i was 80% getting this xiaomi 14 ultra have been researching and watching the rest of the tech review . Didnt convinced me ... but you did with this video. Great job MI for reaching out to this talented photographer . Good review video!!
Finally some brand approached a photographer for their "camera oriented phones". Im so fed up of brands letting their camera phones being reviewed by tech reviewers who takes photos indoors or just bland photos in broad daylight. All photos look shit. I have been personally texting brands to send their phones to legit photographers. Noice video Mike ❤
Currently using an S21 Ultra for photography which is still an amazing camera, but i think my next upgrade has to be the 14 ultra. Getting a DSLR or a Mirrorless has never interested me as most photographs i take, are in/from places where proper cameras arent allowed. Also most of the time i dont feel like carrying around a 2nd device and needing to keep both charged. The point and shoot nature of the Xiaomi and the quality make a worthy substitute in most cases. Some of the shots in this video are incredible and you'd assume weren't taken on a phone.
What a coincidence, I was in Brick Lane with my 14 Ultra on Tues. I went to the Lego Exhibition. it was dimly lit in the gallery, but I got some great shots! I'm using the Photography kit with mine, got some compliments on my camera/phone from a few people too!
Good video! I was torn many times seeing this advancements in mobile camera phones and questioning my regular camera setup. Sometimes less is more. This product looks like a nice bridge between both worlds!
I never liked using pro modes but on the xiaomi 14 ultra the quality is INSANE. Ultra RAW and all those presets (luts) makes it even for me very nice to use. Really good job from xiaomi.
This is a really good video man. Im keen for a new phone as im unhappy with my Pixel and all im really interested in is the camera being as good as it can be so this looks spot on. Some of your shots were brilliant btw.
Like a number of viewers here, Ive found it really refreshing to hear from an actual photographer, rather than a potentially brand bias youtuber. This video was enjoyable to watch, and neatly demonstrates the phones capabilities. Feels like some of the other videos ive seen regarding this phone either, intensionally downplayed the cameras abilities, or didnt fullly understand how to use the camera. Really valued the review at the end🙏🏿👍🏿🙂
I would add that with the photography kit, you get an adaptater ring which allows you to put your filters, hoods and covers (67mm). With that it really looks like a camera.
Brilliant review and wonderful photos! One thing I would have loved to see is how it performs in low light. And also how well it does for video (mainly dynamic range and whether it oversharpens and that kind of thing). The extra grip... dang. That’s compelling!
Both X100 Pro and 14 Ultra are insanely good. Pictures taken lacking the typical “smartphone” camera look that is bombarded with excessive post processing and just let the impressive Sony TYL sensor do its job.
Really loved the way the review was done from a photographer point of view. I got myself a Xiaomi 14 because i couldn't afford to get this Ultra model. If you could do a same review or just comment on Xiaomi 14 model, your opinions, it would be great. Thanks again.👍
The review was great but my main takeaway from the video was the "sketching" I was out sitting earlier this week and did some sketches with my phone just sort of naturally. Things I wanted to photograph but didn't feel the need to get the camera out for.
Hello thanks for your review, I should be getting mine soon... I'm curious, was your coffee shot at 5:49 on pro mode or auto? I wonder why it was shot at 1/8000s with a high ISO of 2070.... did it choose to do that automatically? or was it you... and if it was you, would you kindly explain your choice? I mean I would have gone for the lowest possible ISO and shoot at 1/400s or even 1/200s ... to get as little graininess as possible... unless you were looking for grain... ?
My son got a Xiaomi. It was a great device but given they are rare in the UK, when something cracked in it, there was no way to get it fixed. It would be great if the camera companies created pro camera apps for phones
I never considered the difficulty of fixing them given they're more rare. I have certainly seen a few more in shops popping up so maybe that is improving. Thanks for watching!
Being used to my own M11 I get a bit frustrated when I'm out on runs and then take my camera out to take a picture of something and the image quality is pretty meh, oversharpened/oversaturated, etc. I really wish apple would allow you to add custom profiles and take off the sharpening and stuff, I'm stuck in their ecosystem ahah
Excellent presentation and because of it, I bought a new 14 Ultra with camera kit. I am a casual user of two Sony camera's, one the RX100mkV11 & an A7C full frame. Amount of time I can be bothered to have them with me? 2/10. Love taking photos? 10/10. Best shots taken? With the camera I have on me - my phone. I'm hoping the 14 Ultra will replace at least one of my Sony's, my only worry is whether a 14 Ultra will be still functional in five years time. The Son'y sure will.
Great video Mike. Have you seen Jesse Marlowe’s series of poster photos? The posters are his own street shots. In other words he was taking photos of his own photos. I know someone who is an ambassador for this phone company. One of the great advantages is that you are much less visible than with a conventional camera.
I have seen that series from Jesse! Love his work. Using a phone definitely provides some pros on the street, people are really less interested in what you’re doing which helps go unnoticed for sure.
Hey Mike. What a cool camera / phone, especially the Pro options for setting shutter speed etc. Frustrating that Apple don't have this feature, If I wasn't fully committed to the Apple ecosystem, I would give this some serious consideration. Chuffed about my little cameo appearance when we bumped into each other, that day. 🤜🏽
Just an FYI that this phone only does optical zoom at 3.2x and 5x. Anything in between, below or higher is completely digital and also won't be able to produce RAW files. As far as I know both telephotos now have much closer focusing distances than before so I think you might be able to get away with using the 3.2x instead of the 2x digital unless you prefer having the variable aperture+big sensor of the main camera that the telephotos don't have
It can shoot raw. Here's a review where the reviever/photographer who shot mostly in raw format. And his street photos are amazing. ruclips.net/video/Cpvbn9xx2tI/видео.htmlsi=GfGvi9Ru5jXmQqxo
Now I'm becoming more torn perhaps to get something like this rather than a RX100 VII... Looking for something with good to semi-pro quality at 5x ish zoom range and also capable in low light for potentially some concert photography
