trumps all of that and gives stellar results especially when using the telephoto sensors compared to the Xperia phones.
Great video! I've heard nice things about the Huawei Pura 70 series. Do you have any plans to test their camera mechanics? I'm curious about how practical they are.
Thank you 😊 I won't sadly, since the phones I use are my daily drivers I couldn't live with a phone that doesn't natively support Google services or don't have global releases. Having said that even if the Huawei did have those prerequisites I am not big fan on relying on sensor crops for telephoto. You just cannot beat physics and the way a "real" focal length works.
I really appreciate the effort and enjoyed each and every second of this video. A new approach to step out of the studio in the environment to test the Xiaomi 14 Ultra 📷 is absolutely amazing. Enthusiasm must have touched you while doing that. Like you said, the hardware is absolutely bonkers but there's a bit software limitation. Really loved the video ❤️. Lots of love from Nepal .
Hi there! Could you share the name of the tripod you’re using with the Xiaomi 14 Ultra? I’m looking for a model that can support the full photography kit. Thanks so much!
Hey if you look at one of my most recent videos you'll get the link to the one I now use, it's the freewell carbon fibre travel tripod, an absolutely awesome tripod which granted is not cheap but is ultra light and can be setup in seconds !
Thanks man, really appreciate 😊 I'll be doing a lot more content on the 14 Ultra including, techniques, tips and POVs in the coming months, stay tuned and keep snapping 👌
Great video, sir, and those shots - particularly the long exposures - are amazing. The foamy stuff, btw, are left by spittlebugs after they feed on the plant sap (I used to think people had been gobbing on the plants.) Users really are spoilt for choice these days - Vivo or Xiaomi seem to be neck and neck with Huawei hampered by the lack of a global unit. I was wondering if you'd experienced any shutter lag, as I have a chance of picking up a cheap second hand 13U and I'd heard it was an issue.
Hey thanks for the kind words 😊 and thanks for the info, I'll be going to bed that little bit more intelligent tonight 😅 Xiaomi to me has the edge against the Vivo (purely based off a lot of raws I downloaded and studied before buying the 14 ultra) the Huawei apart from not being a global release and not having Google services (which to me is a straight write off anyway) relies purely on sensor crops for its telephoto and I'm not a big fan at all of that technique. You just can't beat physics and a sensor crop zoom just doesn't replace a real dedicated focal length in terms of optics, bokeh, and compression. Now for shutter delay, i have noticed it happening only in auto mode when turning on all computational cr*p HDR and filters. In pro manual mode its all shutter depending obviously.
@@UpsideLens in your video after showing every photo, compare the settings. Example 23.mm- iso 100-8 sec and f2.8 Others value easy on pro mode 23 mm I don't understand how to choose. 23mm or 75mm are the cameras ? Thanks 🙏
Yes those are the focal lengths so on the Xiaomi specifically 23mm is the main 1x camera, and 75mm is the telephoto 3.2x camera. I hope that makes sense 😊
Hi, nice video. I was wondering if this phone does not have any hand held way to take light trails or if the IBIS can allow to hand held light trails on street. Thanks
Thanks 👍 and just like any camera you'd have to be very very steady for light trails. The lower the shutter speed the more "dangerous" it becomes. For those type of shots you'd want to stabilise the phone/camera either on a tripod, a wall or something.
If anyone sends the X100 Ultra my way I'd be more than happy to put it against the 14 Ultra. Having said that, not a fan of "all in one" lenses which basically affect the quality of the bokeh (pericope bokeh looks horrendous) and depth of field (since sensor crops don't alter the depth of field regardless of the focal length). When it comes to Huawei unfortunately I won't touch it, I can't deal with a phone without genuine Google services, or gpay... Now pixel 9 as much as it is a terrific phone for the average person, for photographers it is just out of the the big boys league. I have tested the iPhone 16 pro max and the video is coming this Sunday, and the following video will be a Xiaomi 14 Ultra Vs iPhone 16 pro max in terms of pure quality. Hope that helps 👍
Very interesting video. I love how you take pictures and make them look magical. One thing I'm curious about is, when you took pictures of the waterfall using pro mode, you needed an ND filter. What about long exposure mode that comes with the phone itself? I think it doesn't require an ND filter. But what are the differences between those pictures? Eager to know.
Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it 👍 I always try to stay away from "trickeries". Yes the phone has various modes to mimic certain types of photos, just like the iPhone also has. But you can only do so in jpg since it will spit out a very processed shot. To give you a comparison it's like making a home made lasagne and buying a microwavable ready meal lasagne.... It technically has the same name but it won't look or taste the same at all... 🤣 There's no cutting corners for photography, if you want the real deal and awesome results you gotta stick by the rules 😉
@UpsideLens thank you for the reply. Yeah I always thought, what's the difference. When i tried to capure light trails or silky water, somehow the 'trickeries' makes it so good. Probably I need to brush up my settings and editing skills.
Coming from s23 ultra and got me a Xiaomi 14 ultra. Oh man i AM loving this phone. Its flawless. Love the interface, super lovely câmeras.. way to go Xiaomi 🩵
@@UpsideLens good thing about small RUclipsrs in terms of subscribers and popularity is that you guys mostly reply to your fans comments which I'm very great full to thanks man thanks 🙏🏻 love from Georgia 🇬🇪
@Friendlywhoman 😂 it's probably because we smaller channels don't have thousands of comments 😅 I always make a point to connect with the subscribers as much as I can, but I might not always be able to reply especially if there is a large number of comments 😅 thank you 👍
Hey thanks, really appreciate 😊 short answer is no. I was aware of the issue going around and did read about it but just like any other brand of any electronic manufacturers some issues are bound to happen at very small percentage, but that minority always tends to be very vocal about their issues hence why you end up hearing about it exponentially more than anyone having a good time with their product. Anyway, like I said, never had this issue myself and I did shoot in various environments, dry to sudden humidity, warm to cold, cold to hot... Having bought my phone from a third party, I always had the option anyway to send it back for a straight swap had anything happened but thankfully never had to 😊
Great review and I would have ordered one of these straight away if I hadn't seen it compared to the Vivo 100 with a bigger sensor and most of the time - better results. I'm waiting for my Honor Magic V3 to arrive but looking for a better camera orientated phone with the photography kit to replace some of my still cameras. Any comments? Love your presentations on this flagship - thank you!
Reviews tell half the story... You see where the X14U shines is the fact it has a dedicated non-periscope zoom lens and unlike the X100U it doesn't require a sensor crop. The resulting photos and especially bokeh are wayyyy ahead of what the X100U can achieve, and that's physics at the end of the day. Bokeh on any periscope lens will look squarish and un-natural. That's the nature of the beast. Also adds to the fa t Xiaomi's compatibility is much better with third party softwares like motion cam and mcpro24fps which allows the Xiaomi to pump out some, if not then best, video footage of ANY mobile phone out there.
@@UpsideLens So in summary, and five months after the 14 Ultra arrived on the scene AND despite the arrival of the Vivo 100 Ultra, you'd still recommend the Xiaomi? Thank you for coming back to me - I'm a subscriber!!
@K22MDL i haven't looked at anything that doesn't support Google (aka Huawei Pura) but so far for me and for what I prioritise in a camera phone the Xiaomi is the phone to beat in 2024 ! Awesome 1inch type sensor, amazing 75mm telephoto, outstanding macro, video capabilities just class leading... It just keeps on going. On top of that the photography kit, even though I'm not fond of the grip itself comes with an amazing case that allows to use any 67mm filters.
Great video and timely as I'm wanting to get the best still image capturing phone to replace carrying round a camera. Do you have any raw or jpegs you can share so we can see the quality?
Thanks mate 🙂 glad it helps 👍 I'm currently toying with the idea of a RUclips membership or maybe patreon where I would share RAWS of all shots taken for the latest videos as well as including my lightroom presets. Will give a think about it all 👍
Hi thanks really appreciate 😊 I do not use LUTS for video, I record in LOG and grade each bit of footage individually. In terms of photos I didn't use any presets if that's what you meant, again I hand graded every single photo. I did make a preset pack (link in the description) from the hundreds of photos I have been grading since I started the channel 👍
It was absolutely stunning indeed ! If I could I'd move to this part of the UK in a heartbeat !!! In terms of grading hers my process, I normally do a base correction (highlights/shadows/saturation...) the some macro-localised adjustments via masking, and then I start on the grade, it all depends on the initial vision I have for a certain shot. I have made a pack of presets/starting points of my most used grades for my street photography (link in description) but yeah it's a case by case sort of thing sometimes I push it quite far, sometimes not it all depends on the look I want to go for. Then to finish it off I normally go back with some masking for sharpening/clarity and last step is normally a denoise if needed. I did make a video a few months ago showing my process of editing my photos if you want to check it out. Hope that answers your question 👍
Might be a silly question but have you thought about doing a photography walk for people that follow you on here or even a doing a book? I think it would awesome personally
Thank mate really appreciate the confidence you have in me 😂 joke aside I have been thinking about a lot of things for the channel, some are in the pipeline already, some need investment which I just simply cannot afford at this stage (so maybe in the future) and other things which I haven't got a reach big enough yet to implement, a photo walk would be one of them as I'd need at least 10 times the subscriber base to make it viable and not end up with only one person turning up 😂. Yes as the channel grows I definitely want to create a community of like minded people interested in mobile phones and photography, that's the aim, that's always been the aim actually 😊 so fingers crossed we get there eventually 👍
Thanks mate 😁 well it's definitely something I have thought about when the channel gets a bit bigger and we can gather quite a few people and make it happen 👍
hey, no camera let alone phone would look like those photos sooc they were all edited in Lightroom (apart from B&W one which was using the app filter and the portrait mode photo is also un-edited jpg sooc) 👍
All about practice mate, the more you do the more you learn. I made a video a while ago about how I edit my photos. I also made a presets pack for lightroom with links in the description. Just keep watching videos, and you'll be up there in no time 👌
Thanks appreciate man 👍 I very rarely use selfie cameras, they're all trash lol the end of the video where the waterfalls were shot was pretty low light, it was 8pm under heavy forestry, there's also a very low light backlit shot of a tunnel too, it's in there 😉
I haven't tried the 13 ultra myself but from what I've seen, yes the improvements are there (better sensors, full variable aperture...) but it probably isn't worth upgrading. I'd wait until the 15 ultra is announced and make a decision then 👍
Battery life definitely isn't a problem for me, on average by the time I get to bed at 11.30pm/midnight I have about 35%/30% battery left and I would class myself as a pretty heavy user (I do not game on the phone though)
Can't say it has, only times it gets warm to the touch is when I sometimes use the 90W boost charge if I'm really in a hurry or got an important shoot and can't wait to charge it at normal speeds. I've said it before though I do not play games on the phone so that may be the issue ? The only time my phone got really hot was when I tried Motioncam pro, but that was my fault as I was trying to shoot RAW video at 60fps whilst encoding it on the fly to H265 ! That would put even a very powerful computer to its knees, let alone a phone lol. For your problem I would suggest doing a factory reset and not syncing any of your data on the first install. I know android can be glitchy when importing all previous data and files from previous install and have corrupted files which will make your phone overheat, had that issue with the Sony Xperia 1 V and when I factory reset it I set the phone as "new phone" and then imported all my previous photos ( not apps) afterwards. Hope it helps
I have Xiaomu 14U for months now, but not that strong on taking photoes as I'm very new. I was wondering will you make some tips video for the newbies that wanted to explore photograpphy with phones? haha I'm still really love the whole phone but I do agree the UI is abit bad. Tho I'm using Xiaomi phones for a while now but this is the first time going into flagship and it makes me realized the UI for the camera really needs improvement alot.
Hey 👋 to answer your question, yes I will be making videos designed to help people out in terms of tips and advice. The thing is it all comes down to the basics of photography, once you understand them the UI of a phone just becomes a means to an end. Yes they all vary from phone to another but the principle remains the same. I will be using the Xiaomi for the foreseeable future so keep your eyes peeled for a lot of content 👌
@@UpsideLens Cool!! Looking forward more of your content! I was actually just browsing for any people make reviews of the Xiaomi 14U for fun and I came across your video and I love it!
@regis20 no problem mate, I got the phone about a month ago and been putting it through it's paces to see what its limits are (I tend to do that with every phone I get so I know where I can push and where I can't) so yes expect a lot more content with this phone in the next few weeks (got a Xperia 1 VI vs Xiaomi 14 ultra video in the pipeline) as well as a street photography video shot in Manchester that I need to start editing, as well as other videos that I will soon be shooting... Busy busy busy 😅
how does it compare to sony a7iii mirrorless camera for human model photography? i really like to get the natural skin colours and details, can xiaomi be as good as mirrorless camera for that purpose?
As much as phones have come leaps and bounds in terms of what they can achieve we're still far off what a mirrorless camera can do and it's all due to physics and optics. Don't get me wrong, if you look at the photos I've been taking with the Xiaomi on my channel you'll see it's very capable and tbh shooting models/portraits is not something that I have done yet but that I would love to experiment with in the future so keep an eye out. The main sensor on this phone can do some great great things and so can the 3x ! The bokeh that the 3x can achieve is just 🤌 with a little editing, a mist filter and some good lighting I'm sure it would produce some awesome results !
@@UpsideLens thanks, what about the details? can you based on your exprience tell me how much loss of details would i have if i use xiaomi for example versus sony a7iii or a good mirrorless camera
Whilst you can get some very decent and detailed shots, once again you cannot compare a 1inch type sensor Vs a full frame sensor ! All I'll say is that I'd rather go around with my Xiaomi than a full frame purely due to size and equipment you need. Ive had full frame cameras before and now I just couldn't go back
How does it perform in both regular and log video modes? I was quite underwhelmed by the new iPhone series, but everyone seems to praise its video capabilities.
In the regular app log or not it's pretty meh, BUT if you use mcpro24fps then you can record in LOG 10bit up to 4K60 or 4K120 8 bit LOG up to 160mbs making the footage looking fantastic especially when using the main 1 inch type sensor ! If you want to take things even further you can use an app called motion cam that will allow to even shoot in RAW video something that most dslrs don't even do !!! So to answer your question, when it comes to video the Xiaomi is a beast !
The 14 ultra is already a very good phone when it comes to photo/video and still has the 3.7x as a regular module. The 15 Ultra may do it all with a big periscope lens which will be a downgrade in my eyes. Relying on higher megapixel sensors for sensor crops will be detrimental to the final output. The main sensor may be slightly improved but for now, if I was to get a phone right now it would still be the 14 ultra. Hope that helps
Try Vivo X100 Ultra and you will be amazed. I could not take the risk of fog in lens and first I regreated that I did give upp the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, but now I really like my Vivo and I do not miss my Nikon D500 at all.
I guess it's the same with anything, the minority of people having issues will be very vocal about it, I'm sure there are millions of people who are absolutely fine with no fogging of the lens. Pretty happy with the Xiaomi and the ability to have the photography kit with perfectly matching case and grip and the ability to use filters is just 👌the icing on the cake for me is the variable aperture, such an amazingly useful feature, and lets not forget to mention the awesome star flare that only a variable aperture can give you... Beautiful 😉
Also in the UK as a previous 13 Ultra global version user, I pre-ordered my 14 Ultra with camera kit. No fogging issues and it's much better overall than the 13 Ultra. Vivo certainly make some great models too - X100 Pro or Ultra would have been my other choice.
Unfortunately with all things electronics there's always an element of luck of the draw 😞 always a small percentage of units will have issues, that's just how it is 🤷 glad you're having fun with your 14 Ultra, loving mine 👌
I tried the X100 & X100 ultra. 1. I couldn't live with the fake bokeh as it doesn't get the bokeh fading right in a complex photo especially when there are many things around the main subject. 2. The natural shadows are gone brighten up corner to corner as thought photo taken in studio with controlled lightings all around. This is what most phone users are looking for but not to my taste as dark shadows play a major part in expressing the scene.
Thanks 🙏 the photography kit, is really good for one thing currently, and that's for the case and filter mount, which is a life saver ! The grip is flawed and useless in its current state until they fix it's flaws (my previous video was all about the photography kit as a matter fact) So really down to you, if you can get it at a low price go for it, at full retail price absolutely NOT
No questions the Xiaomi 14 ultra hands down, it is to this day THE phone to beat for photography and videography overall. Bigger main sensor (Sony 1 inch type sensor) dual base native ISO, full variable aperture... Then there's the issue of that "all in one" telephoto periscope, relying on sensor crop only for zoom has major downsides like fixed depth of field across the range, subpar bokeh due to the periscope module and not having a dedicated module like the Xiaomi and its 3.7x and overall the lack of quality from a sensor that packs so many pixels in such a small space... So that's my answer, but obviously everyone needs are different and if photography is not a main factor then I'm sure there are other variables that could push someone towards the Honor 👍
Thank you really appreciate 🙏 if you look back a couple of videos I had a whole video about Xperia 1 V vs the Xiaomi 🙂 in regards to the Vivo I don't intend on buying it. Much more restricted in terms of 3rd party app potential (lacks support for raw video / 30fps raw burst mode...) and the hardware is still better on the Xiaomi side. 👍
@@UpsideLens thanks for answer, I saw that comparison video, it was very valuable👍 Yes Vivo lacks in terms of video, also don't have 4k120 as Xiaomi, but in terms of photography it is really close, maybe even better in some cases, even if it have older 1inch sensor. I had both but returned it because I want to try new Xperia which is still on the way, but I assume that I will end with 14Ultra or x100 Pro, and now in my country it is for even same price both are under 1050€ or you can get 14 Ultra bunde with photography kit and wireless charger for 1199€ which is really good price compared to MSRP...
@konkurentLC I'll save you the hassle, don't get the Xperia 1 VI ! As much as I loved my Xperia 1 V the new one is a hot mess ! I had a hands on for a few hours yesterday with it and was extremely frustrated with it, overall poor results all around unfortunately
@@UpsideLens exactly my feelings in past days when finally non-sponsored Sony reviews started to appear, most of them mention system bugs and also don't praise the battery life as well as it was advertised by Sony, I'm not even talking about the telephoto lens... I was convincig myself for past 3 years to try Xperia especially for autofocus and dedicated shutter button but overall I don't think it's worh 300€ more than xiaomi or vivo, even with a free headphones... and I don't even mention that Xperia is probably the last phone with bezels and Sony can't implement any kind of face unlock there...
@@konkurentLCagree with you exxept on bezels. I prefer bezels than a big hole in my multimedia AMOLED screen for the camera. That's an insult to anyone loving video content.
I was far from being the only person there that day, the peak district region whilst being huge is a very popular destination and the padley gorge forest is also a tourist spot 😅
great video and the review was just perfect I had a question regarding choosing between xiaomi 14 ultra and rx100 VII. In your opinion, for now currently near 2025 buying which one worth it?
Thank you I really appreciate 😊 now regarding your question, it's a tough one really, one is a phone, one is a dedicated camera with ergonomics million years better than a phone could dream of... It really depends on your needs and expectations. There are pros and cons on both. I personally would prefer the Xiaomi because I can just take it everywhere with me. The camera I probably wouldn't literally take everywhere, but that's just me. In the video department the Xiaomi will fare much better too, again it really depends on your use case and I can't answer that one for you.
No I haven't yet, I do want to start some astrophotography but around where I live there is way too much light pollution to be able to get anything decent. I'll be looking at that in the future. Otherwise yes I have done long exposures, especially in this video too at the end for the waterfall shots
How do DXOMark manage to rank this lower than many other smartphone cameras given the beautiful results you are managing to produce? I find the same contradiction with the S24 Ultra which is producing more colour accurate daylight shots and better lowlight shots than my Oppo Find X7 Ultra! As an experienced photographer, do you find DXO misleading? Lovely video btw!
I wouldn't use anything over 5x RAW for photography let alone 10x jpg or more ! For night photography stick to main lenses and RAW, that's your best bet to get something descent. For any other purpose than photography you'll get something useable up to about 30x after that it's just a Picasso lol
@@UpsideLens I know that, but as I have Oppo find x7 ultra, magnificent, solid in all scenarios, great in night zoom too, especially in Master mode, up to 10x, I wonder if other competitor, such as 14 ultra or vivo x100 pro/ultra, could deliver better long zoom , even if digital. And I wonder how 14 ultra really manage highlights (lens flare)
Yes you can create presets in pro mode with different combinations of settings for various scenarios aka night time settings, long exposure settings and so on.
I'll be honest I don't use any sort of digital zoom, I only shoot RAW with native focal lengths because for photography I need the best a sensor can give me. In terms of lens flare it's very subtle but one massive advantage the Xiaomi has over your oppo is the variable aperture on the main sensor ! Not only can you control the level of depth of field as well as the amount of light that hits the sensor (especially handy in low light) but it also gives you that typical star like lens effect when shooting bright lights just like you would get on a regular camera with regular lenses. Again that's thanks to the variable aperture blades.
As a Mi 13 ultra users what I really want from the 14 is the Macro mode lmao, the 13 just lacks any macro capabilities. Since it doesn't have any floating lenses. Oh and also lens switching in 4k 60 video😅
@UpsideLens The 15 ultra should be releasing soon in china, would you be reviewing it? I'd love to see it compared with the vivo x200 pro considering the 14 ultra is still trading blows with it dispute being a generation behind.
@@UpsideLens Hmm with the reception of the 14 ultra I really hope they release it globally. There's also rumours of them using the same 200mp zoom sensor from the vivo x200! 😁
@ILFforever yes that sensor is my main issue... Slapping a higher 200mp "wanna do it all" sensor is just backwards ! I said it about the x200 ultra ! Relying on sensor crops doesn't cut it, the depth of field remains the same throughout the fake range of Focal length. I'd take less but bigger pixels on a telephoto sensor any day !
I have the Xiaomi 14 ultra Which raw is better. Raw or ultra raw? Also if you can get your hands on a Motorola edge 30 ultra. I used to use the raw from that one and it was more organic. The dng files were original 25mb. Here it seems Xiaomi is somewhat pre processing the raw(like gcam raw) so file sizes are lesser than 15mb usually
It depends on the use case, ultra raw stacks raws to effectively Denoise the photos. At night time I definitely wouldn't use ultra raw as it will add shutter lag which will be the difference between a crisp shot and a blurry one. In bright daylight ultra raw can give you cleaner shots but do bare in mind you wouldn't be able to run lightroom Denoise afterwards (at least not effectively) as it is already processed.
@@UpsideLens ok cool thank you. Let me go with raw only then. I wish the front camera also had raw like my moto that I sold. I am currently using gcam for front camera raw Like you, I also kind of do not use auto mode, unless it's extremely dark and I can't hold my phone so still, for a low iso. Because it seems to do too many unnecessary things. Not many people actually understand this.
Tbh unless it's a selfie for friends and family I'd avoid the front camera completely, I've never actually used it myself 😅 they're just tiny sensors and no good comes out of them generally 👍 yes manual + raw is the way to go 👍
@@UpsideLens yes agreed. Atleast they could try some half decent sensors. The moto's 60mp I was able to extract good detail at day time from it and managed to output selfies better than most flagships, even the popular ones. But yeah turning around the camera, not everyone seems to be fond of
It's all about physics at the end of the day, the bigger the sensor (not MP) the bigger the optics so it would be nigh on impossible to fit a descent sensor at the front. Nothing wrong with turning the phone the other way round 🤷 alternatively get someone to take a photo of you instead 😉
I briefly played with the X100 but never laid hands on the Ultra. I'm not a mega fan of sensor crop focal lengths due to losing the physical properties of a real focal length. I know Xiaomi may be going that way too in their next 15 Ultra but we'll have to wait and see.
purchased this last week, could not be more happier with my purchased, my wife used 15 pro max, but the different is just huge. what a magnificent camera(im ex nikon d800 user so i can appreciate the quality in this camera)
I'm really glad you're enjoying your Xiaomi ! It is just an awesome phone ! It's not perfect, far from it but overall as a package and considering it's hardware and abilities, you just can't beat it even still today ! 👍
oh man, I got my Xiaomi 14 ultra last weekend, I can't say it just amazing, it has so many features, AI processing after shooting, 30x zoom AI processing just crazy, made over a hundrder photos just at day 1! it's really #1 camera phone!
same :)
Hello from CIS, Kyrgyzstan. I migrated from my Pixel 7 Pro to Xiaomi 14 Ultra I'm glad to met your video about mobile photography.
Welcome to the channel mate 👍 hope you enjoy the videos and hopefully learn a thing or two in the process 👌
How would you compare both?
@@chukwuebukaamaechiI got rid of Pixel. It is absolutely useless device compared to Xiaomi. Dark 3.4 aperture on inconvenient 120mm telephoto with annoying oversharpening is a nightmare. Xiaomi has more natural colors, good REAL bokeh and more advanced functionality does its job. Google is deceiving us - Pixel is bad in photos. It has problems with artifacts in post-processing. It is not suitable for portraits at all. The future of mobile photography belongs to Chinese smartphones!
The perfect video I needed , all other creators have tested it in studios and all , but true capabilities of this phone can be experienced in nature.
I also suggest you go watch my latest video, I got down to the last bit of juice left out of the phone hahaha
Awww thanks again ❤️
it's not the phone, it's your skill that made the shots so delicate
Absolutely agree that composition and editing are essential but the Xiaomi is the closest to a camera I have ever tested in how its lenses behave 🤩
got my 14 ultra couple days after release and this phone is amazing. also your pictures are really good. good stuff
Enjoy 😉 in the right hands this thing is a beast 💪👍
im sold bruh.. youve got some stunning photos with the phone

I also migrated from Xperia 1V to Xiaomu 14U for photo features, so your videos are very helpful. Thank you!
Well stay tuned as there's a lot more content on the way 🙂
How is your experience so far?
Great work as always, Seb. Those shots were so pretty. Nice B roll, too. 👌
Tha knyou really appreciate 👌
Amazing video, amazing photos. Thank you!
Thank you so much, really appreciate the kind words 👍
Sorry but I think you are very good as I tried the xiomi and no photo I took looked like your photos...great job!
Good Analysis. Well explained and articulated. Brilliant photos
Thank you 👍 glad you enjoyed it ☺️
I've been gawking at this phone for months. Hope to get it for my birthday. It truly is the best camera phone of 2024. No other phone can compete.
It isn't perfect but as a whole it's one of, if not, the best indeed !
@@UpsideLens Exactly. I mean the photography kit is just one of the many reasons its the best
I'd lower my expectations on the photography kit if I was you though, I made a video all about it ! Go give it a watch 👍
@@UpsideLens ah sweet I’ll give it a watch then!
Did you used any lence or filters?
If you watch the video, towards the end for the long exposure shots I used an ND filter. Did not use attachment lenses here
Great contents as always, Seb!
This video proves once again that the most important thing is not the camera but the person behind it!
Couple of things:
1) It would be so useful if you could hint somewhere in the corner which device you are shooting with (Xiaomi? GoPro? Any other device?)
2) In the beginning the exposure jumps up and down, weird))
3) Missing the shutter button?
4) Missing the Xperia Camera UI?
Tripod shots are sick tho
Thanks mate really appreciate 😊
I did think about it but thought it was obvious which was which... All the good quality video is from the Xiaomi and the rest is the crappy action cam 😅 I did say towards the end of the video that when it comes to video all b-roll and head talking shots where taken on the Xiaomi using mcpro24fps 10bit LOG
In regards to jumping exposure, when filming on location and I'm doing vlog style the camera has to be in auto to compensate for lighting changes.
Great video and amazing pics! Can you share a link of the trypod you used? I see a Gorilla in the description but it's not the same one... Yhanks!
@UpsideLens Sorry to hear that 😅 Any recommendation of a tripod for the Xiaomi 14 ultra?
Anything will do mate, if you want small light and sturdy carbon fibre all the way, otherwise anything else paired with a phone clamp will do 👍
Great photography! The photos that you show in the video, are they straight from camera or have they had any post processing?
I shoot all my photos in RAW meaning that I edited them. I used lightroom classic 👍
What about the RAW files? How do they compare to the other smartphones?
All photos taken for this video were shot RAW (apart from the portrait photo and the scene one) put simply those are the best raw files I've had to work with ! Noise is very grain-like as opposed to horrible digital noise. Hope that answers your question. Alternatively I also filmed a whole POV street photography video all shot in RAW
Have you filmed 0:30 to 1:00 with the Phone as well? Thank :)
Hi yes as I mentioned towards the end of the video all B-Roll and talking shots were filmed with the Xiaomi 👍
Love it mate, funnily enough I've got a shoot tomorrow but I think I'd better take my Canon lol
Well it depends what the shoot is for I guess
@@UpsideLens it's a model portfolio shoot, I think she might be annoyed if I don't take a camera
I am impressed with the Xiaomi 14ultra's photography capability
A very helpful video re the various camera modes etc. Have you tried the phone with the optional Xiaomi camera kit?
Hi yes, I made a video about it just after this one 👍
@@UpsideLens Thanks, just watched it now. Good to know the limitations of the photography kit.
Yes it is a shame it is a half baked product. Hopefully Xiaomi will listen and maybe improve on the next iteration ?
You're welcome, just like any phone you don't have to have a SIM card in you can just use the phone with WiFi.
If the 16 ultra will have a f1.8 and f8 aperture sensor, I might consider it. F4 doesn't really give the star effect I love.
the best portrait mode on any phone, the color science is unmatched.
Were the photos that you added as the video went along edited afterwards or straight out of the camera/phone.. Look amazing
Thanks and yes all photos I take are shot in manual mode in RAW format and edited afterwards in Lightroom Classic, no camera would have straight out of camera shots like those 😅
@UpsideLens haha I was thinking that but was being overly hopeful😂😂

@UpsideLens haha I was thinking that but was being overly hopeful😂😂
Thank you @@UpsideLens really appreciate the replies ❤
You're welcome, that's the whole purpose of the channel, to help people out 👌
I used to have Xiaomi 12s Ultra and compared it with Google Pixel 7 Pro, Xperia 1 V.
Cheers
I shall put it in the pipeline next to "the best smartphone camera to shoot your lasagna in 2024" 😉😂
Joke aside the first thing I'll say is in 2 years Xiaomi have nailed colour science compared to older models which did have weird behaviours indeed.
Now the 14 ultra trumps all of that and gives stellar results especially when using the telephoto sensors compared to the Xperia phones.
the photographer is amazing
Great video! I've heard nice things about the Huawei Pura 70 series. Do you have any plans to test their camera mechanics? I'm curious about how practical they are.
Thank you 😊 I won't sadly, since the phones I use are my daily drivers I couldn't live with a phone that doesn't natively support Google services or don't have global releases. Having said that even if the Huawei did have those prerequisites I am not big fan on relying on sensor crops for telephoto. You just cannot beat physics and the way a "real" focal length works.

Me too 😅.
Great video, sir, and those shots - particularly the long exposures - are amazing. The foamy stuff, btw, are left by spittlebugs after they feed on the plant sap (I used to think people had been gobbing on the plants.)
Users really are spoilt for choice these days - Vivo or Xiaomi seem to be neck and neck with Huawei hampered by the lack of a global unit. I was wondering if you'd experienced any shutter lag, as I have a chance of picking up a cheap second hand 13U and I'd heard it was an issue.
Xiami have more realistic colors, meanwhile Vivo if to staurated or of when comes to colors
@@UpsideLens many thanks and great work again.

One of best video on entire RUclips channel for 14 ultra settings.... I'm a bit confused how settings 23mm or 75mm🤔
Thank you I really appreciate 😊 not sure what you mean by settings for 23mm or 75mm
@@UpsideLens in your video after showing every photo, compare the settings.
Example 23.mm- iso 100-8 sec and f2.8
Others value easy on pro mode 23 mm I don't understand how to choose.
Hello, Can you please compare these phones? I mean this, vivo x100 ultra and Huawei or pixel 9

Wonderful. Did you have any kind of condensation issues with the lens?
Hey thanks, really appreciate 😊 short answer is no. I was aware of the issue going around and did read about it but just like any other brand of any electronic manufacturers some issues are bound to happen at very small percentage, but that minority always tends to be very vocal about their issues hence why you end up hearing about it exponentially more than anyone having a good time with their product.
Anyway, like I said, never had this issue myself and I did shoot in various environments, dry to sudden humidity, warm to cold, cold to hot... Having bought my phone from a third party, I always had the option anyway to send it back for a straight swap had anything happened but thankfully never had to 😊
@@UpsideLens You do have a point about those issues being louder than the positive feedback. Thank you for the response and the video!

I have this phone too. Really good job 👍👍👍
Which luts do you use ?
Thanks
Hi thanks really appreciate 😊 I do not use LUTS for video, I record in LOG and grade each bit of footage individually. In terms of photos I didn't use any presets if that's what you meant, again I hand graded every single photo. I did make a preset pack (link in the description) from the hundreds of photos I have been grading since I started the channel 👍
Gorgeous location 😍
How much colour grading / filters did you apply to the X14U shots in post?

Nice video.
Battery life ain't great yet and it also heats up pretty easy, had the phone for a week now. After how long does the software settle down?
Battery life definitely isn't a problem for me, on average by the time I get to bed at 11.30pm/midnight I have about 35%/30% battery left and I would class myself as a pretty heavy user (I do not game on the phone though)
@@UpsideLens does yours overheat?

I'm still really love the whole phone but I do agree the UI is abit bad.
Did you edit all the photos

The 14 ultra is already a very good phone when it comes to photo/video and still has the 3.7x as a regular module. The 15 Ultra may do it all with a big periscope lens which will be a downgrade in my eyes. Relying on higher megapixel sensors for sensor crops will be detrimental to the final output. The main sensor may be slightly improved but for now, if I was to get a phone right now it would still be the 14 ultra. Hope that helps
@UpsideLens شكراً لك
Great video is xiaomi 14 ultra worth buying without photography kit?
Thanks 🙏 the photography kit, is really good for one thing currently, and that's for the case and filter mount, which is a life saver ! The grip is flawed and useless in its current state until they fix it's flaws (my previous video was all about the photography kit as a matter fact)
So really down to you, if you can get it at a low price go for it, at full retail price absolutely NOT
@@UpsideLens thanks for your reply the photography kit is not for sale in Denmark respect to you.
@nielsjunker1487 I'm sure you could always use eBay and have it imported. I know second hand kits got for pretty cheap all things considered 👍
Im really confused between the mi 14 ultra and the magic 6 pro , i wonder which one is better in photography, may you just help me out !
Does it record video with the same photo quality?
I do explain in the vlog what the quality is like when recording videos 👍 all the head talking shots and b-roll was recorded using the phone
Really good job! I have one question, do you have chance to compare this or Xperia 1V with Vivo x100 Pro or that one isn't available in your country?
Thank you really appreciate 🙏 if you look back a couple of videos I had a whole video about Xperia 1 V vs the Xiaomi 🙂 in regards to the Vivo I don't intend on buying it. Much more restricted in terms of 3rd party app potential (lacks support for raw video / 30fps raw burst mode...) and the hardware is still better on the Xiaomi side. 👍
@@UpsideLens thanks for answer, I saw that comparison video, it was very valuable👍
Yes Vivo lacks in terms of video, also don't have 4k120 as Xiaomi, but in terms of photography it is really close, maybe even better in some cases, even if it have older 1inch sensor.

I had a question regarding choosing between xiaomi 14 ultra and rx100 VII.

Did you do night long exposures?
No I haven't yet, I do want to start some astrophotography but around where I live there is way too much light pollution to be able to get anything decent. I'll be looking at that in the future. Otherwise yes I have done long exposures, especially in this video too at the end for the waterfall shots
@@UpsideLens are you deleting my reply?
??? No I haven't deleted anything mate ?
@@UpsideLens, I have tried to post a reply twice. Didn't find it. I'll try again.
🤔 not sure, I know sometimes comments get flagged for no reason by YT but not sure mate
Ok I won't speak ill of big names out there but all I'll say is you wouldn't be the first person questioning DxOMark's integrity 🫢😅
Hey really nice Video! :) Xiaomi 14 Ultra or newest Xperia 1 / Xperia 5 ?
Thank you really appreciate 😊 I made a video, literally after this one about the Xiaomi Vs Xperia 1VI go give it a watch 😉
What about long night zoom (above 10x) and night lens flare? Thanks
@@UpsideLens pardon, about custom photographic styles, could you create 1 preset? More preset (2, 3 etc) thanks again
The macro mode really doesn't disappoint ! Switch the to the 3.7x and enjoy awesome bokeh macro mode !!!
@UpsideLens The 15 ultra should be releasing soon in china, would you be reviewing it?
I'd love to see it compared with the vivo x200 pro considering the 14 ultra is still trading blows with it dispute being a generation behind.
It all depends on the specs and I would only consider a global phone, so it really is down to Xiaomi at this stage 😉
I'd take less but bigger pixels on a telephoto sensor any day !
i really like that phone but it's not available here in our country 😢
new subscriber here🙂
Hey welcome 😁 yes it sucks when they only make certain phones available in some countries only 😟
Nice video ❤
Thank you much appreciate the kind words 👍
I have the Xiaomi 14 ultra
Which raw is better.
I am currently using gcam for front camera raw
Like you, I also kind of do not use auto mode, unless it's extremely dark and I can't hold my phone so still, for a low iso.
Have you try Vivo X100 Pro/Ultra?
I briefly played with the X100 but never laid hands on the Ultra. I'm not a mega fan of sensor crop focal lengths due to losing the physical properties of a real focal length. I know Xiaomi may be going that way too in their next 15 Ultra but we'll have to wait and see.
Thanks fort
