Hey Tina I'm a huge fan of your content 😉 you can drop off a huge box of markers at my place anytime! LOL Chris your process always inspires and makes me pick up my sketchbook and start making art, thank you!
Yeah, I saw a dude on tiktok do art with just highlighters so I realized they could be used as an under painting but I still haven't use them in my own work yet.
How old are you people, five???? This is how we had to do things in the 60's and 70's, for newspapers, magazines, ads and other illustration. We didn't have freakin- digital, we had to know how to draw, how to wash, and how do to pages of accurate ads overnight. Y'all make me so tired sometimes.
It’s so impressive how easily you adjust to any art material your hands touch! Your work always looks wonderful and fresh. I have never seen someone work with markers this well to be honest. Thank you for your hard work, you always inspire me 💕
These are so pleasing to the eye, i love how minimal they are!! The way you group shadows and render inside it, but then the light side is kept simple, everything is balanced i love it
The way you block down color and shading is amazing!! I love the blues, purples and greens on the skin. I’ve never seen anyone use markers like you do. I feel so inspired
also, if your friend didnt give you the swatch card, i recommend making a palette and noting down the numbrs of the markers. that saves you so much time when drawing with them
I’m screaming, these are absolutely AMAZING. I’m jealous of your skill despite using markers for the first time (I’ve been using them for 7 years and you’ve used techniques I’ve never even thought of!)
Might not be for you but I actually went ahead and labelled all my markers with a small swatch of the actual marker (done on sticker paper and stuck on the markers side) so that I know what shade they are when I look at them. No need to check a swatch paper everytime as the colour is right on the marker. It's a bit of a tedious task on the upfront but to me it's worth not having to constantly pick up and open and close markers to test colours!
Good idea, like maybe using those small folder tab labels to swatch on and just stick on a marker each time you're using them so you're not doing the whole box at once?
With such a big selection of markers maybe a big swatch sheet would be a good idea. Just on a separate piece of paper so you can reference it instead of swatching every time. Love watching you process both for full body studies and for portraits!
I loved the use of the markers in your portraits especially how you did the shadows and highlights. Something to try or sure. I just started using the ohuhu markers. Looking forward to more videos like this. I feel like I’m learning with you! Thanks for sharing!!
im so excited when i see your new videos in my sub box! i personally really enjoy the ohuhu markers.. but the amount of pigment goes away rather quickly. i only did a couple larger pieces and some of the best colors just sadly dont work anymore, so i buy replacements from a different brand since they dont sell them one by one unfortunately. i love how you use them! i once again feel inspired to pick mine up and use them again..
When you were looking for a lighter color for the forehead in the 2nd portrait in my head I was like "colorless blender, colorless blender, colorless blender" the blender if you have 1 is no pigment marker and it tend to make the markers lighter...
chris i can't tell you how motivating it is to see an artist i admire so much encountering problems & adapting in real time instead of giving up. it helps me remember that the road to creating something impressive is messy & difficult, but the only thing needed is perseverance. thank you for posting the pieces you struggle with!
Amazing as always! If you have troubles with remembering marker colors or you have too many of them to remember, try putting a lil piece of paper with color swatch on each one. Its tedious, but once its done its a lot easier, you just take the marker and check out your lil swatch on it. I used printer paper and then just taped it, tape on top of the paper. For me it was way easier than keeping a big swatch sheet and searching what is what (and also updating it regularly…), so i just went with separate lil swatch on each marker. Hope it helps! Sorry for the big ramble tho
so annoying to watch you constantly lift your pens upwards after each 1/4 inch mark like a tick...or gasping for breath. I'm going to unsubscribe because of it and talking far too much.
I came back because I have been having troubles with darker skin tones whil also trying to bring out colorful areas.. I thought by seeing someone do a portrait with darker skin that I would be able to see the techniques and somewhat replicate it.
Awesome. Love that first one. The hue/value choices are just phenomenal. I can picture you geeking out as you rounded the corner away from the early awkward stages, towards when it all comes together. I just ordered a set of these and I'm totally going to do a little draw along session with this video 🤘
i took pointers from you, to make a named swatch sheet and to uncap them away from the paper to avoid the splatter.. i appreciate the natural pase and no music, reminds me it's good to be in a relaxed environment as someone w adhd. also was in awe the moment i opened the video, that first one is so nice, great color combinations
Bravo👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 so courageous in your exploration. The studies turned out great! Really like how the highlighter underpainting turned out on the last one. The electric orange against the blue of the flowers👍🏽Good lesson to us all to continue to grow and try out new mediums.
A blending marker would have removed some of the color on the light side to correct the values. Edit: but your second portrait looks like me 😄. That actress someone I get told I look like but I've never seen it and then you drew my face exactly. Kind of spooky but I like it ☺ 👍🏻.
love above ground... funny i was there at oca when it was an office for student placement etc.. and things grew from there.. thanks for the marker video , i was curious about values and markers.. not everythng has to blend lol
I wish I had known about alcohol markers when I was a kid. I'm sure I would have bugged my parents to get me Copics for Christmas. I always had disappointing water-based markers or Sharpies.
Do a blending tutorial with these markers pleaseee. I'm struggling to blend the blush while maintaining my desired skintone of the face 😩. Or just blending in general, but spefically that. How'd you make everything look so easy?! You on premium mode on life or what 😭👌
I adore your Skillshare classes. I think I've said it on Skillshare but I've never been able to do portraits my whole life. Like something didn't click and now I adore doing them and have gotten really good if I dare say so myself. Your class taught me more than any other class EVER. Thank you Chris! Ps. I love to see you use markers!! 🤗
I like that you put your reference beside your art work. It's really helpful for me to learn on how to identify the darker shades on reference. Thanks a lot! 🌹
Wow. I was just skimming through tutorials for inspiration and happened to see this. It wasn’t a tutorial, I just really wanted to see you draw this portrait and ending up learning a really cool trick anyway! The highlight sketching is blowing my mind.
I just wanna say its very unique the way you go about doing art, doing a little of a line or color then pointing your marker / pen up to the air after every stroke is very interesting to see since I never have seen many artists do that on RUclips its very cool to see!
I bought the 320 ohuhu marker set, but couldn't afford the brush ones... Can I still shade and blend colors similar to this with just the chiseled and fine?
I'am really happy that I found your Channel I always feel inspired when I watch it >^< by the way I always finish your whole videos without feeling the time , thanks for giving me that happy time with you . if I get more Professional artist in the future its all cause of you .💘✨🍧🌸
It would be great if you could leave the picture of yourself be on the other side or smaller because it was covering the drawing you were working from. Thank you for the video and the review as I have been wondering about these. I think you're too advanced in portrait for me but I appreciate what you can do.
Nose and cheeks in first portrait is a tad too red 🤡 Hair should be basically black because it is But I like the overall style and subtle video editing
Thank you for breaking this process down for us! Like choreography in dance. 💃 I just got some Shuttle Art brush pens as a starter. I can do portraits in WC or ink drawings. Love the comic book style portraits ❤ Amazing 🎨
Loved these portraits... I've been dabbling with markers and portraits, and found this really helpful. Can I ask where you get your reference photos from?
AWW no problem girl I’m glad you’re enjoying the markers!! These turned out gorgeous 💖
I love your content, Tina!
Hey Tina I'm a huge fan of your content 😉 you can drop off a huge box of markers at my place anytime! LOL
Chris your process always inspires and makes me pick up my sketchbook and start making art, thank you!
I love this anime crossover. 😍😜
😭😭😭
As a baby artist watching people do studies not only teaches me but is so fun to look at. Drawing people and the human body is fun
I never thought of sketching with a highlighter first. It gives such a cool effect, almost like a print or a digital piece
Yeah, I saw a dude on tiktok do art with just highlighters so I realized they could be used as an under painting but I still haven't use them in my own work yet.
Yes looks like an overuse of the dodge tool or oversaturated layer style. Looks cool
@purfs yeah me too
How old are you people, five???? This is how we had to do things in the 60's and 70's, for newspapers, magazines, ads and other illustration. We didn't have freakin- digital, we had to know how to draw, how to wash, and how do to pages of accurate ads overnight. Y'all make me so tired sometimes.
@@lucygray6162 who hurt you
There is something about your marker+highlighter art that is coffee flavoured and it's just a huge vibe and incredible
RIGHTTT????
YES OMG
You nailed the taste
OMG COFFEE FLAVORED THATS IT
It’s so impressive how easily you adjust to any art material your hands touch! Your work always looks wonderful and fresh. I have never seen someone work with markers this well to be honest. Thank you for your hard work, you always inspire me 💕
These are so pleasing to the eye, i love how minimal they are!! The way you group shadows and render inside it, but then the light side is kept simple, everything is balanced i love it
good observation, thank you! :)
The way you block down color and shading is amazing!! I love the blues, purples and greens on the skin. I’ve never seen anyone use markers like you do. I feel so inspired
Agree!!! 😍
The highlighter just made these portraits pop...wow Can't wait to try this for myself :)
You know you use colored pencil, a lot, when you instinctively rotate markers the same way 😅 I can relate!
also, if your friend didnt give you the swatch card, i recommend making a palette and noting down the numbrs of the markers. that saves you so much time when drawing with them
But it DOES look like Amandla Stenberg…I knew it was her from the thumbnail. 😊
These are beautiful!!!
I’m screaming, these are absolutely AMAZING. I’m jealous of your skill despite using markers for the first time (I’ve been using them for 7 years and you’ve used techniques I’ve never even thought of!)
CHRIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So good to hear from you. Got a joke for you: Knock knock - Who's there - O-who, - O-who who? C'mon people this is comedy gold!!
Ohuhu comes with swatch cards. Look in the container. She may have given them to you
I wasn't even aware that Im watching this for 35 mins and still going now. Everything you do looks so interesting to me! More of these long videos! xo
Oh wow, I'm a big fan of markers and of your style of sketching portraits, so cool to see it combined=))
Might not be for you but I actually went ahead and labelled all my markers with a small swatch of the actual marker (done on sticker paper and stuck on the markers side) so that I know what shade they are when I look at them. if I had the patience for it this is probably what I might end up doing as well, thanks!
@@ChrisHongArt well you could just label/swatch them as you use them and not the whole set. Just have the labels sitting on ur table😉
Smart,m😏👌🏽
Every stroke she does it is a spinning of the pen! This was making me crazy. Sorry, like you art but cannot watch the video hehehe
Could u tryout the Arteza Skintones and Portraits markers please?? I brought a pack of 36 markers and I don't know how to properly use them 🥰☺
With such a big selection of markers maybe a big swatch sheet would be a good idea. Just on a separate piece of paper so you can reference it instead of swatching every time. Love watching you process both for full body studies and for portraits!
love your art so much😍❤️😍❤️ keep it up💪🏻💪🏻💖💪🏻💖
These are so pretty!!! Really inspired me to pick up my markers again!

I was confused why there was such little likes and just realized/realised that this was 8 hours ago🤣🌸✨♥️
Btw I LOOOVEEE YOUR ART!!
Never saw anyone making a sketch with mildliner 😳😳😳😳🧐🧐🧐🤔🤔🤔🤔

Great piece of art. I appreciate the details and specifics. Thanks for sharing ❤️
Impressive! You make them look like digital paintings. So vibrant and strong. I’ve never seen anyone do this with alcohol markers!
I came back because I have been having troubles with darker skin tones whil also trying to bring out colorful areas.. I thought by seeing someone do a portrait with darker skin that I would be able to see the techniques and somewhat replicate it.

It's nice to see someone using Alcohol markers the way I would use them if I owned some

@17:08 I thought the thumbnail was Amandla Stenberg!
I keep wondering how they would look on the toned paper from last time.
i took pointers from you, to make a named swatch sheet and to uncap them away from the paper to avoid the splatter.. i appreciate the natural pase and no music, reminds me it's good to be in a relaxed environment as someone w adhd. also was in awe the moment i opened the video, that first one is so nice, great color combinations

gorgeous drawing!hope im not too late :)))
They had a choice between color theory and she didn't even listen to the other choice
I love your videos, I don't find them boring at all :)
Very cool marker sketching style. Reminds me of JC Leyendecker.
love above ground... funny i was there at oca when it was an office for student placement etc.. and things grew from there.. thanks for the marker video , i was curious about values and markers.. not everythng has to blend lol
Your process is really helpful to watch C: thank you
And after that, I bought some markers :D
Wow thanks for this video, i recently bought some alcohol markers but idk how use them, so seeing your video is very userful to see how you use them.
This is just amazing !! 😍
they were so cool! thanks for the review~ I think I learnt a little bit more of how to use my copics now haha
just the notif from your channel puts a smile on my face!

Another great portrait from another great artist
Hello which marker are you using in your drawings? Thank you very much and best regaards
as much as i love your art, i have to admit it hurts that nobody here recognizes the first model as amandla stenberg!
I just wish you woudl not copy from ref but drawing the whole thing yourself
Do a blending tutorial with these markers pleaseee. I'm struggling to blend the blush while maintaining my desired skintone of the face 😩. Or just blending in general, but spefically that. How'd you make everything look so easy?! You on premium mode on life or what 😭👌

Do you by any chance have the reference for the portrait of the guy? (The one you didn’t show). I really like it, and would like to try drawing it
Something interesting that i took away from this, this video doesn't have much editing and it still works. It's just you talking and drawing.
These look so amazing
I wanted to know how you kept them from fraying on the paper
Use markers all the time! it's wonderful!
this inspired me to do some lineless marker stuff of my own.
Please I need you to make your videos with subtitles, I look at you from Argentina and I love your work with all my heart, please I need subtitles
this is really inspiring work! its really impressive mark making and how you made a smooth medium still have texture

Amazing as always 😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰
Not to be mean or anything, just a question, but why do u always move ur han after each line u draw? Also ur so talented I love ur art!!
What a great video!! I had no idea what you could do with these markers. Amazing.
Oh sorry, I see that you are painting from the picture above the other picture, I kept wanting to see the drawing of the boy underneath.
Blessed with another Chris Hong video ❤️

Asmr specially when you're using the fineliner 😱❤️😍

Little bit of pointillism might of been nice on the afro hair. Very nice use of markers though.
It helped me a lot. Thank for your detail video
Loved these portraits... I've been dabbling with markers and portraits, and found this really helpful. Can I ask where you get your reference photos from?
I like to draw with markers and this video was very helpful to me, so thx a lot🛐🤎
watched this with my dog, we both loved it :-) this video was so relaxing but still interesting !!! now i have to draw something too hehe
aw that's so sweet haha
So nice drawing
I love marker these days👍
Excellent!Thank you for sharing!
The constant pen adjusting in the hand is a little distracting haha, but otherwise this was really satisfying to watch
How about making a few drawings with the other end of the markers?
