Can we just appreciate how much work these videos are for the editor(s) every week. All the camera angles, the litte interviews, the card closeups and all the effects in videos over an hour. Just wow
I think there's a video about how josh edited the game knight episodes, and how they filmed it. It really is took a lot of work, but he hired another editor, i think.

Keep in mind this whole set was executed the way it was with brawl in mind. Sadly wotc saw the format go stale long before this set was scheduled to be out

You are correct. It's still dead. Also, not sure if 1v1 Brawl would live long in MTGA. Unless you spice it up with those special events it's just too easily solved.
2vs2 and 4vs is taking too long to show up on MTGA. farming ladder or cards in MTGA is only fun for some time, we need more fun game modes for people to play with friends.

Volkbrecht Singleton is already popular on arena, I suspect brawl will find new life on arena someday soon. It is ideal for the Jank lovers and works well this the wild card economy.

Sadly neither as I haven't played much Commander in a long time as my playgroup disbanded a while ago. So lately it's been more Arena (especially with a certain global thing happening).
Always so stoked to see more Game Knights content. Kind of disappointed we didn't get to see a Feather deck though after it's been so hyped up.

Did anyone else notice that Josh's love of vedalken orrery cost him from forking Karns temporal sundering? 2 turns has to win you the game there
I think it was his unreasonable fear of Handy having a counter spell. She never played any so if he'd waited for Jimmy's end step, he could have flashed in just the walker and the snipe. Then yes, two turns with every spell dishing out 3... the game should have been a lock.
That's fear for ya. Making your creatures unblockable except to black and artifact since the dawn of mtg.
Also, i am pretty sure that copying a legendary sorcery might have the legend rule apply and you would have to "not resolve" i guess one of them

I'm quite disappointed the no one played Nicol Bolas Dragon God as there Commander this game
All their generals are from WAR, Bolas was one of the first cards we got to knew from WAR (though it was through a leak). Not having a Bolas deck might be a player choice not a lack of time
Maybe that's because playing Nicol Bolas as Commander requires as little thought as "breathing to stay alive". It's lame. They want to entertain, not always have that one overrated excuse for a planeswalker.

@@rizzovg846 hahaha! It's a real trick, trying learning it sometime. It isn't as hard as it looks and pulling it off makes you look damn cool. You can also learn to do it with your fingertips so it looks like the cards glide across the mat, it's beautiful.

The way Emma says "please don't lie to me" when she plays Kiora just defines me in a commander game.
Pushing Brawl so hard but not putting it where it's clearly meant for (Arena) still remains so baffling to me. Sure, Arena doesn't have multiplayer support, but the better question then is why doesn't it have multiplayer support, given that so many popular formats are multiplayer?

@@Crowen. I agree they could, and I'm not to privy to why they didn't- I am also not a game designer. I feel like it would be a ton of work to implement, plus you'd have to ask 3 different players if they had responses sometimes- I still think they should though, since it's better to do it now than later when it's more work
Even Magic Duels has/had 2-Headed Giant. Not having multiplayer considered beforehand is pretty baffling.
@@ForeverLaxx they don't even need multiplayer support, 1v1 brawl would be fine. For now, we have to settle for Singleton, but it's just not the same.

See I played a forest on turn 2 which is a turn higher than last turn. Meaning I get 2 mana this turn instead of 1.

"Gain control" effect should have ended before exiling anything controlled by Jimmy. You are correct.

If it is a permanent that gave him control, then yes. If it is an instant or sorcery, then it goes to command.
Arrennia that’s not correct. The effect is ended, and the creature returns to its owner’s control. It’s under rule 800.4a. Only permanents OWNED by the losing player are removed from the game, not permanents CONTROLLED by the losing player.
I got hyped for a new Game Knights, but it's brawl. I'd love to see actual Commander gameplay on this channel again.

Think Wizards has it backwards. Theyre trying to create brawl hype through paper to justify the cost to implement it into arena while they should be doing the opposite.
Wizards has been kinda backwards in general when it comes to Arena. I think they're hoping to unseat Hearthstones by bringing in the paper-playing community

Again, I wanted to get into Brawl... but it rotates, so it's not happening.
Eternal Brawl at eternalbrawl.wordpress.com is where the nonrotating version lives. Pick a Standard environment from history (banlist pre-Brawl is cards banned in Standard), build out of it, and you're good. The site is all the possible commanders and Scryfall searches for each. I've got a Brawl deck for each possible Standard (32).
Rotation is what draws me to Brawl

@@ZaxploitationFilms Yeah, I've liked the two-year (basically) restriction on cards. It gives more cards purpose, rather than going "is this Cyclonic Rift? No? Toss it." And because the cards were R&D tested together, it's less likely that truly busted things are happening.
My INV/ODY/7 Cromat Brawl deck is loads of kicker Battlemages and Volvers and Tek and Draco types. Stuff that's not good enough for Commander but still loads of fun. That fun goes away when you expand the card pool out.

When a player leaves the game, all objects (see rule 109) owned by that player leave the game, any effects which give that player control of any objects or players end, and all spells and abilities controlled by that player on the stack cease to exist. Then, if there are any objects still controlled by that player, those objects are exiled. This is not a state-based action. It happens as soon as the player leaves the game. If the player who left the game had priority at the time he or she left, priority passes to the next player in turn order who’s still in the game.

Mistake at 54:50 Niv was grabbed from the Battlefield, so the moment the control effect ends, he goes back to Emma. He should only get exiled/commandzoned if he came into play under Jimmy's control, so there isn't an original controller to go back to.

That rule only applies to continous and temporary gain control effects (like mind control and act of treason mentioned in the examples for that rule). Entrancing Melody on the other hand is a one-shot effect, it happens once and then the game no longer acknowledges its existence. It is not something that can "end" at a later time.

My apologies then. Still find it weird that the examples of rule 800.4a mentions every other type of gain control effect, but not the one-shot types, especially since its quite an obscure rules interaction that doesn't work how most would expect it to.

Here we go again? We just put out three of what I consider our best Commander Game Knights episodes, including two in a single month over the last two months. We put out a new Game Knights with Brawl as part of our sponsorship (without it btw this show doesn't exist, full stop), and in between moderating out any extremely transphobic, racist, and abusive comments about our guests, still have tons of comments that are angry, entitled, etc you name it.
Here's the thing - you either get Game Knights as we make it, or you don't. The attitude we get from viewers doesn't and won't change the release schedule we have. This game we played was intense, filled with swings, and had some of our best guests. If you don't enjoy it, I understand that it is 100% YOUR right to have that opinion. Trust me. I get it. But I'm still too old school, I suppose, to hope that our followers understand the realities of our situation and the realities of how this show can continue to exist. Hope you enjoy it regardless, and maybe for a second if you don't, try turning that part of your opinion off for an hour and just have fun watching an episode of multiplayer Magic, provided to the world for absolutely free. That's just my personal request.
I guess people still think that, just because the channel is called "The Command Zone", its podcasts and games must be about Commander and Commander only, and anything else is "HURR DURR, THIS ISN'T A GAME, IT'S JUST ADVERTISEMENT, IT'S THE WORST THING EVER, HURR DURR!"
As long as the games are entertaining enough, I don't mind the show leaving the comfort of Commander every once in a while. In fact, my favorite Game Knights episode is still the Iconic Masters 12-pack sealed multiplayer with Wedge and the Professor.

I would love to see a game per week - even if it leads to repetitive guests/decks. Maybe you could have two games in a row. The second game could be Patreon exclusive to improve your balance?
Dude my wife and I were STOKED you put out a brawl episode! We LOVE the format! It's perfect for us, since we play commander, but still attend prerelease events and buy boxes of every new set. This format gives us a way to utilize all those cards we pull that arent quite good enough for our commander decks, but are still awesome cards!
You guys rock, the episode and guests were fantastic, and you guys put a lot of energy into something that you release to the world for free.
Keep it up, and remember that the lionshare of your viewership think you are doing amazing work, it's just the loud minority of people who want to complain for attention.
I understand that you guys try your best to make what you can considering the channel is pretty much owned by WOTC from a content perspective, referring to the Game knights portion, I just hate how you guys were not honest in the beginning. Instead you guys said it’s because of all the PW in the set you played brawl, but everyone can see it’s because of wizards, just we honest. What’s so wrong about just saying “today WOTC has asked us to play brawl for a change of pace and to show some of the PW off as commanders” like thats not bad it’s just full honesty, especially since you guys have stated you think brawl was a huge flop
The Hostage Taker pirate stealing Treasure Map sums up everything I love about Commander. I think it was done because it was ideal, but whether or not it was the right move or the wrong move, it was the Commander move.
Cedric was such a fun guest! I hope you have him back.
Like the episode, dont usually see a brawl game but this was a good match.
In overall the game was awesome considering to be a casual.

Is this correct? Because the entrancing melody gave control of Niv and finished resolving. It is not like an ongoing effect like a Control Magic or vedalken shackles.

@@eusouzoom Yes it's a bit weird how it works but basically anything that the losing player had under it's control that is owned by another player get's brought back under that player's control, regardless how it came on the battlefield.
The fact that Jimmy used a permanent control effect doesn't change the fact that Emma is the default controller. The control effect still ends and Niv should've returned to Emma.
If Jimmy had cast Niv or put it on the battlefield under his control, then yes, it would've been exiled.

I think they avoid loop combos because it's such an underwhelming way to win in casual play. they also avoid spells that slow the game ie. Sensei's top, Lim Dul's Vault Pillow fort strategy and so on

Cedric reminds me so much of the man who taught me magic personality wise. It brings so much nostalgia. I was taught magic during war of the spark era by a retired CO officer, he had that same smile and laugh. Even the same sense of humor. His name was Wendell, such a wise man but I moved away and lost contact. I miss you, Wendell, and I wish I could play magic in Bogarts like we used to:(

Not sure if I missed something, but shouldn't Jimmy's Finale of Rev have been exiled after the first cast, meaning he couldn't get it back with the flood of recollection?
It has to resolve to exile itself
Niv-Mizzet returns to Emma's board when Jimmy leaves. The change control effect ceases to exist and Niv returns to last controller, if any, or is exiled, if there wasn't any before (in case of something like Bribery).

@@diamondaries9966 Gather Specimens, Bribery, Commandeer, and Hostage Taker are all exceptions, because they involve zone changes, but Entrancing Melody and Mass Manipulation are simple "control effects", which end when the player controlling the effect dies
Thebluedragon98 is correct. Rule 800.4a applies to effects that grant you control for as long as the effect remains like mind control and act of treason. Entrancing Melody is a one-shot effect, not a continous or temporary one, and is therefore unafffect by that rule.
@@JmLyan It still a control changing effect that can be ended. The gathere of the card itself point it out that in a multiplayer game the control will end. The fact that it has not a determined end dont change that the card has a previous controler and the game will check it. Again, its on the card gathering so it should not be a inssue

When Oathbreaker isn't a broken format with loose rules. So, probably never.
Niv can't grab tri+ colored cards like Zacama (your example in the intro).

I think this was my favorite episode ever. Great demo of the new cards. Cedric and Emma had amazing plays. Josh had best mat ever. Jimmy. Well I don't know what Jimmy did in this episode.
