@@Unknowblerage That's something any deck in a game of commander has to deal with in order to win (except in 3-playeer games). Boros - with exceptions like Smothering Tithe - doesn't have much going for it in long-term value due to poor draw and ramp power, which means you're often forced into aggressive power play. Despite its efficiency at this, Boros can't finish three opponents quickly enough to prevent attacks on its own board and game state, which it can't defend due to lack of stack control. With a bad late game, recovery isn't really an option as well, so all you're left with are "One shot for glory"-decks that have a hard time once they're in line for the punching. This even extends into multi-color decks that invest heavily in combat damage. As someone who built and played a Kaalia deck into a local control meta, I experienced some of that myself, and I don't regret switching to Simic as a core guild one bit.
@@sebastianahrens2385 The funniest part of this is you are actually telling me this like i don't know these things. I've been playing this game for 20 years and I consider Commander to be the absolute best format due to the overwhelming variety of options in it. And I as well main Simic as my favorite color combination, but i grew tired and decided to branch out. While sure, Boros will probably never be tier one or even close, my Stroutarm beats deck still wins some games and it's more fun to play than holding up Cyc Rift to kill all my opponents in one swing or hitting an infinite graveyard loop. And, for the record, Kalia decks are not that good not because of Boros, but because it is perhaps one of the most telegraphed garbage tactics in the format. It's crap like what you said that turns new players off. Instead of just dumping on it, why not try and come up with new ways to make it better. Hell, work with other players....no no no, just kidding. You just keep doing what you do. I'm going to have some fun.

I think the budget decks would immediately became a lot more pricey after 1 episode
I don’t think it will happen because Mitch is sponsored br tcgplayer
Modern wisdom with Kenji Egashira:
"The clocks ticking and I'm not a watchmaker"
That treasure play was amazing. Nice little combo :)
Did he really buy 21 tresure tokens?!😂😂😂
"clock's ticking, and I'm not a watchmaker" my estimated meaning: Time is running out, and I can't do anything about it
Josh: "Boros just isn't very good." Also Josh: Turn four tithe/wheel combo.
#Picard Facepalm into maniacal laughing#
Even that advantage (plus the continued mana generation by Smothering Tithe) didn't win him the game. Boros by itself really isn't very good.
@@sebastianahrens2385 you know what, you're right. It's not like he had three opponents.
@@Unknowblerage Fun can be had in different ways. I personally enjoy playing at maximum efficiency and power. I don't think anyone is "turned off" by an analysis of gameplay, especially if they don't even know what it's about, possibly having never played the game before. The fact that MTG provides such a complex environment to explore is one of the reasons I started with it in the first place.
Jimmy is the hero of this game and don't you forget it
The clock’s ticking,
and I’m not a watchmaker.
FailFish
Fun fact: Kenji's original line was, "The clock's ticking, and I'm not a clockologist." It had us rolling in laughter, but it unfortunately didn't make the cut.
Nailed it.
Is this a shirt yet?
Community wanted Josh to play Boros and he still didn’t make a combat based deck 🤦♂️😂.
I mean it's the most Josh way possible.
You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. Josh doesn't care for combat, so he makes his decks to win somehow else.
F&S are way more interesting than generic Boros in my opinion.
As a player who enjoys combat focused decks, I'll never understand Josh.
I'd probably play Feather. Was she spoiled when this was released?
That was a great episode. Love that the fans stuck Josh with Boros, but because of Smothering Tithe and Sunforger, he was dominant through most of the game.
Josh should've pushed the nuclear button much earlier, at the peak of his life total, either when Rachel started attacking or when Erebos was casted.
Upon declaration of her first attack. You're alewDy a massive target, why take four damage three times? Trigger and take the gamble, before someone finds a solution to your threat.
Yeah I have no idea why he let that Erebos hit, I would have nuked right there.
I would have chose warped erebos waaaaay earlier!
That was amazing. The stack upon stack of instants and sorcery was sooo good!
I love watching Josh's beautiful mind unfold. They're the kind of plays I wish I could pull off.
and then he soft threw the game by not lasering the player messing him up the most
@@OhNoTheFace Yeah he shouldn't have stipulated that he'd nuke the player who brought him down past 65. But he did keep his word
This gameplay really showed the power of Sunforger. That card put in work. GG
Sunforger is great, but without all the extra mana from the Smothering Tithe, it wouldn't have worked so well. Card is very mana intensive.
In this particular situation yes. It would have been Sunforger or; without the proper amount of ramp.
Power of Boros in general! I hope that this sways the community on the point of boros
It's seriously amazing how many people watch these guys. Gives our game so much life!!!!!
Really cool editing! It was fun to watch! I've never seen a commander game in youtube presented that great! Nice work
I think the true winner of this game was jimmy.
He was definitely the moral winner. As an Izzet player, I really disliked Kenji's deck
@ to be fair he got skrew on land and the well gut is hand
@ Yes I also play it, it was kind of hard to watch...
I'm surprised Josh didn't just blow Rachel up after the Erebos since that by itself countered what Josh's deck does.
Regardless, this game was insane!
he lost because they thought the video wouldn't be good if she was kicked out early
"I am going to try and redeem myself by playing...Rakdos, the Showstopper" lol I cracked up at that part.
Josh threw that match but I totally get it, the match kinda blows if you kill someone that early
If you have 21 open mana, someone dies that turn.
Exactly, he had a sunforger he could have tutored for a win con or just a gain x life card and gain 20 kill someone
It’s been really awesome to see this channel returning to its roots and putting out great commander content again. Hope it continues.
Props to Rachel for the win, but we all know Jimmy wins for being literally Rakdos.
Loved this episode. The editing has been getting better and better and Rachel and Kenji were such great guests! Also Rachel congrats, love your nails btw!
OMG IS IT CHRISTMAS!?!?! 2 Game Knights in 1 month? Yes please
This is actually one of my favorite episodes of game knights, and it’s the first episode of game knights I’ve watched
That moment in 24 minutes.. that moment... I lived to see that moment.. so sweet..
I have tears in my eyes man.
Fantastic game. Jimmy and Josh were the clear stars.
"I refuse to live in fear of what that thing can do to me. If he is gonna kill me, I am gonna make him do it." The Scottsman in me is very proud, Jimmy. Live your best life, or no life. Dream on, man, and be free
Glad you guys did a drawing of the counter battle. I was getting whiplash.
Lol... never played 1v1 Counter wars I would assume
Anytime I see a game knights episode uploaded I stop everything and watch!
I was like breakfast can wait. Haha
Must have not a lot of things going on in your life
Ovcharka and you must not have much happiness if you have to try and be a dick in a YT comment section! :) have a nice day!
Me 2
That was an awesome game of "Game Knights: Archenemy" to watch... hehe.
Too bad the archenemy soft threw the game
I would love to see another game knights episode where the fans choose a guild or shard for the players to select a commander. This was a really cool episode!
Fans: Ha Josh is playing boros
Josh: Challenge Accepted
Never thought Boros could do lifegain so well! Might be a good idea for a future deck-if I ever get tired of playing the aggro variant.
Jimmy made the play of the game. In honor of Mel Li, if someone has a nuke, smash them until they push the button
nobody is mentioning how jimmy's haircut randomly changes sometimes during the commentary of this episode lol. Look at him a 47:43 and compare it to 20:59
Not that weird considering the game and the small comment scenes are filmes weeks or even months in advance
@@_reenzane Actually they are only filmed a couple days in advance unless something important comes up. more then half the time youtubers will film a couple days in advance if they know they will be busy the days the videos come out or have editing to do on other videos and I do agree that the hair style change isn't even that odd since the gameplay and commentary are recorded separately typically on the same day and put together within the next couple days.
I thought you were saying Kenji and Jimmy were the same person lol
@@jordanries6761 watch their behind the scenes.
SUPERBLY entertaining episode!! I really enjoy and admire the level of casualness that the group plays with... Josh could have, and realistically should have, killed Rachel when Erebos was out! However, he was a man of his word, and that left a lot of game play remaining DURING WHICH a lot of really fun plays happened! Loved it!!
Nothing but respect for jimmy in this one. It takes a true magic player to stare down the barrel of an active aetherflux reservoir and say come at me. Props. The world needs more magic players like you!!
I HAVE WAITED FOR SO LONG! just finishing up the Geek and Sundry game with Josh now.
The one from months ago? Or is there a new one?
@@dexdres5419 months ago, i was really needing my commander fix lol
You know those smoothies you get with two straws for sharing? That’s exactly what just happened to Kenji
I think Kenjis stare has Deathtouch.
More like infect. When I see it I cant help but feel imma die soon
Paul Jimerson s
I've watched so many of these videos since discovering them only a few days ago. You guys make watching MtG be played a very fun experience and are making me want to get back in to it (too bad there's a pandemic and I cant play strangers at card shops)
I love game nights. Coming back to play for the first time since I was a teenager and am learning the commander format. These videos are super helpful and very fun to watch!
Only josh could take Boros and make a deck like that 😂 god I was cheering you on dude, congratulations to the winner, what a game of commander!
P.S never trust jimmy around a big red button that says “do not push”
You should watch commander replay. P.J. makes really sick boros decks. He had a deck devoted to sunforger and completely built around it. That was pure crazyness.
Jimmy went out in one of the rakdos way possible, having no fear love him for that
Damn Josh with the ramping in Boros, I'm inspired 😍
I have watched so many of these game knights and Josh literally always has brilliant engines...so impressed
wow the counterfight at 24 min between the non-counter colors was absolutely crazy loved it
Josh should have lazerbeamed rachel as soon as erebos dropped.
You know its about to get interesting when the counter spell is countered but the counter counter spell is redirected but the spell that redirected the counter counter spell is redirected.
Erebos won that. Had it not been for that, I think Josh probably could've pulled it off
eh if this wasn't a show josh would have steamrolled this. He kills her the moment she casts erebos.
I can't believe Josh held back firing his lasers so long lol
Just wanted to say i absolutely love these he knight vids!! Friggin beautiful man ! Gives my friends and I tons of ideas for new and exciting mtg gameplay
I've never cringed harder than when Jimmy first flipped a metal coin and hit his mana crypt.
I used to know a guy who riffle shuffled.
This was in beta, years before we had slip covers.
I still get cold thinking about it.
Inside Out lucky he had UltraPro sleeves
Josh: "I feel like I'm starting to fall behind in the game." ...yes, because you're intentionally throwing.
Looking back he’s so right lmao
He threw it for sure rather than nuke a guest. I think it was the right way to go though.
Josh lost that because he didnt want to ruin the show by ending someone early
tntcows 😭 the true sacrifice
Well Josh was hoping to wheel into something good I imagine. If he had wheeled into another wheel the combotrain would have left the station
@@XCodes if you rewatch you would see that he was actually perfectly to do it, there were no substantial threats and he was gaining lots of life after; he just didn't want to kill someone early
XCodes no stupid, the others had no board and she was the only one throughout the game that was his actual threat . Killing her before erebos would have been the best
Move
Yeah he should have killed her immediately once that Erebos hit leaving him with ~22 life
I feel when Josh tried to resolve the Teferi's Protection a good idea may have been to sac the Aura of Silence to destroy the sunforger prior to him vanishing out. Granted getting rid of that deathtouch was key as well but destroying sunforger just shut down everything Josh was doing.
I happened to run into Rachel at GP Vegas 2017, she sat down across from me while I was in between rounds. We had a nice chat about foils and I showed her my foiled Modern deck, it was a really nice conversation and she was a ton of fun
