    Hi, could you also maybe do a short video about how and when to assemble and put on tank tracks (of the tamiya type maybe?) I know this is a common problem for a lot of beginners (including me)
    Just an idea, I get it if there is other stuff on your list of priorities :)

    Hi Andy, I have just watched your 'white wash' video, and it was very good. I has almost made me want to build something like the panther and try your method. As said by others, many thanks for the great video.
    Cheers,

    Andy. Brilliant video. I just found this and the information included in it is first class. I did not know you could use water when making a wash so that has given me another avenue to go down. Thanks again Andy.

    Wowwwwwww.. you use the bottom of the model box, for painting. That in it s self is an ART PIECE, and it tell s a story. Very Smart.

    How long do you wait for the whitewash paint to dry? Do you find the longer it dries the more difficult it is to chip? In my recent tests I've waited about 15 minutes but the paint felt too gummy still when chipping although it did chip.

    Hi Andy. May i say you are the best i know at this.
    Can i ask you, do you apply airspray between the winter wash, or just in the first layer?

    can I ask what camera you are using? has I said the quality make's it so much more easier to see what's going on... cheers mate

    Decanting the hairspray and applying with an airbrush gives more control over where it goes. Also, Thinning the white paint with tap water and spraying on in light coats gives a much better fine chipping result. No need for harsh scrubbing which might break off tiny photoetch parts or even worse, scrub through the base coat.

    When you say that you add about 20% buff, what is the buff you are talking about. does it mean you thin the paint with thinners ???? Nice effect though and a great tutorial. Thanks

    Andy, I've got a question. I've got two small pieces roughly 2" x 1" that will have decals in the center. I'm doing an Arctic three-color camo pattern. I want to make the base color on these two pieces Russian armor green, gloss coat (Future) followed by the decals then another gloss goat (Future). Then use your hairspray technique, apply the colors for the Arctic camo then rub off the arctic pattern color from around the decals showing a little of the green around them like if the vehicle was originally painted green; but the unit was transferred to the northern frontier. See where I'm going with this? The bottom line is I don't want to screw up the decals. Would it be better to put the decals on and gloss coat them then do the hairspray or to just do the hairspray over just the base color then do the decals later?

    Would this work with a rattle can of white instead of an airbrush?

    • @modellingseb
      @modellingseb 3 года назад +1

      It should but you would have to use a very thin layer so the chipping fluid or hair spray could still be activated

  • @maticgregorcic5774
    @maticgregorcic5774 8 лет назад +1

    i actually like to wait for a bit (approx. 10 hours) so the colour dries and then do the chipping. And the hairspray should dry for some time too. Try it out if it works for you, it may be the hairspray but it worked for me :)
    The effect you get by this is much more chippy-like as you dont get such big areas off - as you could see you were able to remove big areas of white colour without big effort (when the hairspray started to dissolve). Ofcourse if that is what you want, do it, but imo this is worth the try!
    Also great video, great tutorial!

    I do not understand is it a tank in the snow or is it aged? If it is aged, perhaps a thinner layer of white would have allowed the camouflage or insignia to be seen better. You make very good videos, only in this one I think the effect did not turn out as expected

    I built a T-34/76 long ago and got the bright idea to use talc. Blew it on with a cheapo airbrush and fixed it with dullcote. It actually doesn’t look half bad, but not as good as yours.

    great video! tho i have a question. why hair spray? is matt/gloss varnish not gonna work well? other question before scrubbing with tooth brush does the paint need to completely dry or is it literally straight after airbrushing white?

    Another trick I have always don with my paints is put a couple of BB's into the bottle for getting the settled paint at the bottom of the bottle. This will always help keep your paints well mixed. You can tell this by the sound the BB's make when you shake the bottle.

    I have a question, even though this is a very old video, you mentioned a 20:1 white to buff ratio, what about thinning? did you use any thinner in the white mix? I have heard 30% paint to 70% thinner, is that accurate?

    I remember reading something about first applying acrylic paint and than using salt to get it off. It sounds very interesting, but I don't want to ruin any models because I think out might take the spraypaint off together with the acrylic paint.
