Thank you ever so much for the kind words, much appreciated 😃 I know indeed a lot of people review tech as tech and not as a tool to create art aka these cameras have such MP count, they can do this and that but my take on it is that one can achieve great things as soon as they start forgetting they're using a phone but start concentrating on the principles of photography. Yes it does, but I do not tend to use those modes, I use the phone as I would use an actual camera, in manual, raw and edit in lightroom afterwards, again just like I would with a camera.

Tbh I haven't, no... Maybe that's something that happened in automatic jpg mode ? I shoot manual RAW 99% of the time. Might be worth having a look on Reddit if others have experienced the same thing ?

@@UpsideLens that's true. But i really expected better after the hype. I'm a Xiaomi fan and have used them for a while. I thought this phone might lure me away from Leicas 🙈 I guess that was wishful thinking. You're working well with it though 👍🏼

Nope still the main issue of not being able to lock focus on half press. I have raised the issue on various platforms but no answers were given and the grip hasn't been updated since, at least on my UK version

@leegalea9724 I mean it is good for the case alone and the ability to use filters and the grip does act as a power bank, I just don't use it as a grip that's all

If shooting video in low light aka deep cave exploration I highly suggest you shoot with a third party app called fcpro24fps and use their 10bit log mode at full bitrate (160mbps) which not only allows for a much cleaner less processed look than native app due to bypassing the ISP but also allows for much more in-depth editing afterwards

True but at the same time it is more convenient to have a consistent USB connection which reduces the shutter lag, which is the reason they used it. Plus we get a power bank use out of it 👍

It can when used with third party app like fcpro24fps where you can use a true LOG and 10bit at a much higher nitrate and bypassing the processing of the ISP. Gives better results than even iPhone Prores !

I have made a video comparing this phone to other phones in regular jpg but this channel focuses on actual photography as opposed to point and shoot jpg automatic mode.

Basically it always uses the full sensor then down samples it to 12mp. However you can use the 50mp mode and you end up with the full 50mp but that's only good if used in good lighting.

@@UpsideLens B7ut the RAW Pictures (when used) are always full size images?! I kinda get the point to use the downsampled image. My Xiaomi 12 also has a 50mp sensor. and i placed the 50mp button right next to Photo, so i can get my full sized images. But when i like to set it as standart, there isnt a option for that.

I shoot all my photos in RAW meaning that I edited them. I used lightroom classic 👍

Hi I made a video review of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, video especially if using third party apps like motion cam or fcpro24fps will be much much better on the Xiaomi.

Unfortunately using digital zoom will always give you less than desirable results even on a tripod. You need to stick to the "real" native focal lengths for best results

The Xiaomi, I do talk about how I only used the Xiaomi for all b-roll and talking shots. I only used the GoPro for POV footage.

The Xperia phones are all about manual mode, to get good shots you need to shoot raw in manual mode and edit your photos afterwards. That's how you can get camera like shots. iPhone photos are processed straight out of the box and even in raw mode which from a photographer point of view is everything you do not want. It's fine for photos you want to show friends and family, the photo of the lasagne you cooked up and random daily stuff but for actual photography iPhones are just not there yet. They produce images that scream "I was shot on a phone" and it's due to iPhones having small sensors and iOS processing the photos over the top. Again it's fine for most but as a photographer that just is not a good starting point.

@@UpsideLens Yes, that's the only place I can find it. Well, you can also press the Grip shutter button and whether it's connected to the camera or not, a red light means its battery is below 20%. But I want to know more clearly than that!

Unfortunately at this stage I don't think any update will sort those issues since it has been a few months and after posting this video, logging it in on feedback app and contact CEO directly via twitter, nothing has changed... One can hope but.....

You must be paid yourself in that case... And in manual ? Be my guest and watch the rest of the video, noise on all RAWS at all ISO... having owned the 1V for over 6 months I can even go as far as saying the VI is worse in its raw processing ! More artefacting in lens distortion and correction (as shown on video) and unacceptable levels of noise on telephoto shots ! I'm not a brand snob and don't praise a company just because they're called Sony or Apple, fanboyism has to stop at some point so manufacturers can actually improve ! Not acceptable in 2024 for a brand to re-use an old tiny sensor they've been using since the 1IV in this sub-par telephoto !

​@@UpsideLens Again, how can you expect to be taken seriously, when you claim the London Eye to be noisy on Xperia and more sharp on Xiaomi, thats the exact opposite. But anyway in general, I guess you prefer processed Imaging, as used to be the trend for many socalled reviewers (read; none photographers). People have to make up their own verdict, but never based on one single review alone. I've seen many reviews thats tells another story, made by reviewers that obviously is neutral.

@michaelnielsen9685 look dude, you do you, I had the V, I tested the VI and it's all there to be seen if you remove the blinkers, whether you can see past the fanboyism is down to you, can't do that for you. Nothing is in it for me, Xiaomi ain't gonna pay a 2k subs channel to make up a fake review lol at the end of the day if you think the VI is better than the Xiaomi then great, just remember the sensors are just on another level on the Xiaomi, which just gonna throw it out there, are also made by Sony ! Just much newer and larger than what they could put inside their OWN phone lol have a great day 👍😊

Technically this IS version 2, they already had one for the 13 Ultra, still can't get my head around how they didn't include the ability to lock focus on half press of the shutter button like any camera can do !!! 🤯 Blows my mind !

I haven't tried the 13 ultra myself but from what I've seen, yes the improvements are there (better sensors, full variable aperture...) but it probably isn't worth upgrading. I'd wait until the 15 ultra is announced and make a decision then 👍

@@UpsideLens I am not advocating either Sony, I have an Ultra 14, my point was one of relevance as your title is Best Camera Phone of 2024 for Photography - the Xperia 1 V was released on May 11, 2023 so I would expect any 2024 flagship to beat it easily.

The VI wasn't out when I made this video. Fact remains that the V is still a better phone than the VI for photography. The 14 Ultra though beats both by a long margin.

Thank you for the kind words 👍 you have a beautiful country ! Been there a few times in the past and absolutely love Singapore ! Now for the settings you're looking for they're hidden in the more/features section in the photo app (by default you scroll to the right to find those settings where it says video, photo, portrait....) Now I personally wouldn't use those as for one you can only use them in jpg, meaning you wouldn't be able to edit them properly afterwards but also this type of processing won't give you realistic results, it's all trickery and post processing. I suggest instead to switching to manual mode instead and playing with exposure length (slow shutter speed) 👍

It depends on the use case, ultra raw stacks raws to effectively Denoise the photos. At night time I definitely wouldn't use ultra raw as it will add shutter lag which will be the difference between a crisp shot and a blurry one. In bright daylight ultra raw can give you cleaner shots but do bare in mind you wouldn't be able to run lightroom Denoise afterwards (at least not effectively) as it is already processed.

@@UpsideLens ok cool thank you. Let me go with raw only then. I wish the front camera also had raw like my moto that I sold. I am currently using gcam for front camera raw Like you, I also kind of do not use auto mode, unless it's extremely dark and I can't hold my phone so still, for a low iso. Because it seems to do too many unnecessary things. Not many people actually understand this.

Tbh unless it's a selfie for friends and family I'd avoid the front camera completely, I've never actually used it myself 😅 they're just tiny sensors and no good comes out of them generally 👍 yes manual + raw is the way to go 👍

@@UpsideLens yes agreed. Atleast they could try some half decent sensors. The moto's 60mp I was able to extract good detail at day time from it and managed to output selfies better than most flagships, even the popular ones. But yeah turning around the camera, not everyone seems to be fond of

It's all about physics at the end of the day, the bigger the sensor (not MP) the bigger the optics so it would be nigh on impossible to fit a descent sensor at the front. Nothing wrong with turning the phone the other way round 🤷 alternatively get someone to take a photo of you instead 😉

The A6700 is an awesome camera 👍 I'm sure you'll be very happy with it 😄

Very simply there are 2 things to think about. If you know photography in general (like with a real camera) then Xiaomi 14 ultra will give you some of the best photos you can have in 2024. If you're not into photography and like point and shoot and don't want to edit your photos then either iPhone or Samsung. Both Samsung and iPhones have mediocre sensors and if you want to shoot raw they both have a lot of processing, which is not good. So to summarise. If you want point and shoot in jpg and no editing then iPhone or Samsung. If you want to shoot raw, and edit the files to get the best photos a phone can shoot in 2024 then Xiaomi.

The review is not biased... Please look at my actual Xperia 1 VI review where I compare it to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, there is no question that when it comes to quality the Xperia 1 VI doesn't do very well due to many factors highlighted in the video. I bought the Xiaomi 14 ultra with my own money, I used to own the Xperia 1 V and a subscriber lent me their Xperia 1 VI to do the review so this video is not biased by any means, I don't get paid by any of the said brands , the shots shown in the videos show the results...

Unfortunately I will have to disagree. Having tested the Xperia 1VI I can positively say that the macro mode is not very good and here are the reasons why. No RAW macro mode, only very compressed jpg, then there is no autofocus when in macro mode, then the 48mp mode is not available when shooting macro, the stabilisation is hopeless when using macro and lastly, due to using the old telephoto sensor (the one used in the Xperia 1IV) the detail is very mushy and the bokeh ends up not looking pleasing but very processed overall.

The "issues" I had with the V (and subsequently with the VI in a following video I made) are to do with the sensor specs, not something that can be fixed, telephoto shots even on the VI are bad compared to other brands using much better and newer sensors.

Thank you I'm glad you enjoyed it 👍 I always try to stay away from "trickeries". Yes the phone has various modes to mimic certain types of photos, just like the iPhone also has. But you can only do so in jpg since it will spit out a very processed shot. To give you a comparison it's like making a home made lasagne and buying a microwavable ready meal lasagne.... It technically has the same name but it won't look or taste the same at all... 🤣 There's no cutting corners for photography, if you want the real deal and awesome results you gotta stick by the rules 😉

@UpsideLens thank you for the reply. Yeah I always thought, what's the difference. When i tried to capure light trails or silky water, somehow the 'trickeries' makes it so good. Probably I need to brush up my settings and editing skills.
